This video gave me joy! Thank Reagan. I'm sure your Dad has told you -- we starved. As a 2LT (single, over 5) I got $205 base plus $110 jump pay a month. Couple of bucks more when deployed in combat. I'm so glad they pay you guys something livable now. DOL, Brother.
@@TheWhippingPost I'm a lifelong republican who served in the '80's. When it comes to military pay, I'm inclined to agree. He got a ton of credit for the raise in 1982 (~15% as I recall), but raises through the rest of his term were simple cost-of-living adjustments. At the same time, he cut the subsidies for things like the Commissary and PX. I don't know what it worked out to in terms of effective compensation, but I wasn't impressed.
In Australia we have Commandos, SAS and Clearance Divers. All are paid well by military standards (from memory an SAS Trooper is on over $100k inside of Australia). However the Private Sector pays much more, so retention has been a big issue especially during GWOT. Less hours and double the pay, which obviously the military cannot match.
Can you do a video on stress/fight or flight management? This is for reacting cool and calm when shit hits the fan for everyday people. Such as a dude trying to rob you or fight you in a bar etc
Great vid. As a former 11c, it would nice if you could do a video on how many guys are going back into the Army. Also maybe something on the status of the world and how the Army needs MEN to defend our country. IMO it’s not a matter of IF, but WHEN? The Sergeant Major of The Army just recently said that he thinks we’re in a 1939 type moment and time frame. I’ve been out for a long time now and a little older than you. I’ve considered going back in for awhile now. I’ve talked to a Ranger Recruiter and a 18x recruiter. So I’m starting to work out again and will go back depending on what happens on Nov 5. SF dudes are a different breed, but in a good way. Thanks for your sacrifice. Most have no clue! 💯💪
Do you have a link on him talking about that? I actually 💯 agree with that statement, I’ve been parroting that myself. That’s actually a video I’ve been mulling around in my head.
@@ValhallaVFT It’s The Jedburgh Podcast video posted 3 weeks ago. Name of video= Army’s Top Sergeant on Modern Warefare & Recruiting Tactics. He says a lot without saying it, if you know what I mean. But he tells the game plan for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. It’s a good listen. Side note- I live near 10th group and you SF dudes stand out like a sore thumb. But not in a negative way. Most can’t tell who you guys are. But you guys are the baddest dudes on this earth but pretending to fit in and be normal. Which is why I can tell who you guys are. Because that’s the same mentality and mindset I’ve had my entire life. Before and after the Army. I wished i would’ve never gone regular Army because the S bags and sham artists who were lazy and lacked integrity. Not a day has gone by that I don’t wish I was back in. But with high integrity soldiers like SF or Rangers. Obviously I’m a little older now. But when my kids were young, I wasn’t going to put them through deployments when my wife needed help. But my kids are older now and times are different, for obvious reason. But like I said I got to get my body right, and then go from there. One thing I do know. Is the Army needs real soldiers and not this new age era soldier, if you know what I mean. Anyways thank is never enough for the ultimate sacrifice guys like you did and do for those that have no clue. Keep up the good work and stay strong brotha. Much respect
@@ValhallaVFT Sounds good thanks brotha. Look forward to hearing your thoughts and if you have a similar perspective as I did. I had to rewind it a few times to see if what I heard was accurate. But i usually do that if something is said and is important and I want an accurate read out on what they said. But that’s just me because I try not to jump to conclusions right away. I like to process stuff and digest it from different angles and perspectives before I make a conclusion.
Hey brother! I very much love and appreciate all the info you've provided. I've been looking going into SF for awhile and you help solidified my decision! Would you be able to do a video om SF Warrant Officers? I'm very curious what they do
And $3700 for 14-23 month extension. Before taxes. Tier dropped. If you were still in you’d be like wtf… along with the other who declined the manifest to go resign over ‘there’.
It’s not enough when you consider all the out of pocket expenses, time spent away from family, not watching your kids grow up and risk vs reward. You beat the crap out of your body and pay for it as you age.
