Ste: "Go on, just ask me. Just ask me to stay with you. You know I will. Brendan PLEASE just ask." Oh dear lord above, these two are so desperate to be together. It's torturous.
Its kinda up setting that so many people feel that Ste is cheating on Doug, I disagree. We all know what the end game to this relationship will be. That being the case, it should be of no surprise to any of us that Ste will some how in the end find his way back to Brendan. What Ste is doing, is simply being true to himself. The fact that Ste tell Brendan that he would stay if only Brendan asked, confirms that Ste has never, nor could ever leave Brendan truly in his heart. As we shall see, Doug knows this as well. I believe that Ste knows in truth, he could never truly be happy with Doug in the long run, not that he doesn't have feeling for Doug, but that his feeling for Brendan are far greater. What Ste has found in Brendan is a real man, someone he looks up to, it was never the case with Noah nor Doug. I think that Ste actually liked the age difference between the two, we must remember, Ste never actually had a real father figure in his life. For Ste, he clearly see's in Brendan that parental care and protective element. Doug could never protect him like Brendan does. You can clearly see Brendan's constant concern and care for Ste. Even though they've not been together, its been Brendan who has been covering and taking shots for Ste all along. Plus, there's just something to be said about the way Steven looks and feels when he's in Brendan's arms. He know's that in Brendan's arms, he's safe, and no harm can come to him. Just remember back to all the times we've seen them in bed together, how so at home Ste feels in Brendan's arms. He never wants to leave. Lastly, I've always felt that Steven has always known that he would be Brendan's salvation. That Steven constantly telling Brendan that he love's and only wants to be with him would eventually break Brendan down. Ste is not cheating on Doug, he's just being real, true to himself, finally admitting that he can't live without is man.
I don't think Ste was looking for a father he had Tony for that I think Ste saw similarities in Brendan understand the way he is a why better than anyone else Brendan understood Ste need to be a good dad and the way Ste lashes out at people they are alike but different act the same time if that makes sense
The accident really wake up Ste to his feelings my Brendan and lawd the chemistry between them, the passion in that kiss, the wanting from Ste and Brendan is beautiful to watch after such a long time.
What a long journey these two characters have taken. I said it a long time ago. Brendan Brady didn't know who he was messing with when he seduced young Steven Hay. And Steven Hay had no idea what he was getting into when he fell in love with Brendan Brady. They were like two planets colliding into each other. Brendan really thought that Steven was just this good looking handsome young kid he'd just have a one off with. It was never the intent of Brendan to actually fall in love with this kid, nor that he would find himself caring for him. But fate having its way, arrested both of them. Steven certainly didn't know what hit him. Without even trying they swept each other off their feet/ Clearly Brendan saw something in Steven that for whatever reason he just couldn't tell go of him. He obviously never been in that position before. Just like Owen said, no one stays in Brendan's layer more then one night. Well that was not the case with young Steven. I don't think it was because Steven was young, I think what he saw in Steven was innocence naivete and purity, Steven fell in love with Brendan almost instantly. I think that that really affected Brendan more then he intended. Brendan could not have none that that night of planed seduction of Steven would be his undoing. That Steven would be that rock that would smash him into powder. Like Steven said..... Before you I didn't know what love was, but now I do, thanks to you. .
Ste's indecisiveness is really fucking with both Brendan and Doug, and it's so unfair on both of them. Also it breaks my heart that no matter how much Brendan makes an effort to change, people initially always assume the worst of him. Glad Cheryl at least heard him out this time
OMG, that was F**king amazing. Brendan 's love for Ste is so deep, to do that to make sure Ste has a happy life, wow. Amazing acting from them all, love the talk between Brendan and Chez, I think that she is seeing how much Brendan loves Ste and what he will do for him. You can just see the moment when Brendan's resolve starts to break when he turns and faces Ste after Ste's begging. Brilliant acting by Emmett and Kieron... *runs off to rewatch that kiss again*
can I just say, my gosh, emmett is something else is he? just in that moment when he hit steven his face says it all. You can see the pain all over his face for doing this to him.
that single tear at 3:26 omgosh, Kieron is just amazing isn't he. I just felt his heart breaking all over the fact that, he is thinking to himself that all that he thought he has changed he was wrong.

