My irrational fear as a child is that there would be a shark in the deep end of the swimming pool, then I would get bitten and taken to hospital but I wake up halfway through surgery and the shark would be performing the operation on me
The ability 'Mixed signals' sounds like it could be the NAME of a real pokemon ability, but to have a different effect, my thought being; when a status move is used it randomly gives ANY status ailment. So for example, a psychic type mon with this ability could use thunder wave, but it could instead burn, poison, etc the target
Suseam also works with the inherent creepiness of certain popups and stuff, I know seeing "Suseam does not want to battle" pop up ingame would freak me out as a kid.
Feels like a creepypasta. Someone finding an old Pokémon game or buying some kind of off brand Pokémon game from a yard sale, playing it and then the message appears. Maybe it's in battle, where you see the back sprite of your Pokémon and it turns around to face you.. "Suseam does NOT want to battle."
Fugg that, it would scare the bejesus outta my grown ass self. I'd turn the game off and be like "understandable. We'll load from last save file suzeam."
Suzeam’s entire gimmick is what made the AI professors so creepy. The AI professors are legitimately caring, but they are basically possessed by the drive of Arven’s remaining dead parent to battle with Paradox Pokémon and then you see the fact that the AI Professor does not want to battle. God, is that a very effective line to bring out.
Hearing Suzeam's story makes me wonder if there is split evolution for the people who respect the Pokemon's wishes and help it overcome it's hesitance to battle
Maybe it would be more of an esper style pokemon with high SpAtk unlike the other two who are mainly Physical (considering they're just distorted humans robbed of their will/intelligence, it makes sense they wouldn't have any psychic aptitude and just use brute force).
@@pale_raven_arts5930 I find the second evolution cute. Yes it's a mutilated Suzeam as well but it still loves it's trainer and wants to be a good chimera
I think, ideally, Suzeam would just be free to choose what they are interested in. The boy forced it to battle and made the overly obedient Effijack. The girl had it behave as a pet, and it would become the more animalistic Chimerionett. Suzeam just wants to be recognized as more than a pet or a tool for battle. It's not a hesitance to battle. It's the knowledge that this is something beneath them, with them being the closest Pokemon relative to humans. We don't personally take part in the battle, and neither should they.
I both adore and despise how Suzeam's evolutions are both horrible fates. The idea of having to choose whether your best friend loses their free will or becomes what's essential just a dog is terrifying in its own right, but the designs really just elevate everything to a whole other level. Effijack and Chimerionett both look enough like Suzeam to show that there’s no doubt that you're looking at your little buddy but mangled enough that you know the damage has been done. Your friend is gone, with a husk of who they once were doing everything they can to please you
@@Cerbereen I think it is interesting and also infuriating in some capacity. Like why can’t it have a normalish friendship evolution that is commonly owned by regular people. Hell, have an evolution that specifically triggers if it has an everstone and enough friendship. Which is based off the fact that Suzeam are intelligent and definitely know about Effijacks and Chimeraionett and see the act of giving them an everstone to prevent to have those terrible fates a strong token of friendship. Straight up anime plot right there that would definitely be used to reveal it to people for the first time. Also here’s the thing plenty of Pokémon are used for non combat stuff. Like the Conkeldurr line is straight up construction workers.
Suzeam's story is heartbreaking but imagine being that little girl. Her best friend is turned into a battle machine and then her parent's toss a "replacement goldfish" at her who suffers a mental breakdown/identity crisis(for lack of a more accurate word) weeks/months later. Poor girl would be scared of mons the rest of her life.
She could be the main villain. In a hypothetical Pokémon game. Have her being like the heiress to the family fortune after her poor brother passes while traveling and her parents passing as well shortly after and mentally after losing everyone she loved breaks and makes it her life goal to bring an end to Pokémon training kinda like a team plasma goal but she uses creepy Pokémon.
You know that Suzeam would still have people doing "Suzeam Only" challenges where she just doesn't listen, uses moves she learned along the way, sometimes just does nothing
I mean, in a Game context, the fact that You have something SPECIFICALLY Made to not fight, in a creature combat Game, it just ASKS for Challenge runs. Playerbase lorewise would find that incredibly cruel, but gameplay wise looks like such a tedious task that someone WILL do it and try and complete it
Effijack is easily the scariest design here for me, like knowing what it used to be and what it took to evolve into this gives me that chilling feeling of "what on earth did you DO to Suzeam!?"
When I initially read the Ability's name, I thought it might be something like: on turn 1 you are informed that the Pokemon does not want to battle and it takes no action -- but after that, it will fight normally, albeit its moveset is almost exclusively support moves (Safeguard, etc.). This could even play into its evolution method(s) somehow...
Suzeam, Effijack, and Chimerionette are the scariest on an emotional, psychological level, but I've realised the mere thought of pointy legs going "tiki-tiki-tiki" over the ground makes my skin crawl, so that's great too
Disguise would be a perfect ability for Unravenge. Imagine it enters the battle looking like a normal substitute doll and after getting hit the doll tears and the tendrils break out of it
Suzeam´s "Suzeam does not want to battle" sounds pretty scary if this was the line she says herself. Just imagine her trying to reason with you, shiver and cry, if you were forcing her to fight. And eventually tries to fight you in her moment of desperation, because you are the one who is causing her fear and pain.
