@@kratos.8151 I worked regularly as a private tutor and played Halo to death with my housemates on our 360s. It doesn't come up because it's a Nintendo channel 😉
I miss streetpass so much 😭 I used to have an annual pass at Disneyland when the price was actually affordable and I would streetpass people soooo often 🥺
I think it was in 2014 when they made an update where you'll just have to visit a Nintendo zone which are basically just Starbucks, McDonald's, etc. And you'll automatically get 6 street pass visitors. That's what I used to do. Just enter McDonald's for 5 seconds then come out 😂😂
It's unfortunate that I have to miss out on a bunch of content because I only recently got my 3ds, already took it out multiple times but I didn't encounter anyone else carrying around one, despite my town being pretty big in terms of people. My mii is probably going to be in that cage forever lol
I had that every weekend in Habana back in Cuba, in an abandoned place calle Sport city where a lot of gamers and sellers reunite to play locally, sell, buy and exchange games and cards, repairing consoles, organizing Mario Kart 7 tournaments, going hunting in Monster Hunter 4U and many many more fun games!! 😭 that was in a long past back in 2015 more or less. Today comunism amd covid did what they now best, destroy everything!!
Wow, 10 years?! I just pulled my 3ds out last night for the first time in over a year. Such a good little system that still has a lot of great games to return to.
@@internetguy7319 Homebrewed it last week and now I have a whole spreadsheet of games to go through. The 3ds had a surprising amount of sleeper hits, with some really weird ones like a bunch of shin megami tensei games and whatnot. Strange but great library
The 3DS may still be my favorite Nintendo handheld of all time, it was the system that got me through a lot of car trips and it got me through middle school, so many amazing games and experiences!! I love that little handheld 💙
One thing that makes me grateful to have a 3DS and a collection of games for it is that it's an extremely difficult system to properly emulate. Between the screen layout, the touch screen controls, and of course the 3D effect it's just impossible to get a true 3DS experience on a computer or emulator handheld.
It's not for the 3DS but I have an emulator for DS games (DraStic) on my old android phone. If you're going to emulate DS games I think playing on a device where you can use a touch screen improves the experience. But some DS games are too gimmicky to be played on an emulator, mostly games that force you to use the microphone or rely heavily on the touch screen ( I can think of Spectrobes, and LoZ: Phantom Hourglass, maybe Nintendogs?).
@@CinnamonOwO Citra can emulate the games well enough I’m sure, but it can’t emulate the 3D effect or the general feel of playing a real 3DS, which is what the games were designed for in the first place. Don’t get me wrong, emulation is amazing, but games designed for specialized hardware are best played on that hardware.
F*cking THANK YOU! The 3DS is the one system I constantly advocate for playing on the original handheld because it’s impossible to emulate the 3D properly. I have friends, who never got the 3DS, relieved it finally died to make room for the Switch. They always saw 3D to be just a gimmick, and that they could just emulate a game if they were interested. It makes me so sad because much of the fundamental enjoyment comes from the 3D, so I often leant my 3DS to them to give them the full experience. A couple of them actually saved up and bought some used 3DS systems after that lol.
I remember getting the OG model in November in 6th grade, then having to wait until Christmas to get any actual games! I played a lot of Face Raiders that month.
The 3DS is one of the most important consoles in Nintendo’s history. It did have an abyssal start but with time, had an incredible library and features that we are yet to see come to the Switch. It’s was a special in a lot of ways and for a good few years, carried Nintendo and was the power horse of the company. Especially during the time when the WiiU was out and nose diving in sales. Awesome video Gentlemen.
The 3DS family carried Nintendo through the Wii U dark ages and if we take DS and virtual console into account, it has the biggest and most diverse catalogue of games of any system made in the past decade, hell maybe even the biggest library of all time
@@sawkchalk6966 adding original DS/DSi backwards compatibility into the equation, the 3DS does indeed appear to have the largest library ever for a handheld system.
Exactly! Remember when the 3DS came out, those few games that it had was garbage, supermario 3D Land makes the switch successful and help lift up the Nintendo with it.
Yo bro this is 100% NOSTALGIA. The street pass, game time plays etc. damn. Missin the good old days when playing is enough and graphic is just below our taste buds.
@@Schimnesthai are there still people that play online in the 3ds ? I only played mine for single player games but its nice to see that there are still people playing online on the system.
