I've been wanting to fix this for more than a year and every new set of cards we buy seems to have the same problem, the case rips shortly after. Of course these are fixable with some packing tape, and that seems to last... but it isn't right. So in this video, we take it to the extreme and design a case which is meant to be changed to suite any size of card you can throw at it. From baseball and hockey to Playing cards and Matching cards.
As usual I have been using Fusion 360, but I am planning on trying out some free softwares soon to see how they stack up with their features.
In this video I show some basics on setting up a parametric drawing, and show how it is possible to take a sketch from a picture into a DXF file and then use it within the drawing to personalize your 3D prints.
The final cases worked perfectly, the only change I would make is to flatten the taller stacks and have them stacked beside each other to be able to store them better in a shallow drawer.
I've printed for playing cards, hockey cards, Uno, Skipbo and another set of playing cards. With the gap I used they all slide in nice. I've dropped one case so far onto the concrete floor and it did not break!

All of the filament I've used in the video was Bambu Lab filament, and I had no issues. My favorite was the Red Sparkle, however it is a little bit see-thru when using thinner layers like I have.

Clever snaps! And those color changes for the cover pictures are awesome.

But how do you do the clasp. I feel like you glossed over the most important part. Either that or I just completely missed it, which is 100% possible.

I don't think I went into great detail on it, the clasp is simply a small 'prism'... an extruded triangle on the outer lip of the box, the lid has the opposing piece cutout with a very small amount of clearance added to make sure it wasn't too tight. These worked really well. If the box is thin walled and taller, it'll have more flex and they work really well, if the box is short and has thick inners, it doesn't like to flex much and can be harder to get the lid off, but still doable. If there is some interests in clasps/catches/snaps, I can aways research and show a video on the subject. My channel is pretty much dedicated to 3d printing, and I want to make content that you guys need.

Same, i came here specifically to learn about the clasp (it was in the title, after all). Glad OP replied with some followup. But the real question is - what are the tolerances??

Nice idea. Would have thought about a slot on the side to take out individual cards when use it on the table during windy conditions.

I didn't think of that, send me a sketch if you get a chance and I can whip something up.

Great video, I love the "So I'm sure you're not here to see me draw some lines if that's what you're into I'm sure there's a different RU-vid channel for that".

There really is a channel for everyone... some probably don't belong on YT I'd guess. I think a line drawing channel would really need to incorporate all of the sounds of the drawing of those lines. Could be a good Parody video!

@@NeedItMakeIt Oh defenitly, I designed a card holder myself a while ago, it's not perfect yet, but it gets the job done. It was quite hard to do (Not very good a fusion), as I aslo made my own card etc. The card are like dimond shape. How do you think I could imrpove it? drive.google.com/drive/folders/1fqdEmjIeFEPzdrJeQDOLR1a-_aFh8BQk?usp=sharing

Super nice. I am a rookie for 3d printing. How can you tell the printer the color you would like to print? Do you just assign any color in the 3D Fusion software? This is super cool. Thank you so much and keep rocking 😃🎉

Did you use a Dxf file for canvas? If so how did you get it from the 7club card?

I took an image online the most crisp one I could find, put that into the JPEG to DXF Converter and prayed that it worked. For this one, it did work really well, sometimes it doesn't like the images and won't close the shapes, finding those tiny gaps is nearly impossible. I'm still trying to find better ways to do this. I seem to have the best results if I trace the images in a sketch software, and then I can convert to DXF, maybe the contrast helps?

Do you have design shared anywhere? I'm working on something similar in Fusion 360 and would love the file to see it for reference.

I am wanting to buy a cabinet garbage can but it doesn't come with a lid so I wanted to design one, but I'm wondering if the smells would be contained, but I imagine it would be better then no lid at all
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 10 месяцев назад
I can say that our garbage under our sink tends to smell especially when we thrown out anything with meat juice in it. On the other side, the lid along with the garbage bag inside do a pretty good job of containing it until you open it up, so hold your breath!
@The2Coolest2
@The2Coolest2 10 месяцев назад
@@NeedItMakeIt That's what I figured...people were writing oh the cabinet itself should serve as the lid...why would I want the whole cabinet smelling immediately?
@NeedItMakeIt
@NeedItMakeIt 10 месяцев назад
@@The2Coolest2 I've no clue, aside from them enjoying the smell of garbage. We use a small garbage, it forces us to have to change it more often and keeps the smells down.
@The2Coolest2
@The2Coolest2 10 месяцев назад
@@NeedItMakeIt Yeah these cans are small. It's the "simplehuman 35 Liter / 9.3 Gallon Dual Compartment". I don't really have a suitable spot in this kitchen for a standing garbage can unless it's right next to the front door. The cabinet though is not sealed so id be worried about rodents. So my idea was to make a 3d printed lid and maybe put a knob in the center to be able to pick up the lid.

There are free softwares out there if you don't want to pay, Onshape, plasticity, and of course TinkerCAD (I can't get the hang of this one). Is there something in particular you're trying to create?