If Suzeam's vocal sounds resembled a frightened child, that would be depressing and scary. Maybe Effijack's is a long sigh, the only bit of it left that can rebel.
It would make sense as an antifriendship evolution: If Below 50 Happiness (catch baseline 60, so you MUST mistreat it at least a couple times), goes to Effijack, otherwise to the chimera.
I don't know if this was intesional, but since no one mentioned it in the video, i'll say it here. I love how gaunteaters fur dragging makes it look like a human knee. Makes it look even more like a crawling human.
I actually saw the back half as a type of two headed pokemon (like giraffarig) to add on to the "where's this thing's real head" scary. If that makes sense
I feel like Suzeam and Effijack would have so much theories if they were official Pokémon in the way you guys purposed. And there would be creepy pastas, but they wouldn’t as scary as the actual story.
22:54 I hope that Effijack’s pokeball is actually the pokeball it was caught in. So you know if you use a premier ball to catch a Suzeam for color coordination when it evolves it wouldn’t show up as a regular pokeball when it evolves.
Agreed but I feel the need to point out how that some people would want to get an Effijack for every Pokéball and that’s really kinda depressing when you think about it.
@@thaumatomane I can’t help but find enjoyment at the thought of a Suzeam freaking out when caught in luxury ball. They would have likely heard of Effijack’s from other released Pokemon, at least in the anime. As a Suzeam’s colors don’t match with a luxury ball but Effijack’s does. The knowledge that trainer likely wants to breaks its will is something that would haunt their mind.
Thanks for having me Ron! This was such a refreshingly challenging prompt that really pushed me. It was great to be back on the channel and you all had such fantastic and spooky designs yet again. I'm glad people seem to be enjoying the narrative I've sewn for little Suzeam. Hope I didn't traumatise too many of you!
Your designs were amazing, your stories were inspired and superbly delivered, and the storytelling your provided with those abilities was genuinely impressive. I just subscribed to you and cannot wait to watch more of your content!
I love the design and concept, but please please please make a happy ending evolution for suzeme, or maybe a redemption evolution for effijack and chimerionett. My bleeding heart can't take cute cute innocent characters suffering like this.
I find that funny I have a very cursed idea of a fusion between either Effijack or Chimerionett with a Fossil or a Paradox inspired by a series on Reddit that might legit scare you or make you very sad: Project Crossil. Maybe it'll eventually make and show but for now... Its still an idea
I think gaunteater would be a funny pokemon to own, imagine instead of your cat getting 3 am zoomies it's instead your gaunteater poking one it's arms out from the crack in your bedroom door at 3 am, as it tries to scurry in for bedtime cuddles or something, you wake up and you see your big old pokemon whining to get in because it got scared by a sewaddle
I think it could to be fun to see a group of artists making Pokemon that are Missed Opportunies for established regions, it could be fun seeing what everyone thinks is a missed opportunity for any of the regions.
A King Arthur lion pokemon for Galar was a huge missed opportunity. The Tale of King Arthur is one of the few epics in mythology and yet... there's not a single reference to that entire story anywhere in the Galar dex. Like... bruh what is WRONG with Gamefreak?!
@@majoratwili7312 One of the mascot legendary pokemon of the games is a regal hero of old who wields a powerful mystical sword. If that isn’t King Arthur inspired I don’t know what is. Galar’s lore is pretty clearly inspired by heroic medieval legends like King Arthur and Saint George. Just because the main box legend isn’t named “Artholeo” and doesn’t have a signature move called “Excalibur Slash” doesn’t mean the inspiration isn’t there. There’s virtue in subtly when it comes to taking inspiration from something.
24:48 fun fact, the exception to this is diglett/dugtrio. They NEVER fall out of their pokeball, it has a unique animation showing it 'growing' from the ground.
You do not wanna hug a gianteater, they got a bad eyesiight, basically blind, and sharing a habitat with a jaguar made it really "triggerhappy". Those claws of an anteater are sharp enough to straight up rip through concrete, and they're known to use those exactly that way. And btw, If anteater t-poses in Front of you, that's the Last warning it gives, before starting to Swing them around. And about groupers, If I Recall correctly, they're rather friendly fish. But the hunting techniques described were correct. In fact, they tend to cooperate with mooray eels or octopodes to hunt more efectively, since they don't exactly fit where their hunting partners do.
Casual Geographic had taught me a lot about how many seemingly nonthreatening animals can easily make you become past tense. If it were possible though I would love to pet an anteater without being punished for it. They're already unique looking enough to feel like a real life pokemon compared to other animals
“Scary face” basically is an actual specific fear, automatonophobia. The fear of human features that are strange or off. Also great video! Bonny’s intro was sick! And all the mons were super good!
