Make sure your house and yard work are done first! My Dad, bless his heart, used to get so disgusted with us teenagers when we drove to the gym to work out, while after a long days work as a plumber, he had all this yard work, etc to do. He was tired! I GET IT now. Rest in Peace, Dad😢❤
I'm a guy who is now about jillion years old. Okay, I'm actually 72. I got started with resistance training about 7 or 8 years ago when I was given two dumbbells of 25 and 30 pounds. My #1 thought at the beginning, and even now years later, is to not hurt myself. Every other day I do 3 sets of 20, curls, bench presses and something called "rows". The positives are that I have never hurt myself and have maintained good upper body function and if it matters at this point, decent physical appearance. The downside is that on a number of occasions I have been asked by neighbors to do physical chores such as lifting moderately heavy objects onto shelves or into/out car trunks. My one piece of advice for anyone just starting is to take it slow and cautiously.
We have a friend who goes to the gym regularly. Sadly, he never chips in when the other guys are doing physical work or moving heavy objects... smh What's the point of having strong muscles if they're never used to help your friends? 😒
Good job working together with this training Brad and Mike. I appreciate that Brad mentioned how Bob sometimes doubles up both tube handles with one hand when doing biceps curls. It’s so nice to keep Bob present in this way.
@@KarmicSalt Bob has been diagnosed with ataxia, which "affects his balance and speech, but does not affect his thinking", as they describe it. Here's where they talk about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8zFEppGYEKA.html (Got to LOVE Bob!!!)
@@KarmicSaltprobably quicker to go find old you tube videos where they mention it on Bob and Brad. I think they recently had an update. If you're following them, you would find it.
I absolutely love firm toned muscles on a female. I exercised all my life and I am over 60. Love the bands. Ladies, don't be afraid of muscle tone. It will keep us youthful looking and able to stay active much longer.
I was going to ask if these exercises are good for women too. So you agree, these will work? Any other suggestions. I'm 52 and my arms are sagging and huge. I need to lose bulk and tighten & tone.
What are those red handles attached to the bands called. I bought some bands but it didnt come with them nice handles. I am in Australia dont know where to get these? Any help.pls
@kkgibbs1 The best way to lose bulk is avoiding refined carbs and sugars. Focus on adding proteins ie meats to your diet & fats. Yes, like butter, chicken with skin on it, eggs, bacon, butter & avocadoes are all good for you! SUGAR is the No No!👎🏻 Basically a Keto Diet or healthier version of Atkins. There are lots of YT videos describing it in detail! 😉 As far as exercise, start by walking and do a few of these exercises for one set only. Start with 8 oz water bottles. See how you feel in 2 days... Then you'll know if it was too much; cut back or if you can increase the diatance & speed of walking & more sets or weight of exercises... Much Luck on your Journey! 😎
@@kkgibbs1You might consider using dumbbells instead of bands. As long as you have good form ( you don't want a back injury), using more weight means less repetitions, so it's more efficient. Women will gain muscle tone and some definition, with more weight, but muscles look much better than flab. Plus they're handy. If you are ever in an accident and need to use crutches for a bit, upper body strength is wonderful.
@@BobandBrad would you consider occasionally having an old woman as a guest performer? There are a lot of older women out there who really need help because they end up as the caretakers. I know three different grandmothers who are raising their grandchildren.
My goodness you all aren't leaving anything un-turned with your video presentations I feel like you are reading my mind lately. I can't get enough of you guys! You helped me in a HUGE way in the past, and now it is time for maintenance! Thanks to your exercises, I am able to walk again, and now is time to strengthen. (Hello BOB!)

New here & thank you 💜💪🏾for the videos . I went back & caught up on Bob story. Prayers for Bob & family🙏🏽💜 Bob is a good example of how you can handle the challenge you have . He is still doing what he loves showing up to help @ work 🙏🏽🙌🏾 💪🏾🧠 ,heart & soul. Determination 💜it!!
Great video, just what I was looking for. Please say hi to Bob for me. You’re doing a great job Mike but it’s important to me that Bob knows he's not forgotten. God bless all three of you.
This was a very informative video. Showing how to use the door anchor was something I needed. The book included with your bands says to use only on the hinge side. If I do that then I can’t do any exercise. I bought my bands about 18 months ago but haven’t used them but once. I had cancer & I now feel strong enough to use them. Also, got the leg massager for my neuropathy which I still have. Prayers for Bob🙏. Keep those videos coming❤❣️
On a different note. I noticed that when you used the exercise band on the door you tied it to the knob in such a way that the door opened toward the person doing the exercises. For safety I situate the person so that the band is pulling the door shut. That way they don't accidentally get popped in the face by the door. I know of a patient who tied a Thera-Band to a doorknob and the door knob detatched and hit them in the gut. Just wanted to keep your viewers safe. Thanks for your videos. Wishing Bob, Brad and Mike well.
