I review 4 leather slips: Maniago Knife Makers, Jack Wolf Knives, Traditional Pocket Knives / C. Risner Cutlery, and Sage Grouse Leather in this low-tech bake off.

I appreciate the review man! Very proud of my slips. My leather guy does such a great job. I also love the work from River Lovec / Sage Grouse Leather.

Thanks for checking it out Austin! Yeah, River's work is exquisite...In fact, I really liked 3 of the 4...the Maniago one was just too magnetic to be useful for anything other than a magnetic-free (brass/micarta/titanium covers) slippy. ✌

I don't have any leather slips yet, but I bookmarked the CRC because it looks like loads of bang for the buck. This was a great comparison video and everything you said made total sense to me. The sage is gorgeous and if someone were to only get one for all their knives, should probably treat themselves to this, as I believe, it'll give the most smiles per dollar over its lifetime, especially since you're more likely to show it off than the others. Thanks for the upload Mitch, very good, me likey.

Thanks lefty! I agree with everything you said..."smiles per $" - knice! There are definitely other makers out there I want to try, but I haven't been able to get on their books - there's definitely some demand backlog. Thanks for checking it out! 🤜🤛

I would say that the last two slips have the bottom corners cut on angles for comfort in your pocket. Square corners would tend to pine you until they rolled over.

Oh...thank you. I gotta be honest - I got so much junk rolling around in my pockets I hadn't even thought of that, but it makes perfect sense! 👍👊

I’m definitely not a slip joint guy. Not much experience with slips but I’ve tried a Jack Wolf. For bigger knives I have used a slip with a few CRK’s. Used the CRK brand slip as well as Northwoods leather works. I have to say outta the 3 the CRK branded slip was my favorite. Definitely advantages to them all. Great idea for the video Enjoyed hearing your thoughts

Thanks for checking it out as always Dave! I've been wanting to get a Northwoods one since I got my first carbon fiber Jack Wolf, but his books open and close like a Walmart door on black Friday - you have to be vigilant. 😂 I never even thought about using a slip with a locking blade - but it does make sense for your nicer/fancier surfaced frames and other locking blades. Maybe CRK was visionary and it will be the next EDC hot trend. 😎✌
