Devin, you are like my favorite 3d print youtuber! And also jabba dude, that thing is super dope! You should make a leah to go with it. And Devin, totally unrelated, you should continue trying 3d fabric, that was also super dope! Im kinda rambling now cuz its quite early in the morning here but long story short, SUPER DOPE.

zorro fox I’m not really sure how to answer that since I’m not sure what the scale is of their model, or how big the probe droid should be in real life. You could just try asking them. It will probably just come down to making your best guess

Hey just a tip but try using a small saughtering however you spell it iron to melt and fuse the prints together instead of superglue. It’s better for connecting them
@jakerdy5369
@jakerdy5369 3 года назад
Seams could be reinforced with hot glue. You will need 100+ watt gluegun, and lots of sticks. Than, "draw" with glue along all seams, on inside of the model, with line about 1-2cm wide and 4+ mm thick. It will join parts together really tightly, and, because of elastic nature of hot glue. It will hold together pretty good, because all stress applied to model, will be relaxed in this glue seams, and they wouldn't craced as ca glue or epoxy.

Awesome glad the shell is working out! When we did E.T. this method was great with just a little assembly difficulty. On his head we recut it and let mesh mixer fill in the hole. This gave us the outside shape with interior walls but no infill. Really impressed with the progress! Going to be an awesome result!

Yes, come to think of it your ET was one of the first examples I saw of this approach, although you didn't use the shell approach (not really necessary for something ET's size).

It was from Build It And They Will Come, which is a subscription service for Star Wars-related STLs. You’d have to join and also purchase that file separately. 9:22 LOL - when you showed the 0.4mm nozzle and then showed the next nozzle, my immediate thought was “1mm” so I was surprised when you said 0.8mm and then I chuckled when you revealed it actually was a 1mm nozzle. Too many years spent in a workshop. Pupils would bring me something that had to be covered or whatever and I’d ask them what size and they’d not know. With one look I’d estimate it to within a couple of millimetres, or swap easily between metric and imperial measurements. Awesome project. I saw this “jigsaw” style method of printing parts to be put together to form a larger item but never to this scale!
@timmc6009
@timmc6009 6 лет назад
WOW!!! This is quite the undertaking. You must have a pretty big room to be putting that in lol. Will you make it so it comes apart in a few pieces so you can move it around? I was thinking maybe using a expanding foam to fill the body and provide some support might be a good idea. Can't wait to see more progress. Great job\idea mighty jabba.

glue the left side of the head thats fitting well now, then when its dry use a ratchet strap (or two) wrapped around the head to pull the seam/gap closed, thats how i would do it. you might have to put a piece of board or something under the strap against the face to pull it at the correct angle

just a shot in the dark here, but i'm guessing youre going to need some type of support structure for the body. i can only imagine as you build from tail to body, then head, if you don't have supports inside, the belly will blow out once the weight of the upper body/head goes on.
@MightyJabbasCollection
@MightyJabbasCollection 6 лет назад
We’ll see how it goes. The head is surprisingly sturdy, but I can always try adding some bracing inside if need be

It does look sturdy and from my experience printing larger pieces like this I would say that you definitely do not have to worry about supporting it more unless you are trying to move it around a lot. I am very excited to see this in full!
@demijebus6831
@demijebus6831 6 лет назад
Support would definitely be recommended in the final peice. You could do this on the cheap by simply creating make shift I Beams from PVC pipe to run down the middle of the structure. It would be super light and make a great support for assembly. Glue some eva foam to the cross members to give the print something to grab onto and your golden. Super excited for this project.

I guess it depends on how much you think “low cost” is, and what you want to do with it. The CR-10 is a good machine for not too much money and has enough build volume to do most projects. But there are cheaper ones too.

I cannot wait to see this finished... also to get the file to print my much smaller version of this very detailed stl file. I wonder if you should not try to attach the head and tail sections with strong magnets so you can transport this to conventions and such? Just an idea.

Is there any particular reason you're not using some kind of interlocking pin/hole kinda system to align and join the pieces?

Well, that would require editing all of the pieces, and the shells are kind of too thin to make that easy as well. I do plan to build him in several sections so he can be transported, and I will be adding add some brackets of some kind with strong magnets to align those sections
