4-Month-Old Abducted from House During the Night | Sabrina Aisenberg Case Analysis 

It's such a myth that you can't smile or laugh if you are truly grieving. When my mom died, I remember times when my siblings and I would remember something funny about her and we'd all laugh. Then minutes later we could be crying. It's not all or nothing, grief and humor can coexist.

Not all dogs bark at strangers, and the intruder also may not have been a stranger.

I remember this case. I also remember a judge blasting the police for making up what was on the tapes.

I have an almost 5 month old. I think I'd literally die. I hope she's out there and ok.

I lived about a half mile from the Aisenbergs at the time of this tragedy. We also had a 6 month old baby boy at the time. I never so quickly moved my sons crib into our master bedroom for a month or more after that happening. Personally, after hearing so very much about the case and I actually knew someone who knew the mom…these folks could not have done it. They were genuinely wonderful parents and a decent normal family. My heart goes out to these people to this day. Our son is 25 now. Sabrina would be 25 y/o this June. So so sad

I’ve always wondered about Sabrina and hoped that she was alive and cared for. I hope that is true but I am doubtful. Thanks for covering this very sad case.

We have accident our garage door open all night. And also left house doors unlocked and even sometimes not quite clicked tight. Our new puppy doesn’t bark hardly at all. If they told her how to act in the tv interview, and she wasn’t used to being on tv, that’s pretty understandable… and if someone did know that they had a baby and wanted her, and saw the garage door open, wanted to go get her, why would they steal other things?

I lived in Denver and it must have been fifty years ago something similar happened. Door open, left unlocked, baby gone. In that case they found the baby where she was left on a neighbor's lawn. It was an opportunistic burglary, teenagers, and I guess one of them thought they could sell the baby? There wasn't much follow up after the child was found. With today's security cameras, ring cameras, etc, I would hope this kind of thing would happen less often.

Every time I hear "lie detector test" I cringe. Just remember these so called tests are funded by taxpayers. Such nonsense! Also, you're so nonchalant with your humor. I love your channel, Doc.

A 4 dog investigation is _exactly_ why you need a lawyer because sometimes when the cops have a bone, they just don’t want to give it up.

About the garage door being open - did the Aisenbergs find out their garage door was open and then actually remembered leaving it open or did they find out their garage door was open and then just assume that it must have been them that left it open? I’d be curious to know which it is because if neither of them specifically remember leaving it open then maybe they didn’t, maybe it was a crime of opportunity by someone who knew a baby lived there and had a device like a code grabber that allowed them to open the garage door themself. Just my thoughts.

We have all accidentally left something opened at some point & time. One time I woke up, went downstairs and my front door was partially opened. I must have accidentally not shut it all the way and, after a long day, went upstairs to bed the night before. These police officers were reaching and had the audacity to lie (again) to fit their own skewed narrative. SMH. I hope the parents were able to move forward with their lives. Poor baby girl.

Dr. Grande, I've watched a lot of these shows (sadly too many) and as a retired RN I take note of the family person (usually the mom) and their demeanor when they make an appeal. I also know that ppl, esp. women are often medicated when something like this happens, it's how they get thru their day and be of any help to law enforcement. But the police never say that when they comment on someone's state of mind when they are put before microphones and TV cameras. I believe mom was medicated.

I've accidentally left my garage door open dozens of times, and I NEVER lock the door that leads from my garage into my house. My dog never barks. If someone came in in the middle of the night, my dog would probably lick the intruder or totally ignore him/her.

That Bassett hound was our dog. Murphy always got my husband up in the middle of the night to go out. He always wanted to go out front but that night he insisted on going out the back door. That is when my husband heard the baby crying. We lived about ten houses from the Aisenbergs.

The fact they are still married says something.

My shepherd-Lab used to bark after raccoons on the deck overnight all summer long. Eventually, you just don't hear it, especially if already asleep. Brownie may well have barked but no one paid attention or even noticed.

Why would a kidnapper come in through the laundry/garage door and leave through the rear sliding door? If you've snuck into a home and you left a door open behind you are you going to bother looking for other exit doors, especially a sliding door? Sliding doors can be noisy. This makes no sense.

Remember this case very well. ‘Statistically’, this scenario would point to parental guilt. Still, With lack of any solid evidence against them (and the fact that they appeared to be good parents ) they should be treated as innocent by society and not outwardly judged. If My child was stolen and I didn’t know where they were , who had them, or if they were dead or alive and then on top of that have people misjudge me and treat me as if guilty, that would be unbearable.

Your analysis is spot on. Hopefully we have learned from our mistakes in these situations. Unfortunately more times than we can count, it is the parents who have done something. It happens way too often for any of us to be comfortable with.

