Oh I totally agree history is so important it's how we got here it's a story of how we developed we still need to stop trying to remove it and forget what it was like we need to learn from it ❤️
Prior to watching your video, I would have said that Paris, Tennessee was most famous for having been mentioned in the George Jones and Tammy Wynette hit "We're Not the Jet Set".
You gotta come to East Tennessee, Jonesborough. It’s the oldest and prettiest town in Tennessee. Lots of History. You won’t want to leave! Enjoy all your videos!
saw a video yesterday of a woman 70 year old living in her car, one of those New England States, she gets 2K a month cannot find a place to live, in none of the states around her, She should move to a place like this, know it is not where she wants to live but she would have a roof over her head. I get about 2k a month in SSDI and Pension, I would move to a place like this before I live in a car
There's 330+ million living here in America. Encouraging the population to move to cheaper areas IS causing this problem. The Great Migration needs to stop, especially Californians, New Yorkers and other city dwellers. We all can't move at once since the total population isn't that of the 1600s. Building new homes and apartments has ruined my childhood town, and it's not for the better. It has brought in filth from the city and exported it here...
I'm 49 ssdi. Have stage 2 copd I get 2100 from ssdi and 1051 from my union retirement after 20 years in teamsters that's all I get. Luckily my wife has good job I couldn't make it on my own here in California. Commiefornia
I’d love to live in Yuma, AZ in RV in winter and go up in elevation in summer to cool off. I’m tired of RE taxes, high utility bills, and high humidity and heating bills year around.
@suzanneschulz1905 they cut it a lot of sense. I had to retire early. I had 24 years in had to stop working because of Parkinson's diease only get about 500 a month from I if I could had work 6 more years got my full pension. It would had been 1100. Get 1300 from SSDi and 200 a month form a mortgage that I carry on 2 acres for the next 3 years going to sell 2 more acres got 35 trying to sell a 5 acre parcel for all cash but the real estate market is bad now
Wow, it is beautiful there in Tennessee. Thanks for capturing this honest look at US States! So well preserved some of those downtowns. Love the theatres you focus on, such a big part of history! Great videos, thanks!
Thank You so much for the Walk around of My beautiful downtown McKenzie TN!! Hope everyone enjoyed and there's so much more to see! We appreciate our neighbors as well.... Great Communities!! .. But there's no place like home! Again, Thank You!
You gotta come to East Tennessee, I live in Eastern Tennessee in Scott County Tennessee exactly! Come on by and visit! Home of the Big Southfork park beautiful river!
As a Plateau Tennessean, I've never visited Union City in Obion (oh-bi-ann) County . Thank you for showing the NW nook where Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Tennessee collide. Give me the high country.
Paris Tennessee Court house and Court room was the site chosen by Bing Crosby for the production of the movie Walking Tall a true story of legendary crime fighting sheriff Bufo
Very nice tour of some quiet TN towns. I enjoy that you show us the old theaters. Also like that some places were done up for Christmas. I've watched a lot of your videos at this point and it strikes me that when you read the low numbers for median incomes, $650 or $675 per week per household, that these numbers are gross income. So what they actually have to work with is even less than that! I do understand that housing costs are significantly less than the national average usually, but a lot of other prices are similar across the country (Walmart, Amazon, drug store chains, etc). I assume, particularly in towns with one or two universities, there are other amenities that you don't show like Walmart, fast food places, strip malls, etc to accommodate the thousands of students?
Awesome video as usual 👍 Quite the increase in bitrate and also 60 fps. Looks like the motion blur issue is fixed too, well done. Always wanna enjoy your videos in the best possible way 😊
You should come over farther into East Tennessee it’s the cleanest and prettiest state I ever ever seen. I’m in a small but booming town of Whitwell nestled I between the Cumberland mountains. Come on over !!
Loved the Confederate battle flag in the cemetery . I remember when the flag passed by and the band struck up Dixie at every game . We all stood up , cheered , and gave our best rebel yell . Now of course the flag don`t wave , Dixie`s not played and I miss them both .
Downtown is where the polic station is and you were right by the station. Its not a horrible town in union city. Please come back and visit again and i would love to show you around and give you a glimpse of the local life honestly.
Right? There's something different about a lot of small Texas towns. They're so trashy. Like people don't take pride in their town, which is odd because of all the hyped up Texas "pride".
Wonderful presentation,Joe, on Paris, specially your tone. Other Tennessee towns are appears to be not in dying shape. Simple and quite.Look forward for more of Kentucky.Happy journey.
My so many going back grandfather's fought with Patrick Henry. He was a bartender in Conover Virginia. My ancestors have a grave yard an church there that still stands.
My family is from Henry County, Tn. Ive been there. PARIS is a beautiful town. plenty of history. My familys graves were moved from Model, Tn, when Kentucky lake was formed by the Corp of Engineers. Town was flooded over when the lake was formed. Its been like 30-35 yrs since Ive been there. Family cemetery was moved not far from Paris. Ive been to it prior. Thanks for showing me this town again.
Very solid video this time around. Some of those income numbers may be affected by the colleges in some of the locations there, but they all look like great little college towns.
Yet another Paris! They have a very cool Eiffel Tower replica! McKenzie... Looks like a fire-damaged 🔥building in town @12:53. Also damaged the building to the left with the fake facade, now a mural. ... otherwise - that must be the place! ...Martin: Looks quaint & "normal"... Union City typical also - gawd, X'mas music SOS - after 70-some years it gets old! - love it when it stops after New Years! 🎆Police must be bored there - maybe too many for that town.... It seems Nicole seldom travels through the day with you anymore but she's there come dinnertime! No dinner that night? Hope she's OK! 🤩
Paris Tennessee at one time in the 30-50s was known as little Chicago due to crime and murders. Its heyday was 1920s. Also was home to Judge Julian Guinn one hell of a tough Judge.
