I am missing your videos. The weather has been horrible on the east coast of Canada and you are my substitute flying fix when I cannot fly myself. I will buy a T-shirt to help. This is my first comment ever about anything but I felt some encouragement is due. You do good work.

Thank you Travis! I have a lot going on in my life currently and something has to suffer so my youtube channel is it. Hopefully I can get back to it soon, I am just not feeling the motivation right now.

I have built three aircraft and know the joys and pains. I'm glad you are sharing your build. I will watch every step of the way. Thanks for showing your mistakes. I have had plenty. Thanks Tom

Enjoying the build. One thing I notice is resources...all your equipment and tools make this so much more doable. I imagine for the "garage builder" it is much harder. Love that we get to see this one come together!

It is definitely nice being able to go into a nice warm shop during the winter time and not having to wait for the heat to ramp up. I do love having the ability to do most anything I want when it comes to building airplane.

I’m note a pilot, but have been following your channel for awhile now. It’s amazing how you can put these planes down just about anywhere and you live in a perfect part of the country to do just that. And I’m blown away by your skill set in the shop and at the controls of your machines! Perhaps one day I’ll get to fly in a cub. Thanks for sharing with the YT world. Peace be with you.

For nutplate install I've found Knipex parallel jaw pliers squeeze solid countersunk #3 rivets perfectly. One of my favorite tools.
@mauleguy

I have them and have used them that way also. They also work in places you can not use a squeezer.

I appreciate the fact that you literally know every nut, every bolt, every weld, etc., etc., etc., in your airplanes. I mean after all the attention to detail you exhibit in all of your builds adds to the complete confidence anyone should have in your airplanes. BTW, I liked the reference to “Got Rocks” . Another one of your Cubs that I loved!!! Enjoying this series for sure!! Tell “Ron” to straighten up! LOL!!! P.S. I’m loving those shirts you sent to me and the DVD’s!!! Thanks for the quality merch!!! Every subscriber should buy at the very least two shirts and 2 caps in my humble opinion LOL!! 😂 They are tastefully designed and made with quality like your airplanes. They’re really very nicely done!!!The designs are just right. They aren’t like a body tattoo they’re just right!! Keep up the great work Brother!!!

Really enjoying these videos. Looking to incorporate a lot of these techniques for custom ag-uav builds here in the coming years.

For those angle pieces at 5:40. Since you're looking to bend away from the flange, you could just stretch the flange rather than cutting it. Simple way is to use a body hammer, the cross peen head, hit the flange where you want to stretch with a steel backer and the material will stretch and force a bend into the piece.

You remind me a lot of a buddy of mine, detail,detail,detail! His daughter ,when young, was pulling her wagon behind her bicycle with a pice of rope tied to the wagon handle. Seeing this, and the handle dragging on the ground when she slowed down (like a billion kids before her!) my friend called her to the garage and told her he was going to make her a hitch, 3 -4hrs later and missing 1 daughter a 3 point hitch was built lol.

Curious question Greg - have you ever considered putting in some bead rolls for rigidity, mainly in the foot area? Cons?
@mauleguy
@mauleguy 2 года назад
My experience with 2024-T3 it does not like to be bead rolled. It does not need it, there is plenty of support there anyway.

Greg thanks for the video. Have you considered Oratex for some of the interior? Interested to hear your thoughts.
@mauleguy
@mauleguy 2 года назад
I used Oratex in silver color on Bushwacker for the upper area. The area that started at the rear window height and above. It worked fine but in this airplane with all the L-21 style glass it has no use. I would not do it below the L-21 glass because that area is going to get abused. If I need to I can always make a copy of an aluminum panel if it gets to beat up. Which I would seriously doubt.
@vincentmolloy5660
@vincentmolloy5660 2 года назад
Hey Greg. Dont you have a stretcher and shrinker that you could use to shape those angle pieces. Should be a more rigid piece than cutting and drilling them. Probably save you a bit of time to. Nice video anyhow. I've built a few planes myself. Everything takes time and you can't really put a value on that either.
@mauleguy
@mauleguy 2 года назад
I do, but I did not need strength for them and I can drill and cut faster then I can shrink. I don't like the looks of something that has been worked in the tool unless it is cleaned up and that takes time. I use this same method for making the inner windshield strip for the windscreen. The outer strip I will shrink and stretch then as required to make a nice part. That is just me so YMMV.
@vincentmolloy5660
@vincentmolloy5660 2 года назад

Kitplanes are reletivly simple, yet a lot of work, time and mindless effort to build. It's hard to Imagine how at one time they could build 16 B-17s ..Per day!! during the war. It boggles the mind.

@AN2Felllla
@AN2Felllla 2 года назад
Wouldn't that defeat the point of a 4 place Cub?
@mauleguy
@mauleguy 2 года назад
I am not but you did figure that out. The reason I want the seat up front with me is for CG when hauling a heavy load. I would rather have the passenger next to me for that one reason. Other then that I really like the center seat and putting passengers behind me, out of my way:))
