@thunder can you please explain how you can’t earn much? One of his first points in the video was compensation. From my experience, big 4 pays higher than joining industry
Agree with conditions. You can learn more if you're working for startups but sometimes that can be too much for somebody. Big 4 are definaltely a safer way to start and experiment with career options. Since the pay is low, your overall risk is low to the organization and yourself as individual.
@@ryanflores7624 The base salary is higher, but hourly rate is lower. Like say you were working in industry for 40 hours to make 40k. If you worked 80 hours in Big 4, you would only get 60k, not 80k. And those 80 hours are filled with much more stress and deadline requirements. It's still a good way to start of your career if you're young and have the energy to work those long hours for the experience.
Thank, man. I'm glad I found something positive about the big 4, as most videos are about "accumulated depression" and crying in bathrooms. I'll enter the field at 48 years old with a bachelor's degree, and I work very hard and have plenty of energy, desire, and people skills. There's just so much negativity surrounding the big 4 from what I'm seeing, which is mostly online.
Quite interesting when a current staff (not from Canada) watching this. Not to comment what you have said, the only thing I would want to remind people is that Big4 working environment varies from different countries.
Started on an audit grad scheme at PwC in September (UK) and it's been amazing so far! In a way it feels like a bit like Uni 2.0. You've got a year group and great socials. Pay is kinda low IMO but I'm not really here there for the money tbh...
May i ask what you graduated in? I'm about to grad in Biomed and really want to get into the finance sector. Also im from manchester UK myself wondering if you're okay with sharing the salary. Thanks!
@@Ghost-un1ew Went in right after I graduated. They really don't care what degree you have and accept from all backgrounds. No need for CV. I applied September 2020 and had my offer in 3 weeks. Starts with a game based assessment -> Video interview -> Assessment centre if I remember correctly (could have changed now too).
These are great points, Mahdi. There are definitely advantages in working at big companies like the ones you mentioned which will be useful in your transition to being a consultant or entrepreneur. Thanks for sharing!
You are preaching to the choir Mahdi!! I stumbled upon your video as I was searching for how to get into tech consultancy once I graduate from university next year & everything you said especially about having these firms invest in your learning is so aligned with what I want out of my career. Filled up your form too!
PWC salary is not that great, I don't know where you get your info from..Maybe you are an outlier? They offer 55k AUD in Aus for associate software developer. They have offered me 56k, also, other smaller firms offer up to 70k starting salary to software developers. I have an interview tomorrow, if I pass it, I'm gonna reject PwC's offer.
I was a little bit surprised myself. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. Compared to some others, it isn't really spectacular - in many regions, I should say. The hottest of the perks that the big four give, comes in form of exit opportunities, not necessarily compensation.
Yh pwc pay is terrible no point wasting years at that firm unless ur planning to stay in 9-5 forever. Starting salary for audit is £23k. All about aiming big from early on: Deutsche, JP, MS, Goldman’s are the ones💪🏽
The big 4 probably makes a few hundred million to a billion in revenue which means that have a lot to spend. However, the question is whether they’re willing to spend it.
Do 3 years in the big 4 then gtfo. it's not all about learning, what are you going to do if you can't capitalise on all that knowledge gained? respect your time and know when to move into industry #$perHour
The compensation at a big 4 is not amazing, that is a lie. They offered me $170,000 compared to a large investment bank who offered me $320k I found the big 4 compensation is average to slightly better than other fortune 500s.
@@DR-110 coming from a poor background amd nearly homeless. I now am making 75k-85k right out of college. PwC has given me a chance to be something great in they company along with testing my capabilities as a consultant I honestly don’t mind working cause I rather work now while I’m young and relax when I am old
The main reason why big 4 can pay better to their employees is due to one simple reason they charge their customers a higher rate. But yes depending on the grade if you are an associate they might change your less compared to someone who is the specialist lead for their service. That being said not everyone fancy working for Big4. It's great for a consultant but if you are tech-heavy person then perhaps Google or Microsoft will be the better option.
Thanks for the video. Just accepted an offer for Pwc for the digital assurance and transparency position. Can’t wait for the knowledge I am going to gain.
Big question - how to get in a big 4 firm? Even when the JD matches your profile, it's difficult to get shortlisted. Not able to understand what exactly are they looking for.
