I used to have the same issue coz honestly I was not paying attention, but now I put oil on my wet hair before I start blow drying with the Ionic blow dryer. It helps because I get to apply less heat when blow drying but your hair is not dry compared to when I used to dry the hair and apply oil after.

Girl, high porosity hair can be such a struggle... I feel like when a lot of people attribute their breaking/frizzy/dry/unmanageable hair to their curl type, they should really be attributing it to their porosity. I've been natural for 8 years and I didn't realize that I was high porosity until last year. One thing that has been a LIFESAVER for my hair is manually squeezing out my deep conditioners and rinsing with a mix of ice-cold water + aloe vera juice + apple cider vinegar. It makes my hair shiny (which you know, high porosity never really is) dark and strong!

Interesting, when I used cold water to rinse my conditioner I have realized my hair holds more moisture and have shine... lately I’ve been rinsing with warm water since I do my wash n go in the shower, but I’m realizing that’s not going to work... tired of my hair looking dry and frizzy !
@marleyhill34
@marleyhill34 3 года назад
@@sakariyasmine4014 Wash and go's are the worst style for high porosity. My trichologists stay that when you twist, finger coil or French braid the hair, it holds more moisture. I've never seen my trichologists in a wash and go. It's finger coils, French roll or 2 French braids. And they have type 3 hair which isn't as dry as type 4!

I have high porosity, medium density, fine, type 4a hair. It’s very frizzy. It’s not a fan of clumping. I do wash and goes all the time with great success. My tricks are that I cannot do them in the shower. Not only does the hot water and steam create an issue with the frizz in the hair and keep it clumping ...but also with high porosity hair, if the hair shaft is full of water it cannot be full of product. The water will quickly evaporate and the products will never have penetrated or adhered to the shaft. To keep my wash and go defined and moisturized, I need my hair to be full of aloe vera gel, leave in conditioner and glycerin (not water). Then I put a very thick layer of flaxseed gel and castor oil on top. I let my hair dry while it’s banded in a few ponytails so that helps to keep more moisture in and helps me stretch my hair without having to manipulate it under a dryer or something. I also Finger coil the frizzier sections to help them stay defined and clumped and that helps to maintain moisture in those areas better.

I have naturally high porosity hair. Ive been natural most of my childhood and the past 10 yrs of my adult life. I started using aloe gel and juice to seal my hair after wash... its been a game changer! Also castor oil which i started using religiously back when i first started transitioning ages ago. It smooths the cuticle and adds good weight because i have fine strands. The best gel ever invented (by nature or humans) is flax seed gel! It seal, holds and conditions like no other! I used to use silicones alot when i was relaxed and transitioning. I listened to all the natural hair trends and stayed away from them for many years but i just started incorporating them back slowly. I see some improvement in frizz but its too early in my experiments to really say what i think yet.

Great video. I literally stumbled on how to care for my high porosity hair. Once I wash my hair, no more water after that. My hair needs to be 90% dry before I add a moisturiser followed by an oil. I literally have to moisturize daily otherwise I'm in trouble. It's starting to pick up a little now but I couldn't understand why my hair was so dry and breaking. Thing is so many natural hair RU-vidrs literally advocate using water to spritz on your hair but it's not beneficial to everyone. I stopped following people who could no longer provide me with scientific information and changed their products weekly lol. Anyway, I'm on a detox journey so I'm hoping that will have a huge impact on the quality and quantity of my hair.

I have had a a very tough time with my high porosity hair lasting and looking good past the first day, until I found out my hair doesn't like glycerin thanks to youtuber MelissaQ. It's tough enough having high porosity hair and now adding to it is glycerin which is in almost every product. I have spent soo much money hair products that don't work. Urgh. sigh. Glycerin sucks all the moisture out of my hair, no matter the season, and no matter where it falls in the ingredient list. It leaves my hair frizzy, limp, dry and matte. Since I eliminated glycerin my hair has been doing much better; still a work in progress. It's very hard to find glycerin free products.I have been using only Camille Rose leave in and moisturizers and uncle funky's daughter curl stimulator. These have saved my life. Thank you for this video!! Always helpful to learn some more through you and the comment section too :)

Thanks for this comment. I’m so confused. My hair dryer than a desert. Ive’ been trying all kinds of things. I found that it stays the most moist when I use Palmers Curl Creme and a bit of Pure Glycerine. I was shocked! It never occurred to me. I do believe my hair is HPH tho. It can take in moisture but it drys quickly and absolutely will not maintain moisture no matter what kind of conditioners (and I own a small fortune of them) I use. I resorted to using the Gylcerine as a desperate measure and am shook that works. I live in CA so there is very little moisture in the air which might be why it doesn’’t over moisturize my hair. Thanks for the comment- I feel like I’m on a detective hunt for the right combination on the hair of mine.

