Damon suspects it, but has abandonment issues that sneak up on him and then he doubts how Elena feels. He does know how he feels, but Elena is in major denial. So everybody including their mom know except for Elena.
It's the kind of scene that truly makes sense afterwards, when you come back to it. She basically admitted here that even though she loves Stefan, it's partly for the wrong reasons. And Damon ? She can't explain it.. Love can't be explained. Now maybe if she hadn't been so slow she wouldn't have hurt them that much. =/ (I still love her though).
It's not her fault, truly. She told Stefan she's not even sure she knows what love is. Once she fell in love with Damon, she knew. That's why it terrified her.
@@singhisking768 I think she was just in denial throughout S3. It’s why she’s crying on the phone with Damon when she chooses Stephen, in contrast to when she finally chooses Damon in S4. She couldn’t admit she’d fallen for him when she was still human because it scared her. Becoming a vampire not only made her see things from Damon’s perspective (aka the bloodlust), her feelings were heightened. She couldn’t hide it anymore.

Stefan was Elena's 'security blanket' at a time when she needed him emotionally. She'll always love him for that. But Damon, he provides the excitement, danger, fun, passion and everything else that she needs. He's also been there for her too and helped her to grow. She loves them both for different reasons, but because she loves them both, she scared to admit it.

Mariam Elgomos Stefan was safe and helped her through a bad part of her life made her feel happy again for a while she’ll always love him for that I look at it like Stefan was the spark in the match and Damon was the fire that kept it burning Stefan revived her life and Damon made her want to keep living he was her passion her excitement her adventure a presence and love that consumed her, literally she couldn’t love without him her love gave him his humanity his love made her feel truly Alive and free that’s the difference. They were both epic loves and although her love for Damon is ultimately stronger and he’s her soulmate both Stefan and Damon’s love were important to bringing her back from where she was at the time of her parents death
Matt was her humanity. Her first relationship, when she was innocent and young. Stefan was her first love. Safe and real. Damon was the real thing. Her adult love. Passionate and exhilirating.
What Elena said gave to understand that she never was really in love with Stefan, she only felt safe with him because he would never die and that Damon is her true love!

true, but her love with damon wasn't just consuming and passionate, but she also felt safe around him, because he was the one consistently there for her. she felt both factors around damon. that's why her and damon's relationship ended up being more everlasting.

Those asking why she didn't chose Damon even after this scene where she kinda admits she is in love with Damon for love and loves Stefan out of gratitude and all,,,,it's because she knew it was wrong & she probably didn't want to hurt Stefan like that listen to the words very well "Damon just kinda of snuck up on me, no matter what I Do I can't shake him" meaning she has tried & still trying to shake her love for Damon off, trying and failing. Meaning she was trying to do what seemed to be the right thing despite her feelings because she knew her love for Damon was wrong & has always said so (eg she said to Damon you can't kiss me, it's wrong, then when she was blocking her memories of Damon, she still didn't want to accept she was in love with Damon when she was still with Stefan), that should also explain why she tells Damon maybe if we met first,,,if she didn't badly want to chose Damon she wouldn't have that wishful thinking (wishing that they had met first would make choosing him a right choice). You need to look for these small details to enjoy TVD. Elena chose Stefan but her heart had already chosen Damon.
Elena didn't want to lose Stefan's friendship. What he did in 4x10 is every bit what she feared. He asked Rebekah to erase every memory they ever shared. That's what you call losing a friend. They show this again when he actually has his memories taken from him by the witch. She loses her friend. That's what she meant when she said in choosing one, she'd be losing the other. She knew Stefan was in love with her, and he wouldn't be able to handle it. He has to move on before he can be her friend.
Elena...you just pretty much admitted YOU. ARE. IN. LOVE with Damon ;-) it's pretty funny how you try everything in your power to try to avoid it too. Here's the thing though...you fell in love with Stefan because of what YOU THOUGHT HE WAS, but you fell in love with Damon despite everything horrible he did and you COULDN'T HELP IT and you know him better! What relationship is real now?
Another reason why Delena should be endgame: Elena found love in Stefan and depended in on him not dying on her like her parents, whereas she was able to fall in love with Damon herself.
3x22 is a repeat of history. That’s why they’re flashing back to show two drownings in one. For the same reason Elena didn’t break up with Matt until after her parents died, she didn’t break up with Stefan until after she died. But she was going to break up with him, and Matt knew it. They didn’t show Elena breaking up with Matt... when and how she did it. Because if they did, the audience would’ve predicted Stelena’s breakup in season 4. "Stefan…Forget it. We can talk later." This is her attempt to break up with him, but she decides to wait. "Just in case there is no later." And he kisses her when she truly doesn't want him to. Because she will be breaking up with him.
Exactly, like honestly when TVD first started I liked stelena, but they got together so fast - its like what is there to look forward to? But I just fell IN LOVE with DE halfway through season 1. Now, I'm rooting fir them to be endgame so hard :)

