Let's unbox, set up, and cut some stones (agates & porphyry). I am using, for the first time, a 4” or 5” lapidary trim saw from Hi-Tech Diamond and during this unboxing, setting up, and cutting rocks video, we are going to test it out and I give my honest opinion on what I think of it. Please let me know if you have any saw related questions in the comment section! Thanks for watching!

**When using any lapidarhy saw, be sure to wear eye protection, ear protection, and lung protection. Read your safety manual and understand how to use your saw. DO NOT WEAR loose gloves that could get caught between the saw and well slot. Do not force your stone through the grinding process, take it nice and easy and be patient. Happy cutting :)

Is there a "twelve step" program for people with our affliction? I first admitted my rock issue over 30 yrs ago and no longer worry there is something really "off" regarding my obsession. I just found you last night and must ask you if anyone has admitted that your site alone elevated rockhounding to an all new level. I know the obsession drives us to put our bodies through some nasty elements and time is of no concern while hunting so I must THANK YOU for sharing your endless knowledge. I am gifted or cursed by living one mile from Lake Michigan on the Wi/Il state line. I admit to screening every bag of gravel purchased over the years. My first memory of warning signs was when I was 8 and visited family in Sheboygan, the mile long trek to the shoreline did not stop me from carrying more than my body weight back. Dad was NOT happy. My husband supports me and has built some amazing display cases for my "gravel gems". Little does he know that WE ARE taking a field trip once it stops snowing. Thank you again!

I miss your squeals of delight the first time you look at the inside of an agate. Many people store small geodes after they’ve been cut open in a used egg carton. That may help you store them until you polish them. Rubber bands are another option to keep the halves together. The little saw is amazing. How nice to limit how much beautiful rock is cut away. I loved the demonstration!

I have this saw at home, works great for tight working quarters. The splash guard I mainly use to clear the base of any debris instead of using it to block any spray, hah. The arbor hole in the base is the weak spot for me, water likes to get in there and drip through the bottom with heavy use.

Please do not add music to any demo, DIY, tour, cooking, or animal video. It hurts the ears and is insanely irritating to viewers. You see this video from creator side, try being a viewer. You have to constantly turn volume on or off or up or down to prevent losing your hearing from that consistent droning noise in background. I would much rather hear the natural high whine of a saw than a low drone of music noise. Never, ever add music to any demo video, please! It absolutely ruins content. Ok, having vented my hatred of music noise, let me say that this is a great video. Beautiful demonstrated, those are some nice stones! I worry about your hand being so close to the spinning blade though. This is one nice machine. This size 5" runs $349 on Amazon. Definitely the best one on the market. Love the compact size and lack of mess. Very nice. I bet I could cut some glass with that too.