I just realized after all of these years of being natural that I have high porosity hair. I've been spraying equal parts cold aloe vera and water on my hair, directly after rinsing out my deep conditioner in cool water, then immediately sealing with an oil in the shower. I also apply my leave in, in the shower as well. This has helped to shock and smooth my cuticle so much, which helps to retain moisture in my hair longer. I also seal after utilizing my styling product as a final seal with a diy ayurvedic butter. I've learned that layers are key. The more layers, the more time that it takes for the moisture to evaporate. So basically do the LOCSB. Leave in aloe vera spray and water, oil, cream leave in, styler, and seal with butter. I only have to re moisturize my hair once during the week now. I also don't utilize products with humectants high on the ingredient list during the summer time. They're great for the fall winter or colder climates, but if you live in a humid climate like I do, it can lead to extreme frizz. I don't mind a little bit of frizz, but not a birds nest, lol.

Thanks for this! Realized recently that I have Lopo hair after 12 years being natural. The last few years my hair has gotten finer and stagnates at my current length. I’ve tried many things, mini twists, braids, wigs... but nothing worked. My biggest problem is single knot twists. I can’t wash and go, that’s a disaster, and retaining moisture more than a day seems impossible. Plus I’ve noticed a small patch of my hair has fallen out at the crown (it’s thankfully growing back). I’ve been doing hot oil treatments and pre-poos the last 4 or so months and my hair has gotten a bit stronger. What’s helped is washing about every 10-14 days, not spraying too much water (or any at all) when I remoisturize between washes (going straight to leave ins and sealants is better) and more importantly, leaving it alone! I try to do 1 or 2 styles only between washes, usually a pinned up style or a bun. Sucks because I wanna play with my hair more but I need to focus on health now. 🤷🏿‍♀️ What type of hair grease do you recommend?

The biggest challenge is moisture retention. I get so discouraged watching naturals on youtube who are mostly low porosity saying they can go a week without refreshing and I feel like I have to refresh and remoisturize my hair every 2-3 days One thing that has helped with breakage has been prepooing. I used to dread wash days because by that time my hair was so dry and going in with a shampoo just dried it even more and broke all my hair off but prepoo has saved my hair

I have naturally high porosity hair and what helps me the best is ACV Rinses, Clay washes, Co- washing, adding more oils to my deep conditioners, frequent protein treatments to help strengthen my strands, sealing with oil and doing a mid-week moisture and sealing routine. My biggest problem with my high porosity hair is retaining length especially when my hair gets to shoulder length or longer so I have to trim more often to help prevent split ends.

I have high porosity. I have been banned by the trichologists from oils, butter or grease and DIY like acv. Following the regimen, my trichologists recommend helped. Moisturising with a heavy leave in and steaming my hair daily with a hot towel or heat cap and shampooing and deep conditioning with steam weekly. It seems to moisture train my hair when I do this. I have ultra-fine high porosity hair so my hair likes protein except maybe in winter when I focus more on moisture. I use a clarifying chelating sulfate shampoo every 4-6 weeks due to hard water and other environmental factors.

Thanks for the video! You're giving some great tips here. Im a naturally HP type 4 girl and my hair is strong, healthy, thick and flourishing as a natural. Even when my hair was relaxed it was doing the same and was midback length. It's stronger now though of course. My biggest problem is probably folks always acting like HP hair is the worst most damaged thing ever just b/c it's HP lol. It's not, and is just as natural for some of us like LP hair is for most. My advice to others is just find your regimin and products that work for you and stick to it. That may mean you toss out things that work for lots of LP girls or everyone swears by. Things that don't work for me that lots of people love: aloe Vera juice or pure aloe gel, coconut anything (throw the whole coconut away as far as I'm concerened), apple cider vinegar (dries my hair out and lead to my relaxed hair breaking and eventually falling out of my scalp like a waterfall thus leading to my big chop. I've only used it once since being natural to correct protein overload I accidentally caused. I undstand how it works for my hair now and didn't know it then. Definitely a hard lesson on why not to jump on hair trends/products/ingredients that I don't understand, which is why I love this channel! Tips that work for me: I prepoo the night before wash day with water or the As I am JBCO water, and JBCO. Can even add a little leave-in if you want. I like melanin hair care's. It's basically like the hot oil treatment mentioned, just before you wash. Get a shampoo that cleans while softening and a good conditioner. I like purology hydrate as my hair is now colored but use it on friends who are not and it's still great. I deep condition with heat everytime I wash even though that's another thing people say don't do ( w/ a steamer or hothead cap). I wash every 8 to 14 days max. I like TGIN honey miracle mask for DC and if it's 2 wks since my last wash and my hair was dry before the pre-poo like from a wash n go, I mix in a small amount of The Ronnie Shop's conditioner as that has some protein in it. I DC with a protein conditioner properly once a month, either Ronnie's or Nairobi Humecta-Sil. And do a serious protein treatment every 3-4 months (Aphogee 2 step). I LCO or LOC depending, on soaking wet hair while still in the shower before styling and leave a shower cap on until I style. And lastly I use a different oil for my scalp than I do for my hair, depending. That's a whole lot or info and products but hope it helps someone else. I'm now two years post big chop. My hair has grown from less than a quarter inch in the back to the middle of my shoulder blades and is healthy and thick. Not the most growth ever but I'm happy with it. Find what works for your HP hair and stick to it and your hair will flourish. Good luck!