We'er coming to the point where this relationship is about to come full circle. Yeah they've hooked up a couple of times in the past since Noah. But in reality they've really not been together since their actually break up since Steven's jealousy concerning Pete. That's been a really long time ago. I've always said and believed that Steven leaving Brendan had less to do with the beatings but rather more to do with the fact that Brendan wouldn't stop hiding. Steven wanted to be out and proud as to who he really was, Brendan just wouldn't let him. Brendan not being ready to admit to who he was was forcing Steven to remain in the closet. While many people just didn't like Noah, fact is it was Noah who helped Steven be free and to except himself in public. We must remember that when Steve met Noah he was only out to Amy and Rae, even Cheryl didn't know. The truth is that it was Noah who helped Steven cross that bridge of personal acceptance. That's why he told Brendan when they almost got back together after Noah, that he was not going back into the shadow, not for anyone. As long as Brendan remained in the shadows Steven knew he couldn't be with him. Its the main reason he left Brendan. On the other hand, Brendan couldn't get over the fact that of all people Steven didn't stand up for him over Rae's death. It really hurt Brendan that Steven could actually believe that he would do such a thing. It hurt Brendan and I think that Brendan thought that Steven knew him better. That's why Brendan fired him. Its also why told Steven .....You don't get to ask that anymore. Meaning questions. At this point it really seemed that they had truly lost each other. Neither one would make the first move to reconciliation. So time past on. Many commenters have stated that Noah and Doug had Steven only by default, I must agree. Its become painfully obvious that Steven's true heart were not really with either of the two. Its really been funny to watch how that they, though clearly not together but yet made it a point to stay in close proximity to each other. Which clearly showed that they were obviously still hung up on each other and still madly in love. Even after Brendan's forgiveness of Steven for his betrayal. He no longer kept his distance for that, his main goal was for Steven's safety protection, which explained his constant pushing Steven away. We now come to their soon to be regathering or reuniting. The real catalyst is Doug's own insecurities. Even before Doug's good gesture of sending Steven back to Brendan. Steven had actually ready sought out Brendan days before. I think that Steven had just enough of Doug's insecurities and weakness. for Steven it really took the attraction out of the relationship. He simply got tired of constantly having to affirm his love to Doug. Something Brendan nor Steven had to deal with. They knew they loved each other they were dealing with other issues, namely to be free. I really think that Doug did Steven a misjustice asking him if he was forgiven for trying to set up Brendan. Steven was in no condition, mentally nor physically or emotionally to answer that. For Steven it only spoke to Doug's insecurities. The question was shameful, it was simply not the right time. So here we have Steven at the club standing before Brendan, tell him, all you have to do is ask me, you know I'll stay with you. The real problem with Doug was that he was all about control, the very thing Steven hated They've come full circle, their reunion is about to start.
Yeap, my friend, Brendan's acting was AWESOME! And Kieron's too - let's not forget that tear drop from Kieron due to the utter disbelief that his true love betrayed him once again. It's not the physical punch that hurt him, but the betrayal! I believe Brendan has some control over his demons, as you called them, because he has grown as a man, but the pain of not having the love he wants is enormous! It actually hurts to watch him. Yeah, let's pretend we're drinking together - I'm on my third!
I feel so bad for Brendan !!! ( And poor Ste . ) It must be killing Brendan to know the only way to get Ste away was to hurt him again. I've had to watch this over again four times and I got more upset each time ! That's ridiculous how a show can effect us emotionally . I'm going for a glass ( or two or three) of wine. This is a great love triangle. Ste is so in love with Brendan he's willing to throw away everything for him. Ste loves Doug b/c Doug is the person who can save him from himself.

Right now my stomach is churning after having seen this episode! I can't believe the massive pain Brendan is in by sacrificing his true love - Ste - and the utter sheerdisbelief poor Ste is in - he can't believe that the love of his life just hit him, again! Their scene was actually painful to watch.I know exactly how Brendan feels - selfless love! It takes a big man to give up the one one loves for the better of the other, unlike Doug who is a scheming, SELFISH, cowardly MOF (pardon my french)!
Exactly! Total meltdown on Brendan's part! Nope, it's not obscene to watch that beautiful kiss again and again! It was beautiful, appeared very realistic due to the phenomenal acting of both Emmett and Kieron. Awesome episode!
yea, exactly. you saw how reacted after he kissed Brendan, the look on his face is like he was drugs. yes kieron, he is so good when it comes to show vulnerability. its just subtle and just heartbreaking. it always annoys me he doesn't get awards b/c he is just brilliant.