@@Portersona69420 Still have my 3ds my favorite games on the system are oracina of time and 3d land haven’t played miitopia but if I do get it I will probably get the switch version
Ah I remember getting the 3ds for Christmas. I was 10 years old and it was 2011. I got Mario kart 7 with it and Mario 3d land. I loved that system so much.
Get ready for a walk of text, because I’m explaining my experience with the 3DS here lol. I’m really sad that I missed out on the 3DS. My family only really focused on the Wii, DS, and Wii U. I still only had my DS Lite, my older brother was the only one who had a 3DS, and we didn’t get much games for it. From what I can remember, we had NSMB2, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Sonic Generations, Sonic Lost World, and Smash 4. We didn’t get much big games for the 3DS, (only Smash 4 really) since we got big games for the Wii and Wii U instead, and my older brother spent money on upgrading the 3DS to the XL and New XL. Now that I’m older and understand what games the 3DS had, I definitely missed out. But I couldn’t exactly do anything about it. I was still a kid, didn’t have much money, and I wanted console games instead. Now, I’m a teenager, still don’t have much money, and still want console games instead lol. For me, the 3DS was heavily overshadowed by the consoles, especially since I didn’t own one myself and the games my older brother got for it weren’t too appealing compared to the console games we got. But I have to mention, I *REALLY* missed out on the Pokemon games. I’m only just getting into Pokemon, and the 3DS was literally the *best* system to get into the series. There’s Pokemon X and Y, Sun and Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, AND you could also play the DS Pokemon games! Which includes Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, White, their sequels, and Soul Silver and Heart Gold. THAT MEANS you could play Gen 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 ALL on the 3DS. WHAT THE FUCK I MISSED OUT HARD.
Experiencing some of the 3DS is better than not experiencing it all! You did have some of the big titles. Though yeah you did miss out on the swan song of Pokemon, cause the series started going downhill after the 3DS era in my opinion.
The Nintendo 3DS is my all-time favorites dedicated handheld system and one of my favorite video game systems (home console/handheld) ever!!!! I hope Nintendo is seriously considering a successor to the N3DS.
I remember travelling around Japan in 2013 with my 3DS and passed a chap on the subway who was also playing that street pass game. He was so excited to match with someone from the UK that he jumped up in excitement, shuffled up to me, proceeded to stab away at my avatar on his 3DS and said "It's you!!". Very unusual but such a perfect example of the little things that made the 3DS great!
I randomly got my 3DS when I walked into Best Buy to buy a new handheld after losing my DSi XL despite never hearing about the 3DS at all. I saw it on store shelves, was skeptical, bought it, and had fun. I ended up buying another one at launch because I had no friends who had it and wanted to complete the StreetPass games, then the New 3DS came out so I bought that too. Now I have four of them because a friend also gave me theirs as a gift.
Man I still remember that gorgeous Blue launch 3DS and playing SF4 with the boys! It was SUCH a good game and a great demo for what the system could be. I was still playing Pokemon Black so I didn't need a "killer app" at launch. The Ambassador games were nice
I picked one up last year, a new 3ds. I just fell in love with the system, bought an animal crossing New 3ds XL and started collecting and playing the fantastic library of games this console have. My Switch have been picking up dust for a little while now...
The 3DS is my nostalgia console, and an amazing Pokemon machine from late teenhood to adulthood back when it was literally all I wanted to play. My top 10 most played games are dominated by 100+ hour games and 8 Pokemon games. My top 3 included Alpha Sapphire, Moon, and Ultra Moon in that order, all have 1000+ hours into them. I'm actually playing my 3DS right now, currently alternating between Mario Golf: World Tour and Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary.
10 years ago i was 8 years old, now i’m an adult😶, when i first picked up my 3ds in 2011, the game i got for it was ocarina of time 3d and i was j blown away, being able to play ocarina of time 3d on the go and the game looked great
The Nintendo 3DS is one of my favorite consoles of all time. It has so many incredible games that still make me feel happy to play today. Even today, I'm downloading and picking up games that I missed out on for the system, and they're creating new awesome memories for me. Just like the gamecube, it has one of the most impressive lineups of games on an often less-talked about system. Happy 10 Years to the Nintendo 3DS!
I had a friend who worked at nintendo when the 3DS dropped. As an employee he got his system early. My wife contacted em, and told him she was going to buy one for me. He gave her his early system before he opened it, and I got it like 2 weeks early. 3DS is a great system man.
23:00 Alex's kitty, a New 3DS XL, Animal Crossing memories.... literally everything that makes me happy in the world right there. This is my happy place.
