On a high-fat diet of 30-35% of calories coming from fats as mentioned in this video, it's necessary to state: - Where the other 65-70% of calories are coming from - What types of fats we are talking about - The amount of sugars (of any type) being consumed, in what proportion relative to each meal. Regarding HFD not being "common everyday diet", perhaps this video should look into what is a "natural" diet for humans, rather than "common" these days. For over 2 million years, humans evolved eating a diet very high in natural animal fats and protein, without agriculture, eating only the occasional seasonal fruit to help with fat storage before harsh winters. Could it be that it's actually the high processed fats and excessive carbohydrates/sugars which are not mentioned in the studies, that are at the root of the health problems we see in today's society?

Yes it's needed but it's not how it went down, the plains hadnbuffalo, further south there was fruit and veg.. We adapted to our regions. No pigs or cows here until 1492. @@MrFlasher666 You don't have to eat it alone. The typical way of eating it in Japan is with hot freshly cooked white rice and raw egg. The slimy texture of the natto goes well with the sliminess of the raw egg 😅 Packaged natto usually comes with soy sauce. Some even come with mustard to further help with palatability. It was difficult for me at first but I've learnt to make it palatable. I fry a few eggs in EVOO but only briefly, so that there is a good amount of raw egg that will slowly cook from residual heat. Then I add the natto and mix it thoroughly with the partially cooked egg. Add whatever you wish. I add kimchi and Greek yogurt. That's a power meal by itself. I hope you'll find something that will work well for you.

Your information on Ketogenic diets is plagued with EXTREME BIAS and fragmented information. I've been directing Ketogenic diets for over three decades with closely monitored blood panels, and our results have yielded the polar opposite of what you report here, with much better and healthier results. Your referenced study is limited and inaccurate. Lastly, the ingestion of ANY soy product, especially soy beans, is devasting to the health and wellbeing of more than 98% of studied subjects over the past three decades. Soy is worse than wheat, which is also one of the most inflammatory and unhealthy things you can ingest. Outside of those two factors I am taking issue with, I am in full agreement with the rest of what you deliver here.

@MrArtdelgado210
@MrArtdelgado210 Месяц назад
How sick are people you are referring keto to? It's only beneficial in the short term but over time it doesn't increase lifespan, it actually decreases it, and there's enough data showing that correlation. Keto address a symptom, weight management, but not the cause, which is insulin resistance, which itself is causes by 2 factors. Low fiber food that induce elevated insulin production and the frequency of consumption. Low fiber and zero fiber foods, like processed sugars, processed carbs, and animal products induce unnatural insulin production because the lack of fiber results in this massive energy dump I to our bloodstream, all at once, as opposed to gradually throughout the day and the body thinks I better save this excess energy because in the past 300,00 years, feast and famine go hand in hand except now it never ends. It's no the sugar or processed food or animal products that kill you. Its the unnatural Insulin levels we produce in responce to consuming high energy, low fiber foods over extended periods of time that kills you. When you eat high fiber foods, lower insulin is produced, and if you allow the body 12 to 16 hours to burn ATP, it's ATP stores from previous meals, it then has room to take in the glucose from your current meal, which results in lower insulin production, which results in longer lifespans. Dont fall for divisive rhetoric or "agendas". The diets that are high in fiber and don't result in insulin spikes are usually vegan or close to it, such as the Mediterranean diet.
@danshigley6638
@danshigley6638 Месяц назад
@@MrArtdelgado210No my friend. Insulin resistance isn't caused by a lack of fiber. It is caused by frequent production of insulin. Insulin is produced to lower blood glucose. Eat in a way that keeps blood glucose low and you will become more insulin sensitive. Fats have zero insulin/ glucose impact. Protein in moderation is the same. However, if a person eats carbohydrates it is better that they are natural, unprocessed and not stripped of their natural fiber. I think people should remember that only two of the macros are essential; fats and protein. Carbs are not. But an entire life without carbs would be very boring indeed.
@zhk3689
@zhk3689 Месяц назад
@@danshigley6638"carbs are not". Carbs are found in all fruits, many veggies and grains. A hundred years ago people didn't know anything about dieting. No one ate meat, cheese and butter everyday. People ate fresh seasonal produce, whole grains, fresh meats and fish (where avaulable). Processing then meant cooking and natural pickling. Take a look at the videos from those times. You can hardly see any overweight person. Now anything one puts in a mouth (or on hair and skin) has: antibiotics, hormons, pesticides, preservatives, loads of salt, all kind of sugars, and chemicals!

