Hey Buck, could you make a video about age waivers for the 18X program? Do they exist? If so, how can we improve our chances of being granted one. Thanks Buck!
THANK you for this information. IM in high-school. Only wanted to go into the us military since I was 6 YO. Your video's have really helped my decision of what branch and MOS.
I am a former 18E. I went to basic in 04 and entered under the 18X contact. I went to airborne school immediately following basic the. It was off to Bragg for SOPC phase 1-A. I was a first time go on everything. I got Persian/Farsi as my language and went to 5th group. I deployed three times to Iraq and ETSed in the end of 09. I came in the army at 120lbs but packed on weight. The most important piece of advice I can give is have a good mindset and have the willingness to push your body beyond what you think it can do.
@@Checkmate777 he said he packed on weight. It’s not all about strength. You can be the strongest guy in selection but if you are not the right guy they wont select you. They are looking for people with strong wills and people who never quit and play as a team. He probably never gave up had a good attitude and was a team player.
@The85F0X May I ask how tall you were at 120lbs? I'm 5'6 and 155lbs with muscle, I know anything is possible but I would love to know your height because at that weight I have extreme respect for you. Thx
i so needed to hear this.. I am going thru it big time right now, worrying... even though this post is a year old, it will last a life time with me. Thank you .
Becoming a green beret is simple. Just look cool, don't get lost, and never quit. If you get lost then look cool doing it. If you feel like quitting then quit tomorrow. That's it.
Hey I just wanted to say this video really helped, especially the decision phase part. Im 17 currently so I have a while to go but I plan on going SF. I do try hard every day to be better and show up to work early. Peace.
You might have to wait until you're 21 but you can still enlist for the first 3 years. Get some Army experience and use the TA for college and other benefits. Just an idea to throw out for ya
Awesome man. Check out the 18x program for special forces candidate. You can sign up at 19 years old. And remember there’s a lot of great guys like Buck to help you along the way. 🏴☠️
I juat turned 29 and im wanting to serve, may not be able to do SF because of prior injuries.. bit im gonna try! And if not, ayy I still get to honor the uniform and do service for my country
You brought up a good point about motivations for wanting to become a Green Beret. Doing it for the clout, prestige and recognition isn’t going to be good enough when shit hits the fan and you get tested, you actually have to want to do the things that SF does so you can best serve your country. Do what you want to do, not be who you wanna be. I wanna be a Blackhawk Pilot so I’m pursuing Aviation, I’ve clarified what I want to do but I still love your content and watch for motivation and direction. Keep it up!
I love this as a guy in phase 1 going into 2. I had never even thought about it but was looking for info on differences between rangers and GBs and thought I wanted to be a 68w. Now with the job description and videos you’ve provided I’ve set on becoming a 18D (I hope I’m not mistaken) and am starting to get my paper work back in order and get back into tip top shape. Already faced my parents hating thinking I’m not gonna make it because I’m 25! They also kicked me out at 15 so I’ll do it just to prove them wrong if nothing else. You’re a god send and I hope to be able to buy some of your products soon 👍
@@FNGACADEMY I’m definitely excited! I’m glad to be a new part of your community and that I found you! Keep doing what you do for guys like me to find their calling and do better! You’ve been more helpful then my recruiter 😂
Yesterday I just completed my first marathon and I just wanna say thank you because after watching one of your videos I decided to sign up for a marathon. I also loved you on the bpn podcast.
About to cop an age waiver at 35, after two cancer diagnoses and countless minor dings over the last decade that kept me on the sidelines. Heading to an SFRE for NG SF here soon. Future's so bright I gotta wear shades, boys.
I’ve been keeping up with these videos for months. Thank you for all of the advice, Buck! I’m one month away from selection after 6 years of service. I’m excited and ready.
I'd say phase 1 is important as phase 3 from a psychological standpoint. If you're not building a strong, confident baseline and you're too busy beating yourself up with self doubt in phase 1, selection will kick your ass that much more and you'll potentially find yourself in a place you don't want to be. Of course planning out your decision only gets you so far.
