Thanks for the balanced view, unlike the others who thinks we asked for more Ai and should be excited for 128gb in 2024, with an apple level price tag.
Right? I would never even consider a Pro variant before just because of the size, but now I'm tempted to go ahead a buy one just to show Google that the demand is there, although I much prefer the matte side rails of the base model and do not really need the extra features.
I’d have to see what the battery life is like first. The non-pro pixels are usually average at best for battery, and I’m worried that the pro specs could be an issue. It’s the same reason the iPhone pro is really the worst-selling iPhone.
@@JB-11844700 is reasonable for a small sized phone..XL has only another 300mah and since it's display is larger it consumes more battery so in real life both pro and XL would last the same because of the size.
I bought the P9 pro XL. They gave me $699.00 for my trade in and a $200.00 Google store credit. Go pixel ! It was my choice, you do whatever you choose.
@@CarlosGarciaAlvarez the US deals are amazing everyone else like Europe get the shit end of the stick pixel fold mint condition £481 disgrace it was £1799 only 11 months ago
I absolutely hate that they went with the mirror polish sides on the pro. The matte sided on the 'lesser' 9's looks much more premium. Especially after a few weeks when the pro is covered in fingerprints and scratched.
@@TheFingerMove it's not irrelevant. if it were, google wouldn't worry about using premium materials, since a plastic phone would be cheaper to manufacture.
I 100% agree with you. The chrome finish gets nicks so easily! Even if its in a case! My pixel 8 pro was in a case since day 1, and when i remove the case to clean my phone, i notice some stress points that the case causes on the sides. And at some points, i notice scratches. Im so annoyed that google keeps designing their phones with chrome finish. The matte/brush finish would make the phone more durable. Every year i hope google introduce the brushed finish to all the models, but no, they had to distinguish the models with the bloody chrome finish. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 i cant even explain how annoying and frustrating it is.
@mysticery I feel exactly the same. We just got over the curved screen bullshit aswell. Polished frames are the next to go! Bring back micro sd card support and the headphone jack, and I'll be happy
I'm not planning to upgrade my 8 Pro this year just because I'm holding out for the TSMC chips in a few years. As much as I love my Pixel, Tensor is the biggest letdown in these phones. The fact that it's average in terms of battery and performance and still produces stellar performance is a testament to how good Google has optimized the Pixel experience. The Pixels are one flagship processor away from becoming the best Android phone on the market, imo.
Is it really that bad? Do you not get good battery life? I'm going for the pixel 9 pro xl only because I've had enough of iphones. Trading my 15pro max. I think it will be more than enough for me I don't Intend go upgrade until the pixel 11 as TSMC new archecture will have problems especially since it will be a new nanometre.
@@Conannnnn that's the thing, it's not bad, just not amazing. From what I've heard the Snapdragon chips + modem are much better with efficiency. Tensor's a step behind. Not a massive step but still. However Pixel software more than makes up for it imo.
@@solipsisticmisfit true and while Tensor does the AI stuff it's made for good enough, it's not a top shelf processor (yet). But that's because so far they've been stuck using an existing base design manufactured by Samsung. The move to TSMC would allow for the first fully custom designed chip from Google. That will potentially offer much better performance and efficiency.
Couple of things that irk me: 1. It's evident the best part of Gemini AI is tucked behind a paywall so it's nice that everyone gets it free to begin with but then when they lose it it'll feel worse off. 2. The pricing is messed up because last years 8 Pro was bumped to £999, which means they should've kept this years 9 Pro XL at £999 (as it's roughly the same size), and put the regular Pro at £849 which is what the 7 Pro was priced at, which is also a rather comfortable price point. So the P9 at £699, the P9P at £849, and the Pro XL at £999.
The 9 series looks ok , and I like the squared off sides and flat screen, I dunno if I really need to jump to the new model from my 8 pro , it still does the job fine , and I’m still not convinced in my use I would utilise the AI stuff anyway . I get prompts from Google fairly frequently asking if I’d like to swap the Google assistant for Gemini, the assistant does most of what I need. And I don’t need to pay a subscription fee to use it.