Interesting, why is it that so many diabetics are going on the carnivore diet and as a result are able to get off insulin?
@MasteringDiabetes
@MasteringDiabetes Месяц назад
While that might seem like a quick fix, it's actually a pretty extreme way of eating that cuts out a ton of healthy foods like fruits, veggies, whole grains, and legumes. These foods are packed with important nutrients that our bodies need to thrive. Here's the thing - eating nothing but animal products for a long time can really up your chances of getting heart disease, some types of cancer, and other serious health problems. Not cool! Instead of going all-in on the carnivore trend, why not try adding more plant-based foods to your meals? They're loaded with fiber, vitamins, and minerals that can help keep your blood sugar in check and support your overall health. Plus, they're delicious and don't come with all the potential risks of a meat-only diet. It's a win-win!

Fast forward to 2017, and Keto catches fire. Now, Fat is good and carbs & sugar are bad 3. 2024: Looks like keto is no good either. I lost a lot of weight after I started smoking cannabis, mmj, and for the first time in a long time it felt nearly effortless. My a1c dropped from 11.6 down to 5.5. I have been trying to learn if the cannabis itself contributed, or if it was a support that helped me make positive changes over time. It definitely makes losing weight more enjoyable, but lack of support around using it can be a hindrance to success. After 4 years of causal observation , Im leaning towards the impact stress has on metabolic health which leads to mental and physical illnesses. My most recent a1c 5.4 and have mostly maintained the weight loss. Still working on optimizing my situation and health.

@MasteringDiabetes
@MasteringDiabetes Месяц назад
While the concept of antinutrients like oxalates and phytates and their potential impact on nutrient absorption has been a topic of discussion, current scientific evidence suggests that the term "antinutrients" may be a bit of a misnomer. The notion that these compounds are inherently harmful or that they negate the benefits of other beneficial compounds like polyphenols is not supported by research. In reality, the relationship between various plant compounds and their effects on human health is complex and multifaceted. Many of the so-called antinutrients have been found to offer potential health benefits when consumed as part of a balanced diet. For example, phytates and oxalates have demonstrated antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which may contribute to the prevention of certain chronic diseases.