Crazy to see your channel at 100k + subscribers. I remember RU-vid recommending your very first video to me just minutes after you posted it. Right in time before I left for a backpacking trip. You had under double digits of subscribers. Now in just over a year later your have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. It’s incredible to see. Everyone owes you a thank you for all the hard work and great advice! Keep up the great work Buck!
23, out of shape here im an honest dude I know what I bring to the table and don’t. I would like to feel confident and have some sort of cushion when it comes to the physical aspect of training.
I did urban forestry learning knots and then I did a lot of running in wildland firefighting type 2 school in job corps and trained myself in rucking with a backpack full of rocks and learned land nav and reading a map when hunting deer so I know the elevation and where I'm at and where to go and so on so I'm feeling good and making it into SF
Hey Buck, I’m looking into going officer, but also want to go SF after I’m commissioned. Could you make a video on this process or the competition in order to go to sfas as an officer.
You have to submit a packet once you are 1LT promotable. So your first 3-3 1/2 will be spent in the regular Army unless you get really lucky. You will not go straight into SF until you are a Captain.
It ain't hate, it ain't doubt. It's about the job, the reality, not the ideology. And effectiveness in cultures not your own, a reality you can't ignore with blinders on.
Another excellent video. I wish this shit was around back in my day (The stone age) Keep them coming, youngster. Buck, I'm sure people have already suggested it but you'd be a great motivational speaker. Not just for people wanting to join the military but in general. Hell, there were a lot of people in my police academy who were never in the military and they just lucked out as there were a handful of us that coached them and saw them through.
Great video. Preservation of the greater good is my why, and go help others who can't help themselves. I'm a prior service 0331 grunt Marine with two trips across the fence in Ramadi, Iraq. I got a good base to go crush this thing. Address situations as they come. Keep up the greater content, Buck. -Semper
@@FNGACADEMY yeah bro, I'll be that older dude that's gonna get weird looks when I go to selection, but age is just a number, and I look forward to instilling wisdom umongst my younger team mates, as I have a lot of life experience, maturity and knowledge to pass along. Thanks for dropping a reply. Mad respect for what your doing with the FNG Academy platform.
I am 47. So, US Army SF is obviously no longer my focus. I do love the channel and I think everything covered is stuff I wish I had been told. I got lucky in that my training was stuff you talk about While it didn't happen, what attracted me to Special Forces, was ,yes, the challenge. But the biggest point and attraction was it required thinking. Creative thinking. Learning to ruck, land nav, etc... those are skills. Physical fitness is a skill. It's learn able. Creative thinking is the hard one to teach. To get crude: I liked special forces because you fuckers think instead of checking boxes.
Please make some more vids that break down the intelligence, seniority and mentality component of being SF. There are real numbers to meet in order to increase likelihood of selection. Most vids focused on the physical. But it's bigger than that.
Recently just got dropped on graduation week from RASP. A very stupid reason. I’m now headed to the 101st and have been looking into dropping an SF packet. Anything you recommend? Maybe experiencing the real army, trying to get the tab first, or timeline after I drop a packet? I just know I don’t belong in conventional army
Hey Buck, I don't know if you have talked about it yet. At least I haven't seen the title for it yet. Can you talk about the medical standards in MEPS you would need to qualify? I find that a lot of people have a deep desire to go SF but, there can be certain medical things that they didnt realize would hold them back.
Hey Buck. Ship out April 25th for 35M and going to DLI first. I’m in relatively great shape all around based off of your videos and my own research. I am 30 years old and had concerns going 18x vs the route I chose now. My TSC has already cleared, I’ve got Language School first then AIT for 35M. I went this route based on if I got hurt or for whatever reason didn’t make selection I would be kicked back to Intelligence. My question is will I have good “sof” opportunities on the Intell side if I’m high speed physically enough? I have the same mind set of you as far as I tend to want more and more and set goal after goal. Theoretically I was wanting to be sent to an sof unit under 35m and put in my packet for selection asap. I know this is a lot of jumble put together but I honestly like your insight and videos the best lol figured I’d ask. Keep killing it man
I really wish this information was available when I was in high school would have really loved to have joined early in life not when I was older..joined at 26 got out 8yrs later..great time just wish I wasn’t fucked up going in smh..bad shoulder and knee going in oh well..it was fun though met a lot of good people
Awesome Sean. you seem to get over 1 k Likes each time EASILY !!! Keep motivating youngster's or Youthful prospects To go into the Military. . BUT . . . . .Firstly go because "you want to" not have to. [next] select the Core BRANCH for direction and purpose and career fulfillment. Finally ENJOY and have No Regrets. . . . . . . . . . . .
