@@rbishop95 no, she literally wasn’t lol. Rachel was only great at singing Broadway music, everything else she was simply ok. Mercedes could sing a variety of genres very well & Kurt’s range was extraordinary.
thats what i actually like about her. she gives the underappreciated members like kurt and mercedes here their own time to shine. honestly, mr shue shouldn't even be that surprised that he's like "my own kids betrayed me??" like you were being unfair to them, which is why they kind of transferred to the cheerios temporarily
I cant believe the writers then made Kurt just “Rachel’s GBF in New York lol” like why did they give Rachel such a supportive friend when she doesn’t even value friends to begin with?
The fact that Quinn wasn’t a cheerleader and missed being on the squad but gave such a sweet smile during the performance is so sweet! Will needed to realize how awesome the performance was rather then getting all annoyed by them. It is true he wasn’t necessarily giving them many solos as Emma points out in the second season...Also Quinn’s smile was so sweet and true!
Yeah!!! She was a way better friend than Rachel who was about to slap in their faces for this performance!!! In fact, Quinn demostrated she was a very good person underneath!! But I guess that being a teenage mom make you mature more faster and more violently.
i love how quinn always seems to be enjoying everybody's performances the most. she just looks so bright its a shame how they butchered her and gave her little screen time
Sofia Tan I wish Quinn got more screen time. As shown in this performance and in the next ep, she really enjoys Kurt and Mercedes' performances. I would love it if they elaborated on their fabulous trio.
Yea I agree quinn was a bully to Rachel, and others before glee, but she became a better person. And as for selfish she is a little bit every single character on the show is a little bit selfish. I believe Rachel is way more selfish.
rachel was a diva all the way through the end, it's sad that her selfishness didn't minimize as her character grew. it's like as the story progressed and as her character developed she became more stubborn, big headed, and self centered
Schue felt so betrayed... But he never utilized their voices before, and took a couple more years to do so for Mercedes. Kurt's character was... pretty much told to be a background voice and be happy with it. Despite his clear ridiculous range and passion.
Shue deserves the feeling of betrayal, he always gives the solos to rachel and fin and while I love their voices, I'm getting tired of them, everyone else of glee club also has amazing voices but never gets to show it. I mean, except for the audition, have we ever truly heard Mike and Matt sing? Hell, do some of you even remember Matt? Most don't because he never gets any screen time. I just want a solo for kurt and the other members like they deserves.
Anna Bonde Hinke Doesn't Blackbird count? I love that song. Or do you mean he was never given any solos at dalton in the storyline (as in he never song any other solos at competitions)? Because if so, Kurt moved back to McKinley before nationals so there weren't really too many opportunities. But they Blaine did definitely overshadow Kurt which I hated.
This just highlights how invasive Will was as a teacher. Why would they need to give him a heads up on becoming cheerleaders? It literally has nothing to do with him.
Arya Stark I mean, Sue hates the Glee Club. If two of your best singers joined your enemy, you would probably be pissed. I get that Mr. Schue can be creepy, but you guys are bullshitters and you know it.
UnderBaked Bacon the reason those two even agreed to join the Cheerios is because the glee club was just Rachel and friends. Mr never cared about the other members talents and kept pushing Rachel and Fin. He was very invasive in the beginning of the episode by butting in on Rachel and the rest of their conversation on personal matters outside of school. If I had a teacher like mr shue that is invasive, perverted, disrespectful and discriminatory I’d get him fired
Literally in the first half of the season Sue sent her cheerleaders to spy and sabotage the club and then she tried to divide the club and set them against each other. Will has reason to worry!
Right?? And they do it with Madonna, whose whole deal as an iconoclast (by which I mean, a powerful counter to the mainstream and traditional ideals) is owed entirely to black and gay cultures. You love to see it.
This was one of his best duets where he sang a male part. Although he did a great job in "Rockstar" with Elliot. Although I love his duets with Blaine, sometimes, the best ones are the ones that are traditionally male/female for them-Baby It's Cold Outside, Come What May-especially) but this song proves Kurt could dominate a male vocal .
Mr. Schue acting so hurt. They are just kids wanting to join a club. Leave them out of your stupid feud with Sue. They don't owe you any explanation or any warning.
It's honestly sad that Quinn, the teenager who was temporarily kicked out of the Cheerios, was genuinely happy for Kurt and Mercedes and enjoyed their performance. She was more of an adult than Shue was. I don't know if that shot of her smiling at their performance was done as a way to deliberately highlight how childish Shue was in comparison to a teenager, but that's what it looks like in comparison
I wish Kurt and Mercedes stayed with the cheerios a little longer because at least they would be appreciated by Sue. You know she would of incorporated their singing in their cheers
I don't like how they wrote Sue's character in the following episode, having her force Mercedes to lose wait to stay a Cheerio. It seemed completely out of character for Sue given that she generally hates everyone equally and wouldn't have put Mercedes on the Cheerios only to throw her off for something that was pre-existing. It made it seem like somehow Will was right to be upset for them "defecting" when he wasn't at all.
