It's been 10 years, since I was in my late 20s since I've done it, but I used to get up early and run 3 to 5 miles before work that was physically draining aswell. Your body gets used to what it does, so it's sounds worse than it is. If you start small and work up , there's really nothing to it. However, having been 10 years since I've done it even I look back like "tf, how did I do it?" I literally took 2 naps today before noon. Dead serious on that. Lol. It's all in what you are used to, and I'm used to naps now. Lol
@@histguy101 I'm a morning person now. Didn't ever used to be. But I wake up between 3 and 5 every day, as soon as my eyes open I'm up and out of bed in 3 seconds. Used to be I would sleep till 2 in the afternoon if I could
I tend to get up around 4am despite not having to be at work until 6am. I feel great up until 2pm, then I crash hard and feel worn out for the rest of the evening. Some folks have different internal clocks I suppose
As a non native southerner I was always curious about the link these people seem to have with their local wilderness. I remember when I asked this one old shop keeper about it he said "Before there was a church on every corner of the Bible belt, people used to live, pray and die in them woods. There's more to them than just trees and varmints, and it remembers. If you respect and take care of the forest, it will respect and take care of you." I never knew exactly what he meant until diving into local lore like this.
Appalachia is famous for folklorists finding things in Appalachian culture that are much much older than you'd think. They often find ballads from the Middle Ages long forgotten in England alive and well or folk tales only a memory in thier original homeland still alive and well and believed. This particular story is a corruption of early Christian myths of the white Stag or doe(themselves a Christianization of older Celtic beliefs). Thomas Wyatts'(rummored to be Ann Bolyns co-adulterer) "Whoso List to Hunt" is probaly the one familiar to most audiences. In those stories the mythical deer is a Christophany; a manifestation or aspect of Christ and salvation. It stands to reason there must also be another darker unspoken counterpart.
Deern't: *looks innocently* Man: *pets the deern't* Deern't: *bites hand and shakes like ragdoll* Man: *squealing like a toddler while flailing limply*
Also, if you ever see several deer intently grazing one spot on the ground, don't approach. Saw that one night and came back the next day to see a badly mangled raccoon in the spot they were grazing, clear evidence of bite marks. You'll know them because they have the most uncomfortable gaze known to man. It's not like when a deer gets spooked and stares at you, it's something more deliberate, as if it's stalking you. Might find 5 or more pointed at you, staring you down, paying attention to you. Those are the bastards. They seem to like the night to the very early AM, past 4am you don't see them as much unless you're deep in the green. Had one follow me for a full mile down a trail before. They're deer, there's just something inherently predatory about them.
My cousin has a "not deer" story he told us. He was hunting in the woods and saw in a clearing a heard of deer being chased around by a 3 legged glossy silver colored deer-like creature. It had one leg coming from the center of its chest and the 2 usual back legs and it bounced around on them sort of like a rabbit or gazelle. Its head was a triangle, according to my cousin. He didn't clarify, just said "his head looked like a triangle." No mention of eyes or a mouth or anything. It was also unusual for deer to herd like that in the area much less get herded by this weird thing. He shot at it, because of course, and it went reeling like it got knocked over and scrambled like a bug flipped, obviously having trouble getting back on its 3 legs but it yeeted itself back upright and turned in his direction. My cousin ran off when it did that and apparently it did not chase him. He never saw anything like that again. We don't know him to be a habitual liar or just someone that even likes scary stories.
Was it in Illinois cause that sounds oddly specific and similar to the Enfield Horror creature. Thing also had three legs of sort and had silver white skin
That's pretty cool that you acknowledged that you're probably recycling stories. I've never seen anyone do that before. It's always a smarter move to make admissions like that.
I heard this story of these hunters that walked up on a deer that was repeatedly ramming a tree with its horns over and over. It looked awful and its head was covered in blood from ramming this tree over and over then they saw it just abruptly stop, stand up on it's back legs, and start walking on its back legs right into the nearby pond until its head was underwater. They told the game ranger and they got it out of the pond (it had drowned) and it turns out it had Chronic Wasting Disease.
Deer and coyotes are two creatures that I see frequently. I’ve never seen any strange deer but I have seen very strange coyotes, at least I think they are coyotes.
@Lurking Carrier I live in OH and was deer hunting on the opening morning of archery season from a ground blind a few years ago. Just before sunrise a very large dark coyote(or more likely coywolf) crossed 2 yards in front of my blind and busted me immediately and took off. If I had to guess it was a 60-70lb animal and either a very dark brown or flat black. Never seen anything like it before or since.