Great video man, good motivation, you're definitely right about the haters, have to really thicken your skin and want it for yourself, I'm preparing super hard to enlist with an 18x hopefully won't wash out like most people, loving the ruck life around 75 miles a week right now, plus running, biking and gym it's been brutal but pushing myself through the pain and exhaustion everyday has me feeling amazing, gonna keep grinding hopefully ship out in may or june
Gotta keep asking till I get lucky to be blessed with his reply. I'm enlisting next year going for a 18x I'm 6'10ft 250 pounds. Do you know of or have seen anyone that big make it into speacial operations?
I’m late to the game, can you do a video on SOPC? How much does it prepare you for selection? I know the AF does an in depth preparation course for its SW candidates. Is SOPC similar?
I’m getting ready to sign the papers for 18x, I have question though. I’m married and was curious at what point in the pipeline my wife will be able to move into base housing? I can’t seem to find any answers, thanks
Buck, should I be smoking myself every day, or is that hindering my improvement physically? I work like 730am to 6 or 7pm in the texas heat every day in construction. I'm burning about 3500 to 4000 calories and come home sleepy/hungry and then force myself to workout but I feel it wearing on me.
I got an op. 40 contract. I'll be shipping on the 13th of june. Thank you for everything. After I finish my time with the Rangers, green beret sounds like a good area for me after watching hours of videos and podcasts of you with the good, the bad, and the oh shit I almost died. My main worry is the physical aspect to be honest, but I'm confident I'll be ready by then. Thank you man for pretty much everything
SSG Korver is going to have fun with you , good luck man just don’t be a bitch and you’ll be okay. Also make sure you’re scoring a 300+ on the APFT or you won’t be classing up
Hey Buck. I am getting a stress test next month and I really want to join the Army. I have a heart condition though. Have you ever seen anyone in SF with a heart condition? I have coarctation of aorta. Thanks 😊
@fngacademy, I am graduating HS in the spring, and I want to enlist and get into Special Ops. Do you think it would be best for me to enlist as an 11B first or should I try to get that 18X contract. I read somewhere that you have to be 20 years old to be SF. Let me know, Thank you
i live in australia, going to bootcamp in april then if that pans out, will def try go in SF commandos or SASR later down the line. some good advise that i can implement and use.
For me not only do I have to study because I don’t have a high enough gt score and I have to become more physical fit it’s a lot but not enough to stop me
Hey Buck, I’m 19 years old and my “dream job” is to join the military and join SF or SOF. I’ve been thinking about it everyday for as long as I can remember. Even as a young kid it’s always been my goal/dream. Ive been working for the past 2 years to get my fat ass in shape and I feel I’m almost there. There’s only one thing that holds me back and that worry’s me. I’ve been in a relationship for the past 2 and a half years, and I do want to marry this girl. We’re practically already married (live together, split bills and shit like that) I guess my only fear is losing her. She is very supportive of me joining the military and always pushes me to do what I am passionate about. I do plan on joint the military in the near future it’s just I’m having a hard time getting out of my head about what will happen to my relationship and pulling the trigger. Any advice you can shed on a youngin? Great video!
If your relationship is destined to work, then it will work out between the two of you. You don’t want to look back later in life and regret not doing something your “dream job” as you put it. Just my 2 cents. Get after it brother.
Hey buck I’ve been really thinking hard about trying for sfas, but I’ve been wanting to go to ranger school first. Should I go to ranger first or go ahead and try sfas?
Hey Buck, I have a question? I know that If you speak another language already, you can skip language school. However let's say that you are learning language before you join military and you can speak some of it but you still got to learn, can you choose to continue learning that language in language school??
My wife is my biggest hater. Can’t tell if she legitimately doesn’t believe in my physical capabilities or if she just doesn’t want me to go for it. Lol