Sorry for spoiling the party but the best way to optimise mitochondrial health is to avoid vegetables (toxic oxalates, pesticides, etc.) and ESPECIALLY soy, which happens to be one of the most pesticide laden foods around such as coffee, bananas, etc. Reduce all sugar and carb consumption to only one hour prior to, during and after exercise. Eat beef, eggs, animal fats, real salt such as Himalayan or Celtic sea salt, dairy products such as raw milk, butter, organic cheeses, and most importantly, EXERCISE. Why? Because performing exercises that raise your heart rate to an RPE of 3-4 or what is known as “zone 2” switches on numerous mechanisms that work to PROLIFERATE new mitochondria. Brisk walking, easy cycling, easy jogging, tennis, swimming, you name it..any daily aerobic exercise will cause the proliferation of new mitochondria (it’s an energy demand & supply issue). Add one HIIT or aerobic workout with intervals that work one’s VO2 fitness, and all those new mitochondria will be trained to function at their best like having trillions of cylinders firing at full power in your body. So to recap, diet is critical as a starter. No process foods or seed/vegetable oils, ZERO. Carbs and sugars consumed only around and during exercise. Exercise 3 times a week for 30min or more at zone 2 and once a week at zone 4 (vo2max range) and not only will you have millions of new mitochondrial engines in your body, you will also be ensuring that they will all be firing optimally from the VO2 training and nourishing diet. There is no way of getting around this exercise protocol for mitochondrial health, which is supported by a nutrient-dense Whole Foods diet eaten mostly at HOME like your grandparents did. Eating out should rarely go above 25% of your entire week’s diet. Curious people can research this on the internet or watch a plethora of videos on RU-vid on this topic. Thanks & good luck ❤
@MasteringDiabetes
@MasteringDiabetes Месяц назад
I understand your perspective, but I disagree with some of the points you've made. While you're right that exercise and a balanced diet are crucial for mitochondrial health, completely avoiding vegetables and soy is not be the best approach. Vegetables are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that work together to support overall health and well-being. These nutrients help protect our cells from oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and promote the proper functioning of our mitochondria. Dismissing vegetables as "toxic" due to the presence of oxalates or pesticides is an oversimplification and fails to recognize the numerous benefits they provide. The recommendation to consume beef, eggs, and animal fats for mitochondrial health is concerning, given the well-established link between high intakes of saturated fat and animal products with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. Numerous studies have shown that diets rich in red and processed meats, as well as foods high in saturated fats, contribute to the development of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular problems (check your APOB and Cholesterol) On the other hand, plant-based diets that emphasize whole foods, including soy products, have been associated with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Soy, in particular, is a nutrient-dense food that provides high-quality protein, fiber, and various phytochemicals that can offer health benefits when consumed as part of a balanced diet. While I agree that exercise is crucial for mitochondrial health and overall well-being, the suggestion that carbs and sugars should only be consumed around exercise is not backed by scientific evidence. Complex carbohydrates from whole plant foods can provide sustained energy throughout the day and support various bodily functions. Diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and other plant-based foods, combined with regular exercise, is the best approach to support mitochondrial health and overall well-being. The notion that we should avoid vegetables and soy while focusing on animal products is not only misguided but also potentially harmful in the long run.

I was type two diabetic and blood sugar issues since I was really young, now 56. I did my own test and got the best bloodwork I've ever had and what finally gave me normal bloodwork was Keto bordering on Carnivore. Mostly red meat including lots of organ meats and only a small number of veggies and seeds. Lots of polyphenols from teas with cloves, cinnamon. I also had a food allergy test to make sure I wasn't eating anything that was complicating things, and found that I had many food reactions, so I avoided them. Have not had a problem with any blood sugar or energy ever since. I was also fighting other health issues while doing this and it helped me with other conditions as well. My doc said my A1C was the lowest he had ever seen and perhaps as low as the test could go. All other markers were perfect, and I've never had a good blood test since I was pre-teen. I would consider my diet higher in fat now, and it used to be very low fat when I was diabetic, so I am going to stick with my diet since all markers are perfect. Always take these studies with a grain of salt and work with your doctor's and look at your own markers and what is working for you. Because in my case, if I followed this advice I would not be doing well because I have a huge reaction to soy and chocolate.

There was actually a study made many years ago where they pinpointed three main gut types, non being better than the other on the whole but they were good at processing different kinds of food. does the making of ATP with fatty acids, explain why the large amounts of chia or flax recommended by Dr Goldner explain some of her results? including reducing A1c

Hi Cyrus, question about chia & flax seeds. Dr Brooke Goldner is have huge success with her clients who have auto immune diseases, arthritis & several other diseases using cruciferous vegetables, water, & 1/2 cup chia or flax seeds. You can also have Avocados if you get the correct amount of cruciferous vegetables in your daily diet. Do you think healing these diseases might not just be avoiding fats but also something else? How to explain her success with so much fat 🤷🏻‍♀️
@dustinbarrington6645
@dustinbarrington6645 Месяц назад
I’ve wondered the exact same thing.
@MasteringDiabetes
@MasteringDiabetes Месяц назад
Thanks for your question. While I respect Dr. Goldner's work and the success she's had with her clients, I want to emphasize the importance of a truly low-fat, plant-based, whole-food diet for optimal health outcomes. I believe that even small increases in dietary fat intake can lead to reduced mitochondrial function, increased inflammation, and insulin resistance. These factors can contribute to the development and progression of chronic diseases, including diabetes. While the success of Dr. Goldner's approach may be attributed to factors such as the nutrient density of cruciferous vegetables, the elimination of trigger foods, and the overall dietary pattern, I maintain that a truly low-fat, plant-based, whole-food diet is the most effective way to promote insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and optimize health outcomes. In my experience, focusing on minimally processed, whole plant foods while keeping fat intake low has been the key to achieving optimal results for those looking to manage diabetes and improve their overall health.