@@littlebigmarc go for it i traded my 14 plus got a 500 trade in. I preordered the obsidian 9 pro in 256gb. I also traded in my apple watch 7 8 and got the pixel watch 3 also in obsidian. 45mm
9 pro is the most appealing model to me. i opted for p6 instead of p6p back then due to the form factor but without the telephoto lens, it is painful to take zoom in photo, and 2yrs later i got the p8p, happy with the purchase but wish it has a smaller form factor. so p9p it definitely the best take google has made!! hopefully they will keep this line in future
The upgrade from the P7P to the P8P was barely aside from the 7 years of support. It will always be that way. Pixels arent gaming phones, they're built for camera and AI/ Google assistant
Software updates are pretty good on the new pixels but ye, I won't upgrade till pixel 10 with new cpu. It's just sad I won't get more than 2 more major updates for my 7 pro.
Nobody target the last year buyers as their new phone main target, they are give you the longer support, becaude they admit it the changes are slowed down, since the phone have almost everything already, hard to put a new and worthy upgrade inside, even the design changes sliwed down, they have datas how often the users switch devices, and they are only target the big enough changes in that (3-6 years) period, so the next phone what the average customer will buy will be enough different from the previous model.
The tensor performance is what gets me. Charging that kind of money for a chip that can’t compete with what some phones put out a year to 2 years ago is a travesty. With snapdragon and apple chips you know you’re phone is good for 2-3 years if not more when it comes to processing speed during that time.
I like the aesthetic of the P9P phones but upgrades wise, to the hardware, there doesn't seem to be enough there over the 8 Pro I'm using now. I feel like they are saving a bigger overhaul for next year's phones.
Yes but even next year the new archicture might run hot but hope they get it right. I'm trading my 15oro max for the pixel 9 pro xl. Iphones are boring.
2nd the motion for this. And the fact those AI features in apps and camera will soon be available also on our 8 pros soon since they are like much alike
I am not able to form a "complete" opinion about how to think about making a flagship android phone purchase, because on one hand the Pixels cost more this year than they did last year - purely hardware to hardware the upgrades seem minimal. On the other hand, they both will potentially get 7 years of OS updates, not just security updates. Oh and I almost forgot that the Pixel 8 Series & Pixel 9 series now both have launched with Android 14, so now I am thinking they're both going to see end of life software updates at the same time? On top of that I don't know if Google will maintain the Pixel Feature Drop for the full duration of OS updates (hardware limitations aside). The time scale we're looking at is unprecedented, I hope the coverage of new launches take these things into account.
At&t has a deal until Aug. 21, if you have ANY previous gen Pixel (ANY CONDITION), Pixel 9 Pro XL is free. Or if you have any other phone in good working condition without screen cracks, 9 Pro XL is free. I just availed this deal and ordered 9 XL Pro which will be delivered on 22nd. Phone will also include 2TB of cloud storage along with Gemini Advanced, Can't beat this deal, looking forward to it.
Ordered the 9 Pro XL for me and the 9 for my wife, to replace our 6 Pro and 6. Both came with £100 off the 256 GB offerings and a year of Gemini Advance. I've never had a problem with the Tensor chip and although I use my phone regularly I couldn't be called a heavy user, so I don't have overheating issues. Looking forward to getting the phones and finally ditching that optical fingerprint sensor. There are definitely some features I want to have a go with and others that I'm sure I won't use. I am a bit of a Pixel fanboy having had the 2 XL, 4 and 6 Pro.
I have a 128g 8 pro. With over 300 apps currently installed and still have over 50g available. I have hard time understanding why just the average user would need much more. The only thing I can think of is maybe people take many more pictures than me. But even then the old ones can be backed and removed
@@marshallstacy6243if you shoot photos in RAW or if you want to store music or movies locally without reencoding. Apps get more and more bloated, nowadays most Apps are at least 100mb with some basic ones even 200-300mb. This just adds up fast especially when you want to use the phone for 7 years.
Braindead take. The 128GB version is just another option for people who would rather save money than be forced to pay more for 256GB. If you want more memory, then buy more fucking memory.
