As someone who gets questions about 360-degree cameras often, it's awesome to see such an in-depth look from an expert!

I looked into 360deg dashcams a few months back and ended up just going with 2x 3-cam units (normally 1x front, 1x-front-interior, 1x back), which was cheaper. I mounted them with 1 mounted in front (has front-facing, interior-facing-back, and the rear camera is mounted to a rear driver-side window), the 2nd unit is mounted to the back window (with interior-forward facing cam) and the rear unit is mounted to the rear passenger-side window. Same setup you have, just with the extra interior.

Yeah the DIY route seems to be a good way to go to build exactly the setup you want, plus you often get better video quality than what you get with many of the combo systems.

What about the 3D 360 Bird's View Camera System ? It consists of: One front view camera (mounted on the front grill) One rearview camera ( mounted near the resr license plate ) One right side mirror camera (mounted below the right side mirror) One left side mirror camera ( mounted below the left side mirror). All four cameras are 180 degrees (large field of view ) with night vision . All four cameras are controlled by an electronic image processor (comes in a metal box with usb port or micro sd port to record daily driving videos and support parking mode, too ) The system can be added to any stock or aftermarket car entertainment system and support multiple video outputs and camera models ( cvbs,ahd,tvi,pal,ntsc). What you see on the screen is a magnificent, 3d image , giving all around the car , which is useful when parking the car in narrow places) . You can switch manually between many view angles as you like with the dedicated mini remote control that comes with the 3d surrounding camera system. I installed one of these systems in my car almost 2 months ago, and it's working great so far 👌. Downside ( no interior camera), but i have my 2ch rear view mirror dashcam as a backup camera ( recording both front and inside the cabin). I have the walk-around video in my channel if someone is curious about what it looks like. BTW : Nice indepth review from Vortex Radar as usual Keep it up 💪

Got a question, new to this, and recently bought a cheap 30$ 3ch setup. Yeah I know, but I don't have a lot of extra cash so el cheapo we go. My question is: Why has no one made a dash cam with Starvis 2 for the front, Starvis 1 (or similar but cheaper) with a super wide or 360 for internal (similar build like the N4's) with options for a similar second module for the rear? 3 to 4 cameras, in two simple modules, less cables, less mess, and surprisingly decent coverage. If a third module with a 360 lens, that could be mounted in the middle of ceiling for those extra tricky angles. With some clever software it could have buffering and segment video into 2 or 3 decent combined footage clips. one for each of the front and rear and a clever way to combine the front and rear internal to the 360 center (or not if it's not there.)I trying to think what would take the least amount of processing power, several videos or one big 4K or 8K clip baking all the cameras in. Either way, any solutions like that? Or coming?
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar 3 месяца назад
Sorry, I read your question multiple times and still don’t understand.
@BuzzBazzJ

@@VortexRadar Yeah... I haven't slept... Sorry. Anyone that makes/or are planning to make a cheaper dashcam, that uses starvis 2 for its from and rear cameras, while using fisheye or 360 lenses on the interior lens? Q2: With some simple programming there should be an easy way to record all cameras to a single 4K or 8K file, but I dot know which one would be less taxing on the system, spilt video files for each camera, or one single file (4K or 8K) with all the videos baked into one file. What is your take on this as well? Q3: Watching you recaps of dashcams for 2024, what would you say/want in a ultimate dashcam? I postulated a 3 or 4 camera setup with a front and rear starvis sensors( normal lenses), one fisheye or 360 lens for the interior and maybe a fisheye in the ceiling placed in the middle of the car (or over the passenger seats) to help with viewing angles out on the sides. Your takes on this to mitigate cable spaghetti and not warrant a huge premium on device CPU cost? Hope this clears things up.

Hopefully I am not the only person willing to give up the interior views for a 360 degree view of the exterior? Will also give up the interior view for a better view for license plate capture. Remember not all of your viewers have kids or drive as Lyft or uber. I will gladly give up my glove box space for additional battery and remote dash camera processor.

