I dunno, I feel like it's honest. I don't want to make everything perfect, I want to talk to interesting people about interesting things.

the 1st walking stick I ever saw was years ago. Walking up our driveway with my school books and just kicking the rocks and sticks. Well I about near had heart failure when one of the sticks got up and started walking toward me!! I could not believe what I was seeing, I'd never even heard of them before that. Funny now when I tell my grandchildren but sure wasn't then.

3D printing is amazing; we have a couple printers at our scool, and one of them has two substances; one that is dissolvable in a special solution. This means you can make "support" with that one, and print things that are "immposible", like a ball in an open pyramid-shape too small for the ball to ever come out without breaking the structure around it. Hard to explain, but absolutely magical.

I like it because it keeps everything really informal, which is probably the best part of this segment and really this channel in general. Makes it feel more open, like this is just some acquaintance you know having a light science-related conversation you happen to be sitting in on. It's nice. There's a place for formal interaction and a place for informal, and I like that talkshow that makes it informal. Better than always being a talking head =]

This was more informal than usual, it had a more sci show hang out feel...which I felt was good. I love watching these, thanks for making them and sharing.

The memories! I used to raise those walking sticks for years! I got one for my birthday a while back! We'd feed it leaves off my orange tree! It laid eggs and I had about a hundred tiny sticks! I wound up with 3 generations of walking sticks for about 5 years. :)

I can see why they'd make owning them require a permit, if they're that prolific! Just imagine if a couple got loose, or worse were turned loose when someone got bored with them. Wouldn't take long for them to take over an area!

Plastic products are mass-produced everywhere. There's so much of the stuff around that asking what the environmental effects of 3-D printers are is like asking about how the ocean's salinity is affected by the addition of a bucket of table salt.

Love this video. I live in Texas and I once found a 10 inch long walking stick near my driveway. It may have fallen out of the tree that is right next to it. It had died sadly but it was amazing to see such a large one. I have not seen one that big since then but I see the smaller ones around quite often. - Heidi

I used to have stick insects as pets, so I already knew all about them. But we had to get rid of them because they multiplied to fast for us to handle. I sort of miss them now, even though while we had them they just sat there upside down, chewing on leaves... And for the record Hank, I think their mouth pars are adorable! And up close their eyes are super adorable.

A lot of hobbyist 3d printers use PLA. It's typically corn-based, recyclable, and biodegradable; also used in some implantable medical devices (like limited duration stents). You can use ABS, Poly-carbonate, and others if needed, but the PLA is the cheap stuff and covers most/a lot of uses (I've made everything from cups to worm gears with it).

Of course, it might also be that, like me, names are not what makes you remember a person by, but their stories, their actions, and their attitudes. :D I for one liked the fact that he left it in the end-result, and not did a re-take. Shows him human, I guess.

The hospital I work at recently purchased a 3D printer. They're using it to print life size models of actual patient organs using data taken from CT scans! The main application is for surgeons to actually get their hands on the organs they will be operating on so they can plan out the surgery ahead of time. Welcome to the future.

I hate it when people think that forgetting somebody's name means you don't care about what they have to say. Often I am totally immersed in what they say and do it's just I have asked for their name as a pleasantry and a way of getting their attention when speaking to them.
