Does anyone else have burned into their memory the scene in Terms of Endearment where she "advocates" for pain meds for her daughter at the nurse's station?! I am a cancer survivor who cannot get adequate pain management due to the opioid crisis in our state/ nation... a crisis that I had nothing to do with. I wish her mom character in that movie could advocate for me and fellow sufferers!
I adore Shirley MacLaine.. she is a tremendous, phenomenal artist. But I have to say, my favorite movie of hers was, "Out on a Limb"... I was fascinated by this true-life spiritual journey of hers. I also have the book.
I met Shirley MacLaine Beatty on the beach in South Jersey Atlantic City of all places to meet a movie star!! She had a show at one of the casinos!! I came on the beach late to meet up with friends!! They told me Shirley was near the water alone with a very large brimmed hat!! I didn't believe them but I was curious and went to the location!! There was a woman laying down in the sun but couldn't see the face because of the hat!! So I said " Hello!! And up sprang Shirley and said to me!! "I feel like a swim now!! Would you like to go with me? I couldn't believe it and said "Yes!! That was my encounter with her I'll never forget!! She was completely open and not at all unapproachable!! Later when she came from the water !! She came over to me and thanked me for escorting her to the ocean water!! I remember my friends stunned with their mourhs open with astonishment!!
I like most everything she’s been in. I did not know, “The Trouble With Harry” was her first film! Love that movie. Terms of Endearment, Steel Magnolias, etc. I think she’s marvelous!
Greatest actress of all time 💞loved her in "two mules for sister Sarah", with Clint Eastwood, she is a fabulous dancer, singer and actress love watching her. 😊🎶👍
Shirley has strange beliefs but is a marvelous actress. I picture her in real life as being quite blunt and forceful. I doubt she would keep silent about her views. I'm glad she is still with us.
They seem to completely ignore Shirley's first Oscar nominated role in 1958's "Some Came Running" when citing her first " big break"---saying that 1960's "The Apartment", her 2nd Oscar nominated role/movie was her " big break" in the movies.
How interesting. I always enjoyed Debra Winger as an actress - "Officer and a Gentleman" was magic with Richard Gere... and she was also terrific in the 'Black Widow'!

I love Shirley but she was jealous of Debra Winger at that point in time. Winger was actually the better actress or equal in that movie. And Jack Nicholson was probably giving Winger the most attention. It was jealousy.
They just don’t make em like this anymore. She was a true star that could okay in Any role. I loved her singing, was amazed by her dancing and adored her acting. Terms of Endearment and Steel Magnolias are my favorites.
Shirley Maclain has been my favourite female actor since seeing her in "Artists and Models" with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, one Saturday morning when I was a lil tacker. Anyone who rolls their ankles often are always good people! 😉 ❤🙋♀️
I would love to meet her, out on a limb book, i read my own journey into spiriuallity, 2 ans aint 4. Every book she wrote i read and always was just what i was working on. Love her. Saw her perform twice in Melbourne aust and chatted to andrew peacock, ha but didn't know who he was. I was a high class lady of the night in a healing capacity. Would love to meet her, ageing fan. Loved Shirley. Fabulous actress and so talented. Also enjoyed her position on Metaphysics. She helped transform many people with her positive attitude.
In her books she contradicts herself repeatedly. Warren never speaks of it. How many psych professors are Baptist? And according to one of her books or articles her aunt and uncle published a communist newspaper in Canada. However, regardless of her constant erroneous propaganda she is a good actress and dancer and chooses good films.
I’m not surprised about who she never wants to work with again. I never particularly thought that actress was anything special. Her performances didn’t blow me away in any movie she was in. I don’t understand the fascination with this person as an actress. To me, she was mediocre at best. I don’t give it away but it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
How could anybody dislike this iconic actor and fabulously feminine lady ? My views are those only based on what I've seen of her from a plush velvet seat, in a darkened cinema, but her personality is such that she won me over from the outset ! Her dynamism is such that it wins-you-over, like a returning lost-love ! Shirley is diamond-sharp, and solid gold !
One person I could not watch or stand. Beyond hard and cold, she was rude, disrespectful, and narcissistic. On the other hand her brother Warren is a good person.
