Okay- we have a foal alarm, and our mares learned to just lay down and they’ll hear us come to the barn and get up and put their head over the fence and wait for love. So they lay down jsut so we’ll come down to the barn and love on them. 😅

I know Pearl Snap gets to carry her own foals but with that TWagon baby I'd be making more of those and put them in recips! That is one hot colt. You have some stunning horses to build on!

I was struggling with sending my mare to be foaled out for me. Just so many horror stories of babies getting sick after being born. Years and years we had babies on grass. After watching your baby videos, I made the decision to let her have it on grass. Mama and baby are doing well and healthy so far. Thanks for reminding me how having them on grass is better for them if you can do it.

PLEASE post your findings about the colors etc! I’m curious of it too because this year at my job (I work for a warmblood breeder) ALL of the babies look like their recipes. A ton are ICSI and ET babies but it’s crazy how every baby has similar chrome and color to their recip moms.

The recip mares contribute to the development of the foal so it seems completely reasonable to expect that there is a degree of the mare contributing to the development of the foal. There is a growing body of research into the influence of the recip mare on the foal.

With a horse the embyro is further along when it's transferred in most cases. DNA dam is bred and transferred a week later. Ixy I am not read up on but i think that is an ovacyte vs an embyro. So I think Ixy could have a greater chance of the birth dam DNA having an impact.

So neat and cool that a horse has the same name as me.

Cattle have a sensor we put on them that tracks their activity usually with cows they are more active drop in milk production when they are in heat they also are more vocal and will ride each other.

I just bought the same foal alert. It is archaic. The binder instructions were ridiculously bad. But I put it on my mare. 3 hours later it went off. She was laying down resting. Went off again 2 hours later at 2am. She was Laying down. So I know it works, but I took it off until she starts to bag up. Apparently she lays down a lot.😂