You bring up a good point with the Door anchor. The Wall Anchors eliminate all of those concerns and are much easier to use. Thanks again for your feedback. Brad
Lov'n that Bob and Brad tee shirt. Was that around before our friend became striken? Maybe profits from it could be a method of contribution to assist Bob with health improvement expenses....?What a support item! I don't watch often, but so appreciate what I view when I do watch. All the best to Bob!
Terrific explanations of this band kit I purchased❤, Ty. Brad, you have really kept in great shape over the years💯👍. I will aspire to the wall anchors soon, ty Brad🎉. Great video Brad& Mike🎉
I have a Total Gym collecting dust so will adapt these exercises to the equipment I have. I’m not 60+ but have limited mobility so the lower intensity, less complicated routines are always appreciated.
Great instruction Mike and Brad. Hello Bob! I'm almost 50 and I like the idea of exercise bands. I love that they're portable. I'm thinking perfect for anything away from the gym. Vacation, holidays away. Any plans for a lower body band video?
🎉🎉Great video 3 years ago with Bob & Brad using the wall anchors ‼️Also, great video 5 years ago using bands. A lot of friends watch these and the new ones💪. Keep up the good work 🎉🎉
Hi! I use bands for my classes and clients and absolutely love what they can do! One tip I want to share with you and your followers is you can easily adjust the tension of the bands by simply rolling the handles over or just choking up on them.❤
Awesome info, I've just started using bands and I'm seeing good results. I went from using free weights years back, to a bowflex PR1000... and now I'm using bands. Back in the day I also had long flowing hair to go along with my big arms... these days I'm lucky if I can roll outta bed in the morning. Mick was right, ''what a drag it is getting old''
@@jwo1998 That world of wealth and fame have access to resources 99.999% dont. This has been well documented with credible evidence and many of them have admitted the same. Yes they he still has to do the exercises but trust me his life/wealth facilitates it.
😮 perfect timing for the video. I ordered your bands, wall anchors and the Q2 mini massage gun which arrived Saturday. I'm 60+ in pretty good health. Love hiking-now I've been trying to come up with a routine flexibility and muscle tone. I appreciate what ya'll do!! Thank you!!
I enjoy your videos, so please keep them coming (I do miss Bob, though.) I have a safety tip about the video. You show the door anchor being placed with the door opening toward the person using the bands. There are two things wrong with this. 1. If the door is not properly closed, it can fly open unexpectedly, launching the anchor toward the exerciser. 2. Someone might accidentally open the door from the other side while exercises are being performed with the same result. It is better to place the anchor so the door opens away from the exerciser. Doing so prevents the door from flying open if it is not closed properly and resists anyone opening the door when the bands are under tension.
I enjoyed this video because I am looking for a way to strengthen my upper body. You hit all the areas that I am looking for. Thank you for this video.
Loved the video just the information that I need and not too much! BUT don't know if it's my computer, or your video but I had to have my volume turned up to max. to hear the video but the commercials were loud! I don't know if there was a problem with your video?? Thank you so very much for all the help you've give us and the pain we have avoided. I'm over 80 and this is really what I need!
I am lookinf forward to these exercises! I am 73 and thought there wasn't anything I could do! Ty so very much!! Welcome Mike! Ive been watching Bob and Brad for two years off and on. I have been told by a family member not to exercise because it would make my lumbar stenosis more painful and I am too old now to strengthen my muscles!
Never believe anyone who says it's too late to exercise! Just be careful and start slow and build up from there. We have a bad habit of discouraging any sort of activity as peopke get older. It's very BAD advice. Keep active 🏃♀️
I got so excited when I watched this video because it seems like the bands can help in so many ways, especially for those who are not so mobile. Any particular band exercise that can help for lower back pain? It would be great if you could make a video for beginners to follow, where you are doing the different exercises and we could follow. There were quite a few exercises and each one has its own purpose. I'm not in the US so I will have to go and look for these bands and door anchors. Oh do make a video for us to use 🤗❤️
I have lost 75 lbs . I carry a lot of fat in my arms . Now that the fat is gone I’m left with bat wings 😮 I have been strength training now for around 3 months with progressive overload. I’m slowly beginning to see the difference. I’m not expecting to have completely toned arms but getting stronger and building lean muscle mass is my main goal now as I turn 50 in 2 years . This is also something that I will continue to do for all the benefits. I haven’t used bands yet … I may try them . Thanks 😊
Consider doing occasional fasting to tighten the skin. Fasting triggers autophagy (literal translation is "eat self"). Autophagy will have the body naturally consume the excess skin cells. Dr. Jason Fung talks about this in some of his videos and books www.youtube.com/@drjasonfung
The walking sticks you recommended have been wonderful for me. (Some people call them “trekking poles “) Every morning we walk for an hour and I use the sticks. My posture is good for the rest of the day and the sticks were not expensive. I owe bands already, I appreciate the exercises for my bat wings! Bob and Linda, we are sending good thoughts to you both.
