A classic Avon salmon turns down stream and nails a red flying C in the Broadmeade pool on the Hampshire Avon. After an epic 9 minute battle the salmon eventually comes to the net. Filmed by PGTV and music provided by www.bensound.com
the next video is a 25lb fish from the same pool using a mepp 5 on opening day 1-6-2018 of the spinning season at Somerley. I would have put this one up first but due to popular demand I fast tracked the 35lb fish! I Then you can look forward to a 12lb salmon on a paternostered devon minnow - again from the same pool in less than 4 days!
Colin Tait thanks Colin. Yes I know the estate intermediately. It helps no end. It is probably the best salmon chalk stream in the world. We are so privileged to fish it from our back garden so to speak. Wishing you success in all your fishing pursuits.
thanks Jamie - yes I had a 30lber follow my mepps the day before - so I knew there were some big fish in the system - takes my 6 fish average to 21lbs ! What a river! Tight lines for the rest of the season!
Fantastic fish Paul. Happy birthday! What an absolute clonker. I'm always jealous of that nice clear water you fish in. You can get some nice underwater shots as well as see the fish! Great stuff. You can just take it easy now for the rest of the season. Still...I'm sure there's a 40 in there...somewhere.....
salmon ninja thanks Salmon Ninja. Yes I do believe there’s a 40 liber in the Avon waiting to be caught! Last year I hooked one which I nicknamed the dolphin. It leaped out of the water in 4 consecutive jumps !!!! It was an absolute clinker. After a 10 minute battle it took me under a tree snag and wouldn’t come out. I gave the game keeper my rod and jumped in to ease him out with an extended pole. The fish took off and the line broke on the snag. I also lost a 40 on the royalty 5 years ago! My life time goal is to smash the Avon record of 49 pounds. On the fly rod! Now that would be fun to watch!
PGTV has done it again!! Very Impressive fish, absolute bullet! Thought it was a shark when it first came up. You couldn't ask for better birthday present. Now I think its time for the 40....
thanks Lewis - we have some big spring tides coming his week and there's plenty of water for them to come up. Just praying we get a drop in temp in the next few days leading up to the prawning season! I like to take them long- trotting and Dee at Purple whiskers is the man for world class quality bait - delivered the next day! May your salmon dreams come true too! Tight lines for the rest of the year!
Barry Cooper thanks Barry.. being half Italian I am blessed to have my mums youthful genes and my 92 year old father isn’t doing to bad himself! Of course the stress levels have been kept in check being out here with rod in hand and e;joying the wonderful wildlife and clean air!
Paul Greenacre and the same to you Paul , we're off to try on the Ouse at naburn later I the year so trying to piece together some methods to employ ,I'm new to this and have never caught a salmon .but I've seen with my own eyes some belters leaping .fingers crossed .
So ur back. Great fish. To get its second and third wind like that. Ur no longer using braid. I use flurocarbon myself. Best choice fr spinning really. River looks awesome
Tadhg Hayden thanks Tasha. Yes my catch rate has doubled since moving to fluorocarbon. Braid can spook resident Fish that have seen everything. Sneaky Pete recommended it to me 3 years ago. X- line is a quality and affordable fluorocarbon. I find 20 lb has a low enough diameter to cast well and strong enough to play big fish. . It’s invisible in the water and cuts down quicker than braid. I highly recommend it!
David Redfearn thanks David . Have a look at www.aapgai.co.uk and search for Kevin styles. He knows the Avon intimately and has stacks of experience. Great teacher and good sense of humour.
Must say!...what two grown will do for the splendor of their trophy...and watch out for that landing net as an extra bit of multitasking or ull lose it to the river
Welsh Ryski 20lb x line Fluoro carbon all the way through! Works a treat! Catch rate has doubled! How’s the fishing in Wales? Which rivers do you fish?
@@PaulGreenacre I fish the river taff. We getting wild brown trout up to 7lb some say bigger but I haven't seen one. Lots of grayling big ones I had a 3lb 10oz.. Lots of salmon come up this time of year as well... But go to the brecon beacons area to fish for salmon.....
Did you catch that 6 June? Just wondering when is a good time to fish for Salmon on the Avon. I can fish at Northend, Bickton, Salterton. Limited choice of when but
I just started salmon fishing this year and eventually got my first on the last day of our season. Tried everything from spinning, worm and shrimp all season. You make it look easy
@@markyboy683 well done Mark - that's a result. Its tougher than I make it look! Hopefully odds will improve as you get to know the river and conditions and refine your techniques. Plus lets hope we get a good run for 2021 and that we have no more lock downs! Have a great Christmas and New Year!
paul connor thanks Paul. Double footage from two angles gives the impression it was a 16 minute battle. The actual battle was less than 9 minutes and that’s why he recalled versed so well.
