I taught 3 women today. And I showed them how this drill on the mitts. And the first thing I asked was “If your attacker outweighs you by 80lb or more, do you think you could do anything more complex than this?” A collective “No.” was their response. How in the world are you going to stop someone way heavier than you with something complex or long winded? Especially under real pressure. Thanks for sharing 360 Thomas. You don’t see any other realistic examples on RU-vid of defending or attacking 360 degrees with stuff that actually works 💥

The Enter The Dragon scene with Bruce Lee and John Saxon is a decent example of 360 degrees fight with opponents coming at you at all directions & angles. Even the point made of waiting for the proper distance is displayed there : Two henchmen coming at Bruce...., .....one was too far , so he feinted an attack to momentarily freeze him while the other one was close enough to attack where there was no time for henchman #2 to counter or defend....., ....so while engaged in attacking henchman #2, henchman #1 assumed he could attack an occupied Bruce by closing in, but also got surprised with an attack there was no time to anticipate, defend or counter.

If you noticed, also, 3 opponents was coming at John Saxon from his front, his right side, then his left side. Look at them again....,his fight scenes and sequence of attacks and tools to use was designed & choreographed by Bruce. Probably designed the attack according to John's "add specifically what was John's own..," lol,... ....his body mechanics, development, central nervous system, speed, power, flexibility, reflexes, kinesthetic muscle reaction, footwork, timing, anatomy and perception of attack. JKD.

I think people should look AGAIN at Bruce Lee multiple opponents approach in Enter The Dragon underground scene by the elevator using exclusively hand techniques. The various ways, angles & how he projected power & impact with those punches no matter where the opponents were in relation to his proximity. A tight, strong, solid core ( hundreds/thousands) of various abdominal exercises keep the body moving as one unit with little hesitation and lag when one decides to move. Roy Jones I'm his prime...,besides natural gifts had similar command of his body, can move, on a dime, at will, in any direction with no body part lagging behind. His training routine was also a thousand sit-ups per training session.

Nice walking drills. In the streets, this is most likely and highly probable circumstances. Pigeon-toed Sil Lum Tao stance won't help you here....,just help you to get knocked out & accelerate to the pavement faster with less trouble for attacker.

Maybe you should add Multiple Opponents to your playlist. Surprised, actually, at one of your very early videos showing Intermediate/Advanced JKD drills & applications along this videos subject. It's the one titled: "Teaching Jeet Kune Do Attacking Two Targets - Tommy Carruthers JKD". What's interesting about that video is one, how advanced in skill it shows the participants.., Instructor included. Two..,it looks simple, but the applications are NOT easy and are infinite mix of type of punches, punch & kick combo, broken rhythm , distance and footwork adjustment according to various different pace in advancing of the different opponents, etc ,. So intermediate/advanced, maybe you weren't supposed to show that much, I don't know. But the most subtle, yet brilliant application that blows any other martial arts concept by light years ( it's Bruce Lee's REAL stuff, of course it's incredible), is this: The combo attacked TWO opponents as though you were combo'ing/follow up with ONE opponent....,but it was TWO opponents. That frame of mind is quite unique. If someone can do a three piece combo on ONE opponent, how about a three piece on THREE opponents?? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Mix up punches and kicks, it would be an ENDLESS array of attacks....,of course, with varying approaching speeds of different multiple opponents, it would take MASTERFUL, advanced footwork to pull it off as having each strike damn near a knockout strike. On your promo video, you actually did 3 finger jabs to 3 opponents in under a second...,I watched that one 20 plus times because, AT FIRST, I thought it was sped up a bit. My thinking was NO WAY Thomas can move that fast..., that's Bruce & Tommy speed...,but..,I was dead wrong. That shows NEVER underestimate ANY opponent of any weight or size because you assumed that you saw his best stuff...,which can be a costly mistake. Lol.., hahaha..., every now and then, you watch someone from IFO teaching and watching quite a number of videos, assume you have them pegged...., ....BUT, one or two videos, the Instructor goes ALL OUT and you just didn't know how far dude can go..., even Tommy. People forget that to show people the proper way, you have to slow down.

For techniques to have the effect one desires, tool development should not be looked at simply as a supplement but necessary to unleash the full power of your expression. For one, Bruce broke boards with his bare feet. Two, he could snap in half 2-4 1"-2" boards just dangling..,NO LEVERAGE or fulcrums. GUARANTEED that Tyson, Foreman, Shavers, Marciano and others in their prime on their best day couldn't do it with their best punch. As you see , when trained fully and properly, Real Original JKD can generate that unique type of devastating power. Those Hall of Fame'ers would knock the boards clear across the street, but not snap them unless the boards were held firmly or with some type of fulcrum. Just think about that for a moment...,126 lbs. generating that kind of power.., unique to the majority of martial artists and sports participants. Remember, Bob Wall said in Enter The Dragon that Bruce made contact BUT it was more of a push than his usual technique for realism via the camera. Bruce STILL broke his rib and the extra Bob fell into broke his arm. Bob on video said if that kick contacted his head, he would be dead, without a doubt. Also look at Bruce's knuckles. Oh yeah .., Tommy Carruthers is right there.