The whole point of this video is to show you multiple approaches so you can see what works best because of course there is no one size fits all solution. For example, based on what you’re describing, you can consider something similar to what I do in my car with a pair of A229 Pro’s if you prioritize license plate capture geni.us/ViofoA229Pro2CH or a pair of DR970X Box Plus’ if you prioritize the remote setup geni.us/DR970X2CHBoxPlus

HELP Please! - is BlackVue customer support misleading everyone 😕. When I asked if there LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot module would support two Dual DR970X Front/Rear camera systems, they replied NO, that only ONE camera system (2 cameras) would be supported and that I would need to buy TWO of their LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot modules. I find this hard to believe... one module can support 5 concurrent users... WHY would it not work? Heck, aren't you yourself "already" doing this? 😊 Thanks!
@VortexRadar
@VortexRadar 3 месяца назад
Yeah so when the DR970X Plus was initially announced, they said that they would enable this capability. It’s currently been limited due to bandwidth concerns. Unfortunately they still haven’t enabled this support yet. I emailed them a few days ago asking them when they’re going to do it, but haven’t heard back yet. For that reason, for now each dashcam will need its own LTE connection or you need an external WiFi hotspot for both dashcams to connect to.

Dashcams would be better if they not on the dashboard at all. Better: 1) 5.7k forward camera at the car's "nose" or where hood ornaments were common, equipped with software to register license plate details; 2) 1080p rear-view camera exactly where most recent cars already offer a rear-view camera, but with better resolution and low-light performance; and 3) a 360-degree camera on the car's interior ceiling, slightly to the rear of the dashboard. Best if the camera feeds could be recorded to a single h.265 8k file, combining all perspectives, with a single and consistent sub-title that conveyed date, time, GPS coordinates, and compass heading. Mr. Vortex Radar, please undertake development of such a product. It could earn you a big and honest fortune.

Hoodlum keys your car at night, the IR LEDs wash out the interior windows so you'll never catch details on camera. Thief breaks into the car anytime of day, first thing to take is the camera holding the evidence of the crime. Cameras are super expensive, so have great resale as well. Only the blackvue box has the card off camera assuring immediate safety from obvious theft. Never minding that few cameras buffer record at all. Please do a video on the camera footage leading to arrest rate and I'll bet it's miniscule. And where does all this footage fall in the face of the 5th Amendment? Can a court or officer compel you to turn your footage over for review and potentially used against you for secondary offenses such as speeding, running a stop sign and so on? Indeed, this sword we think we wield in self-protection seems double-edged and held to our own throat by our own hand. What's the solution? Personalized DIY arduino? Everyone has plenty of time and inclination in their lives to learn that. Cameras watching cameras watching cameras? That was the Stazi philosophy. Wifi alarms? -Sure and every databroker, corporation, government agency, international adversary and basement dirtbag gets your signal that wants it and even your footage too. All for sale and theft to and by every last bidder with a red hot penny in hand. ... That was Ben Franklin with the whole 'sacrificing security for freedom and deserving neither" thing, right? As a society we apparently deserve neither.

1% is way more reasonable. Do you know why there’s lots of reports of far worse results? For example, www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModel3/s/z6unJf7yds Maybe a settings issue? or it’s gotten better over time? The resolution sounds okay, but that doesn’t really tell us too much about actual quality. The sample footage I’ve seen wasn’t anything to write home about. Do you have links to some recent footage?

Sure, the camera is the camera and you can add or remove cameras at will, regardless of what comes in the box. In general I prefer leaving cameras in the car though and not having to reaim lenses, potentially damage cable connectors as they go in and out, etc. IMO these are best for set-it-and-forget-it setups.

I covered this setup in the video. There’s also other complications like getting cloud to work on both cams. You either need an external Wi-Fi hotspot that both dash cams connect to or give each dashcam its own Internet connection and paid data plan. Blackvue said they’re gonna unlock the possibility to have one dashcam connect to the other dashcam’s Internet connection, but so far they haven’t released a firmware that allows us to do so.

Yeah if you go that route, you could do the LTE option. geni.us/DR970X2CHLTEPlus For the rear window cam, a big camera really does impact rear visibility more so than a cam on the windshield which can be hidden behind the RVM so you may wanna consider the regular version geni.us/DR970X2CHPlus and add the external LTE module which can be tucked away.