So, uh.. I'm Native American. We have many stories about coyotes, their meanings, and their.. variants. But coyotes are known for eating women and children, while wolves are seen as the protectors of women and children. We do have few stories of skin-walker like creatures, but not precisely how I've heard skinwalkers described. I've never seen any strange creatures apart from this one cat.
I remember reading about the malevolent spirit of the American Indians that looked like a deer and a woman. It would track and hunt down men who mistreated women, but help those who were kind to females. The second story reminded me of this folklore.
@@a123-m6n there's the deer woman, and there's deer people. The deer woman isn't one of the deer people, she's something different. . I don't know if "not deer" are deer people, or something else.
"my parents taking a pit-stop into squishy town" That description alone is possibly the most haunting and disturbing story I've ever come across. I think I felt my fight-or-flight instinct kick in from vicarious trauma. I vote we create a therapy fund for Darkness to help him cope.
Add "cost of wasted coffee" to that fund, because I spat out my coffee upon 'squishytown' slamming into my eardrums, and I don't think I'm the only one
For those who are hiding in the comments, I present to you a wholesome "It _is_ deer!" story. So it's early spring of this year. I had been dealing with a sickness (nausea, abdominal pain) for two years prior -that I still deal with,- so I've sadly been stuck indoors with minimal movement when I used to spend every decently temperatured day outside. One of these days, a day of spring where I didn't need a jacket, actualy I decided to go to the pond with my dad and sister when they went to feed the ducks and geese. In the middle of feeding we heard cries from the woods, odd cries we haven't heard before. Living in a very rural place 10 minutes from the nearest town, we knew all sorts of critters calls. It was similar to a goat, but had almost a cat fight sound in there too. I assumed it was a deer since it wasn't a predator noise or any pet's noise. All goats and dogs and chickens accounted for, and it being broad daylight and 3 of us, we quickly finished up feeding to scout out into the woods. The wailing was hard to spot and the floor of the woods was still clear of overgrowth from winter, so it was easy to overlook something that isn't standing out. We walked through the woods al the way into our neighbors yard where he was out walking his dog, also listening. He was no help, in flipflops and all, but he said he saw a doe run across his driveway earlier. My dad emerged from the woods saying it was a baby deer stuck. Me and my sister ran in and saw that there was a baby deer stuck in a steep, narrow ditch part of the creek, the flat ledge above it was cleared out and scraped up, some of the gound having blood stains on it, meaning that this baby is fresh and probably slid out of the mother and into the ditch. It didn't have the leg muscles to stand, much less climb its way out of this ditch probably just enough for a normal sized deer to clamber out of. The crevice it's stuck in is almost like this V shape of washed away land, where in the open end of the V shape you'll have to go to the closed end and use the roots across the water way like steps while hoisting yourself out with near tree branches. To get the deer you'l either need to jump down there into the various unknown trash and oilslicked water, or slide in the middle and do the splits over the deer to grab and have someone help you out. not wanting to land on a metal can or glass in slip-ons, the splits is the best option. My sister is not coordinated enough to do this, my dad is much too old. So I got to do it. I, with my atrified muscles, got to slick into a muddy hole and scoop out a freshly born (still slicked smooth with dried birth juice) baby deer with my bare hands. I sat the baby in a patch of leaves where it would blend in most and we left for the mother to return for it. That mud up my arms and chilled, mud-caked hands is something I'll always love and remember the cute little baby that made it possible. Even by pure chance. Through the summer we occasionally spotted a doe with a baby around our property, eating my mom's flowers or just passing by. We assume it's them since the same deer kinda just hang around this general area. The baby's big and strong by now, eating all our persimmons.
I've listened to so many of these stories that whenever i see a deer in the yard I'm expecting it to stand up on two legs and lunge at me rather than just being a deer 😅
I talked to one yesterday, it was walking right towards me. Eyes basically in the front of it's head. I said "I know what you are" it immediately stopped walking.. and I said "yes I'm a believer, now get out of my yard" it then looked towards the field across from my house, starter running very oddly like a horse just learning to walk or something.. then once he reached the treeline, up on two legs it went
I'm currently working on a custom painting for my friend and she wants a stag painted for the top of her stairs 😂 When it started out it did indeed look a skin walker... luckily I persevered and it is officially a deer.
One time i saw a “not deer” and ran away in fear. Later I realized it was not a “not deer” but just a regular dog, not even a “not dog” I just get spooked easily I guess.