@@daz5491 That does ring a bell, which then why did she allow Mercedes on? It's still inconsistent for her character which only bothers me because Sue herself always seems like the type of person who's really consistent with what she does.
Johanna Jean Well this is literally the only time in his life he was confronted with the concept of people other than Rachel and Finn singing a duet... his entire world view was shattered right here
This video says a lot about Mr. Shue and Rachel as characters, and Quinn too. You have Kurtcedes giving a great performance, everybody loving it and Mr. Shue just pissed off because it is more popular than the Glee club and Rachel pissed off and jealous because everyone else is cheering and enjoying Kurt and Mercedes and not her. Quinn for the other part looks so freaking happy watching them. And so proud. You know... like a real friend.
She's not talking to anyone and is not giving a high five. The guy in front that turn around is the guy that work for the school newspaper (he showed up a lot in season 1) that had a crush on Rachel. He is about to ask something before she stops him, she evens says "not now". And her expression is pretty obvious 🙄. They show not only hers but also Mr. Shue (surprised, a little confused, kinda worried) and Quinn's (delighted). Rachel during the duration of the show is annoyed when she's not the star, specially during the first season where this number takes place. Yeah, she gets a lot of hate from comments nowday but she wasn't a likeable character the 90% of the time. You make like her and that is fine, everyone has their favorite character, but don't pretend that she was always nice.
@Dominic Everything i can agree with you a little, but at the same time, in the first few season rachel wasn't the biggest star in glee. sure, she was one of the main characters, but others had storylines too. as the show went on, it kinda reduced down to rachel, blaine, and sometimes sam and kurt. it's not a crime to wish other characters were included more in the later seasons; ESPECIALLY characters like artie, tina, quinn, etc... people are allowed to be bitter lmao.
@Dominic Everything Rachel was definetely not the "star" of glee on the first few seasons. She was a major character who liked to think of herself as the center of everything, but the truth is that there was a lot of other things going on and her plotlines were easily the least interesting tbh.
@Dominic Everything I mean, just by picking S1, you can clearly see there were more important storyline than Rachel's, including Will's (fake) baby, Quinn's pregnancy, Kurt's coming out, Finn's grief of his dead father... all more interesting than Rachel, that were mostly all about boys problems and her insecurity. Secondly there's a difference between Rachel being the star of the Glee CLUB and her being the star of Glee, the actual show. I definetely see why you'd think of her as the star of the glee club, even tho it still is subjective. However there was a lot going on outside of the glee club, especially in earlier season and storytelling-wise Glee is clearly a multiple POV kinda show, so no, Rachel wasn't the "star" of it.
@@mazvitaselemani Naya isn’t black she’s mixed she said it in her book stating that she could play roles for a black character,a Latino character and others
I love a few Hummelberry songs too, although Kurt and Mercedes sound amazing here. It goes to show that Chris Colfer has an incredible talent, singing male or female vocals and killing it.
It has been years since the series ended and I am still bitter kurt left the cheerios and got the life and character sucked out of him. He is still the most likeable character in glee in the later series but is a shadow of himself from earlier seasons.
I love how the way they zoom in to sue, It had that music video feel, and she is never satisfied with anything but at this moment she was nodding along at her production with confidence as she knows that her Cheerios are amazing!
I missed their friendship so much :( also forever mad they didn't have more pop duets, they radiated so much confidence, power and sexyness in this performance
This is probably one of my favorite duets in all of Glee, plus I love all the cut a ways especially Jesse and Rachel's part where Jacob puts a mic up to her and Jesse was all wtf but Rachel was totally unfazed.
I couldn't agree more, I love glee and wish that more than friends as mercedes had wanted could have happened. Even just once. Kurt should have kissed mercedes when he was trying out being with a girl instead of doing it with the lesbian blonde cheerleader. I feel bad for mercedes but this song was fantastic
@@cayleesnow71 you're not wrong, but Brittany is bi, and the episode wasn't about Kurt thinking he is straight, or want to experience... it's about him wanting to be straight, because his father starts doing so many things with Finn (the straight foot-ball loving son, he never had)... Kurt felt like he was left out, and trying his hardest to be the son his father wished for ever since Kurt was born, because he felt like loosing his dad... and Mercedes respected that Kurt is gay (even at this point) and I mean it's clear what he was trying to do, and I don't know exactly but she haven't had something with a guy before... but yeah she deserved better on the show... like Rachel becomes everything, and by that I mean EVERYTHING, she wants, while everybody else suffering
@@temi7344 yeah but he would be like 10 in this clip and it looks like there are only students and staff from McKinley watching. I think Wade saw them at Regionals etc
i am obsessed with this whole video. amber and chris' voices blend like BUTTER i havent gotten over how much i love how this song emphasizes their sound
I'M STILL OBSESSED. how am i meant to not love everything about this. the choreography, the band, the sass, it's so good and I'm incredibly distraught in a good way
Kurtcedes was great until the producers realized that Kurt was much more popular than the gay bff he had been meant to be... so they increased the importance of the character by making him the bff of the female lead... that meant that Kurtcedes took a backseat to Hummelberry... which was great because it meant more Kurt but also bad because it meant less Mercedes...
