Do you ever wonder why your kitty wants to nibble your houseplants? There's a reason cats injest grass and other plants...it's healthy for them! Safe grasses for cats include wheat, barley, oat, and flax, and these are easily found in pet stores or online. Yes, my cats Love wheat grass! It still gets knocked over & broken though. I wish there was a weighted non-breakable container for the grass available. One of my cats named Jakey LOVES pretty much Anything green! He eats romaine lettuce, mixed baby lettuces, arugula, baby bock choy, spinach, you name it, & he eats it! He even cries out for it when he hears me in the kitchen prepping for human meals & demands his share! Lol!

We once had a cat who loved buttered lima beans. Otherwise, our cats have never taken to greenery. We'd certainly be happy to give it to them if they showed interest, but whenever I make a salad, they turn up their noses and walk away.

Grass doesn't require a particularly deep pot.. A flat tray (a used food container) 2 or 3 inches deep with a few drainage holes while be a lot harder to knock over.. Not impossible but way harder

Our Sing Sing loves all kinds of veggies, too! That's him in the video being served salad on a silver plate. When we chop vegetables he begs on his hind legs. The other cats think he's crazy.

My cat loved spider plants. I’d buy her one occasionally. She’d chew on it. Of course they didn’t last forever. She was so thrilled though she’d proudly lay next to her plant and take naps there.

I have cat grass in the bay window and both cats love it. Yes, they do sometimes throw up but it’s just watery and grass.

this is great! my cat needs to eat grass daily and my apt mgr thinks it's only because of feeling sick. I've been here 10 yrs and they are now saying cats cannot be permitted outdoors. So, I'm growing it indoors...

It's not easy being 50 years old and going on video (isn't that sad we women feel that way?), especially when most of what you see are dewy, un-wrinkled teenagers in social media! Hi Caroline... Hi Everybody.... Today was Shopping Day, and so I remembered to go to the Home Depot Garden section. There was no Wheat Grass seed, so I found the person in charge of the Garden Section, a Girl that had been working as Waitress and she remembered me because I'm a good tipper. Well, we got busy with our phones and figured that Fescue Grass was okay for Cats, and it also thrived on being a bit in the shade, and so I could keep it out on my balcony close to the door even if there is rarely any direct sun light. I got 4 pots for rotating, and planted one pot. I got Grass Starter Soil stuff, that doesn't look much like Dirt, but I suppose it might do. I hope it doesn't infuse the Grass with any nasty toxic chemicals. So I did a quick search and found a quick answer: There's no worry about pesticides or herbicides, chemical fertilizers, or anything else."

Hi Leo! I think the grass will be fine. Before i started growing my own I would just pull it from the yard (we don't use any pesticides either). I can't wait to hear how your kitties enjoy the grass when it starts to grow!

@@KittenSchool It's only been two days and the Grass has grown way outside the pots. It seems that the little kids on the Common Balcony decided that the mix of a Pot with Dirt in it within a few feet of the Big Bowl of Animal Water I put out (yeah, the Islanders sometimes will think of putting out scraps for all the Boonie Dogs and Cats but nobody thinks of Water, and all the mud puddles dry up during the Dry Season from Feb through April. So yeah, two days in a row I came out to feed Angie my Outdoor Girl and met with Play Projects that screwed up both the Grass Pot and the Water (thank God I took your advise about Rotation and I just pot out the first pot. ) But taking the trash out I noticed the Little Farm and Nursery that the Old Man Upstairs set up on a Real Estate No Man's Land to the side of our parking lot. I could put my Grass Pots up on one of his table and nobody messes with his stuff. So Upstairs I went because he was sitting out up there. He had his crutches out. Gout! So we spoke about that, while I held my empty clay pot. The Gout pain is bad enough that it is radiating up to his knee (yeah, a few years back I had a Double Hip Joint Replacement, and so a lot of pain you can feel in your legs is phantom radiated pain and it takes some deductive skills to find out where the REAL pain is ... with my Hips the pain was never in my actual hips until Late Stage when the Hips could no longer figure out how to send the pain somewhere else. He asked me if I had any meds. Well, I thought about it and I had a mostly full jar of Tylenol and mostly full jar of Ibuprofen, and so I thought, "Heck, give him your pills and he can't refuse to watch a few more pots, could he? So, yeah, Caroline, YOUR VIDEO has gotten some nice old Island Guy some medication for his Gout. Your Goodness has a Ripple Effect.

Thanks for another great video. Honestly, we've never given our cats grass and they certainly are healthy and live long lives, but I do think about it from time to time and have been tempted to try it. Maybe I'll pick up a pot of that ready grown stuff to see how it goes. Then, if kitties take to it we'll dive into home grown as shown here. That's definitely the best way to go. I'm sure buying the ready grown is much more expensive.

Hi Caroline! My female cat never eats grass. But my male cate is always crazy for grass! I mean he will scream and jump if he sees me holding some grass. I guess he has some digestive issues as he always vomits brownish liquid after eating grass. And he poops 3 to 4 times a day, which I find unusual. I've tried different diets but doesn't seem to work. And he only eats fish never chicken. I fear he might develop some illness in future and vets in my country are not well equipped to handle that.

Hello Fatima! It sounds like your male cat craves grass for some reason, maybe it helps his stomach? One of my cats has similar issues, poops a lot more than the others and tends to sometimes have loose stools. I made sure he didn't have any parasites, and he didn't, so now I make sure to feed him food with good fiber in it. Sometimes I mix a little bit of cooked squash or pumpkin into his food and that helps. I guess it's just like humans, some have digestive issues although no one knows why. Hopefully this isn't a sign of an illness and your kitty will continue to live a healthy and long life. Sending lots of purrs to you!

Hi Caroline, Yeah, now that you mention it, I DO have sun on my balcony for a few hours a day, and so I really should put out some Pots of Grass. Heck, I used to have potting soil and pots in my Junk and Boxes Room... I'll have to dig through there and look. I used to be able to find your Blog... I still tell everybody about your Three Part Sing Sing Story (was the title "Sing Sing's Gone Missing" ... but, yeah, the nucleus of a great Screen Play, considering how many Cat People would go see such a Movie... the story could be expanded into Imagination, supposing that Sing Sing the whole time was going through his Nine Lives with hair raising adventures, as well as funny stuff. But, yeah, Sandra Bullock will have a hard time playing you, as intense and distraught as you might be, and then the Man who let Sing Sing get away, well, the screenwriters wouldn't let him get away with that, would they?