Hats off to you for addressing the cheap 128GB storage offered by Google. THAT itself tells me that your reviews are unbiased. As for me I always wait for 6 months to a year and buy their 512GB in the used market for less than half their initial price.
Yep, for me the biggest disappointment is the high price for that base nodel of just 128GB. Even the same price for the 256GB is already pushing it. Great first impressions review.
I moved away from OnePlus because I didn't like there software and there mediocre camera, but there hardware was amazing so I bought the pixel 8 pro in Oct 2023 and it was a nice experience, only thing annoyed me was the fingerprint reader, heating issues and that I had to put my photos in the cloud to use magic eraser. I recently upgraded to the new pixel 9 pro XL, still has the same issues but an improved fingerprint reader, google is slowly getting better, but they need to improve there hardware it is a pro phone after all, i expect more from a big company.
How much of an upgrade would a Pro 9 XL be over a Samsung S22U? Google are offering 370 trade in on the S22U which is pretty good seeing as I paid 900 for it at launch. Its tempting me, but I have concerns over that Tensor
I'll wait for the reviews. Currently owning a Pixel 7 Pro, and I don't really see the need for an upgrade. I'll wait for the reviews, but for now, those points you mentioned are things I'm concerned about as well.. Yes, the new design is nice. But AI doesn't really matter to me, and probably won't matter for non-English speakers for a while either. Gemini as it stands is nowhere near a replacement for my Google Assistent, as long as I can't even do basic things like currency conversion yet.. And the yet-another-euro-pricebump is making these phones just not really competitive. I'm not spending 1320 USD for a phone with 128GB of Storage. I don't know, I might go sammy again and get the S24 Ultra as my carrier is running some decent deals on those.
I've read that the Gemini Nano also exists on the Pixel 8/8 Pro, and the 8 can also have offline AI, so what makes the onboard AI of the Pixel 9 so special or it's the same?
The leaked benchmarks for the Tensor G4 are only about on par with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 inside the Nord 4, which doesn't even fully utilise that chip. It makes the Kirin 9000S and Kirin 9010, which are notoriously slow, seem decent.
@@Myke001 I understand that. But when "full reviews" are done, it is Very rare anyone talks about the modem. They act like its only function is camera.

Honestly, iphones has had the best panoramic camera. The pano are so clear and detailed its insane and i had one taken on a pixel 6 or 8, and i could easily zoom in and the details it captured was mind blowing. Surprised that pixel decided to invest time into pano after all these years, hopefully its really good.
If I have to get a newer Pixel, then I will opt for the Pixel 9 in Obsidian color, mainly because the Google logo on it is silver/grey, which makes it more visible compared to the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, which have black Google logos on their backs, which is disappointing to see. The Pixel 9 gives me iPhone 4 black color vibes, which had a silver Apple logo on its back that looked so classy. Specs-wise, the difference isn’t that much between the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, especially for basic users. My choice is clear.
3 months ago I got 16GB/512GB OnePlus 12 for 750USD and am damn happy. Really good cameras and battery life. Sure Pixels got better software processing for cameras, but that's about it.
I like the smaller size from the Pixel 9 Pro. Thought of upgrading from my Pixel 7 Pro. But the offers even with trade in here in Europe are awful and it is at least not worth for me to upgrade it.
Just Pre-Ordered my Pixel 9 Pro XL 512gb. I’m upgrading from my Pixel 6 Pro 128gb. I’m excited and got a great price and discount for my trade-in. Total cost is $500.00 over 24 months 🎉 t-mobile promotion and 500 for my Pixel 6 Pro🎉
Man my current smartphone is 5,5 years old and is really shows its age now. Idk whether to go for the Pixel 9 or if I can wait another year for the 10. I feel like the 9 series will be neglected rather quickly in terms of features, as next year there will be the new fully custom TSMC chip and they already gave this generation features that the 8 series doesn't get...
Im in the same position. I think about buying some older a series pixel and wait for the 10 or 11 if they dont nail it on the first year. But I hope their 10 will be good from the get go and they might do something special if its 10th phone.
Man I'm in the same position, been using the OnePlus 7T for over four years now. Don't know if I shall upgrade to the Pixel 9 Pro or wait for the next series...
