The HV30 and the HV40 are like..totally the same, the hv40's native 24p mode just means you can fit more time on a tape and doesn't require the usual 3:2 pulldown from 60i like the HV30 does. but the 24p will look the same on both cameras. i used to have an hv30, it still had noise reduction :( for a first camera though, you will be very happy and having an HD tape deck is invaluable.

This is really really good. You're an excellent film maker. What program did you use to edit? Vegas? Pinncale?

Yeah, this is the same adapter but i used a new canon focusing screen. The EE-A but i think your better off with the EE-S focusing screen. i used a short section of pvc pipe, and lens cap and a small +2 macro lens i taped it all together and used a hose clamp to mount it to the camera I dissembled it all though, and im building a new spinning adapter, but im having a huge issue with vignetting since i don't have a condenser lens, so who knows maybe ill put the focusing screen back in it :P

@kudjo24 ya that hdc tm700 puts out some nice images and really good low light, im impressed, but its still a CMOS camera so it will still have the rolling shutter jello. i got to test out a panasonic hpx300 at my church and omg, worse rolling shutter ever but i'd still CMOS/3MOS over ccd anyday, CMOS has less color noise and totally immune to CCD smearing.

@kudjo24 google CCD smearing. you'll find tons of info. CMOS is totally immune to that also, cmos and 3mos are essentially the same thing. 3mos= 3 CMOS sensors vs. just 1. It still has rolling shutter, it's an issue of the way CMOS gathers and transfers light. ya ive looked at the 550d aka T2i. id personally go for the 7D, maybe even a 5d mk2. i heard from a canon rep. that the t2i/550d and 7D have the same sensors, but the image processing behind them is different

that particular adapter was attached with ductape and a hose clamp, it looked pretty hideous to be honest, i've been building a newer adapter. i really think your better buying a 7d or 5dmk2, way better edge to edge sharpness and light sensitivity

Are the corners supposed to have that black shadow? Is it from the lens or..?

as far as which camera to get... i don't know.. i actually hate my HF11 right now. CMOS sensors have that rolling shutter which bugs the crap out of me. also just about the entire vixia line of cameras have 3D noise reduction which smears the colors soo badly during high motion spots. its gross actually Im thinking about selling my HF11, to buy a Panasonic HPX170