Each strike is meant as a knock out, not half assed, than to follow up with something else. That's why, there's no jab in jkd, but the straight lead. Now some idiots (🐖) will post Bruce's notes where he mentions jab, but in reality he meant the straight lead, because most people never heard of the straight lead. Its actually an old boxing concept. The straight lead is a knock out technique and very hard to learn. The concepts crowd have no idea how to do or train it.
@sunn209
@sunn209 Год назад
@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO I think you should put that all over your class, "Bruce Lee's JKD--EACH strike is meant as a KNOCKOUT". Of course, it'll be in German, lol. " No half assed .....," I think 2 or 3 minutes of intense, full out, life-threatening executions is better than 2-3 hours of half assed, going through the motions type of practice.

Talk about multiple opponents...,so how would you guys analyze and correct some of the moves in "Reacher Bathroom Fight" ?? Pretty gritty scene, though a bit unrealistic because those guys would've SWARMED him all at once, especially with weapons. Lots of elbow used, an eye gouge, some front kicks to the nads , an elbow dislocation and an ankle dislocation stomp. Somewhat of an example of if one has not developed ones tools like Backfist, hooks and punches to knockout power, then vital targets are essential in multiple opponents because you don't want ANY of them to be able to comeback for a second try. Knees, eyes, throat and nads..., one should be trying to knock them out the ballpark. As unrealistic at some moments as the scene was, grappling, wrestling, BJJ ground guard ALL would be instant death...,so they used NONE. So even in choreographed fiction...,NO ONE uses ANY grappling arts for multiple opponents in an effort to create realism. So somebody's got some sense.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Год назад
You start grapple there, instant death. Imagine spending so many hours in a art that is useless in most in self defense situations as one has mostly to deal with more than one aggressor. People just mistake tournaments with real life situations. You don't believe how much I have discussed about exactly this on forums, it's pointless, you cant convince hobby martial artists . Its nearly impossible. Once people step into a dojo, the brain washing starts. Funny despite Bruce criticised exactly this and therfore created a new art, 99 percent of todays jkd people do the same mistakes. Remember Bruces exchange with the Japanese Judoka John Little was talking about.
@sunn209
@sunn209 Год назад
@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO One reason the scene is unrealistic is guys with knives like to rush grapple you, tackle you and grab you with one hand while doing a sewing machine action maniacal, repeated thrusting with the knife 🗡️🔪. Or they'll just slash and slice in all directions as they simultaneously try to grab & tackle you.

Tyson, although boxing regularly at that time, and becoming champion, said he hadn't been in a street fight for years. With all his "sport" victories, that time WHEN he got in a street fight, only threw about three shots and broke his hand. Sure, we can learn and analyze boxing, but it doesn't have the totality of Real Original JKD....,had he developed his tools more tenaciously. How many condition their hands, fingers, fist, knees, feet, elbows, head, forearms, shins for maximum impact attacks ??? How many reps doing rear elbows, for multiple opponents, in the air with footwork, hitting pads, heavy bag or wall handbag with sand or such to make it a lethal coma inducer ??? Whatever you not doing, somebody else is...,no matter how superior your technique or approach is, if he touches you, might not get the chance to show how superior your JKD is. That guy in prison whose been working out like a gladiator about to get out...,or how about that guy who invented the Kubota stick...,dude was SLAMMING his fist & chopping hand into SOLID steel. Feet kicking steel also...,so although he is/was a Karate guy, if he touched you, even incidentally, you might be pretty much halfway asleep before you realized what happened. What the hell he just hit me with, I didn't see any weapon...,??!?

The funny thing is, when you look at WC multiple opponents approach, its always turning to the opponent multiple chain punches or such, than turning to the next, than same multiple techniques, and so on. Totally unpractical for multiple opponents. JKDs approach is the total opposite in every way and yet they cant let go of the nun kung fu style.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO They care more about "tradition", and being advanced in rank than fighting. That stuff don't work in even THEIR freestyle sparring, the few that does it, none of those techniques they practice can be pulled off no matter how high their rank is, even sifu. They ALWAYS have to be within arms length of each other which is both dangerous and senseless. When or if they do freestyle, they look like bad, beginner kickboxers with no experience or training, no matter how many years they trained. No wonder Bruce dropped it...,the Choy Li Fut guy helped in his decision. That guy was as fast as Bruce moving circularly as Bruce could move straight, according to Jesse. Wing Chuns footwork & mobility structure kept one chasing, reacting after the fact, lagging behind in an effort to "stick" and remain close.