I found this useful and thank you! Some key things were how you explained not to do the exercises so fast, but to allow for the muscles to do the work. A keyword you used that caught my attention was batwings - for sure i need help there! I wish you showed the door anchors in detail a little more especially that I am a beginner. I like how you explain the benefits of bands over weights and it makes sense especially that i live in a smaller space (55+ years per the video title). I liked also how you showed the scapular and chest muscles and how to squeeze or expand. This was useful, thank you again!
I bought the bands a few months ago for this very video. I found that if I had a door, it opened the wrong way or it was in a hallway that didn't allow me to extend my arms. Last night my husband installed my wall anchors in the basement. Love the bands. I am trying to work out doing the exercises and the variations while watching the videos.
For security: make your execise on the side of the door where the whole doorframe hinders the door from opening, not just the lock. Hope you have a little space to exercise on that side of the door! Great program to do here! Love it, as well as the leg ditto!
I just got my bands! I'm so excited!! Do you have more instructional videos on how to use them? This video is great!!! A playlist for resistance bands would be really nice. I'd love to see you demonstrate the exercises as it really helps me. ❤ you guys! Edit: I just found the comment below where you link to more videos. Thanks!
Hey this is the first video I've caught in a while came up in my RU-vid feed and I thought oh let me watch that cuz I'm 62 and I really liked what you were doing and then today I got on Amazon to look for some stretchy bands and hear your fantastic set was on sale for $29.97 and work down from $52.99 so I bought it and it has everything🎉 So I bought that and I'm waiting to get it and I'm going to do the exercises. It's going to really be great thank you
Great video as usual! Mike you seem so much more confident now that you were formally introduced! We’re glad you (and Bob) are here alongside Brad. You doing great! Mike aka Dr. Arms.
Great content. How often should bands be replaced to avoid them snapping? I had some snap, which scared me to use them. But living in a smaller place, I am seeing the appeal of them. I am disappointed you didn't mention you can begin just using our arms, they are heavy all by themselves! Or use soup cans or filled water bottles until you get bands or dumbbells. It's best to start now while you are motivated, by the time you get your equipment, you will have established the habit of exercising. There are also bodyweight exercises that need no equipment, but may be less accessible for those with poor health/mobility. Motion is Lotion, exercise lessens joint aches and pains, start now!
Just ordered a package through your link! Thank you so much for all you do, love your channel you guys are the best! Been watching for years now keep up the good work!
I’m 78 and using bands all the time. Ive had both knees, hips, and both shoulders replaced along with back surgery. My doctor said don’t use my shoulders to lift more than 25 pounds. I like using bands, but I can’t measure the pound resistance I put on my shoulders. I recently purchased a set of ADJUSTABLE dumbbells. Wow are they great! But they have limitations. I wish they had these when I was young. I would’ve have had 20 dumbbells in the garage. I do have a question. Let’s say you’re doing an exercise with 25 pounds. The speed of the rep determines how many reps you can do. I can do 16 reps at a overly fast pace and 6-8 reps at an extra slow pace. By reducing the speed of the rep have I created more than 25 pounds of resistance for each rep? I sure can feel the effort of the rep by moving the weight (and even the bands) at a slow speed. Thank you.
These are great, thanks for showing! Bands are great for traveling, especially in a RV! I did purchase your wall anchors for my basement. They attach well to the wood studs. You forgot to mention the 4th key component... motivation!
Hi, Bob, Brad, and Mike! Love your videos. You all have helped me “fix” myself so many times. I’ve been searching your videos for something related to upper arm pain I’ve been having, and I can’t find anything that fits the description. I have no idea what’s causing the pain in my upper left arm. If I stand with my arms hanging straight down and I abduct them laterally, straight out at shoulder height (like making a “T” shape with my body), everything feels fine. But if I let my arms hang down and then bend my elbows so my hands are out in front, and then do the same abduction movement to shoulder height, I have pain in my left arm when it gets up to about a 45 degree angle. I can lift it to shoulder height (parallel to the ground), but it’s very uncomfortable to do so. The pain is on the lateral side of the upper arm, a little closer to the elbow, but the elbow itself doesn’t hurt at all. It feels like it’s neither the tricep or the bicep, but somewhere in between. I can’t figure out what is causing it or what exercises to do to help the situation. Any suggestions? Or do you have any videos already that address this problem? Thanks in advance!
Thank you so much for all the info. And thank you so much for getting to the point! No long drawn out intro with too much talk or music!! Personally weights work better for me.. 👍🏼
Great exercises, and upper body strength is so important. I don't like bands and am using 10 pound dumbbells. Dumbbells make for strong hands, and hand strength is nice to have. Bands would be good for travel.
Great demonstrations. I want to do these exercises but the possibility of the bands snapping or coming off the wall anchor makes me really nervous. Serious accidents have been reported with band exercises.