Dr Grande, as a West Australian I think this could be an interesting case to analyze, A very young girl went missing in the north of Western Australia for 18 days just a few months back.. did you guys hear about that in America? She got taken from her tent in the middle of the night and the whole country was freaking out... So lucky they found her unharmed but apparently given very little to eat. Cleo her name was... The "Perth now" website has a big podcast series on it.. He kept dolls but had no kids and locals saw him buying nappies and knew he had no kids. Never let anyone in the house and was a bit of a loner etc...

I live in Florida and knew of this case through the tv. I never thought the Aisenbergs were guilty.

I think someone had been watching them and their house for quite a while and pounced when they saw that garage door left open. The only thing I think the parents are guilty of is their lack of Safety and Security.

This was definitely at least a four dog investigation. Just so many oddities. But I'd say your thorough and objective analysis made for a good eight or even a nine squirrel presentation of this case. Great job! 😁

I remember this case so well. The couple were very poorly treated by the media and law enforcement. Baby Sabrina’s disappearance shows how vulnerable we are in our homes. No one wants to believe his or her baby can be snatched from his or her crib. Thank you Dr. Grande.

Oh yo. I miss my black and white bird dog. Pointer mix. Loyally, and without condition, she slept right next to my daughters crib, then her bed every night, until she couldn't make it up the stairs anymore. My daughter has epilepsy and moderate autism. She does not like animals much. Never pet the Molly Dawg. But that dog wasn't in it to receive her love. She gave 100%. She was born in February and always has a cold nose kiss for anyone who wanted one. She died, at 16, in the month of May and will be forever young. 😢 damn Dr. Grande... trigger much? I did not expect that doggy salute. Cool stuff.

Dr. Grande, THANK YOU for saying what you did about polygraphs. I had a horrific experience with them and, while God and I know I didn't do anything, the police put their faith in a polygraph that made me look guilty. I came close to a nervous breakdown and wanted to commit suicide, due to the stress and fear of all of the suspicion and facing a trial and a possible long prison term for a felony, with my name all over the papers, and the reputation I'd built during my lifetime destroyed over this whole experience. As a felon, I wouldn't have been able to return to my career after conviction, so I would have lost that, in addition to everything else. I can't express the trauma of this chapter of my life, which has had long-term effects. I used to trust LEO, but no longer. I feel that they just wanted to pin this on someone ASAP to look good. I was/am innocent and I know it. I'm ashamed to say that, prior to my experience, I had believed that someone was guilty if they had "failed" a polygraph test or if it was inconclusive. Now, I know the truth. I wish they had never been invented. God knows how many innocent people have had to endure the consequences of "failing" a polygraph. I wish police could be convinced of their fallibility. Thank you for covering this incredibly sad story about Sabrina Aisenberg. I hope that the truth is discovered and those who took/harmed her are brought to justice! It's easy to judge and pronounce guilt from the outside, but sometimes things aren't what they seem. One day, perhaps, vindication will come.

I remember hearing about this on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries and it’s quite a peculiar case. One hand, the behavior of the parents seems odd, but due to the fact their child is missing people grieve the loss of their child not being with them. I tend to go in the direction of them not having anything to do with her abduction, but we won’t ever know what fully happened. Thanks for the analysis Dr. Grande, keep up the great work.

I would agree with Dr. Grande that the police did a very poor job. They were convinced that the parents were the perpetrators to an extent that their judgment was clouded. However, I would point out two things: In cases like this, it IS almost always the parents who are the perpetrators, just as when a husband or wife disappears or is killed under mysterious circumstances it is usually the other spouse's doing. Also, most or all the occurrences and the timeline stated here were provided by the Aisenbergs themselves. How much of their story about anything that occurred or did not occur this night is independently substantiated? Do we know for sure that the baby was even alive at the time they claim she disappeared? If we don't have independent substantiation of their story, then the baby's disappearance and/or death and concealment of the body did not necessarily even take place during the time period they claimed it did.

My anxiety is always on high for your type of stuff. I check the kids windows at least twice a night and the front and back door 3 or more times before going to bed. I think of all scenarios of what if something were to happen, how quickly I can unlock the firearm safe, etc. It is hell living like this sometimes BUT sometimes I wonder if it is a positive. I know, statistically, the chances of any of that being an issue are very low, but my mind won't let it go. These types of stories make me so sad because I hate to think of the things children go through. I hate when bad things happen to adults as well, but with children....it makes me so angry.

The police failed Sabrina and her parents, for sure. Imagine, on top of having your child kidnapped, being accused of doing it just because you’re not expressing emotions like people think you should. I hope Sabrina’s alive out there, and just unaware of her true identity. Given how young she was, she may well have been the subject of a black-market adoption.

I remember being fascinated by this case, and how terrible the investigation was.