Chimerionett's story is so sad! Arguably even more sad than Effijack's - the fact that it gave up its sapience voluntarily because it felt it had no choice is even more bone-chilling than stuff like The Fly or Kafka's Metamorphosis
These are incredible. Effijack is the scariest one to me conceptually (and the design is incredible) while Gaunteater is scariest to me purely from the visuals of the design and imagining seeing it in the woods. But I truly love all of them, amazing work
I feel like Chimerianet is the creepier of the two. The concept of something tearing apart and remaking itself then surpressing it's humanity is worse. But Effijack is a close second. That line alone is insane.
Gaunteater is freaking me out because even besides the 3 scary warped internet creepypasta faces, the moppy hair and shaggy legs remind me of The Ring like it had just climbed out of a well and is slowly crawling toward you on its hands and knees. It doesn’t even give the sense of “is this thing going to get me?”, it’s more “HOW is this thing gonna get me? Will it slash me open, or will it pin me down and drain the soul out of me for sustenance and power?” Immaculate work
What makes Suffocage even more creepier is the fact that its a Normal Type, this thing looks like a ghost/bug type but of course a pretty good design nevertheless
Okay, something neat. Its so horrifying but its probably a ghost or bug so fighting back probably wont help... but IT'S nomal type. Fighting back is probably your best method.
@@ChristmasPterodactylbugs are strictly insects with a piercing mouthpart. Spiders aren't insects and can therefore not be considered a bug in any way. Not even all insects can be considered bugs, but bugs HAVE to be insects indeed
For Suzeam & Effijack, I can see a story ark in a game or anime where in order to protect their friend/trainer for a Effijack that’s attacking, Suzeam decides to willingly fight, either becoming the first Suzeam to fight without becoming a Effijack or causing a new split evolution. (Edit, after seeing Chimerionett, plot idea changing to a Suzean putting themselves in battle to try and calm the Chimerionett while protecting friends).
It was more the implicit "what the fuck?" moment when I read its ability, and then the evolutions went even further with it. That's some creepypasta stuff right there.
Honestly, when I saw the title I just started imagining a Pokémon that hunts Mimikyu, because of Mimikyu's dex entries where it says that seeing its true body literally makes someone die. I mean, what's scarier than something that completely violates our understanding of something? That hunts something that can cause death by glancing upon it?
Design-wise, I'd make such a creature a blind star-mole. They look horrific in the first place, and being blind, they don't "see" the Mimikyu they consume.
I love the idea of a trainer having a Tinvader and getting on top of it with like a mask and a robe and acting like a scary forest spirit for fun. Like your walking around and this super tall thing with eight legs, a long neck, and a small masked face charging at you in the woods would be terrifying.
Man, I loved working on the designs for this video and presenting them alongside you all! Thanks for having me on Ron, and thank you for the shout out! Have a happy, fun, and safe halloween y'all!!!! P.S. Loved all the editing and style treatments to up the spooky vibes for this one! -Bonny/Professor Bohdi/Dr. Broody/Friend or Ron, Jack, and Reoma/Man of the People
I think Suzeam, Effijack and Chimerionette are my absolute FAVORITE from this video. Tinvader was so cool too. I would probably play Pokemon if Suzeam existed. I loved every one of these. xD I have such a huge love for scary/horror themed creature designs.
35:10 This concept kind of reminds me of the Linkite and Chainite from the fangame Pokemon Uranium. The story behind it is different, but Linkite is essentially a pokemon that was abandoned in its pokeball and died there. Because it was abandoned it forgot its true shape and thus the pokemon appears as a substitute doll tethered to a pokeball by a chain. (it also acts as a mimic, like Voltorb does, looking like an overworld item but being a pokemon encounter) The evolution just goes completely mad with dark energy seeping out from everywhere. Substitute dolls are very interesting, they definitely have some really cool potential for ideas and theories.
Suzeam and its evolutions definitely could never be in a Pokémon game, but they feel thoroughly like something you’d see in a really good Pokémon creepypasta. They fit into the games’ lore in a way that makes you question whether you should be playing it. It’s similar to Parasect and Porygon-Z, but so much more horrifying. Very deconstruction-y and cool.
There could be a friendship evolution if you don’t battle with it, where you would be relieved of the fear of seeing your friend turning into a monster.
@@evilfaulmw6447 Maybe it has an ability like: "Peacekeeper: this pokemon can only use non-damaging healing moves. Every turn there is a 25% chance that one or both of the opposing pokemon will refuse to attack." So it would really only be useful in double battles, but would allow it to help in battles without actually fighting.
Suzeam's ability reminds me of one of these classic Gen 1 Creepypastas. Imagine it, you get this weird Pokémon Red cartridge and see that it already has a save file. You decide to check it. You're at the very beginning, after getting your starter. You check what is your starter and it's a Pokémon you've never heard of : Suzeam. It's level 5. You go into the first rival fight with it, but everytime you press FIGHT, it always displays the same message : SUZEAM does not want to FIGHT. So you lose, but as usual when you lose in that fight, the game continues as expected. But after that, you don't encounter any wild Pokémon, and trainers don't fight you, as if they've already been defeated. And the scripted battles like the other rival fights, Gym Leaders, or the Giovanni fights don't happen at all. These characters are nowhere to be found. That is until you reach the Pokémon League, with just Suzeam, still level 5. The Elite 4 members are not here either, so you pass through their rooms until you reach Blue. He is there and you start the final battle as normal, but the same message appears, "SUZEAM does not want to FIGHT", and Blue's Pokémon don't attack either. Maybe they don't want to hurt this poor little Pokémon that doesn't even want to be here. You keep pressing FIGHT, and this time the message changes. Stop. No. I don't want to. Stop insisting ! I said... NO ! Then the Game Boy produces a loud continuous sound, as if it's a scream, and crashes with the sound still playing. You turn off the console and then back on. When you reach the save file screen, the save file is gone. You start a new game and this time, the starters are once again Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander. It's as if Suzeam never existed. What do you think ? It's the kind of vibe that I get from Suzeam's ability, and honestly, it fits with the Halloween theme very well.