Ste wanted to slap the bejesus out of Doug right there in front of the deli. And that kiss, the little wispher of Steven by Bren, and when he almost gave into the kiss and that please by bren before punching steve, it was almost a plea from brendan.
Brenden and Ste belong together FYI. Doug Ste loved but not with the same intensity. Same with JP now. At this time Ste could not find a way to let Doug go gently.
I think Doug and loving Doug was a really vital part of Ste's life because in many ways it made him grow as a person and gave him what he needed at that time in his life. (And as such it always upsets me how passionately Doug is hated by a lot of my fellow Ste/Stendan fans). Like Ste said at his funeral,there are different kinds of love... And Doug was in many ways responsible for Stendan working out in the end. I'm not talking about his jealousy/insecurity or even about sending Ste back to Brendan but things like giving Ste the motivation and stength and clearheadedness to trick Brendan (when it came to the Deli) without which,lbr no matter how much in love with Ste Brendan already was at the time, Brendan would have never seen him as someone he couldn't eventually manipulate into being with him/a sure thing (from pretty early on in their relationship Brendan starts implying he believes him and Ste are meant to be together...however up to this point it pretty much always has an undercurrent of 'I could get him back any time I wanted'). For me that's the real starting point to them having a chance at a healthy relationship because Brendan needs to reevalute how he sees Ste. Um...sorry for rambling on and on here.
I never said Doug was not impotant to Ste all I'm saying is Dougs insecurity and trying to set up Brenden was not helping the situation. He was fighting a reality he already knew in his heart. And personlty I think Doug should not have married Ste in the first place knowing the only reason he got Ste was by default. The same way JP is with Ste noe.
I love how Brendan walks by when they're talking about him and I know that Brendan's an asshole but you've gotta remember Ste used to beat up Amy so he's no saint. I think Brendan and Ste deserve each other. Plus they love each other despite all of their shit. While I'd usually say if it didn't work the first time it won't work again I think Stendan would of been one of those couples that could one day make it through.
Emmett is leaving reportedly in Jan, we don't have an official/confirmed date for his departure so he could actually be staying longer. And they film like two months in advance, so that means Brendan will still be there until March or later. So no, we'll have Brendan for more than only two more weeks.
Oh man, I feel the same way! I keep re-watching because I'm still in disbelief, so I had to open my whiskey bottle! I'm on my second drink. I was thinking the same thing you said - how amazing a show effects us so. It's not ridiculous, it's amazing the acting and the writers who wrote this amazing episode. Emmett is a freakin' acting God! The pain written on his face is worthy of the highest acting award! So, drink up!
I say Brendan isn't exiting in January because they shoot 2 months in advance, so when Emmett leaves in 2013 (there is no confirmed date, but one source says Jan.), Brendan would still appear on the show until March. I was trying to clarify the difference between the actor leaving and when Brendan would actually stop appearing on the show. Emmett leaving in January = Brendan exiting in March because of the way they film weeks and weeks in advance of what airs on TV. Hope that makes sense.
okay so i just found a spoilers page and i have to say i feel much better...AND i found out that a ghost from the past comes back!!! i am sooo excited!!!!!
He does go to Dublin (and there will be scenes in Dublin), but he'll be back in Hollyoaks around Christmas time. So no, he isn't leaving for good. Brendan will exit the show next year, we just don't know when exactly or how.
As far as I understand, Ste is essentially saying "Ask me to stay and I will stay", and if Brendan doesn't - Ste will go to America, and Brendan will never see him again. So, Ste uses his knowledge of BB's feelings to get what he wants and what BB refuses to give, i.e. Brendan asking him to stay. People often inadvertently use emotional blackmail, Ste isn't a horrible person because of it. He was just being unfair, imo, especially since he's been constantly telling Brendan he is happy w/Doug.
Your post is so eloquent and precisely what is going on! I totally agree that Ste should not use Doug and set him free, even if he's not with Brendan. People need to make choices, the right ones, even painful ones, and not use others. Which is why I totally respect Brendan for being selfless, and honoring his promise to God (regardless if it's good for him and Ste).
The same people that say they can't get behind Steven and Brendan are probably the same people that it get behind all the straight couples on soaps with the bad boy and the women that shouldn't be with them.
Rumors say Emmett will leave in January, but the date is unconfirmed. All we know for sure is he will be leaving in 2013 to go to L.A. for three months. If he does leave in late January that means Brendan will probably make his exit in March or April. No one knows what the exit will entail: if he'll die or the writers will leave open the option of him returning one day. It's anyone's guess.