So I know this is a late comment. But my biggest challenge has always been breakage. So I’m Latina and mom and I are on two different sides of the hair spectrum entirely. My mom is Dominican and Ecuadorian and she came out with more indigenous hair. She had it straight and very oily. My mom used to be a hair dresser in the Dominican salons where they only want to straighten your hair. I got my hair from my father he a brown skin Puerto Rican man and his mom has got 4c hair. I have a lot of features from her and same thing never took the time to understand her hair. So I got screwed all the way I got curls and shrinkage and and high porosity hair with 0 idea what to do with it. My mom always complained that me hair didn’t grown when I was little. Now I’m like no shit you didn’t know what to do, freaked out and damaged it more. I love my hair and it’s been a whole journey because I messed with it a lot and went bald due to alopecia it seems to be getting better. So now I’m trying to build a new relationship with my hair because I’m having a little girl and me and my fiancé have the same hair type all together so I’m like crap I better get on before I traumatize another generation.

When i did the water test all 3 strands of my hair sunk to the bottom of the cup with each strand dropping faster than the next. Ive always had thick, coarse, dense hair i dont know if i said the same thing 3 times . Always at a good length. After reading comments i realized that moisturizing my hair once every other day was not cutting it. So i decided to moisturize my hair everyday to see a difference. My regime already included protein treatments and weekly hot oil treatments. Once i started moisturizing my hair everyday i realized huge changes. 1. Feels like my hair is getting thicker or more dense 2. My hair feels softer 3. I can see my hair growing 4. My hair is also retaining moisture longer. The last one idk if im retaining moisture longer or if moisturizing everyday is stopping my hair from getting a chance to dry out. I also dont know if those two are mutually exclusive.

My hair was very high porosity I did a few intensive treatments after the chop and now my hair doesn't know what it is. It takes a while to absorb moisture but I still lose it fast as well. First of all I love your videos so much. All what you're saying about hair problems and solutions are so working. I experienced all of that myself and I applied exactly your tips and they worked wonderful. I have high prosity hair at the top of my head and at the bottom I have normal beautiful curly hair. I used to spray water on my hair, then put lots of oil and leave it on, as that was the only way to enjoy hydrated and manageable hair. Then I discovered that this water was damaging my hair and the top part of my hair is completely damaged and it wasn't not growing long. It was also so very dry like spikes comping out from the root of my hair. Nothing helped hydrate or make it stop breakage. What I did the change my hair and I see fabulous result are: - Using a cleansing shampoo, especially when I put masks with oils and butter on my hair. My focus is my scalp to be clean, but my hair also needs to be clean and smells good with no build ups. If I need wash my hair twice, the first with a cleansing shampoo and the second with a sulfate free one - white vinegar is amazing to give the hair the shininess and healthy look. It helps moisturizing hair someway! - Scalp scrub twice a week for two weeks, then every week & finally when I feel that I need it may be even 10 days, 2 or three weeks. (My main target is the parts of my scalp with damaged hair) Using a salicylic acid spray on my scalp once a week, leave it overnight and wash my hair in the morning. (My target is the part of my scalp with dry damaged brittle hair) Using a leave in conditioner spray when I feel that my top hair is dry & I want to stop damage and breakage and grow longer & it really helps. Using oils without wetting my hair with water ever. It helps my hair absorb the oil and be healthier. I think that's pretty much everything that helped me finally have hydrated healthier growing hair.

My hair is a 2c hair type and I recently bleached my hair to a level 9 shade and I think the most challenging thing would be that a lot of my curl has “died” and just falls flat when I get out of the shower but I find using a nourishing leave-in conditioner and sleeping with a silk or satin bonnet has really helped them spring back into place.