Good creepypasta writing, btw. The concept was there, but you pulled it together. I’d throw in that you ought to encounter Effijack at some point in the second playthrough, but I don’t know how to integrate that.
@@msf2399 Thank you that means a lot ^-^ And I dunno, I feel like the creepypasta works just fine with Suzeam alone. Besides, what happens with Effijack isn't that far from what happens in the actual Pokémon games, you know ? Like, you have these Pokémon that try to attack you, and try to escape the Poké Balls you throw at them. But as soon as that Poké Balls locks, they're your friends now, and they obey your every word. However, if you don't have enough badges, they literally try to not fight for you. They're fighting for control, sometimes succeeding and doing nothing, sometimes failing and doing what you asked, and sometimes hurting themselves as they try to resist (when they "hurt themselves in confusion"). Pokémon are turned docile by Poké Balls. That's the truth, and even the strongest Pokémon have a hard time resisting the effects Poké Balls have on them. With that plus Poké Balls being pretty much confirmed to be powered by Pokémon Life Force, it's pretty bad. In OrAs' Delta Episode, Mr. Stone confirms that the Devon Corp. drains Pokémon Life Force. It's horribly painful for the Pokémon, and has been shown in X and Y to kill them if they're drained of all their Life Force. And Devon uses it to power basically everything that they create. And guess what are one of the things they created ? All the Poké Balls besides the Poké, Super, Hyper and Master ones. These 4 were created by the Silph Corp., but they probably use Pokémon Life Force too. Pokémon Life Force is the energy source of the Poké Balls, but maybe that's also how they make Pokémon docile and obedient. By making a connection between the Life Force inside the Ball and inside the Pokémon, allowing the Ball to regulate the Pokémon's Life Force. After all, Mega Evolution gives the Pokémon huge amounts of Life Force and makes them uncontrollable. So maybe Poké Balls regulate their Life Force to do the opposite of Mega Evolution : making them more controllable and obedient. The fact that Mega Evolved Pokémon become uncontrollable despite being in a Poké Ball adds to my point. They have so much Life Force in them that the Poké Balls can't regulate it and control them. But regardless of how they do it, the truth of the matter is that Poké Balls force Pokémon to be obedient to their trainers. The harmony between humans and Pokémon is a hypocritical lie. I analyze the lore and themes of Pokémon a lot, so you can trust me on that.
@@msf2399 If you're interested, you can check my comment again. I changed the creepypasta just a tiny bit, removing the Elite 4 members just like the other scripted fights so that only Champion Blue is left. That way, this story starts with fighting Blue and ends with fighting Blue as the only two fights of the game. I think it works well narratively.
@@msf2399During the second playthrough, something stands out. Blue is written as notably more of a jerk. Most of his lines towards the player feel meaner then they are in base Red/Blue, he’s a lot more prone to calling his Pokemon weak, and he constantly brags about boxing his old weaker teams for stronger new ones. Aside from that, it’s all just normal Pokemon Red and Blue… until the penultimate rival battle. In this second-to-last battle before Victory Road, Blue actually has a familiar face in rotation: Suzeam. Same weak stats, same message about not wanting to fight, and everything. It’s a bit weird to see it this far, especially on Blue’s team, but you defeat it. You don’t exactly have much of a choice in the matter, seeing as you can’t run from Trainer Battles. Blue’s lines after the battle are somehow even harsher then the usual ones he has in this altered save, with a lot of his ire being directed towards Suzeam, with him mentioning that he’ll train it until it’s the ultimate fighting machine. Eventually, you make it to the League, but again, something’s not right. You go into Lorelei’s chamber, and battle her, but over half of her team is already fainted, with her two remaining Pokemon not even being at full health. The rest of the League isn’t faring much better, with Lance not even bothering to fight you as his entire team was decimated by what he calls “an utter monster of a POKEMON”. Eventually, all that’s left is Blue. His dialogue seems mostly the same, but instead of mentioning that he has teams to counter any type of Pokemon, he mentions that he has the perfect Pokemon to counter any type of Pokemon. The battle starts, and, unlike most of his other fights, Blue only has one Pokemon. “BLUE sent out EFFIJACK!”
@@Oceane1803 ...they also battle us to test if we're worthy to train them. Them staying in the ball is them deciding we're worthy. I *also* study Pokémon lore a lot.
