Great video. I made the same purchase. Overall very happy with the unit. Here are my findings: I purchased the 4 way wings used them for about 1/2 cord and removed them. Do they work YES. The machine has no problem with the 2nd wedge. Problem is I found you get 2 good size splits and 2 small or skinny splits. So went back to the single wedge for better control of the size of the splits. When working, the ram WILL get warm so expect that. One thing I will mention to watch is when splitting horizontal, wood slivers can and will build up under the ram when the ram returns to the home position. In time if not kept in check it will turn into quit a jam of wood debris. I have seen this in other videos but no one seems to have called attention to it. I have no regrets with my purchase and I wish you the best of luck with your new toy. thanks for the post.
I was thinking the same things about the wings. Some other brands they slip on over top of main wedge and you can use em or lose em as needed, but these bolt on. If all you did was 12" rounds theyd be great, but I imagine they could be better designed for easier removal when they aren't wanted.
@@420bretts Brett, what works for me is a piece of long narrow flat stock which I insert from the back and under the piston. If said wood built-up is left unchecked the power of the ram on return will have adverse effect on the unit. Best to keep a watchful eye. Best of luck
Are the provided hose clamps working well? I’ve seen some comment that the provided clamps are weak. Thanks for making this video! I’m about to assemble the 30 ton.
i'm going to be buying one this week, I really don't like the hydraulic valve being held on with the pipe. I saw another youtuber had his buddy weld a bracket for it. Have you had any trouble with it coming loose while running the machine?
Not yet, however I'm not super happy with that design either. I'm sure that it was a manufacturer cost-saving measure. The only plus side is it eliminates one hydraulic hose.
It can be done without all of the lifting equipment I was using -- just a couple more people to help stand up the main beam. I was working by myself and didn't want to try to balance that main beam on end.
Currently on Northern Tool... It is $2,399.00 + Shipping (635lb. for the 37 ton unit) & now it carries a Kholer 277cc engine instead of the Honda 😕 6/24/2023