Bro, I have literally seen these "peaceful herbivores" murder a dog. This entire mentality of "it eats plants it must be peaceful" is how people get killed thinking they can just walk up to a wild animal the same weight as the average person with sharp hooves and pointy antlers that absolutely CAN gore you.
If we were on a paradise world you could totally use that mentality. But we live on a deathworld. The only way herbivores survive in a world of carnivores is to be able to fight them off. Any animal can potentially kill you. If its even half your weight it can do serious damage.
La Gatita honestly I had a horrific nightmare of about deer attacking me in a hole in the ground after a car crash. I was 5-6 years old and it was one of my first night terrors which would eventually lead to many bouts of sleep paralysis as I got older. I got out of my childhood home four years ago and things have gotten better at night.
If you like flying creature stories than here's one for you that I read about: Sometime in the 1970s, a group of six or seven men were out hunting for geese. It was getting a little dark but they wanted to bag just one more. Suddenly, they heard what sounded like a large pair of wings beating overhead. When they looked up expecting a large bird, they were all shocked to see a woman with large bat-like wings! She was nude and covered in black fur with the reflective eyes of a cat. She flapped around for a moment staring at the hunters before darting away with a high pitched cry. The men were so startled and confused that they quickly fled back to town, many actually leaving behind their gear and the very geese they'd spent all day hunting. They reported what they saw to the police, who didn't really believe them but looked into it anyway. The police found the spot where the men had dropped their gear but the geese that had been left behind were all partially eaten and there were odd tracks all around. These tracks were long and slender and seemed to have only two talon-like toes. The police figured that what the men saw was actually a condor or other large bird but some people still weren't convinced as several of the hunters were very respected by the community and were all experienced outdoorsmen. It wasn't like them to make up a story like that or to misidentify an animal like that. Well, anyway, that's the story I read. I hope you enjoyed it.
In response to the parents bedroom comments... when I was 4 years old, we lived in a super old house that is now owned by a historical society in our area because of its age. (Built in the 1700s and added onto in the more modern era, now the addons have been torn off to preserve the history and show it as it was originally) anyhow, I thought that the boogeyman was coming through the wall beside my bed and tickling my feet. It was a ghostly figure, all green, long beard and awful, deformed face, and it was grinning the most awful grin at me and grabbing my feet. I panicked and ran to my parents bedroom, which did not have a door or any covering. I saw my dad on top of my mom, completely uncovered too... you know how this goes. I was so confused and terrified by that, I went back to face the boogeyman, and just covered my whole body and head under my blanket hoping I wouldn't die. Lol so theres my horror story in relation to the comment and yours 😅
I was actually 17 when I was assaulted with the sound of my parents. Let me explain. I was out on a date with my boyfriend and I was tired 🥱. So I came home early. Wow talk about timing if I had been a few minutes later I would have been able to live in blissful ignorance. Instead I had to hear my mom begging my dad for more. Lol eww. What made it worse is we, at the time only had one bathroom and I was desperately in need of it but to my horror they were in it!!! I had to wait until they were done with what they were doing to do my business. I should have just peed my pants. When I HEARD the coast was clear I ran to the bathroom and ran right into my dad. The look on my dads face when I quickly went into the bathroom was priceless.
if it wasn't your imagination or just a nightmare, sounds a lot like domovoi a type of spirit from slavic folklore who lives in house and protecting it and it's inhabitants, but they can be playful sometimes and do mischievous pranks
As a big cervid fan, I really enjoy these stories. I love that deer can be sweet and innocent cuties (like in that video loop put over the stories) and creepy or hiding something terrifying, like creatures disguising as deer for not so nice reasons.
Would have been a great video to end on a short lecture on CWD, or Chronic Wasting Disease, since that is probably whats going on in most of these, and the brain has just added weird details afterwards as a way to cope with the scare.
@@amberblyledge7859 Technically not a Wendigo but Wendigo inspired. Wendigo’s are Algonquin First Nations who were cannibals in life and were possessed by a evil spirit. They look like giant humanoid monsters traditionally.
OMG I have wanted to hear stories about these creatures for so long since I’d just heard little bits about their existence till now! It’s kind of hard to tell sometimes if there are just more supernatural creatures nowadays (like brand new or newer versions of old ones), or if, possibly more scarily, they’re getting bolder and expanding their own territories.