I’m very pleased to see you guys do well and wish it was more. For those saying the country can’t afford it, well we should start by stopping all benefits to illegals. There’s so much we spend money on that we should reallocate and take better care of our current and former military.
@terry_willis I'm not saying that every base is critical to remain open but thee are several countries where multiple bases make sense - naval bases obviously along coastal areas, air force bases in strategic locations for rapid response and army bases close to borders with non-ally nations and near major cities to help defend against enemy attack.
I would love to only pay $500/mo for medical insurance. I pay over $1,100/month for health only, no dental and this is just for me, no wife or kids. And, my deductible and coinsurance is high. I think your benefit is underestimated.
10 Years US Army, I was TAC-Ops for a medevac unit. Worked with mostly Airborne and a little Deta I dont know how each job today seem like it makes 120k a year somehow?
And if invested in tsp and pension after retirement then also working in the private sector and or private contracting to the government,….. the possibilities are endless
Hey man, do you still live in Washinton? I live in Washington, Also I'm 17 and thinking about going into SF in the Guard, what do you think about the Guard SF. thanks' your doing really great work here thanks' so much.
I’m not SF, but was an 11c. Don’t go NG imo. They are weekend warriors, and most are ate up. If you want to be around higher level of integrity soldiers, go active duty. Especially if going SF. But just my opinion.
@@ValhallaVFT Well I'm just a young man who once held a romantic perception of what military men's life must be like. Your videos were informative yet disillusioning. Greetings from overseas🫡🇪🇹
My final year as a GB, I was pulling in $125k from the army. not including any per diem on deployments. It’s not bad, but it took 20 years to make that amount. It’ll only take me a year or two to break 6 figures in my next career. Also not including pension + disability.
@@yurrr4338 there are plenty of jobs out there that are surprisingly similar to being a GB. And honestly, likely see more action more often that pays better with an additional pension. Why do you think I’ve retired from the army? I’m going to start that thing before I’m too old for it! There’s also no war, so I’m out! 💁🏻♂️
Saved you time: about $140K including the value of insurance. Less if you are just considering actual dollars paid. But if you are deployed there can be tax abatements
Love your channel and appreciate you putting this info out. I’ve been working in finance for the last 7 years at a job I hate but afraid to walk away from the paycheck. Been looking into 18x and didn’t know who to ask about pay. Thank you sir!
I’m curious to know what an Officer would make (0-3,0-4). Currently going in as an 11a, gonna make that an 18 when the time comes, curious on if that makes any difference. Although morally it shouldn’t
This is a nice perk but don’t go into the military if you care about money. If you can become a GB you can easily make $200k by 30 and $500k plus by 40 in the private sector. This without any risk of grievous bodily harm.
army pay (especially deployment) goes way further than civilian. It’s untaxed and there are far fewer deductions before health insurance is free (this is almost always hundreds of dollars a pay check) and shit like life insurance is dirt cheap. a $70000 army salary is more equivalent to like $100,000 civilian salary
Chipping in with some Australian info: I was a Lance Corp in 2CDO and on AU$135k p/a base (with free medical & dental). Pretty sure it’s gone up a little since I left in 2020. We also get rent assistance, basically half my rent was paid (and all of while deployed), or some assistance towards your mortgage. Deployments (usually 5mo) are completely tax free and you get a daily allowance ($200 a day in Afghan), so you’re usually coming home with roughly $70k saved, depending on rank and your spending habits. There was a small difference in pay between 2CDO & SAS during my time, but I’m pretty sure it’s all equal now.
@@ValhallaVFT this was no secret to us mate, we were quite aware of the massive pay difference between Aus & US SF while deployed, we all knew it was best not to mention it when we hung out (I think that was even included in some briefs I’ve received 😂). For perspective though, our cost of living is higher, ie: the median house price in Sydney is currently $1.6m (US$1.1m).