I've noticed that large photo in his bedroom of a lonely soul in the beach just like Brendan must've walked alone in the beach when there was no one to protect him from his evil father, must less love him! The enormity of his loneliness and a childhood in a total vaccum of no love is reflected in that photo! He is a wounded but tender soul who has yet to find someone who will grab him by the shoulders and tell him that he is SO worthy of love and not let him go. I had hoped that Ste would have!
Although you weren't initially clear I already knew what you were referring to. However, I NEVER said Brendan was leaving, I SAID EMMETT was leaving in January. Had you carefully read what I said, you would have noticed that I was referring to EMMETT, not Brendan! I know all about filming in advance and when the character lasts appears! Therefore, what I read in Tumblr made sense to me a long time ago! No need to write to me again.

You are indeed correct. Having a catholic upbringing, it was never unusual to hear someone say they had made a deal with God for something or other. I think Brendan is noble in his intentions, and I also think it was a very loving think to do.
It's in Emmett Scanlan Fans Tumblr site. I'm only going by this, which indicated that Emmett is leaving, not me saying so. It does appear to be definite. Just like when Marc Elliot and John Partridge keep saying they were leaving, and they did! Until I hear the contrary, I'm going with this info. Plus, I read it from other posters before I even went to the Tumblr site. I don't want to give to many details for fear of it being considered a spoiler (I don't think it is). Please refer to it.

@Reuben Thomas actually Ste and Doug were at their strongest when Brenden was actively trying to break them up. Once Brenden stopped trying to break them up and they had nothing to join together and fight against their relationship started to break down. It is almost as if there was nothing to hold them together outside of standing against Brenden. After that they just became a ball of mixed emotions and insecurities.
Me too...I sat there pretty much stunned when Brendan popped Ste...next thing I know Ste's walking in the street and Cheryl goes to talk to him . At that point I almost shut the computer off .

Wow. Reading through these comments helps me to understand why this world is so screwed up. This is a classic story of we always want what we can't or shouldn't have. I'm all for giving someone another chance. But, how many times does one need to be beaten to realize it is time to move on.
@arctcvoth. my comments were about the fictional charactor Brendan Brady and not about Emmett Scanlan. I think Emmett is a wonderfully talented actor. Regarding my rewatching episodes. I have watched Hollyoaks since before Brendan and Ste came on the scene and I have watched virtually every episode of theirs. I stand by my assessment of Brendan Brady. Lastly, I have as much right to give a comment as anyone else. Even if it doesn't fall in line with yours. You have a good day.
It was kind of unfair of Ste to emotionally blackmail Brendan with "either ask me to stay or you'll never see me again". After all, Ste did make his oaths to Doug, and he did tell Brendan that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the man. Besides, not too long ago he scammed Brendan and mentioned at every opportunity how much he wanted BB out of his life. And now Ste shifts responsibility for his choice on Brendan. -__-

My initial comment was to someone (desolit100) who said Brendan would be gone from the show in 2 weeks, which isn't true, so I clarified it for them. Then you said I must have some sort of inside information. In response I was only trying to clarify further and explain my original post. Then you accused me of not reading your post properly and are being quite rude actually. I didn't say anything mean or debasing in my comment to you. We're all Hollyoaks fans here, no need for cyber shouting.
What Brendan did was incredibly selfless. I have no doubt that he loves Ste, but he knew that he was just no good for Ste. Ste, on the other hand, is pathetic and he got from Brendan exactly what he deserved. Doug should have someone who will love him wholeheartedly. Now that the Brendan door is closed (and hopefully padlocked) for Ste maybe he will finally come around to being the husband Doug deserves.
yes, I agree. I feel bad for Doug, he has been desperate over the previous episodes but I can understand why and yes at times he made it worse for himself in some sense. i mean I keep getting reminded by my husband about my ex. also Ste didn't make it easy for Doug too but in the beginning he didn't give him any reason to be worry but slowly we started to see their relationship falling apart.
what you fail to understand is brendan was never a saint for his fans, brendan's fans just like him as twisted as he is. that's what makes him so compelling to watch.
I never said that Ste is IN love with Doug but that he loves Doug. Never underestimate the power of friendship, companionship and stability which Ste craves just as much as he does Brendan. If allowed, Ste will flip flop between the two of them. Hell, if he could stay married to Doug and have Brendan as a side piece, he would.