I can explain oscar Oscar was most likely a Tesuma’ke (Deer Spirit). They are very dangerous but don’t often harm humans. The Tesuma’ke protect the forest and keep it balanced. Now Tesuma’ke are made by a deer dying and their soul being rejected from Nova’i because they weren’t done yet. Oscar was probably run over and that’s the reason why his body was torn. The old lady probably died because she messed with the forest or was the cause of death for Oscar. Also the rabbits and chickens likely died because they might’ve been invasive
Oscar was most likely a part of a made up story for scarytube. Kind of weird that you and a lot of other people keep trying to equate a story made up for the likes with native stories made up to explain the world around them. But hey....whatever floats your boat I guess.
@@edmondgreen7970 It's because of similarities. That's it. All stories are drawn from either the world around us, or folklore of ancestors long passed. To not tell these stories in new ways, is to let them die out. It's tradition to keep old tales alive. Otherwise what are we other than beasts with more intelligence than most?
@@edmondgreen7970 3 reasons right now Some cryptids / folklore creatures do exist. Most of these stories are based on cryptids And the ability to tell stories should be preserved and not barrated by blagards like yourself
I have accurately see some "Not Deer". My younger brother and I where standing outside waiting for the bus. My brother was at the end of the driveway and I was walking towards him when he said "Sis look deer!" I thought "deer? No that flied is where those coyotes live." Right then I hear a kind of barking deer noise is the best was to describe it. I get to where I can see the "deer" and eminently something felt off the "deers" cocked their head to the side looking at us. The more I looked the more I felt off I got a real bad feeling when one tried steeping closer to us. I back out of their sight and made my brother follow, by the time the bus came which was only 2 minutes they were gone I haven't seen them since then and I'm glad I don't know what would have happened if we didn't see them.
The nature center story guy obviously has never been around deer at all. They almost always bob their heads up and down and will take steps towards you. The only weird thing about that story is that they followed them.
Maybe it's something that is unknown or long forgotten by most. I believe that there is much in this realm that has been hidden from us. Possibly something brought over from another place? Maybe it's late and I'm rambling 🤪
I love listening to these type of stories right before i go to sleep. It makes me feel so much more normal when i hear things like doors thumping. Which happens more lately somehow
I searched for these two days ago and now this channel with fantastic narration I've never heard of appears guess I know what I'll be listening to obsessively over the next few days.
Really? Why? We have a zillion deer in Texas but we usually have hunting season the first week in November and clear out the herd to keep the population sustainable (so they don't starve) and process all the meat. There are some huge Axis deer the got onto our land and some African Black Buck Antelope that got off the exotic game reservation onto our place and started reproducing like rabbits, and have to be culled, or they drive out the indigenous animals. They aren't dangerous though, they are really fearful of humans... what is dangerous about deer there? What kind are they?
@@christineparis5607 remember when the “beefalo” escaped? 😂😂 they could not catch it for NOTHING!!! But when they did, poor thing was soooo skinny. Thankful they took it to a reserve, big guy deserved it after all it had been through..lol
Deers are aggressive during mating season. We dont have many dangers things in the UK, even bugs (correct me if I'm wrong) but I think bees are are most dangerous insect. We dont have poisons snakes, spiders or scorpions
Here's a creepy fact. In every legend or story, there's a smidge of truth. So in a sense, there could have been a "not deer sighting" story that was 100% true. Such as a deer catching a form of rabies and becoming violent towards people, to the point it seemed almost cannibalistic towards other deer, or carnivorous to other creatures. So. Yeah.
@Not Perfect I imagine that CWD + Rabies would be a creepy zombie-deer combination. But yeah, Rabies makes animals more violent, including people. So when they catch rabies, animals often bite
I live in the forest of Tennessee I'm surrounded by miles of woods once I was sick and running a high fever we have a few white tail deer we have feed and they come around quite often I was in the backyard which borders the woods and I was talking to the deer my people told me all I remember was the deer asking me why I was in my underwear and what the hell was wrong with me I know it was the fever but it seemed so real I'll never forget it,don't remember going back inside or anything just remember talking with a talking deer to this day that was creepy as hell and it's been 15 years ago and I still remember that part of being sick lol
I had a high fever once and I saw hell. Demons, fire...whole nine yards. Fever dreams are no joke. This happened when I was like eight and I still remember every detail.
i grew up in the mountains in PA, i took it for granted seeing bears, deer, raccoons, etc almost all the time for years, maybe thats why i love these woods/ deer stories, maybe relatable in a sense
Even a normal deer can be dangerous. Their instinct is to run from threats, but if they can't, their legs are strong, their hooves sharp, and Bucks can weigh up to 300lbs. and have antlers.