I legitimately think that Suffocage being Normal-type is the scariest thing about it. If it was a Bug-type, it would just be a weird big spider, and it wouldn’t even have all the features people fear in real spiders. But NORMAL? What IS this thing made out of? I don’t know if I want to know.
@@mirandatagliamonte9754 I mean, most Normal types are just animals, or at least corelate. So, we have seen mammals, reptiles, and birds, all of which have fairly similar internals. It just seems to be covered in a hard shell, especially the 'nails', which is really the weird part. Fortunately, all those Normal types I mentioned have some hard part they could be covered with: scales on both birds and reptiles, and keratin from mammals.
I thought that Gaunteater would be an Fakémon based on SCP 682, but being based on scary faces that Truegreen7 is scared of on an anteater is creative.
On hindsight, maybe a Fakémon based on SCP 682 would be crazy overpowered. The thing's adaptability made it basically impossible to kill, the hypothetical Fakémon would dwarf Mewtwo as the most powerful Pokémon in existance.
tbh it reminds me of SCP-682, the fused Alexander and Nina from FMA, and that one dude who has a full dog suit to make himself as close to being a dog as possible
An interesting idea for a 3rd Suseam evolution that's "pacifist" is that if it only levels up by exp share or switch training, you get a being that has never battled themselves, but is constantly surrounded by and experiencing battle nonetheless, much like the trainer themself. I picture it going down a Fear of Uncanny Valley kind of root, where it grows and becomes frighteningly human. I could see it being Mono Normal still, but it only gets 1 new move: Instruct. It is a Pokemon that believes itself the trainer.
I'm imagining it as Max friendship with less than so many EVs: pacifist evolution Reaching max EVs: effijack either a basic level value, Max friendship if you have an Effijack in party, or some other thematic method (I don't have anything good here): Chimerionett
"I could see it being Mono Normal still, but it only gets 1 new move: Instruct. It is a Pokemon that believes itself the trainer." YOOOO, I love that! Since it's confirmed to be the closest Pokemon relative of humans, that would be so cool and creepy!

Of all the designs, I feel that Suzeam works best due to it being scary *because* it's a Pokemon. It takes full advantage of the culture of the Pokemon world we tend to take for granted. It uses game mechanics to spin a narrative with its evolutions, so even without its supporting lore, you can piece together just how messed up this Pokemon is just from the ability it gains. It even plays with the expectations of similarly weak Pokemon evolving into massive powerhouses (ie Magikarp -> Gyarados), making veteran trainers patiently raise one with the expectation that it grows strong, but only realizing in the end the cost of that strength. It's incredibly unnerving because in a blind playthrough, I'm pretty sure I would just behave like the older brother and end up with an Effijack. I would like to see an evolution of Suzeam where it gains enough EXP/friendship without engaging in a battle at all. It's certainly possible, especially with EXP candies.
I have subconsciously projected all the conflicted feelings of being forced into combat by a “loved one” expressed in the Suzeam story into my own pokemon for years now. That is why I have a moral objection to all nuzlockes and can only play this “children’s game” under the premise that the participants are consensually engaging in a non-lethal pseudo-combat sport. The cognitive dissonance doesn’t let me enjoy it otherwise 😱 TL;DR Reoma did a great job with Suzeam
Lore wise, Pokémon do actually battle with you by their own will. If a wild Pokémon challenges you to a battle, it’s specifically because it wants to be your friend, the battle is it testing you to see if you’re a good enough trainer for it to want to battle alongside you (that’s also why traded Pokémon check for badges, they didn’t get to gauge your skill by battling you themselves). If a Pokémon doesn’t want to be caught, it Can’t Be unless you use a master ball on it (and in the more recent games, it’s often specified that legendary Pokémon want you to catch them and are just testing your skills first). Nuzlockes are kind of sad though, it might help to think about it as a game you’re Pokémon and you are playing together to see how far you could go together without them fainting instead of them actually dying? After they faint, they’re out of the game (put in the pc) until your whole party faints or you beat the champion. After the game is over, you can imagine taking them all out and them talking to each other about their coolest battles. You don’t have to do nuzlockes but if you want to without getting sad then this could be a good way of thinking about it.
I like thinking that pokemon are actually closer to spirits than they are to animals. That their bodies are not exactly organic, which means that they cannot suffer any major damage in a permanent way.