She doesn't say lots of fat for all, omega 3 is anti inflammatory and avocado is a preference in her diet. Dr. Esselstyn recommends no fat for clogged arteries but once you recover, try it and see. I think it's mostly omega 9, which is neutral.

Considering the comprehensive nutritional profile and bioavailability of essential nutrients directly impacting mitochondrial function, ruminant products might be the better choice for the following reasons:Key Nutritional Benefits of Ruminant ProductsHigh Bioavailability of B Vitamins:Ruminant products, especially meat and liver, are rich in B vitamins such as B2 (riboflavin), B6 (pyridoxine), and B12 (cobalamin). These vitamins are essential cofactors in mitochondrial energy metabolism, particularly in the Krebs cycle and electron transport chain [❞] [❞].Omega-3 Fatty Acids:Ruminant meats and dairy products contain high levels of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA and DHA. These fatty acids enhance mitochondrial membrane fluidity and function, improving the efficiency of the electron transport chain and reducing oxidative stress [❞].Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10):Naturally found in beef, CoQ10 is a vital component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, facilitating ATP production and protecting against oxidative damage [❞].Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA):CLA in ruminant products has been shown to promote mitochondrial biogenesis and enhance metabolic function by modulating gene expression related to energy metabolism [❞].Essential Amino Acids:Ruminant products provide all essential amino acids, such as leucine, which is crucial for activating the mTOR pathway involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and protein synthesis [❞].
@MasteringDiabetes
@MasteringDiabetes Месяц назад
While ruminant products have their nutritional benefits, it's important to note that plant-based sources can also provide many of the essential nutrients mentioned above, making them a viable option for supporting mitochondrial function. Here are some arguments in favor of plant-based sources: - B Vitamins: many plant-based foods, such as leafy greens, legumes, and whole grains, also contain significant amounts of these vitamins. For example, nutritional yeast is an excellent plant-based source of B12. - Omega-3 Fatty Acids: While EPA and DHA are primarily found in animal products, plant-based sources like flaxseeds, chia seeds, and walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which can be converted to EPA and DHA in the body, albeit at a lower efficiency. - Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): Although CoQ10 is naturally found in beef, it is also present in plant-based sources such as spinach, broccoli, and legumes. Additionally, the body can synthesize CoQ10 from the amino acid tyrosine. - Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA): some studies suggest that certain plant-based foods like white button mushrooms may also contain CLA or have similar beneficial effects on mitochondrial function. - Essential Amino Acids: Plant-based sources can provide all essential amino acids when consumed in a varied and well-balanced diet. For example, combining legumes with whole grains ensures a complete amino acid profile. Additionally, ruminant products, especially fatty cuts of meat and full-fat dairy, are high in saturated fats. Numerous studies have linked high intake of saturated fats to an increased risk of heart disease, as they can raise levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in the blood. Elevated LDL cholesterol can contribute to the buildup of plaque in the arteries, leading to atherosclerosis and increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes. In contrast, a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet is typically very low in saturated fats and rich in fiber, complex carbohydrates, and beneficial plant compounds. This type of diet emphasizes whole, minimally processed plant foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes while limiting or avoiding added oils, sugars, and processed foods. Studies have shown that adopting a low-fat, whole-food, plant-based diet can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering LDL cholesterol levels, reducing inflammation, and improving overall cardiovascular health. The fiber and complex carbohydrates in whole plant foods help to regulate blood sugar levels and promote a healthy gut microbiome, while the antioxidants and phytochemicals found in these foods protect against oxidative stress and chronic diseases.

Check the: Quality: Look for high-quality, third-party tested products to ensure purity and minimize the risk of contaminants. Amino acid profile: Choosing a powder that combines different plant proteins can help provide a more complete amino acid profile. Additives: Be mindful of added sugars, artificial sweeteners, oils, or other fillers in some protein powder products. Opt for products with minimal, recognizable ingredients. Always better whole foods.