Was it misspoken or is BAH really E7+ for SF? On the conventional side of the house it's E6+, sometimes even E5 depending on duty station. Also where are the guys not getting BAH living? On post housing or barracks? Admittedly was under the impression everyone was getting BAH and the freedom to choose where they live after getting on a team. Great video though, as a normie infantry nco it's a bit shocking to see the pay gap for sure lol. We all know it's not the same but no one ever does the math on how different it actually is.
A little bit of an odd question, but what is promotion to E7 like for special forces? Is it automatic like E6 or is it supposed to be like reserved for team leaders or something?
@@ValhallaVFTOkay cool, thank you sir. Phenomenal video btw. Brilliant how you incorporate all the benefits too, and not just direct pay. I’ll make sure to watch all the ads for you as homage.
Asked this on a previous video but does anyone know if 3rd group is actively fighting off insurgency in Africa? Heard it’s bad over there w boko haram and shit
I'm so glad that you guys are being paid closer to what you're worth. I don't care if you're a cook "I'm just a cook", or an operator. You ALL deserve to pays at the top of your field. You all gave some, some of you have all. I'm forever in your debt, as every single one of you contributed to the remaining freedom I, and all patriots still have.
As an Aussie private in Infantry during my Iraq trip, I was pulling $4600 per fortnight (2 weeks) tax free (USD about $3125). Get back home, its halved and taxed.
My nephew is an 18B and we compared salaries. I was a fed agent GS-14 with 15 years on the job. He and I made about the same and about half of his salary was not taxed. Around $150k a year.
A Mass State Police 10yrs in, depending on barracks stationed ( yes they use the word barracks for regional stations around state ) is making 175K. If they work at the Logan Airport Barracks they are making 250 to 300K. After 30 yrs there pension would be 80% of their top 3 years earned. So top 3 comes out to 200k, pension would be 160k a year for the rest of there life.
In Australia Special Forces for what is expected, specialised training and unique capabilities they are under paid, but federal govt pension is good. They’re paid less than a skilled construction worker (working on a big build project) who does not have all the personal risks. When ex special forces soldiers are employed privately ie a security expert, their wages are significantly higher.
Many Police Department jobs in Cali pay well over $150,000/year and some over $200K a year in just base pay and various bonuses, NOT including benefits (medical, dental, vision, retirement etc) for bottom of the ladder patrol officers with 3.5 years of service. Hours worked are significantly less than military with many working 4 x ten hour shifts per week or 3 x 12 hour shifts per week. With overtime some cops can add another $100k + to their salaries. And most cops will never actually have to shoot their weapon even once during their whole career. Not an easy job and not respected by many folks but on average they earn a LOT more than career military, With a lot less time, or impact on their lives from deployments etc.
@@jaayjr2516 I'm old and my genes turn out to be poor. My respect and affection for my medical folks is high and worth every penny. Even as to the healthiest of us, one cannot make an appointment for an emergency.
Bro that’s not bad money at all.. I started at 20 as a state trooper in 91 for I think 25 g a year at 20 yoa and I thought I was on top of the world. I was like wait, I’m going to get paid to drive fast and get drink free coffee? I think when I retired at 45 it was about 85 a year. It wasn’t much.
Not nearly enough when you consider here in Australia the Queensland police force pay first year cops $100,000 and if you’re willing to work away from home and sporting events and assorted unpopular working times it’s $150,000+ rent, plus super annuation + 6 weeks paid leave + overtime. So a first year cop in Queensland could be on up to $175-200,000/year before tax
It a lot but not a lot. You are put in situations that a not even law enforcement put themselves in. I think the pay should be more substantial than that.
Being ex-service and looking at the specialised teams from the outside, the training you have to go through, deployments, separation from family, mental health etc etc etc all special ops team members should be on more money. I know for a fact that as personal security for various clients pays a truck load of $$$$ , it might be time for management in the military to ask.... what can we do to keep the spec ops teams in for longer.👍💪👍💪👍💪🇦🇺🐰
Given the odds of making the team, you guys are way underpaid. An average person with a basic education can earn $150k p/a in the U.S. and be home every night with the family. You just have to go for the higher paying jobs. Or start your own business.