Love your videos. As as European person, even after ten of episodes I am still in schock how downtowns are barely developed and empty (no people at all, only a few in cars) comparing to Europe. The only thing which beat Europe are beautiful huge houses for the price of an apartment here. On average 100k$ for I don't know 200, 300, 400 m2? Crazy. Europe is so poor and heavly taxed.
"Europe is so poor and heavily taxed" Have you been watching the videos he puts out? I've been to Europe, and it's much wealthier compared to some of the towns he's shown in the videos. And don't be fooled into thinking there's little tax in America. Tennessee (the state portrayed in this video) has a minimum 7% sales tax that can reach as high as 10%! when you add on the local taxes. Imagine paying 10% on something you buy, plus not get adequate social services in return. At least that doesn't happen in most of Europe
Your videos with statistics provided can be used as a guide for making preliminary decisions where to move in and where to travel to see authentic places.
Love the videos, as a person that has not been to the US its good to around. Can I ask, do you always arrive early or at a very quite time? Just that there hardly ever seems to be anyone at the main town centers or in fact anywhere. In the UK most towns are always busy with people walking around shopping etc.
Thanks , I wonder if the guy that invented the garbage cans got 10 cent for each one would be worth a lot of money as we have the same for green bin and garbage in Canada LOL
Tenn doesn't have sales tax on food which is wonderful. I love the older homes in these towns which have been kept up. In Paris, I noticed that many other downtown buildings had the same arches as the courthouse. That's either by design maybe because the same person designed them. Maybe not but a nice unifying touch. Good video. Thanks.
Love the video but FYI Paris is not a rarely seen town. We have a HUGE tourist movement in this town. We've had a country song written about us and even comedian Tom Sagura put us in his act.
We are a family of five living like royalty on 3500 a month in the Philippines. Wife even has a full time maid . One person living on $1200 per Month can live really well here . In the USA that level of income probably means poverty and homelessness
Like your architecture lessons. In the county courthouse, I wonder about the six center arches (3:20). I suspect they were originally windows that were bricked over. An unfortunate blemish upon an otherwise handsome building.
Omg so sick of hearing about politics i just need a break from it i know we have important issues just need to get away for a day (or two lol ) another great video TY
Ah Tenessee at last! I travelled around the states 30 ish years ago, didnt get to see all of it obviously its kinda a big place 😂, speaking as a European i loved most of the USA, didnt think much of New York, Chicago, LA and and most of California ( beautiful but full of stupid people) , didnt think much of Maine (to expensive), maybe the cities arent the best, ok for a quick visit, like Las Vegas ( one week n your broke if you arent careful) Loved Florida Lousiana and Texas, but Tenesee you could go in a cafe or bar on your own and make friends, people would invite you to barbecues etc, its close between Texas and Tenesee for the most beautiful woman 🤔 but Tenesee edged it for me! Im gonna retire soon and may come and do another monster road trip, the southern states are the 'real' America for me, where the greatest constitution on earth was forged! Tenesee or Florida are top of my list, then Texas, so I really love your vlogs, thank you
You are so right about the southern states. Here is where people find friendly folks who will chat in grocery stores, invite you for a drink and make you feel welcome. Do your research before moving to a town. All aren't good. Like my town, the utilities are way to high because of a monopoly. Taxes are higher from one county to another.
Trust me he was there probably early in the morning because there are people in downtown Paris I guarantee you I have resided in the Paris area for 40 years lol
@@monsterglo It’s not just Paris it’s where ever Joe goes don’t get me wrong I love his videos but I have seen him in towns where he said it was 11 o’clock in the morning and seen clock towers in some videos showing it’s mid-afternoon and the streets are still deserted.
@@peterfowler4818 I wouldn't welcome some of the heat 😊 , fortunately it is not cold really yet here in Tennessee but come about February is when we can actually see some cool temperatures even down into the low teens, thankfully snow is very light ❤️
A great ride through some of the nether regions of Tennessee...I see even with the new racial awareness they still cling to the Confederacy, also some nice theatres. Thanks Joe & Nic
We will always love the old battle flag . The folks that had this flag removed are the same human garbage that take a knee when the National anthem is played .
@@TinkerTailor4303a history of losers + most of the monuments aren’t historical in any manner, they were built decades after the civil war had ended by groups like The Daughters of The Confederacy to intimidate black people and minorities
As a life long resident of Tennessee I’m in full agreement with your comments. We take pride in our state and even with a lower per capital income, we take care of what we have worked hard to earn…love your videos…keep it up!!!
The good thing about these towns is that there are no drug addicts lying all over the pavements and no tents with all the garbage littering the place. Also no graffiti and tagging everywhere.
👍Thanks, Joe, with your gently-intoned voice, light sense of humour, and calm and urbane delivery -- this presentation of Paris Tennessee and subsequent towns is very peace-inducing and therapeutic on the soul. 👍
I live in and grew up in mckenzie. It's hard to find housing, and there's nothing here unless you're a college student or retired. Dr's are in other towns as well as most shopping and towns roll up just after dark. We love our rebels, and they just had a game for state. The caboose is used as a consession stand in the summer for the splash pad behind it. The mckenzie bank you found is now our library. The park with the gazebo honors our veterans with all the plaques everywhere, and the theater is still in operation. the cardboard guy was the man who owned the theater . Thank-you for visiting us.
I remember when McKenzie was a happening town, if Bethel University wasn't there I believe it would be a ghost town 😥 so sad because the residents are super nice people ❤❤