It's perfectly reasonable for police investigators to keep alert to the possibility that the parents may be involved when a child disappears. It's unreasonable to jump to the conclusion that "the parents did it" without some evidence to that affect. It is also reasonable to think that parents' retaining a lawyer is proof of guilt when investigators do things like, say, demanding that the parents take a polygraph. What I want to know is if the police looked for any signs of forced entry when they arrived. The parents may have only assumed that they must have forgotten to lock up last night when they found the doors unlocked in the morning. 99% of the time, that's what happened when people discover their doors unlocked when they awaken. There's another possibility for Sabrina's abduction-- she might have been taken for adoption trafficking. That would explain why she wasn't to be found locally; she was transported to another state (or another country) with faked documentation. There's a lot of skeevy stuff that goes on in adoption.

Dr. Grande is the only person I want to listen to when it comes to a cold case. I want to hear his analysis and don’t feel greatly bothered with disappointment because a case has not been solved.

The most suspicious thing in this case is they 'accidently' left the garage door open. That seems a little contrived.

Everything in this case is unusual! The parents behaviours have been very disturbing to say the less . When you lose a baby (child ) in that type of circumstance you will be absolutely devastated ,unable to comprehend what happened to you’re baby “INCONSOLABLE”.not having a giggle the very next day 😡

What about DNA on the hair and fingerprints?

It is hard to say here as law enforcement must look at all possibilities. Shaken baby injury could be an additional explanation of accidental death, however I have accidently left my garage door open many times and the transcripts verbiage do not seem to be in a natural speech pattern. All in all, I have to agree with you Doc, no guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. It is sad either way. Great job.

People lawyer up and almost always are looked at as guilty by the majority, yet the first thing you’re taught by anyone intelligent is to lawyer up and don’t talk to the police.

I really think we need to ditch using a person's reaction to a situation as evidence of guilt. People react to stress and grief in countless ways. It isn't necessarily indicative of anything. It sounds like the investigators were taking some artistic license with their interpretation of the audio survelliance. There is certainly room for subjective analysis in crime scene investigation. But we ultimately need to be relying on facts and empirical reasoning to prosecute and convict.

Some of these larger dogs can be "wusses" when it comes to protection especially Golden Labs (I used to have one). And I have a very brave and courageous cat that "growls" and "barks" whenever someone knocks on the front door 😹

How do you leave the garage door open, the door between the garage and laundry room open and also do not turn on the alarm? Was that something they did often? I’m not saying they did something but if they didn’t, their actions partially led to Sabrinas’s disappearance. The police definitely only focused on them. That’s too bad, whatever chance Sabrina had of being found was lost because of that. I hope the parents have found some peace. The siblings as well. Great analysis.

I lived in Tampa then. Obviously, this case was talked about non-stop between the actual event and then the trial regarding those horrible tapes. The only thing I found to be "incriminating" about the Aisenbergs was that a four month old baby slept through the night regularly (if it wasn't regular wouldn't you almost be alarmed if it happened). When she was kidnapped she made no noise. Lastly, the first child the mother checks on in the morning isn't her four month old baby. Many said she woke up the son first so there'd be a witness to finding Sabrina gone. I didn't know what to think because nothing made sense either way. I was just so upset that there was a good chance Sabrina was no longer with us. The Aisenbergs worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited children. Every few years a child which could fit what Sabrina might look like would be found. The DNA tests would confirm it wasn't. However in 2022, so many people are voluntarily getting their DNA tested. There is still a slight possibility she'll be found.

Ok I crawled out of bed this morning as usual in a stupor (I am NOT a morning person), started listening to Dr. Grande videos, and suddenly I'm awake and laughing 😅 and ready to start my day! Thanks for the therapy (especially the four-dog comments)!

I was just reading about this case the other day. A very strange one.

Dr. Grande, I haven't known for this case. I am glad you did this analysis. "Ghost in the night" is the answer. With parent's permission, the FBI tapped their phone, so the any call from a kidnapper, could be traced. One of the first calls was from Steve's brother. Steve was supposedly awaiting a call from his baby's kidnapper, but never answered the call waiting beep that kicked in. They said they did everything the police told them to do. Even to be calm while asking for help. There is a huge difference between missing and dead regarding parents's feelings. People see shallow affect. They, even, told us that Maddie Mccann's parents were cold, because they are physicians. Similar cases. Thank you, Dr. Grande.

Such a sad case, and like the Maddie McCann case, the police are only too happy to blame the parents. Meanwhile, the real perpetrators are getting away with it. I cannot imagine how painful this must be for the Aisenbergs. Their lives will never be the same, and the not knowing must be horrible. Oh yes and we have accidentally left our front door open and gone to bed, it is shocking when it happens but thankfully our children survived!