I would say connecting on LinkedIn (asking for short coffee chats to discuss firm opportunities) and going to career fairs. I applied to EY 4 times before I finally got accepted. Blindly applying did not help me at all. However, when I met Managing Director who was in the division that I was interested in, I used my elevator pitch and walked him through my resume. He was very nice and it was easy to talk to him(especially in person, rather than via regular messages). They are people just like every one of us, who want to see your personality and get to know you better. Connecting with as many of them as you can is key. Show them your ambitions, willingness to learn, and what you can bring to the table. Hope that helps!
I would never get anything done with a ferris wheel outside of my window. 5:16 But DAMMM, NICE BREAK ROOM! Will the internet be faster then my 3G Hotspot?
@@livelikecactus3732 I've never had to work OT. In fact, I'm constantly told that I can only work 40 hours. The balance is great. I've never felt more relaxed at a job where I have equal (if not more) time with my family at home. I know it sounds like I'm biased, but I've worked for many large Fortune 500 companies and I was always treated like a number. Here, at PwC, I am treated as a person. PwC is all about upskilling employees, healthy habits, diversity, and various recognition programs.
There are so many ways to manage and prepare for a relaxing future, we just always have to keep doing our best because whatever we plant now, we will harvest later good or bad

Would like to ask if you have any colleagues in the cyber risk advisory/penetration testing side for these big 4? Willing to learn about their experiences
Working at a big 4 is the worst mistake I have made. Outdated tech stack, very few young people in tech, horrible pay and benefits and out of all the worst ever work life balance. For a Master's Graduate hire in Software Development , they pay even lesser than what amazon pays to its technical support staff.
Huh? $60+K a year salary? Dude even a non big 4 firm offers all these benefits. As a software engineer in FAANG these aren’t even competitive salaries. That’s below average.
@@loveme96u Thats so sad, somehow its the same thing here, talking about cashier. My question is if an american fresh graduated is 25-30 times better than one in Eastern Europe. (no hate)
@@andreimonea8424 yeah, i totally agree with you. But wait, it gets even sadder. EY pays 100e their interns in Serbia. Literally you can't even buy your monthly coffee for that much money. 100e for graduates!!! And it's a minimum 6 months contract
@@loveme96u Holy shit dude..How is Deloitte? I'm working for Deloitte Digital as a software dev, the compensation is better here but still way, way more less than America.
@@andreimonea8424 ahhaha as far as I know Delloite and KPMG don't pay their interns. So I am speaking from a perspective of an economist. Starting salary at PwC has increased this year to about 600e... so at least some things are improving. They have a lot of problem with employee retention, especially the juniors, as it's become clear that there are far better options than the "big" 4. In my opinion the option of working from home that PwC and some other firms introduced is a big plus, as at least you don't have to spend literally your entire salary for "professional - client ready, presentable" office clothes. Especially software developpers are getting jobs at IT firms as the starting salary is usually over 600e (for Microsoft I think it's above 1000e).
I'm starting as a Senior Associate in Analytics in PwC in 3 weeks! Watching your videos helped me decide on this job. Thanks and looking forward to more of your content!
Love your videos! What is your degree? Information Systems or Information Technology 🤔 You might have mentioned it before but I just started watching you
Bro, wtf is that social package? Okay, I knew it's good, but hollly, how could it be THAT good? Is it something Big4 have in most offices in North America and Europe?
PwC guy here in France. Salaries are lower than the market, and benefits are close to non existent. I got promised interesting missions, a nice career path and a good salary increase during the interviews. Instead, I got staffed on missions that have nothing to do with my qualifications (so I nearly had to learn a whole new discipline) and I won't talk about the salary increase. In a big 4, you're nothing more than a resource for a partner who's focusing heavily on cash flow, and they don't really care about who you are as a person and how you value what you spent 5 years studying for. I'm greatly frustrated and I'm looking to leave it asap. Feeling like I've been lied to by the HR and the consultants during the interviews.
Best of luck on your employment with PwC. I have known several individuals that were as excited as you are when they began and totally disappointed about 18 months later. The primary factor that will keep you employed at PwC is the "Utilization Rate". You get a pass on year number 1, but if your utilization rate subsequently drops below acceptable levels, they will drop you like a rock. In closing, get to know as many Directors/Partners as you can; as they will normally determine who is included in their current and future projects. Also, it is not about the current project, but the project you must be included in after the current one is completed.
Thanks man! You're totally right, check out this video where I talk about my experience at PwC: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmCv8O2pg5I.html