@@StitchwraithStudios my headcanon for why most adults you fight throughout the series do not finish their gym challenge: because nuzlocke rules are actually standard (which is consistent with the Adventures manga) and as regular people without psychopathic tendencies, they would rather find a different dream than to continue letting their friends die in the search for personal glory 🤷🏽♂️🧐
Excerpts from interviews by investigative journalism podcast ‘Behind the Ball’: “Yeah, no one knows why you can’t battle with Suzeams. But it’s not like anyone cares; The stats are garbage and they don't even wanna fight anyway. Don’t get why it’s illegal, though. What’s the point?” “Uh, it’s been illegal to use Suzeam in battle-pro or casual-for like a century. Like, jail-time level illegal. Heck, you need special permission to even own one-the rest are kept on some reservation somewhere. It’s because they’re too gentle. For battle, I mean. Making them fight would just be cruel. And it wouldn’t even be worth it if you wanted to; weak stats, weak typing, no evolutions. So no, no one cares enough to want to use a Suzeam even if they could.” “They just aren’t built for combat. Forcing them into such an uncomfortable position would be cruel and inhumane. It’s believed that they’re the closest relative of our species in the pokemon world, you know. It’s not too surprising that they don’t function like normal pokemon.” “Many have stated that their uselessness in battle leads people to agree with the laws surrounding them-with them having weak stats and no evolutions.” “Correct. A sign that they simply can’t function in a combat environment. Thankfully, they respond well to domestic environments, so-” “But doesn't Suzeam have an evolution?” “Nope. It’s a single form pokemon for it’s entire lifespan-” “What about the 1908 Galar Champion? Didn’t he use an evolved Suzeam? “...Where in the world did you get that idea?” “I’ve been researching Suzeam’s history from before it was banned from participating in battles. It’s uselessness means there was little documentation of its use, but there was an article about the Galar Champion of that year-who’s name was expunged from the record-who claimed the previously unidentified pokemon he battled with was an ‘Effijack’, the evolved form of his Suzeam.” “Oh! Oh, no-no that claim was proven incorrect. You see, it was discovered soon after his ‘victory’ that the man in question had cheated in the tournament, and he was subsequently removed from the champion position and stricken from the halls’ records in shame. That ‘pokemon’ was part of his ruse; it wasn’t actually present at any of the battles.” “So Effijack does not exist.” “No, it does not” “And the illegalization of Suzeam’s use in battle had nothing to do with it or its user. “Exactly.” “The same user whose entire property was found utterly annihilated not long after his return home?” “A tragedy, but not one connected to this discussion.” “What did happen at that mansion, anyway?” “Unfortunately, there was nothing left behind to gather evidence from. But given that the man in question was a liar and a charlatan with eyes bigger than his stomach, he probably tried doing something he shouldn't have.”
20:33 that design and concept reminds me a bit of Spamton from Deltarune. I wonder if there was any inspiration from that? For those who don't know Spamton, he basically is a puppet-like being obsessed with breaking free of his strings, but he becomes unable to move & disappears/dies if you free him
I really feel bad for Suzeam. I think it deserves a 3rd happier evolution where if you achieve max friendship without ever using it in battle, you get a pseudo legendary fairy type. I would also make it that Sapien Soul has the extra effect of causing you to lose friendship points with Suzeam when she is forced to battle.
I think what makes Gaunteater jus that little bit more terrifying is that the way the hair on its back droops down over its back and face reminds me of Nina from Full Metal Alchemist after she was turned into a homunculus by her dad, which honestly makes me imagine it mimicking the voice of humans to try and lore you closer until it slowly crawls out of the shadow like Jack said first one leg and then the other followed by the actual head. And I feel like if I actually encountered Gaunteater and it did that to me, I think I'd straight up have a heart-attack.
For me, Reoma's Fakemon illustrate the fear of breaking something beyond repair. And then it's _our fault forever._ I had this mental image of a Trainer with an Effijack -- maybe its theirs that they regret forcing to evolve, maybe they got it from somebody else -- but they're sitting somewhere warm and safe and bright, holding its hand, just trying to show it some comfort or fellow feeling or _something_. But no mattter how long they sit there, the Effijack never moves until commanded to.
The effect and fear you were describing when talking about Gaunteater is called the "Uncanny Valley" Ron. It's the instinctual fear/revulsion of something that looks *almost* normal but just has one or 2 subtle things off: Scientists believe that the Uncanny Valley was actually an evolutionary adaptation to help ancient humans distinguish illness at a distance (I.E. if you see someone at a distance who looks unusually gaunt or pale (Often the most clear visual signs of illness), the instinctual response is to keep your distance.
There's also the theory that human-looking creatures (think Neanderthals and such) hunted early Homo sapiens, thus making modern humans afraid of anything that looks very human but definitely is not
Way back when i was just a little bitty boy, living in a box under the stairs in the corner of the basement of the house half a block down the street from jerry's bait shop, you know the place
Well anyway, back then life was going swell and everything was just peachy Except, of course, for the undeniable fact that every single morning My mother would make me a big ol' bowl of sauerkraut for breakfast
The thing about scary Pokemon isnt just how they look like. Its how you ARE in relative size to it. Imagine Suffocage irl... Or for any current pokemon. Like a horse sized SCOLIPEDE.
I mean, have you seen how Scolipede scales in size when shown in the anime? Even in the games, it’s stated to be 2.5m/8’2”. What I find curious is the fact that we haven’t seen it in the games beyond Sword/Shield. After Sw/Sh are PLA and S/V, both of which have same-species size variations. If the “average” size remains what is already stated, then what would the size-rater in Mesagoza consider to be max size/humungo before granting the Jumbo mark? And let’s not forget that Jumbo-sized Pokémon in S/V aren’t remotely similar to the sizes of Alpha Pokémon. (I’ve tested this with H. Samurott. Its height is approx. the same as your trainer’s in S/V at max size. In PLA, its Alpha size is 2.55m/8’04”. That’s bigger than the average Scolipede, for context.) Out of curiosity, I just went ahead and calculated the Alpha variances for any Pokémon in PLA of similar average height to Scolipede. An Alpha would be roughly 3.66m/12’00” in height alone, not including the rest of its body that extends back. That’s a BIG bug.
