I did a 2.88 to 3.58 in my ND2 that sees a lot of 65-75 mph speed limit highway. Mpg went from 33.4 to 34 so far lol. Might still be climbing. I find it so interesting that the actual acceleration numbers aren't a whole lot different (like quarter mile time/trap speed) but the car feels like it pulls harder.

Any reason you went for transmission swap rather than a rear gear swap?
@silentvalue
@silentvalue Год назад
@@Addison0526 It was actually less expensive than doing a set of 4.3's or 4.44's back in.....2010. I also got the carbon synchros and better 6th gear highway rpm for mpg. Since I was the 3rd owner and the car had 100k miles at the time, I wanted to go with the updated oem clutch disc that had less clutch buzz. I only paid once for labor to have it put in and then sold my ap1 transmission too locally. 2nd through 5th was 1-2% shorter and 6th was 1 % taller based on the secondary reduction gears. I figure the ap2 trans with the stock 4.10's made it almost like doing a set of 4.3's in comparison on how it drove.

@@0163844098 Not complicated, 10 speeds are simple in design, just BULKY AF, the issue would be in packaging. Some trucks even have a "reduction box" that splits all the gears into 2 separate ratios, like a 2 speed transmission for the transmission itself, if you will.

I've seen a bunch of renderings of them online and they look amazing, plus the added ground clearance will be helpful during Michigan winters, especially with all of the potholes. I previously owned a 1998 BMW 318ti and the gearing was very short and I still averaged 30+ MPG. Keep us posted. NGL the stock DIF is what had me on the fence on these, That and a BBK being relatively necessary. Had me looking towards WRX with a BBK or a GTI for the amenities aspect. Still largely considering a brz/86 for that platform/chassis. Though a wrx, corolla, r line gti sounds nice. Just seems more costly and a tradeoff of weigh for power/awd. That ultimately gets determined by the low volume sale/aspect that the 86/brz platform entails with the inherent/future value aspect from how rare they are on a yearly/sale basis. A 4.3 dif, bbk and a few suspension tunes or throttle response/pedal tune and this platform seems to be a lot more reliable/hard ran and cost effective compared to something with awd/turbos. Just seems like the 4.1 was an "implementation/by product" of them thinking it would mitigate some of the EPA aspects from them adding the 2.4 stroker vs the previous generation. More power/torque curve access...and yet a 4.1 dif definitely had me on the fence with the "marketing" aspect or what this car brought to the table out of the box vs something more or less to be considered TRULY ideal or a more or less IDEAL cost effective DRIVERS car. Track/life/revs can obviously harm the re-sale value of this car but to someone as their weekend/for fun secondary option that will see lower milage/abuse these cars will SURELY appreciate in value esp the 6 spd/limited trim variants. 12:34 thats definitely sold me on the 4.3 swap...its not just about the power/torque figures but that engine breaking potential adds to the drivability immensely.

VF Tuners, EcuTek and open flash have already cracked the ECU on this car and are working on tunes for these for the public. We’re only a few months out from tuning options, finally lol

That's good to hear, finally!

We’re also the same amount of time out before they capitulate to the EPA and turn off all the “fun” parameters for tuning these new cars. We’ll see… sigh

Hmmm...I just noticed that the Subie doesn't have the current gear selection indicator like the Toyota does

Yeah I turned that off, it’s a bossy little screen, always telling me what gear to change into!

Is an additional engine oil cooler necessary for these cars?

If you do a lot of track driving it’s a good idea 👍 I only track mine ~2-3x/year so just keep an eye on temps.

Camber change is an adjustment or using camber plates?

Eccentric camber bolts

Should you tune just for this modification? I would think to maximize the shorter gearing it makes sense?

Great video! It makes me annoyed that Subaru and Toyota undid the change to the 4.3 diff.

I've heard some reviewers say that the GR86's engine is tweaked slightly differently than the BRZ's? Is this true ? Any thoughts on that? Once again, love the content.

The throttle mapping is obviously very different with the GR86 being a fair bit more aggressive. But I seriously doubt that the actually engine mapping is any different. Aggressive throttle maps can certainly give the illusion of more pep though.

Yeah I'm all in to swap out the 4:10 to 4:30. Got one free shipping no tax $650 from FL to WA -not bad! Riding solo, tall but not overweight at 180, no cargo but a full size spare behind the passenger seat, 5K miles driven, the lower gearing likely should have been from factory and for that matter, they should have been 16 and 17 wheels offered and not 18" ones cuz they're a really poor option for fun driving. (IMO)

I think that's the move, especially with how bad the roads have gotten here. Driving TO the rallycross has gotten rougher than driving IN the rallycross lol.