OMG!! Thank you so much for this video content and the detailed explanation on how to treat my damaged hair. I recently relaxed my hair with an out of date relaxer (did not know until after relaxer was applied) that caused high porosity hair. A week later I went to a professional for a keratin protein treatment to stop the breakage - it caused more breakage. My hair is now very thin on top and it's been several weeks later and I'm still experience lots of hair lost when brushing or combing my hair (I'm so scared of losing more hair that I keep my hair in a wrapped style, trying to avoid using a comb/brush). Which is why I am so excited to see and learn from this video - now I know what to do....Thank you so very much for sharing your chemical knowledge of hair - and at no charge! Lady you Rock!!!

I have high porosity hair and using Melanin Haircare Conditioner has helped me to feed my hair the quality moisturizing products it needs weekly and by deluting it with water while adding fresh blended aloe vera to use it daily as a spritz before and after bring outside to help replenish and slow the loss moisture. This way when I sweat, the natural ingredients are what touch my sensitive skin. Just removed 6 week old passion twists and my hair thanked me.

I have high porosity hair- naturally. Once I discovered my hair porosity, I realized what my issue has been all my life. My hair is prone to dryness and tangles easily. Silicones is necessary to help smooth and limit fast moisture depletion. Honey has been an exciting ingredient for me. Since it’s a humectant it pulls moisture in. Coconut oil is NOT my friend and it’s in everything.

I second your opinion on silicones.

Coconut oil is not for me either. It irritates my scalp to the point where it will blister.

Thank you for this information. Only wished you'd given examples of products to go along with it, like you did in other videos. That never gets old.

I just found your channel and I'm so glad I did... had to subscribe after watching this video. I'm always telling people that hair grease and hair butters are favs because I have high porosity and they just don't understand

Hello, my biggest problem is single strand knots. My best attribute to my hair is finding the correct regimen in keeping my hair moisturized. Mine is LCOG, which is liquid, cream, oil, grease. My hair drinks everything so, every two-three days, spray with water, then cream, then my oil blend, and to seal the butter/grease mix. Remember my hair is high porosity. I wish that I could go three days or more "only in the summer , due to high humidity". At this time of year, air is dryer, believe it or not this is the time of year where most "professionals" would mess up and caused me to start over by cutting my relaxed hair due to dryness and breakage. Now I'm older and natural and keeping my hair in better shape. I have hair that's springy and tightly coiled, true 4c hair. One side is thicker due to radiation treatments 12 years age for cancer. I cut my hair about twice a year, mainly buzz cut. If my twists looks raggedy around the ends, I cut them because I keep my hair twisted. Some people don't believe I've got healthy hair, but the stretch and spring back is proof. It's longer than what it looks like. Question on side note: What is Olapex, and what is it used for?

How often do you use oil on your hair? I’m in need of some tips to bring my hair back to life. It seemed as if oil would cause more frizz if I apply it while my hair is wet, but I could be doing something wrong as well.

Thanks for the tips. I have very fine, high porosity, 4C hair which I feel like it's the worst combination but learning to love it. I moisturize every single day and it's still always dry and and tangles easily. Now I'm gonna check to see if the ingredients you mentioned are in my products.

Thank you for this video. It was so helpful. Researching my ingredients now to be sure ther's no sodium laural sulfates...and Ihave had a love hate relationship with hair grease because of all the taboos that came with it, but it has always worked for my hair! I don't need large amounts and I wash it often enough so that I don't have build up. I have noticed that prepooing for me with oils and or conditioner mixed has really has been a game changer.

Do you blow dry your hair with grease ? I can’t seem to keep it soft after blow drying..
@onceme2u
@onceme2u 2 года назад
@@mizzmiami3242 no, I use the grease on damp hair. If you like to blow dry it, I recommend applying the grease first and letting it air dry (it'll take awhile!). Then blow dry your roots to stretch the hair a bit without disturbing the curls. You could try blow drying a little before applying the grease but you'll lose some definition

Very educative, I know I'm low porosity but I'm struggling atm so I was watching your video on low porosity and mistakenly tapped on this and I realised this is what I actually needed. I believe my hair is damaged from continuous manipulation and I've got soo much dryness. With your info I'm high porosity now, for sometime now I've realised my hair is taking in moisture quickly and freakily dries out quickly. My main problem for months now is serious tangling, knots and breakage that I have almost the same length as a year ago. And I don't know what to do, so will be trying the hot oil treatment frequently to see how this goes. Thanks you a lot!