I remember in episode 4 of this season caroline told elena that damon got under her skin and elena was denying it and now here it is the proof that damon really did get under her skin
3 years of waiting and FINALLY she admit that she's inlove with Damon. Yaay. And I don't understand Stelena fans, guys,Stelena was almost for three seasons. It's Delena time now. Because we got almost nothing in these three years.
so she falls in love with stefan while only knowing a portion of his life because she wanted someone who would never stop loving her cause he would always be alive. none of that came to mind with damon. she just loved him for him, knowing everything about him. she loved damon not his eternal life. she did not love him because his life would ensure she always had some one. and THAT is humanity.
Matt in the earlier seasons was actually nice. Later he turned into the most pointless D-bag in the history of television (exception being the chair he sat in)
Elena was in love with Damon in season three, and Stefan knew it. In 3x2, Damon forced her to admit how she felt for the sake of it. He wanted her to remember how she felt while Stefan was gone. Can't deny feelings once they're said out loud, which was the point. Elena is written in denial more often than not. Her admission came back around to bite in 3x18, when she and Stefan argued about whether or not they should save Damon. She wanted to save Damon. That's when Stefan saw it, and why he spoke to her at the end of the episode. That's also why they cut that scene to a fake escape with Elena. Because she wanted to save him. Stefan knew, but he hoped he was wrong in what he saw. It's all in 3x2 and 3x18. There's a lot more in season three I can comment on. It's all Delena.
I never really liked Matt in the beginning, but as he grew and grew I began to see him differently and it was about this point I really liked him, and now...say what you will about his f***ed family he's not short on courage.

