Yea it should kill anything it makes contact with. But it should have its 10 min reload instead of the magic reload it has right now. If its shell gets buffed to be more realistic then its reload should take longer to keep it realistic.

MBTs failing to penetrate Sturmtiger actually doos make some sense. The hull UFP on this thing is 70mm RHA at 80° (yes, you read that right). In simulations, Russian 3BM42 Mango barely goes through M1A2 UFP which is 38mm at 82.5°. Of course the MBT will need very bad luck to hit that tiny strip of extremely sloped armor.
It still surprises me that, despite the "holidays", Phly is still able to -> 13:28 drive in a straight line through one of the most guarded areas on the maps, in top tier, with a WW2 vehicle without anyone seeing him. XD I guess it's the magic of RU-vid, Great video as always.
I had a 6.3 game where I got 6 kills with my Sturmtiger (4 came after losing my loader and commander) and no one noticed a 60 ton behemoth in the rear lobbing rockets at point blank range two of which they were within 150 meters of each other....I still don't understand.
I agree that the Sturmtiger should have an accurate ammo explosion, but if it kills teammates and perhaps even punishes you for TKing with minus SL, it would take all the fun and usability out of the vehicle.
i mean wouldnt the kinetic energy of a ~400kg shell going 250m/s alone be enouth to absolutely rip the turret-ring apart? i have seen pictures of Panzer 4's hit by a KV2/SU152 AP-shell. the shell somehow didnt penetrate but delivered so much energy it just ripped the turret of.
CHALLENGE: GET A KILL USING INDIRECT FIRE What you will need: 1 vehicle with scout UAV, at least one 38cm Sturmmorser, one 15cm slG 33 B Sfl (optional if you want to fine tune your range since the reload is super short and the shell velocity is pretty much the exact same with the 38cm Sturmmorser) How to rangefind: Measure the distance between you and the squad marker on the minimap with a ruler Formula : Minimap scale (the number on the bottom right on your minimap) divided by the width of one box on the minimap, then multiply by the distance you got using the ruler. For example: Minimap scale: 200 Width of one box on minimap: 1.5cm (keep in mind your number may be different depending on how big your monitor is) Measured distance from you to teammates squad ping on minimap: 6.8cm Actual distance from you to teammates squad ping in game: (200/1.5) x 6.8 = 906.67m Get people to practice with and within like 3 matches you'll be lobbing deadly accurate 750lb rockets across the map from spawn within 5 seconds of squad ping Edit: Have gotten 7 kills in the past 2 days.
I think the line up should be all 150mm up. 15cm Sig 33b fl, 15cm PZ.W.42, Brumbar, Strumtiger, Kpz-70(maybe) and no atgms. That derp gotta be lobbed over them hills😏.

@@charlesleethesonandfathero14 I actually got a kill with both the Brummbär (hit enemies track and it overpressured the vehicle) and the Sturmpanzer (lucky sideshot on a sherman/jumbo in bushes). Both vehicles are valid even in Top Tier, you can see 1.0 Sturmpanzers quite regularily there and also get kills.
Hey phly, IDK if you are a fan of it or not, but you should enable the option to show battle achievements on screen during Realistic battles. Give yourself that rush of GOdMode more often and show newer players what badges there are to earn in game to farm SL.

The Sturmtiger is kind of inconsistent. These rockets have almost as much boom in them as a 250kg bomb yet they don't do as much damage. It's kind of sad how bad Gaijin nerfed the Sturmtiger.
Use the platoon mark, it only aims at a point on the ground. Set the range and poke in the direction of the target looking at the minimap. So you can hit a lone tank with one hit.
The reason why the shell goes through the Arrowhead armor on the leopard is that those addon cheeks are basicly just hollow pockets of steel with some smaller plates inside, meant to diffuse HEAT jets and break apart APFSDS shells.

actually probably not. Even though the shell has 135kg of explosive it still works just like any other HE shell and needs to hit near a part with thin armor to overpressure
@@_invencible_ Granted the purpose of the 279 was mainly to traverse and cross through extreme and rugged terrain where other tanks couldn't, it was also designed to survive a nuclear shockwave. That is different compared to being hit by a rocket with 135kg of explosives directly.

The sturmtiger spam has been absolutely dragging Germany's winrate to new lows. Nothing worse than having 10 sturms that leave after dying and get no kills
So based entirely off the Bismarks 38cm shells that only had 69kg explosive filler(as opposed to 135kg). Lets take the hits on the hood for actual real world effect. The first detonating shell hit on the hood melted and deformed the turret armour and barbette armour of the primary armament. it made a near wave like shape leaving almost only structural steal and a thin layer of the actual plate. That was between 300 and 380 MM of armour deformed ALONG the plate by the explosion.... That cannon barrel would of been turned into molten slag and thrown across the battlefield like one of my GI joe toys when I was 12 and checking a tantrum. Thats best case scenario. In all likely "hood", it would be broken down into such small pieces that they wouldnt even hold much thermal potentail and be turned into a wave of sharp shrapnel being sprayed everywhere. You wouldn't of just killed an abrams gun but mostly likely yourself and all your brothers in arms in the near area. On a side note about old school super weapons: Large kinetic weapons weren't discontinued because they didn't have potential, they were shelved for many years(see the resurgence of 155mm) because they were expensive and a technical kill could be achieved with alot less by using clever modern design. The bismarks cannons and other 380/381mm cannonade would still be just as devestating today as they were back then. Not much aside from a lucky extremely fortified bunker would of been able to withstand even a single close hit from such a gun right up until maybe the 2015's when the composite armour of tanks reached a theoretical absurd level of thermal resistance but this still hasn't been tested in real world or well documented situations and is still very top secret.
How could the concussion from a direct 380mm rocket hit NOT completely disable the crew on any tank? They might not be killed but how could they still function?
War thunder should just model the impact the same as a 200lb bomb direct impact. What's the radius on that? Couple meters at least. Direct impact certainly a kill on any vehicle...
Phly if you want a good reaction with the sturmtiger in the pen test shoot the right side of the m1a2 sep directly on the identification panel's center it might take a few tries but it is well worth it

All I'm saying is that if this thing ever went into mass production... the ammunition exploding in the tank would have been a righteous sight, and there wouldn't have been much left of the sturmtiger to see afterwards... at least not within a 50 metre radius

Perhaps a taboo question but I'll ask it since I'm early in the video and late in the event. Should I buy golden eagles to get this thing before the event ends? No, I'm not quite at 6.3 yet, I'm around 5.3 in Germany.
If you want the sturmtiger you should get it since we don’t know if it will ever come back. If you want a rank 4 premium to grind germany don’t get the sturmtiger.
The shell used on the Sturmtiger also has an interresting design history ! If i recall right it originally was supposed to be an an Anti-sub round for Battelships hence the caliber of 380mm like on the Bismarck class ! It was modified later on to bring down buildings and fortificatons instead ! Since there is no space for the equipment (like a gun weighing 111 tons / at leat 6 powder packs per shell ) to fire those rounds normaly like you would battelship , they added a rocketmotor to the round itself ! A typical crazy late war story of german engineering , but i guess it just shows how creative you can get if you back is against the wall !
What would be interesting would be seeing the Strumtiger in arcade, where no one can hide. It would be worth it just to see some more arcade play, at the very least.
You need to try a video where you only use AA cause for some reason they shred through tanks and planes BUT there only downside is that they have no armor and that is not always the case
