The clicking sound is the air flappers. The flappers can be set to continue to flap during the wind down so that the hi-lo sound will continue during the wind down. The flapper cut-off time delay is adjustable to suit the user.
The damper control (sometimes called flappers) has an adjustable time delay that is independent of the siren motor timer. The damper control timer can be set to continue oscillations after the siren motor is de-energized, and is winding down. This department has their damper control timer set to stop oscillations about half way during the coast down. It could be set to stop at any point during the wind down. It's a matter of preference.
The 3T22 has solenoids to make for additional signals. The 2t22 does not have this solenoid and thus can produce these tones. These signals include hi-low, and Pulse, and can be used in combination with alert for a steady tone, or attack for a wailing.
The 3T22 produces 3 Tones: Alert, Attack, and Hi Lo. The 2T22 Produces 2: Alert and Attack. As a result, om;y the 3T22 has Solenoids to produce a Hi Lo sound.
a 2T22 is this siren but can only do attack which is a steady up and down sound and alert which is one pitch and this siren in the video is a 3T22 which can do attack, alert and a 3rd signal which you can hear in the video which is a fire signal that is the alert signal but solenoids block the intakes creating a Hi Lo signal *breath*........
@Surgethearcticfox Other than that they look the same, the 3t22 is capable of alternate steady and alternate wail. I hope this answers your question ;)
Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to the firemen. The sound might also be little distorted because I was in a vacant lot between two buildings, so you may be hearing some echo. Also my video camera sound pickup capablities may have been a little overwhelmed by the extreme volume of the siren. Maybe I try it again sometime with a better camera and sound system.
@mikey125612 Exactly, the lower damper is stuck open so it makes a sound like WEEH WEEH WEEH WEEH WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO instead of WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO
@Surgethearcticfox Well (im not really and expert) but the difference in the 3t22 can do hi-lo signal using a damper while the 2t22 doesn't have a damper so cannot do that signal.
3T22's are like the same as 2T22's but the 2T22 does not have the 2 solenoids. D: also it can actually make 4 things (talking about the 3t22) it can do alert it can do attack it does hi lo and it does hi lo WAIL.
My God! Now there's some memories there! The next town over has one of those sirens and they still use it! Sounds just like Ft. Edward. Also sounds a little like the one in Ft. Johnson which was the department I belonged to. Do you think you could burn me a copy of this because I could use it for my structure fire scene on the model train layout at my model train club.:)
@deeredad the difference between a 2t22 and a 3t22 is that a 3t22 can do hi low as a 2t22 cannot a 3t22 has selinoids and a 2t22 dont look at the name.....3t means 3 Tone and 22 means 22 horns...22 ports so its 3T22 and 2 Tone 22 2T22 its actually simple lol
what is the difference between a model 5 and a model 7??? ( i know it has nothing to do with this video but nobody has told me on any other... :( i saw a lot of friendly ppl here so i thought i would ask...)