Ironic.. Elena can never have a talk like this with her Girlfriends. Caroline tried, sort of, even though it sounded more like she was annoyed that Elena wont admit it. Which made it a lot easier for Elena to deny everything. With Bonnie, she always seemed "embarassed" to talk about her feelings for Damon. Don't know whats going on there. im surprised they both knew she loved him even before the motel scene! the fact that people thought 3x22 her 'choosing stefan' meant anything at all just chose to forget the season-long buildup before that.
This conversation needs to be combined with their argument in 3x19. "It's what you do, Damon." Because no matter what she DOES, she can't shake him. She needs Damon to DO something that lessens her love for him. If he does, she thinks she could shake him. S5 is an overlay of S3. Katherine taking over Elena's body is an overlay of her meeting with Esther. That's why she's alone with Katherine when it happens. They even give Stefan a motel scene overlay, which shows a mighty difference. Unlike Stefan, Elena isn't strong enough to stop kissing Damon because he consumes her. Jeremy had to interrupt. They overlay the summer, 3x5, 3x14, 3x19, and Elena's transition to vampire. Their 3x5 overlay shows why Elena started training with Alaric. You see this when Katherine pushes Damon to feed on her with the ripper virus. Klaus had to stop Stefan before he ripped her head off. Should I ever find someone good at doing videos, and I had them show all the overlays, I think Stelena shippers would be pretty upset at everything they show in S5 lol.
@@DDT-ei7bh damn you really should do it! very true everyone always mentions that stefan 'resisting klaus compulsion' scene as meaning stefan loves her more, but literally damon resisted feeding on 'elena' even though 'she' offered it to him, stefan had only pushed some obstacles in his way on pursuing her. when she goes against damon (like meeting esther) she is compared with katherine, when she goes against stefan she is actually less like kat because kat is a simp for stefan. it is shown that elena is not like katherine because she chose damon, and saw him fully.
@@nobodysXghost That's why I love 2x22. They showed what werewolf venom does to vampires through Rose in S2. Damon got bit by Tyler and was suffering. All the while he's dying... that moment he bites Elena is the only time he feeds on her, and he stops himself when he realizes he's suffering hallucinations. Rose devoured their blood bag supply, then went on a stroll to feed on some humans. They get seriously hungry while they're suffering the venom. Damon actually resists it because he's in love with Elena. I don't know how many people Rose fed on to the point of killing, but it was enough. Damon is no doubt starving, and he doesn't even feed on Jeremy.
this is a great scene with Elena and Matt...to see the point of view of someone looking at it (the love triangle) from the outside...and how Matt says "once you fall in love with someone I don't know if you can ever shake them"...reveals a lot, that she loves Stefan and Damon, and that Matt still loves her...
Okay, if you're saying that Damon isn't himself around Elena & that he lost his bad boy edge, then I think you do not understand who Damon Salvatore REALLY is. If you see how he was in 1864 you see he was a really nice guy & all the things he went through & all the PAIN he was in made him PRETEND to be that monster he was in season one. Elena saw the man behind the mask, which is what he really wanted all along -someone to care. I love Damon in every form & thats why I will always ship Delena
In hindsight, this scene represents the beginning of the end of Stephen & Elena’s relationship. When she admits she initially fell in love with Stephen because he could never die, and also because she felt safe, etc. That represents her trauma from her parent’s accident. That’s why, after her biggest fear happens and Matt drives off the bridge, she’s able to finally face that fear and metaphorically & literally die with her parents, canceling out her survivors guilt. After her transition, ironically she’s able to come alive again. Stephen, who struggles with being a vampire, wanted to fix her because he loved that she was human & and keeping her safe, etc. Whereas Damon (although against her transition) didn’t really care if she was human or vampire. He loved her regardless.
Awwwww I have no words for how much I love Matt/Elena. When he said "practically invisible" and he looked her at like that. Love them. And of course, DELENA! She didn't deny that she loves him! She's probably weirded out right now because she's never allowed herself to admit it, but she needs to confront it soon! =D Think we might get an "I love you" from Elena to Damon soon?
Complete implication that she was falling in love with Damon. All of S3 she may have still been in love with Stefan, but she was starting to fall for Damon as well.
i love matt. he's stable and normal, but really not. bcz he has this wild and heroic side of him that could be played really strongly if he ever became a vampire. plus, he looks really good and fit and hot
that realization flashing across her face of "love him? yes! yes I do" after what matt says is key! think about it! in Paul Wesleys interview hes quoted as saying "as the season continues we'll see Damon and Elena on a collision course for each other". that finally realization was all i needed to let me know the writers really are setting this up for delena endgame this season :D
I really like watching Elena grow up in little self-realization scenes like this (and Matt is the best friend ever!). All the love we find in our lives is important, but once you find that one person "you can't shake", that's truly special. So I hope Elena's brave and lets herself love him this season, because love like that is worth it! Well done writers, *hats off*. I
Elena fell in love with Stefan right away in the first season because she felt safe around him, with him Elena smiled again, turned back into a normal girl, despite her parents' death ... Elena needed a friendly shoulder, but she fell in love, because with Stefan she felt happy, do not want to be alone ... but Stefan is just a friend to Elena, that turned friendship colored haha just this, as well as Matt, because love same she feels for Damon! I get Stefan when not driven by bloodlust or with his humanity off or both is usually the safer choice then Damon but it is not like Damon is all bad note when both Stefans And Damons humanity switches were off Stefan showed to be the worst of the two
Did you miss when he told the poor girl that all he wanted was to be human? Or when he stopped himself from killing Andie and compelled her to leave...or how he treated Rose..when she was crying and being burned by the sun he picked her up and carried her to safety without even knowing her ! that is who he is !!! Bonnie: DAMON is the one who came up with the plot to fool Klaus so Bonnie wouldn't die at the dance. JEREMY: is the one who he looks out for now and compelled to have a great life and
I love how she has everyone she needs even though she lost all her family I’m glad Stefan is happy for her and Matt is always going to be there for her it’s so sweet how they all can depend on each other
I just need to point something out, in this scene elena was explaining to Matt why she didn't let go of stefan when she knew he was a vampire, she felt safe and relieved that this person won't ever die and leave her..she didnt stay she never loved him.. BUT at the same time,she didn't correct Matt when he said "once you fall in love ...." because at that moment we can all see what she was thinking, like "omg this might be it, I might actually be in love with him" (CONT)-
Not all deaths require a heart to stop beating. In the initial accident, three people died in the car that night. Stefan was the brother that helped Elena move on from the death of her parents. Damon was the brother that halped Elena move on from the death of herself. That's why the cheerleader flashbacks hit in 3x22, and she wakes with Damon's blood in her system. Damon pushed Elena to let go of the girl he met in the road... the girl she was when she had parents. There were three bridge scenes in 3x11 as they foreshadowed what was to come. The first bridge scene was Stefan threatening Elena. The second bridge scene was Damon picking up Elena. The third bridge scene was Matt throwing flowers for Elena. Damon's bridge scene is missing for a reason. He defined her just as Katherine defined him. That's why they get a bridge scene in 4x6. Why she takes her daylight ring off and Damon is the one that puts it back on. She refused to let go of the girl after 3x11, so she was forced to let go of the girl in 3x22. Because a girl that falls in love with a vampire... is a vampire. Damon is her death and her life, the problem and the solution. When she told Matt that Damon consumes her, it was time for her to become a vampire.