With how quickly the Switch was selling and the hype it got when it first launched, it was kinda inevitable. To most people, having 2 portable devices (yes I know the Switch is a hybrid) to develop for didn't make sense. People didn't want to deal with Nintendo potentially splitting resources. It's a bit of a shame, considering the immense backlash for the 3DS still being produced around the Switch's launch is what caused the system to die so quickly.
Shin Megami Tensei IV will always be my favorite 3DS game. Such a beautiful game with thought-provoking themes that still leaves a memorable impression on me to this day.
I was 5 when the 3DS came out and I always wanted one. I might get one at some point soon since there's so many games that I really want to play that aren't available on Switch, like A Link Between Worlds, Metroid Samus Returns, Ocarina of Time 3D and Mario 3D Land.
I love the 3DS. It's 2021 and I just upgraded my old 3DS to a New 2DS XL and am enjoying it. Fire Emblem and Monster Hunter enough reasons alone for me to have the console but there are tons of other great games on it too like A Link Between Worlds, which is my favorite Zelda game.
I bought a 3ds at launch, and recently found out one of my family members has my og 3ds, and im going to be getting it back in my hands again this year
I owned a 3DS ever since late 2011 (I was in 1st grade) I still have my original blue 3DS, I love that system to death and I am feeling old now that it’s been 10 years. The 3DS shaped my childhood and it’ll always be my favorite portable of all time.
I hardly touch my Switch, still playing my 3DS everyday. Best console ever. What I love about the 3DS is the many original games developed for the system, the Switch on the otherhand is just flooded with games available on every platform, it's quite a dull console in comparison. The Switch needs more original titles, not just re-releases.
i got a NEW 2DS XL for christmas and i’ve been playing 3DS games lately more than ever. i feel like now is the best time to take advantage of the 3DS while you can still play online & use the e-shop. i love my 2DS XL and i carry it around almost as much as my iphone
If you've ever got the time, I think a NintendoLife Podcast would be super awesome! Been really enjoying these discussion videos recently and they're very well suited to podcast potentially :) Of course the video format is also great, just throwing an idea out there!
"We cut the price in half because it felt like the right thing to do" Damn, I wish that Nintendo was selling me a 10 year old wii game with spruced up visuals
My 3ds has been getting so much love lately. My collection is really growing and I’m surprised at how expensive it is to collect for. Really regretting all of the digital downloads I made in the past.
I really miss the simple graphics of the 3DS. Switch is amazing, but there's almost too much information density on the screen when you design games meant to be viewed at both small and large scale.
I fired up my 3DS for the first time since having kids to check my activity log to compare: 1) Super Smash Bros for 3DS: 325 hrs (plus 10 more on the demo) 2) Pokemon X: 195 hrs 3)Fire Emblem Awakening: 180 hrs 4) Pokemon Diamond: 100 hrs 5) Majoras Mask 3D: 50hrs I got my 3DS following a very difficult chapter of my life and needed an escape. I got it.
I can’t even explain all the nostalgia I have for this system. I can’t believe it’s all going away just like that. I will say that I remember how I got my first one. I found a 3ds somewhere back in 2013, no one claimed it and I cleaned it up. Mario and Luigi Dream Team was my first game and Omega Ruby had the most nostalgia for me. Rest in Greatness 3ds.😔
It's crazy to look back and see how we all had very similar experiences with the 3DS. I also got mine when I was going to College. I absolutely loved carrying it in my backpack and getting multiple Street Passes throughout the day. Back then my time was split between going to class and my part time job but then being able to get together with my friends at the end of the night to play MH3U was great! The 3DS will always be in my top favorite consoles of all time. Thank you for making this nostalgia filled video and for sharing your experiences. Keep up the great work!
I remember getting the 3DS on Christmas 2011, and got Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land with it. Still 2 of my favourite games ever. I love this system.
June 18th 2013 I got a 3ds xl for my birthday and I turned 10. I ended up choosing ocarina of time 3d and it was the first time I ever truly played zelda and I just turned 18 rn and have the majority of zelda games and it's my favorite franchise ever
Loved the video! Also shoutout to Zion for saying what was on my mind for the 25 min leadup- freaking MII PLAZA was a BANGER when the 3DS was released! I was at university, and just carrying my 3ds around to classes maxed out my visitors. I'm not afraid to admit I bought into some of the mini games, favs being the war one and gardening. Similarly, I will never forget just sitting at Gen Con and the flood of 3ds green/blue light pings of other nearby 3ds's. Good times