40:53 yes you can! you can anthropomorphize the personality instead of the shape :) huntsman spiders (is that what theyre called?) move really scarily, but they're just scared themselves!
I thank all of you for giving Justice to the Normal Type today. THIS IS WHAT THE TYPE IS FOR, and you all Nailed it. Thank you as a "Normal Types are not Boring/Transition type" advocate
The Suzeam line are now some of my favourite fakemon ever. Suzeam has a perfect balance of cute and creepy with a terrifying ability, and both Effijack and Chimerionett are absolutely awesome design wise while being utterly horrifying and tragic with how they've been reduced to mere husks of what they once were. Super awesome video! Suzeam and its evolutions are my favourites, but Tinvader really appeals to my love for aliens and spiders, and Suffocage is so cool and scary at the same time.
22:05 This is probably the best one in terms of horror. While it is canonical that Pokemon fight on their own will and spirit, the idea of forcing Pokemon to fight and hurt against their will... its horrifying because it feels inheriently wrong.
unravenge reminds me of ursula le guin's short story "the ones who walk away from omelas" but darker. one suffers through all so everyone else never feels pain. so freaking cool.
Suzeam and her evolutions encompasses both the joke and reality of people enslaving Pokémon to fight each other. How the pokeball is apart of the design and is tied to the Pokémon is such clever storytelling. I would like to see an evolution where Suzeam is treated well
This is probably one of my favorites 4 artists videos by far, not only the designs are super interesting and definitely different then what we are used to see. But the storytelling, the amount of effort you guys put into creating these stories to why these pokemon are scary or how they became scary - absolutely beautiful Reomas ability to make such incredible tales and top it off with as incredible designs is so cool, like not just scary but also they made me feel sad and angry in behalf of all 3 forms. Love it
God damn Effijack is genuinely scary looking lol if I saw that as a kid I’d be scared of that pokemon. Great job on that one and the story showed behind how Suzeam becomes that. It’s genuinely kind of sad how a pokemon that doesn’t want to fight when pushed can only respond to a command upon evolution. I know it’s a pokemon but if this pokemon was in the game I wouldn’t make it battle. The result screams that this should not be as it’s overtaken by the strings that knot in it whenever it’s told to attack. Both Effijack and Chimerionett have tragedy behind them those poor Suzeam’s man I feel so bad for them and that girl. Reoma did great with these. I can imagine if there was a trainer who helped work through it not wanting to battle there can be like a good, neutral and bad ending. Chimerionett can be neutral since you can still treat it with kindness and understanding about it fearing you will force it to battle even when it doesn’t want to battle and not force it to battle but slowly try to see if you can work through its fears but it already destroyed and rebuilt its form because of it fearing that you will force it to battle. Then Effijack can be the bad ending where by forcing it enough to battle it becomes that and only responds to command.
He made an entire Poem about the Lore and it went hardcore! I dont think you can turn my Fear into a Pokémon, the fear of falling, or losing the ground under your feet. I HATE old, rusty ladders, stairs, or those Lookout platforms that shake with every step!
What if it was a Pokemon that lives in hilly/mountainous terrain, and it was a Ghost or Flying type that can fly so softly and so steadily that it can pick you up and carry you without your noticing, and only once you look down do you realize the floor is five feet below you, and that's when the light tug from behind your shirt lets go
As someone with some very unusual phobias (buttons, beads and small round objects especially!) it was so fun to see all the interesting things that freak you guys out. I always felt there was a big difference between fears that are irrational and fears that are fully understood and warranted, and I loved the mixture of those in the designs, and the discussions surrounding them. Great vid!
Despite what Jack said about it looking silly, out of all fakemon displayed in this video, Glutdemer is the closest to what personally would terrify me to death. I'm super scared of the deep water in general, and especially of giant unknown abyss dwellers. Although I'd make it a lot bigger. bigger than Eternatus, just to maximize the fear factor
I really resonate with Glutdemer. As I have fears of what lurks deep underwater as well as a crippling fear of the dark. To add ontop of this with my own imagination during the entirety of this video I had envisioned something terrifyingly similar that lurked in dark caves, sewer pipes and abandoned building/basements. Think of it as a warning to bring a light with you into the dark, or a Pokemon with the ability of Flash for the older generations, Where you walk inside blindly stumbling around and then feel the chilling wind down your neck but only now realizing you're far too late as you walked deep into the maw of a creature awaiting deep inside. I imagined something along the lines of a large malleable Ice/Ghost type, kinda like the scene from Spongebob with the Alaskan bull worm or the use of something like a Bobbitt worm. Anyways this was a great video, alot of really good Fakemon that gave me some weird feelings for the spooky season~
I saw someone reviewing it, not even the movie itself and it's lived rent free in my head as terror since. When I learned people don't take it seriously and make fun of it, I just... I don't know how. It's so wild that people don't fear losing the ability to make decisions as their humanity fades out from behind their eyes...