Also have to throw this in : you should NOT keep certain dog breeds as farm dogs that, you know, eat the livestock. Most farmers are smarter than that. Dogs with high prey drive are nono...dog that ate or killed livestock in my childhood were not the norm and would not be tolerated.
"What these things are we may never know." SKINWALKERS WOULD BE MY FIRST GUESS. Hell, that second story("That's not a deer" by Kellyfox) actually MATCHES the descriptions of Skinwalkers going by Native American lore.
1st story, deformed deer from birth or deer that got hit a few times? I hunt and killed a buck whose lower jaw wasn't alined it only had spikes for antlers and its back legs looked like it had more joints but skinning it you could tell they were old fractures. I probably helped it out if anything.
That last story has wayyyy too many questionable incidents to be true, and that's not including a malamute only weighing 20 lbs. That just sealed the deal.
I live in country, tons of deer out here. I went outside to grab my charger from my car, im always scared to go outside without our huge, bright Flashlight bc of the things I've seen. But now, I dont go outside at night. I got my charger and heard a ping from a cell phone and and then a sqeaky laugh, I flashed the light towards the woods where I heard it, all I saw was a deer.. or not deer.
I'm currently living in Tennessee and I've seen a lot of deer, including one that leapt out in front of my dad's car (we missed it thank God), but nothing like what was featured in the stories... I wonder if maybe, just maybe, that'll change one of these seconds... if it does, I'll let you know
Never seen a not deer but I guess I've seen a not dog. The damn thing had been wailing for 3 nights straight and I got fed up and went to the window to yell at it. I was expecting a dog, instead I got something that looked like a big black husky standing on two legs. Gargeld a "IiI soooOOory" and walked back into the alley. At least it was polite, I suppose.
Also, I blame you, Darkness, for getting creepy nightmares when I go to sleep.. but I cant and won't stop listening to your videos when I go to sleep 🤣
So I have a few theories about the Not Deer. 1. They might be vectors for CWD. Allowing them to hide better. 2. I wonder if they are related to Wendigo 3. Are they angry nature spirits? You'd be surprised how many angry nature spirits there are. What I do know about them. 1. Like Skinwalkers, they are attracted to those who say their name. 2. They can go into dreams. The dicks. 3. They are becoming a lot more common very quickly. 4. They also have a physical form. This makes them a LOT more dangerous than other entities. Most entities are noncorporeal.
So not-deer are constantly increasimg in frequancy supernatural being with a phusical form. Could you please give other examples of frequent physical supernatural entities ?
Btw i am npt trolling , I am genuinely asking since you seem to have some knowledge on the subject. Btw english is not my native language sorry for spelling.
@@tommychantzis6296 As far as I know, it’s mostly the ones you already know about. Wendigo, Not Deer, Skinwalkers, perhaps the other cryptids like the Jersey Devil and the Goat Man, though I don’t usually class them in the same way. You can run into the occasional other creature, but most corporeal entities, unless highly magically inclined, are rather shy. Dangerous as always, but shy. Humans have hunted and killed most of the bold ones, the ones that stand out, or the occasional ones that are weaker. The reason you hear about Skinnies and Wendigo so often is because they are unafraid. Skinwalkers are very clever, physically, mentally, and magically inclined, and have few true weaknesses. You can deter them, but if one puts their mind to it, there’s not much you can do. Wendigo are just plain unafraid of people. They have great physical prowess, making them extremely hard to kill. They also have some magical ability, such as mimicking, and some say hypnosis or some magical fear aura. Other than fire I don’t know of a way to deter or kill them. They have amazing regenerative abilities. The worst thing is they can not, as far as I know (and I’m sure as hell not going to try), be reasoned with. If you look at the corporeal entities that are still around, you notice several common trends. Fast regeneration, mimicry on both bodily and auditory levels, and very few “normal” weaknesses. If you can see it, You are likely to die. If you can’t see it with your normal human eyes, you can make an attempt at conversation. It’s extremely funny when you genuinely ask something how it’s doing. They all make the same face. Most creatures and entities are used to fear. Staying calm, having conversations, and not feeding them with your emotions can all increase your likely hood of even a positive experience. For other creatures like Not Deer and Fleshgaits, I don’t know much. It’s hard to get reliable information, even on common creatures. Hell, I have about four nature spirits living on my farm and I know almost nothing about them. They didn’t like it when I found one of their trees and they don’t like it when other things show up. They do like me cutting down the invasive species and clearing debris though. A last word of warning. The more you learn, the more things will be attracted to you. This will eventually put you in danger. And yes, I ramble horribly. Gotta keep my guard up because the more you talk about things, the easier they can find you.
