We've talked about most of these garden upgrades in other videos, but now it's time to put them all together and explore 4 of our favorite garden projects.
From painting our greenhouse to ripping out a tired hedge, these outdoor projects have made our garden more enjoyable and work better for our family.

Fairy lights for sure! I think I've finally found some (solar powered) that will work with the limited amount of solar we actually get during the non-summer months. Hope so at least 😅

The black accents in the garden are such a great idea and especially the fence contrasts the green ( and the colors of the blooms) so beautifully 💚 amazing to see the before shot of your garden!

Love the black paint! I always lean to white paint but the black paint looks so great! We have a wisteria for 34 years now. It's a lot of work to keep it under control but it is magnificent when it blooms! Thanks for the video! 😊

I love the black accents! Especially on the greenhouse - itgives it kind of a vintage/ dark academia feeling... I like that! I hope the "prunus laurocerasus" and the "Buddleja davidii" I think I saw in your otherwise lovely garden are not invasive neophytes for denmark! They are in Switzerland and Germany. If they are, please consider replacing them. Otherwise - as I said - wonderful lovely garden with nice ideas for small gardens!

Sometimes it's the little things which have the most impact. We had our walkway and steps re paved with slabs 2 years ago. I've always been really disappointed with the raw edge. We top up the woodchip, but naturally it sinks and the edge is revealed again. This week I bought sone sleepers placed them about 6 inches away from the slab at the same level and back filled the gap with topsoil and planted in creeping thyme. We can still step out easily onto the garden but now it looks finished. I can't wait until the thyme fills in! I agree the black elements in the garden look classy and help to make everything else "pop"

Beautiful design changes ! My home and all outdoor wooden structures are stained very dark chocolate type brown for the 25 years or so. I've stained all outdoor benches, fencing, trellis's black over the past couple of years and as you, I LOVE it. The gardens and vibrant botanicals have been given an incredible backdrop. In some ways as a theatrical backdrop, with intention the the blossoms and foliage can take "center stage". I find that black also provides a lovely visual calm, a Zen scape of sorts...... Continued delights your family in the beauty of all seasons...... Wonderful ! Smiles to you from a fellow habitat lover that lives at Lake Tahoe

Wow, never heard of a raccoon dog before. Love the black fence and glass house. Good idea painting it to save costs. Also, seriously impressed that fence was built by hand.

Thanks for watching. The Racoon dog is intense, right? And quite large. It's not native to Denmark... so we have to call animal control when it does come (always in early spring). And yes... that fence was a labor of love with Lars's dad providing the real know-how... and we 3 just doing what we're told. haha

Racoon dogs originate in China. They are farmed for their fur - are kept in very tight wire cages until they are killed. I advise caution if you decide to investigate further - it’s extremely distressing.

I really enjoyed this video, thank you. I garden in Southern England and in our first lockdown my wonderful husband painted all of our fences a dark grey colour - it's made a massive difference and we wish we'd done it earlier! I also have a hedge on one side that I would like to remove but am cautious to do so as hedges are much better for wildlife than fences are. Perhaps you could put up some 'bug hotels' and maybe bird boxes onto your fence - you could paint them black :) - for all the wildlife that need homes, especially in the winter time. Thanks again. :) PS I love cozy too; especially in Northern European winters :)

That's a great idea with the bird boxes and bug hotels painted black! We have those hanging in our tree... and on our brick wall (the one with wisteria) and the other side of the garden is a fence covered in ivy. And i know exactly what you mean with 'wish we had done it sooner!'... a little change makes a HUGE difference 🥰 Greetings from Denmark!

Slowly making my way through your videos .They are so good that I keep getting distracted from doing my own garden! Black paint definitely makes the plants "pop". Lots of people here in England have started using it. Your Wisteria is great and looks really established. I was surprised to hear how young it is.

Great video. My sheds and fences (I'm in the UK) are painted black - I love how greenery and terracotta pots look against it. Such a good idea to paint the greenhouse, it looks so much more stylish. I think though that I love the pergola best, I would so enjoy being able to eat outside in all weathers! So jealous of your rocks too!! Take care

Surprised that you're surprised that black paint is used in Sweden and Denmark for summer houses. Black attracts heat, so will keep wooden structures warmer.

Do take it 🥰. It made a huge difference to the overall vibe of the garden - and it saved us from buying a new one. We used the cheapest spray paint for metal, too. An easy makeover in just a weekend 🖤.

'Hugge' might translate to 'nook' in English. In Afrikaans it would be 'hoekie'... 😬 The black makes such a difference. Usually a very stark colour, but it really works in your garden space. And looks very stylish! A wise choice indeed. 👏👏👏

Hoekie... that's a very nice looking word... altho I wouldn't dare try and pronounce it! Hygge is a crazy concept here... anything from a thing to a feeling can be 'hygge'. For example, a night at the movies can be hygge. So can a pancake with blueberry syrup 😅. So can a song on the radio. Crazy stuff.

I LOVE them all! I can't decide, but I really LOVE the black. I would not have thought to use black the way you did, but I'm in LOVE! I'm thinking about using black in my garden (that I don't have yet--I'm in the design phase... just moved in not long ago). What an inspiration. What size is your garden area?

Black is a big 'summer' color here in the nordics -- you see a lot of summer houses painted black, too. Our garden is quite small (another great reason to use black as it kinda disappears) ... it's 260 m2. And it's closed on all sides - a wall in the back, and fences on both sides, our house on the 4th side. Super exciting that you get to plan and start from scratch!

And thank you for sharing your concern. 💚You are very correct about paint's toxicity - fortunately, we have no edibles in our garden and we let the building air out for a week after painting before closing it up with the glass again. But you are right, covering the soil is a great tip for anyone looking to do a similar project.

Thanks for watching 🥰. The back of the greenhouse is E, meaning the front door faces W. So the whole greenhouse gets wonderful sun all year long (not so much during our short days in the winter… but otherwise so).

Hmmm... are you talking about the salvia virids? Would like to know what did you use to fill in the gaps between your stone bed edge? Dirt, small gravel or other adhesive sand? Thank you

We used crushed stone in between the larger rocks - we have used sand, too. We added the crushed stone in July because we liked the darker look.

😅 It’s a raccoon dog. Raccoon dogs have paws like a dog, while a raccoon has dexterous paws that allow it to pick up and eat food. Raccoon dogs are heavier than raccoons, but raccoons are usually longer and taller than raccoon dogs. (And we don’t have raccoons in Denmark - shouldn’t have raccoon dogs, either). Hope that helps 🤓