Kurt & Mercedes were way more entertaining than Kurt & Rachel, but I do agree, once he became more popular they thought it would be a good idea to pair him with Rachel but around season 4, that kinda made Kurt's character a little more annoying as well. I know it was kinda like a joke but when Kurt said that he & Mercedes make pop culture, he was right, which is why the two of them were very entertaining.
Yes I think Kurt and Mercedes had more in common than Kurt and Rachel. I think his interactions with Rachel made him be reduced to the gay best friend archetype.
Well, to be fair, Rachel is the leading female role of this show, and Kurt/Chris got so much attention and love from the audience so they had to put him on the show more time, and it's only can work if he became closer with Rachel, so that it an has enough screen time. It's never fair part for every characters, so that they had to drop a lot of great stories as well as friendships can developed. They turned themself in to an dead-end when they can only use Finchel for every important performances. It's funny that Kurt wasn't has a lot of performances in later seasons but he's always keep an important role in other's story. (And personally I always think RM try to break up Klaine so that Blaine can has a more dramatic stories on his own, but it's turn out Blaine also lost his attraction when he wasn't with Kurt)
@@angelanguyen1384 i find blaine the most charming in the warblers. he shined the most as a mentor figure without too much oil in his hair and in that damn beautiful blazer. not necessarily only surviving with kurt but when he went to new directions he became male rachel berry which is just ew
You know this show always has its characters bring up the fact they don't get solos except for Rachel and Finn. But they never try to fix that. Even after Rachel graduated we still followed her around on her journey, what about Mercedes? Who is actually famous and made an album? I'd much rather see someone's journey who is doing her best and succeeding, than someone constantly making annoying choice and could barely make it as an actress.
Harley_Lotus_Flower 23 and thats why ut failed. Glee could have went the distance but so many many many bad choices. And Rachel, and Blaine storyline and non exist character growth are one of them.
And Will could have learn the lesson Sue taught him that day, Kurtcedes could make such a great show and be real divas, but nooo Rachel still got all the other songs after this... These two shine too bright 🔥
The best duo in the entire series. I really wish they kept this friendship instead of Kurt and Rachel. This one felt real. Two talented people who never felt threatened by one another. The superior friendship.
lol. I think the same. He was incredibly sexy in this. Especially his voice. The grunts and growls. No babby penguin here at all. I think in Sexy, he was trying too hard. lol
Thunder griffin, I think they are both equally sexy. They both have songs where their sex appeal is through the roof, but this one is definitely one of Kurt's best moments.
To me he always had sexy in him, but he was too shy to show it. Like Rachel. She never was sexy to me until she got her new style in season 4. I thought she was pretty, but that fashion she wore made it impossible to make her look sexy.
Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) sure knows how to bring on his singing talent and dancing! Kurt is definitely my favorite character in this series. To me, Kurt is one of the most relatable character, cause he's been bullied, he's gay, and what's worse, he lost his mother at a young age. A lot of people have gone through this. But, you shouldn't pick on someone who's different. Kurt is special, he's a really great character. Long live Kurt Hummel!
@Just Ask Kay Ikr?! Oh and Blaine accusing Kurt of cheating?! As far as Kurt was concerned, Chandler was just being friendly and flirty. Let's not forget Blaine wanted to marry Kurt, right after their break-up. I mean seriously, you broke up, now you wanna get back together through marriage? Seriously, who does that? Then, Blaine had the outright nerve to date Karofsky! That is messed up! Kurt deserves so much better. I always thought Sam, Sebastian or Rory would've been a nice choice for Kurt! I mean, Rory for example, at the dodgeball game, Kurt stood up for Rory when Santana was being a complete bitch to him. Sam, Kurt really wanted that duet with him, but Finn decided to break it up, but Kurt also helped Sam, by giving him Kurt's clothes and helping Sam's siblings. Sebastian, let's be honest here, if there was anyone who matches Kurt's sassy attitude, knows how to be a complete bitch, has a Ice King attitude, also speaks French and can keep up with Kurt in the insult department, it's Sebastian. That's why for me, Kurt deserves a lot better, or Kurt doesn't deserve anyone at all. I mean, Kurt's been through hell, but, yet he never backed down, he kept going no matter what happened to him. That's why for me, Kurt is an inspiration to boys and men who are gay.
And sue wasn't locking people in elevators and pumping airborne drugs through the vents and forcing them to make out in front of a puppet that made noises
mr. schue had no right to be upset tbh. he gave finn and rachel everything and then when mercedes and kurt took an opportunity sue gave them to shine he gets all pissy about it
Kurt should has more songs in which he sings like this, lower and thicker voice. And I can't believe they didn't has more duet when they're bestfriend for at least two seasons...
