Thanks Mario for reviewing the gun. You remember my request haha. Really appreciate it and now it makes sense why lots painters not using it for clearcoat. But i think I'll get it for sealer and some solid basecoat due to ease of cleaning.

Ntonytay I got you it’s not a bad gun to have

I tried out this similar gun about 5 years ago, it was a nightmare for me to use, issues with leaks. I do prefer my Anest Iwata guns, they work great for me.

Hi Mario. I see that you don't really like the Finish Clear. But what would be your first choice of budget clear

So what gun would you recommend for metallic and large panels? Medium priced? No price limit? TIA

Hi Teacher Mario😁a very interesting review I've done some research on this gun as I was looking to get one about a year ago and came to pretty much the same conclusions that you did. I don't know why 3M released this as a HVLP as it limits the amount of people that could use it due to it's high CFM rating, they have released the fine atomisation head for clear but for some reason the CFM is still the same, even though I now have bigger compressor I still wouldn't get one as it's not the best gun for metallics and there are far better guns for clear which I now own. I suppose if you work in a high production shop the 3M gun would be ideal with it's fast clean and tip change ability🙏🙏👍John UK.

Hi John, thanks for the comment. We are both in agreement, this gun is more suited for high production body shop guys.

Why exactly didn’t you like about the Finish One Clear coat? I looked on line and couldn’t find what the exact “Solids “ content is for this clear coat? Price point isn’t everything with clear, longevity and solids ( to me) is more important! Great video!

So there’s two different versions of this clear F720 and the F710 both high solids. The 10 is designed for small repairs 1 to 2 panels. And the 20 is for an overall paint job. I was actually ignorant to this info however none of these clear coat flows good for me it’s always a little dry and peely and when you try to get it to cover with complete gloss i always get solvent pop so now I have to work harder. even when reduced 10 to 15 percent. And no heat. The longevity is definitely not 3 to 5 years in Florida, and it smells awful. So that’s my pick on it. My opinion I don’t deem to know everything.also when I use cheap clear I always go 3 coats instead of 2.

Hey Mario, with the paint left over in the cup, do you throw that away or seal it up for next time?

Whats wrong with finish1 720? A painter friend of mine from a well known shop uses that clear and recommended for me to use at home.

As I said the clear is fine to use on smaller panels not for a full paint job. So yea it’s good to use at home.

U use the same gun but y the different tips. What's the difference in 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 my question is what does the 1 represent and what does the following number represent.?. Ty love ur class.
@mariopaintclass6091
@mariopaintclass6091 Год назад
As far as i know the difference does not represent measurements you can say it means 1.2 mm, but as far as I know they are numbers to let you know which size to use for different materials as different materials can be thicker or more thin. For example 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 are generally use for clear coat or base coat. And from 1.4 up you use those for thicker materials such as primer.

Ty u answered like I figured. Prior to my career switch from residential painting to autobody. The spray tips for conventional sprayers represents width of the fan. I was thinking the same for automotive. I get it now. Ty

it's the tip size in mm. Industry standard. 1.2mm for clear. 1.3mm for base/color. 1.4mm for sealer. 1.6/1.8mm for primer. 2.0mm for high build primer. But what really matters is the relationship between tip size and the viscosity of the fluid, which can be measured with a viscosity flow cup like #2 Ford or Zahn No.1,No.2,No.3, or No.4. You can adjust the tip size to match the viscosity or you can reduce the fluid to work with the tip size you have, what works best really depends on a lot of other factors, but the main thing is don't guess, measure. Always know what your viscosity is and that it's within the suitable range for the tip size or you will get orange peeling or dusting. (google: learn to use viscosity flow cup)
