I would say the biggest motivation to leave my state is oppressive gun laws, liberal policies, and cooky governors. I'm not at a place where I can move, and it wouldn't necessarily be TN, but its nice to see some other states. But, yeah having out of staters driving up home prices would be annoying for sure. I can't say I would like that either.

No offense to all of you, but why are you assuming they are "progressives" & have intentions of creating the very things they are running from? An outsider can't want to be around folks with similar values, moral compass, appreciation of the outdoors, small town appeal? You wouldn't want to know the demographic & brutality they are leaving...you'd actually consider them a refugee if you knew the true stories. God Bless.
@rollinstone1969
@rollinstone1969 2 года назад
@@ItsTimeMichael no one is saying progressives but that is happing on a big scale it’s just the fact of farmland disappearing (not by their fault) and people moving in here are paying these god awful high prices that trust me when I tell you politicians in small towns are just as crooked as the rest. They just love to raise taxes to push out the farmers because the land is worth more with a house on it. I’ve seen all this before.
@ItsTimeMichael
@ItsTimeMichael 2 года назад
@@rollinstone1969 I appreciate your honesty. I am very sorry it's happening. There's a major reshuffling of the deck going on with society's subcultures converging & folks who can afford it are just leaving for places down south or a mountain time zone state to escape violent crime, gangs & schools that no longer resemble that of a few years ago. Problem is this has been many years, decades in the making, but tgey were blind to it until covid shutdown. We have the issues of shrinking farmland too in upstate NY/Finger Lakes region where I reside. The kids don't want to continue the family biz of 70+ yrs in some cases. The property goes up for sale & zoned as such for perhaps a decade or more without a buyer until recently...towns desperate for property/school tax revenue. Now they are rezoned for "affordable housing". The millenials & Gen Z's want to be keyboard warriors...no dirt under their nails, but could care less about a pumpkin farm or apple orchard as a sense of pride & family legacy. They claim to love the planet, yet have never even done as much as bait a hook, cast, & eat the catch of the day. Thanks for sharing your justified concern & unfortunate reality in your area.
@user-cf9np9cy8q
@user-cf9np9cy8q Год назад
That’s right. Here in the south we’ve always been happy but now we’re being uprooted by people with money wanting to buy our small towns. To the highest bidder will go our peaceful way of life, our land where our history is, our hearts. Now we know how the Indians felt. Northerners don’t care who they run out or what hardships they cause people as long as they find a paradise

We loved where we lived because we still had the amenities of a town feel and still had farms and cattle near by. Fast forward 25 years later-greedy land developers came in and ran off the farmers. 😢 We are now surrounded by more houses, apartments, pot dispensaries, etc. The price of homes are starting at $500,000! It makes us sick! 🤢 Colorado has become so liberal that Christian teaching and values barely exist. So yes, we ARE one of the few who DO want to be part of a wonderful community.

We’ll it’s our generational homes and land we’ve lived in peace and poverty here for over 160 years. We would rather continue poor than to lose our way of life. And yes it is happening and we don’t have money to keep up with the out of staters that run here and make it very trying for us to keep up with cost of living that used to be easy for us. Well, watching your video pointed out to me that I want it all. I want a quiet place in the country, with acreage, city/county utilities, but fairly close to a supermarket, mall, and plenty of restaurants, within reason, anyway. I guess that’s why I’m still stuck up north. Too old to settle for less.

awesome video and information. I currently reside in the 3rd worse state in America (thanks to Chicago) Illinois. i am looking to move to east TN in the near future. I love, love, love the smokies and go there multiple times a year. My goal is to retire there, but i have been looking around your area as well, i am not sure how far from the GSMNP those areas are you mentioned. i already live in a rural area on 32 acres and would like to retire in an area similar to my own. I do love the availability of water and streams like the smokies. any suggestions? at this point i am open to look at all my options.

Lol! Just posted about living in Chicago and hating living there even thought I always had work and great pay. The winters were horrific and people are rude and insulting. So I moved back home to be in the mountains and have lived in abject poverty even while working 80 hours a week trying to get ahead. I guess you just need to choose what is important to you.

I also work in healthcare. I am only 4 years from early retirement with a federal job. I can take my health insurance with me and I have no real debt. I still plan on working part time but no more healthcare 38 years is plenty! Also I can see patients virtually even longer if I so choose so I think my retirement is pretty solid. There are always pros and cons! I can live modestly which helps.

LOL!!! Just posted the earlier reply, and my dog started barking. Went toward her and noticed her jumping around something in the yard. When I got closer I noticed a snake striking at her. I could tell right away that is was a black racer, so I shooed her away and grabbed it and put in under my compost bin. 3 hours later, my dog barks on the other side of the creek, and there is another one almost twice the size. So I grabbed that one too. Some snakes are good to have around. I have moles I would like to get rid of, and nothing beats snakes for getting rid of rodents.

Sorry, lived in Chicago for 23 years and wanted to retire here where I grew up in the beautiful mountains, but now all I am flooded with on a daily basis is hatred, bigotry and twisted religion to support violence and the right for the rich to own the poor. This is a "right to work" state which means that employees have no rights and employers will move to Mexico before allowing anyone to have a decent living. There are good hardworking people here they just don't understand how they have been duped into supporting their own destruction. If you hate women, gays, or everyone who isn't white and Christian, then ya, you just might love it here. If you have empathy for your fellow humans, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

@@LivinginJohnsonCityTennessee I work in JC at a great progressive company. My boss loves me, but that is because I leave my politics at the door. The place I worked at before was a large company in Morristown. The company was great, but the employees were hateful and ignorant. There were a couple of gay people who were hired, but the other employees made sure they knew how hated they were from the moment they walked in. If you are a fox news watcher you will see this as a great place with great people. If you aren't, you are the enemy. I grew up with my grandparents, and they never locked their front door. I used to romanticize about how warm and giving the people are here, but since trump has infected their minds all they think about are are guns, killing, and hatred. But of course they are so happy and cordial with each other as they discuss how ignorant science and math are with each other. I have 6 acres, two houses with a sweet stream running down the middle of the property. I built an arched bridge so I can mow both sides easily. My Dad has lived here his whole life, and I want to be with him for his last few years. I thank the stars he hasn't gone the way of everyone else. But as soon as he is gone, I am sure I will be too. I would love to live here till I die, but not with so much hatred proudly being displayed on every bumper and even on church signs. How respectful of women's rights do you think the people are here? Violently against them. I stopped and took on a preacher and 20 others who were attacking women trying to go to a woman's healthcare clinic in Bristol. The bible absolutely demands that babies are aborted, and I pointed it out to the attackers, and even though they could see in black and white that was the truth, it still didn't matter because it is still necessary to control all women to maintain the patriarchy. I know you know that what I am saying is absolutely true. It is good to live your home, and be caring and giving with your neighbors. But those days are burning down and being replaced with hatred and violence. This isn't a bad apple. It is a cancer.
