Fishing for large bull sharks in NSW Rivers We catch, tag and release large bull sharks from NSW rivers to assist researchers to learn more about the movement and behaviors of large bull sharks,
Hi. No not illegal to kill them, but I catch these sharks for research. I take samples and tag them to hopefully find out more information about them. Thanks
Hi there, I was a sea scout at middle harbour on Sydney harbour. I was told never to swim whilst manning a number of sea scout craft as there were too many aggressive bull sharks in the waters. You would not get me in or on the waters in Sydney harbour unless I was on a minimum 3 metre by 2 metre wide water craft. So practice and experience rebuffs scientists' theories of minimal shark attack risks as there are two many sharks in the harbour. Way too risky for a swim except in shark protected pools by local councils. Colonial New South Wales records display a number of fatal and non-fatal shark attacks in Sydney harbour. Check Mitchell Library records. The State Government needs to put up signs warning people of the risks. Kind Regards Chris Eriksson
Hello: we insert a Fisheries tag into the shark and provide the tag number and details of the shark including: date/time, where caught, length of shark, condition on release etc etc. If someone else catches the shark, there a phone number for them to ring and provide their info, date/time, where caught etc etc. that way Fisheries can gather info on the shark as to how far it has swam, growth rate etc etc.
that day i was land based shark fishing in Malaysia and a lady approached me and said did you know that this is illegal? i ignored her and she called the cops, luckily it was legal to fish for shark but not kikl the shark
The bulls are the most aggressive shark bar none, but it is just part of nature and it's a beautiful, very successful hunter, I love sharks, I've lived next to the ocean and in it, I'm glad I never had interactions with Mr Bill, I say that out of real respect, their great, but their absolute killers, if it clamps down on you, your losing whatever he's biting, and if your alone in the water, pray for help, cause your gonna need it.
Have you guys ever kept and eaten a Bull shark? I’ve hooked onto quite a few in my boat, but had no way to bring them on board. I’ve eaten Thresher shark, which is delicious. I’ve always been curious about Bulls though.
Hello mate: No we are only catch and release. The Bull Sharks we are catching are mostly pregnant females that are coming into the rivers to give birth. Once they are bought to shore, we tag and sample them and provide these samples to Marine Biologists for research. Take care.
@@Chopper650 how do you judge that? based on numbers? If a shark is hungry and a human is in the water during feeding time. If a human is hungry for a shark and it is near the hook. Seems about even to me.
Hi: yes Bull Sharks have always been able to swim in salt and fresh water. They excrete salt from their bodies to tolerate the fresh water. The large female Bull Sharks travel up the rivers to give birth to their young to protect them from other sharks.
Nice catch. Don't particularly agree with your spot though. To much poor handling to release. Pontoon or boat. You know they can knock themselves around on rocks. Still. Like your work.👍
Not here in South Africa. The vast majority of fishermen here are environmentally savvy, so 99% of sharks are released. I certainly don't and won't keep one. The same applies to rays, sandsharks and skates. Not sure about Aus though, but I would imagine they'd be really catch and release focused. In the end, we have to ensure the future of our sport.
I frequently swim with sharks in that river,, well done on the realease! Altough ive lost my right leg to a bull they are harmless and beautiful creatures 🥰
What Starlo means is he lost his leg to a bull because it's their territory and you can be like many @$$holes and gut the waters of all these sharks or you can accept that we share these waters and you can't blame them for mistaking us for food.
Sir: I would like to disagree. Reckless is making comments on Social Media on topics you know nothing about. 😉 Check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RdkNiJHeo3k.html Now that’s reckless 😂😂👍👍 Enjoy and thanks for your comments.
Hi Abby. We take a fin snip from the shark and other sample for Marine Biological research. From these fin snips they can tell their DNA and other very important research details. We also take swabs from various areas of the shark to support research The sharks are treated with the highest level of respect and we given them time to recover and allow them to swim off strong
So grandad how did you lose your leg, well I caught a huge shark and decided to get in the water to start pulling and pushing it about and it got a bite fed up of being manhandled and left with a big hook in my mouth after he cut the wire trace with the bolt cutters, true storey son
Shark wrangling legend 👀 Did you tag the shark? I'm so confused. I was feeling so sad for the shark, then suddenly cheering for everyone including the shark 😂
Hi: I catch sharks for research, hence the tagging and sampling of the sharks. Bull sharks have been swimming into this river for thousands of years and killing one shark will not make the river any safer for swimmers. There has only ever been two attacks in this river with the last being in 1919. You have more chance making a fool of yourself with you un-educated comments than you do getting bitten by a shark. Thank you
@@treefrog123a a shark is a shark. They eat meat. How many people got ate and Noone ever knew? I'm sure there are missing persons that was a sharks dinner. Some people are so uneducated.
Hi @user-wi9vw4yb9o I would be more than happy to provide with with information to allow you to learn about shark. Please feel free to ask any question. Three pieces of information that you might be interested in * Bull Sharks can survive in freshwater and they are (to my knowledge) the only shark that can. * The river system in this video is actually salt water (where we fish). * I’m not that smart to edit fakeness into videos 😂👍 Enjoy the day
