3DS Dock USB C Mod 

Haha, that's because I cant ever find the stupid Nintendo charger so I never really play it. Easy to charge up now. Thanks for watching. I Will do a tear down next, kinda crazy how small the pcb is in this dock. Mostly plastic. It got pretty toasty when soldering since there isn't much too it.

There are extra steps for power delivery. If you watch my DSI Mod I go in depth showing how to pull the port. The 3ds has the same port as the DSI. You have to add a couple of 5.1k resistors connecting the middle two pins of the usb c connector to ground to get Power Delivery to function. Otherwise it will charge at 500mah max via usb a-c vs up to 1.5amp via power delivery c to c.

Make sure to purchase a package of female ports. Usually come in a pack of 5 or more. If you want USB C to C Power delivery then you need to add a couple 5.1k Ohm resistors to the two middle pins one on each. I have 1/4 watt smd ones but maybe carbon film ones might be easier to do if that is an added feature you want.

Good place to learn. Cant mess up the console even if you do something wrong there is a little fuse labeled F1 that will just pop and it wont bust your 3ds. Check out my teardown to see what it looks like just a little small board on the inside. For the basic version you just need to remove two wires temporarily to get the board out and solder two points on for the type c port. Best stuff to try on is stuff collecting dust. Breath some new life into your old gadgets.

the 3ds charging port does not have any form of data transfer interface in it, it is physically only capable of supplying power to the 3ds. If you wanted to do what you wanted to do, you would have to create leads for every single pin in the 3d card slot, then replace the 3ds charging slot with a USB c slot, and then connect these leads to the USB c slot somehow while also connecting it to the parts that supply power. Even then the behavior is unpredictable, being plugged in while playing might cause electrical issues in the sd card slot. And you would also have to figure out how to connect all the leads to act like a USB to sd card converter etc.

No, This is just capable of charging the 3ds with a standard usb c to a cable. What are you trying to transfer to the 3ds? You can use FTP to transfer from your pc to your modded 3ds via wifi. Might be a decent work around. What Alex said below is totally possible and the only way that makes sense, I wouldnt want to try it personally though. I almost feel like you would need to cram a usb to sd adapter inside the 3ds and strip it to nothing and use that to wire into the sdcard slot, and then it would cause issues if the device is on I bet. Anything is possible given enough time and energy.