Tinvader reminds me of the Peahats from The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I could see it planting itself in a field and then suddenly emerging from the ground to chase you.
Tinvader & Glutdemer are absoluuutely perfect!!!! Wonderful pokemon! And wow the Suzeam line is legitimately unsettling, to kill your own humanity to not feel as enslaved....
Crazy how this was exactly what I tried to do during Bonny's art prompt for October! I made a potoo with glowing green eyes and gaping throat that phases into hotel rooms and inflicts sleep paralysis on guests. It will find a place to perch in the room and wait for hours. It takes inspiration from banshees as well, with long hair-like feathers on its head, and the ability to cry fake tears of ectoplasm as the paralyzed hotel guest can only sit and watch. Once the guest starts regaining control of their body, it goes in for a massive jumpscare. If you wanna see it, check the end of Bonny's Halloween video! Everyone killed it with this prompt!
This video reminded me that I still have to design this one Pokemon idea I got from a dream I had. The actual dream didn't feature a Pokemon (well, outside of a Tentacruel and Pikachu, but their roles were pretty minor in the story), but the story of the dream made for a really cool Pokemon concept. Sorry if this comment is long, but I figured I'd tell the whole story since people are going ask to hear it anyways. The story is that four Pokemon trainers had recently gotten their 8 gym badges, and decided to hold a little celebration before entering the Pokemon league. They rented out a nice boat and went out on a lake to celebrate. The party started off pretty tame: the trainers were just hanging out and talking, playing games, taking photos, and just having fun with each other. At some point, one of the four trainers just wanders off and disappears. Just doesn't come back to where they are hanging out inside the boat. But despite their friend going missing, none of the others seem to have noticed. In fact, they seemed to be having even more fun now; dancing and stumbling around, cheering loudly, teasing each other. The energy on the boat seems to get even more manic, and nobody notices when the second trainer disappears. By the time the mania has reached it's peak, the final trainer doesn't realize they are alone on the boat. They're Pikachu, which was out of their Pokeball, was nuzzling them with worry as they just sat in a chair laughing and just generally acting like the other three were still there. Eventually, they stumble to their feet and walk out to the deck for fresh air and bask in the sun. As they approach the edge of the railing, they are hit with the strong desire to just jump in. And they do. They just jump into the lake and let themselves sink. The mania they had seem to be suffering is just gone, and they are just staring blankly up at the surface of the water. While they are sinking, a hungry Tentacruel tries to grab them, thinking they're just an easy meal. The sensation of being stung by Tentacruel's poison is enough to shock the trainer out of their hypnosis. They realize they are drowning and start struggling and panicking. They end up fainting as they attempt to break the surface of the water; both from drowning, and the poison from the Tentacruel. The fourth trainer ended up surviving: their unconscious body was found along the shore when some local fisherman called the police about an abandoned boat on the waters. They were the only survivor of that boat party; even their Pikachu ended up disappearing not long after they blacked out. Their friends were never found, not even remains. The trainer doesn't even remember the events of that day, so the police never really figured out what happen, just that clearly everyone went overboard at some point. And this inspired two things for my own personal Pokemon region: 1 - The Pokemon which is currently known as Callure (Callous + Lure, also kinda sounds like Killer), a Psychic/Dark type Pokemon inspired by Kelpie. 2 - A "Ghost" Gym Leader: who is the trainer that survived that incident, and is unknowingly using the same Pokemon that killed his friends and tried to kill him as his Ace Pokemon.
As a mini idea to add, can the Pikachu come back as a ghost? And when the Ghost Trainer sees it, they remember what happened to them and Callare can get its comeuppance?
@@Drawing-Roses I actually have the "Ghost" gym leader's whole thing planned out, and I don't really want there to be a moment like that. While it was certainly a tragedy, Callure was just doing what it does in order to survive; and the trainer himself in current day is not exactly that great of a person himself. Plus, I kinda like the tragic horror, almost creepypasta nature, of the gym leader's story: it really brings home the horror vibes for there to be no happy ending. Plus, the Pikachu is mostly just there to emphasize that this character was once more of a protagonist figure like Red or Ash; a trainer who has a deep bond with Pokemon and loves everything about them. Now he despises Pokemon, and the few Pokemon he does keep with him now have a bad relationship with him. He's even a sort of "admin" figure for the evil "team" of the region; the Pokemon Hunters; though his motive for hunting Pokemon is pretty different from the majority of Pokemon Hunters. Although he does have a Pokemon that kinda fills the role your thinking of for the Pikachu. Another Pokemon on his team is Feral form Umbreon (which is ghost type), and when/if the regional protagonists reopen his heart to Pokemon, that Pokemon sort of replaces Pikachu as his partner.
@@bluejay43 while I say awww for my idea, I say I like the Umbreon and I think a cool name for them would be Pic for the lost Pikachu and what the Umbreon will be to the trainer farther down the line.
I feel like Glutdemer's old school Pokedex entry would have something along the lines of it being able to swallow an Olympic sized swimming pool by just opening its mouth, and how the force is so powerful that nothing can escape. All of them are creepy spooky Pokemon. More, please.
