I would cut the lock or hasp depending on what would be cheapest to replace, and if I needed to save the cylinder I would use destructive force to the body in the spots I know to get it to let go of the cylinder
I'm nowhere near picking one of these locks yet, but your descriptions while picking really help me to "listen" to what locks of my level are trying to tell me. One day...
You will be there some day as I was right where you are before. I remember watching BB pick locks like this thinking no way could I do that, now their just another challenge. Slow down, feel the pins, let them talk to you.
I got one of those coming in the mail as well! Can't wait to play with it, especially after watching your video :) Great picking with those barrels, they can be tricky to get the feel of. What I find works really well for me with barrels, is to look at it like there are 2 seperate stages. 1st stage: lift all the barrels into the milling. This stage, because of the nature of barrels and their shape, there will have very unclear feedback sometimes a pin will be binding a bit then stop binding with no click, or sometimes nothing is binding at all. The trick for this stage is to be a bit calous and just focus on lifting the pins with light-medium, without worrying too much about oversetting. When I approach it like this, I notice that the barrels will enter stage 2 pretty quick. Stage 2: slight false set, and sometimes you won't even notice the false set, that being said, the pins will start to feel stiff at the top of their travel. At this point I move to medium to heavy tension, and start testing pins. It's pretty hard to overset barrels when you get to this point unless you go light tension. So I keep it heavy and only lighten up as I am pushing on a pin that is being a bit stubborn. The difference between a set barrel and a not set one that is trapped in the milling from my experience is that the one in the milling is stiff with very little to no jiggle, and when pushed hard as you lighten tension ever so slightly, you will notice it wants to go higher by giving you very slight counter rotation. Where the one that is set will feel like it has a very slight amount of jiggle space but also feel like it doesn't want to go anywhere when you press hard on it even as you lighten up tension a bit while pushing on it. Also, always hold the sidebar when pulling the plug, to avoid having it pop out on you and potentially lose those tiny sidebar springs :-S Ps. As a locksmith, I personally would try to pick it for the fun haha :P Thanks for the great video!
Gotta say Albert, You never cease to amaze with your lock picking skills! I too have take to collecting the round body padlocks. I even scored a round body (the barrel design) brass American padlock! I also collect Masterlock Model 19's, and other vintage Masterlocks. I need to obtain your mailing address, I still have a couple of the Model 19's to send you. One for the Stock lock Sunday, and one to add to Locks without borders....
Thanks so much. LOTS of practice. I do Cadd drafting by day and gets stressful so lock picking and tinkering takes me to my happy place. All my contact info is under the ABOUT tab on my home page. That would be fantastic
That's a very beautiful Assa padlock😍 I've been trying to source one here down under but final cost is usually over $100 just for the body😬 The Assa barrel spools with matched counter milling are definitely a pain to pick so nice work😀✌️
Counter milling, I keep forgetting what that is called, I keep thinking serrated but it's not. Ya, these things are not cheap but gosh are they made well. The machining is just beautiful. If there was ever a sexy lock this would be it. Thanks so much for checking it out
What a beautiful expensive secure quality lock. Assa is quality. Nice picking Albert twice over with those barrel pins. Awesome picking on an awesome lock. I would get one of those. May have to save up. But yeah the lock will last forever. Take care.
Great picking!!! Beautiful Beast of a lock!!!😀 On the push button Shackle release I have a Federal 730 that has it. Another Beautiful Beast of a padlock. I got the ASSA Abloy model 902 and if I remember correctly it came with no core. At present it has a Schlage Everest core. Not the challenge of the core in yours. Thanks buddy 🐾🐈🐈⬛🐾🇺🇸
Damn Big Al, I don't think they make prettier round body padlocks! Gorgeous machining, and that core put up a hell of a fight. Still was no match for you 😁 take care buddy! 👍👍
Albert as always you are a consummate professional great picking, still love the american drawl in your voice you are the Muttz Nuttz keep up the great work/vids.
Anything that takes a kik, half profile, oval or snowman, are just shells, so most of the picking depends on what is fitted inside. Same with the ruko2 and Abus 83. With Assa and Ruko it is normal to have just one key for everything, so you can get cylinders with or without sidebars depending on the needed Security level. The pure 6 pin version is cheap compared to the high security version, and you still get a restricted key
Outstanding ! Thank you for the feedback. I was looking it over and the machining is just fantastic. I agree, this one was probably on the low end but still a great lock. Their more affordable version
Quite welcome sir! I haven't looked lately to see what's out there. I'll check and keep an eye out. Mostly work and set some time for pin making and experiments with ideas for CLs to send out and once I get certain ones honed in, I hope you will be able to tell a better difference than the one I sent you. Stay safe and well brother and excellent picking 👍👍🦾🦾
Challenge: If I can pull off the first comment on next Stock Lock Sunday, will you send me a challenge lock? In return, I'll send you my first attempt at a challenge lock. I'll even make it a round body. I've got some ideas...
Shoot me an email. I would recommend just buying cylinders from CLK supplies instead of ruining a round body padlock. 😳 I like them too much. But I also believe in the old “To each their own”.
