According to American NGO Human Rights Watch, labour abuses persist in the United Arab Emirates. Female domestic workers are excluded from regulations that apply to workers in other sectors and migrant construction workers face serious exploitation. South Asian labourers toil in temperatures far exceeding anything ever recorded in Hong Kong for a monthly salary of about 700 dirhams (HK$1,480) - which, coincidentally, is what a single meal costs at the aquarium-themed Al Mahara restaurant. Article 25 of the Constitution of the UAE provides for the equitable treatment of persons with regard to race, nationality, religious beliefs or social status. However, in reality there are very few anti-discrimination laws in relation to labour issues, with full UAE locals being given preferential treatment when it comes to employment, even though they generally show minimal interest in working. Foreign laborers in Dubai often live in conditions described by Human Rights Watch as being "less than humane" and was the subject of the documentary, Slaves of Dubai. A 2006 NPRreport quoted Baya Sayid Mubarak, the Indian consul for labor and welfare in Dubai, as saying "the city's economic miracle would not be possible without armies of poorly paid construction workers from the Indian sub-continent". The NPR report stated that foreign construction workers lived "eight and ten to a room in labor camps" and that "many are trapped in a cycle of poverty and debt, which amounts to little more than indentured servitude."

That's exactly what I thought!

It's similar to the Hispanic dish but not exactly the same. I grew eating tres leches, which I loved, but this type of cake isn't as soaked. It's different but I like it too. I wouldn't recommend expecting to taste exactly the same.

@@ladybugpoop14 Not saying they aren't. A great many countries need to look in the mirror and deal with their history. The UAE just happens to have some of the more recent and more flagrant examples, and they seem to be unwilling to deal with it.

The difference between these countries and UAE/Dubai, is the US and UK USED to have slavery - it was a slow and painful process to both abolish and emancipate, but it happened. Dubai currently revels in slavery and wider human rights abuses.

Not justifying anything, just pointing out the double standards. Let's think about human rights abuses next time you get a coffee at Starbuck (coffeebean-industry), buy your clothes at almost every shop instead of the fair trade ones (clothing industry conditions), get cheap stuff on wish, etc. And not to mention all of the investments our leaders make in these countries where human rights are not to your standards, just to make their bucks and get some oil. And I will not even start about the long process and emancipation being done successfully, let's get a look at Black Lives Matter and all the MeToo shit going on. The families being separated at the border because they have entered a country illegally, so that supposedly means human rights can be violated. Even in war times human rights should be adhered to (Geneva Convention), but let's not go there because there's also a nasty history in that area. Short summary: colonization, wars, become wealthy, then create rules on trade so others cannot become wealthy and have to fight for wealth in other ways, then point out their human right violations whilst not mentioning your own. Anyways, that's my two bucks on this topic. Not spreading hate, but just pointing out things I feel people (choose to) forget easily. Have a good day!