No need to wait . All reviews tend to hide that its Too expensive for an mid range cpu , too slow when you use gps app or cam app or any heavy app . The user experience which was the strength of google becomes his weakness
Instead of being trend setters Google remain cheap skaters.. They are at heart and advertising company that wants to make money with minimal skin in the game. They don't believe in themselves and are not ready to put their power behind their hardware. That's why half xss attempts like Tensor chips and trying to fool customers with AI while slipping in 128 GB storage. Hope that's UFS 3.1.
Alex, your content is excellent and I look forward to viewing your videos, often many times over. But please say autumn not fall, when you make vids on this channel, which is essentially for your UK audience. 👍
I was considering buying this but the deal breaker for me was the processor. Planned TSMC Tensor G4 may be available in an upcoming revision of Pixel but for now the Samsung foundry chipset isn't worth upgrading from my Samsung flagship.
I agree. I bought the regular s24 for my wife and the camera is unimpressive compared to my s21 ultra. I guess only the ultra line gets the good cameras. I might buy the 9 pro to upgrade the s21u
@@Mastermnd1 Oh, even Ulta isn't a match to my P8P. Especially 5x. Oversaturated, cartoon-ish indoors. Terrible postprocessing. That's why I bought Pixel. I'd not be switching to P9P if P8P was smallers. I bought it just because of zoom. If a smartphone doesn't have a zoom lens it's dead to me. Luckily I bought my P8P for 770€ which is okay-ish price. So I'm just gonna wait for the price drop on P9P
i want one but i just cant justify the 1300 plus for the XL. I have 8 Pro. I may just have to skip this one. I really don't care about all the AI stuff
i would wait for the google 10 pro XL Theres no reason to upgrade the 16GB ram doesnt make a difference if your rocking a G4 Tensor aka not Snapdragon wich sucks The AI -> That no one will use And The Apple Iphone design lol
If you're happy with your phone, use it until you aren't... My pixel 5 is just now starting to show its age, I'm snagging a 9 pro. If I wasn't having issues with my pixel 5(mostly my camera glass cracked and the only replacements are crappy plastic), I would use it for another year.
I have the pixel 6 Pro and just purchased the pixel 9 Pro. I got $450 trade-in with $200 in-store credit. My battery on my 6 Pro is garbage. So definitely worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.
I have a 6 Pro. I wouldn't get an upgrade if I didn't need it. The rear camera no longer works, neither does the flashlight, and it has a problem keeping a charge. There are other issues but those alone are enough for me to justify an upgrade. However, if I didn't have any of these issues I would just keep my 6 Pro until it dies.
Yes. Im on pixel 6 pro and I don't think it's worth upgrading a phone unless 3 or 4 generations have passed. A new phone every year or 2 years isn't enough development.
@@landenmoudy5749 I have pixel 6 pro too... are you going to upgrade to the 9 one? Also for some reason, the 9 pro and xl model don't seem that MUCH better from the 9 base model to justify a $200 price difference.
I do like that screenshots won't populate in my photos app or downloads folder anymore, that was always so damn annoying. It's nice that Google is finally making strides to streamline that, I can't believe it took this long! I wish ALL phone companies would stop pushing the AI digital assistant like Siri, or "Hey, Google" and now the Gemini, or whatever the Samsung one is. They're a gimmick feature. They NEVER really work as advertised and frankly just makes the phone more bloated than necessary. AI does have it's place on phones, but should remain in more specialized apps like for photo editing, or the camera app to help us take better photos, web searches and stuff like that, but not be as a main selling point for the phone. The fact that Google put their main new feature behind a paywall is honestly super cringe and I hope no one pays for it especially with ChatGPT being completely free. Though, I'm still willing to give the Pixel 9 Pro XL a try this year, as I do like the larger phones and Google does seem to have a nice ecosystem. I'm also looking for a pure Android experience this time around. I'm kind of over the Samsung One UI. I do notice my S22 ultra starting to slow down and Google maps on the device has started to get buggy, so it might be time for an upgrade, maybe I can do a trade-in.
I want to upgrade from my 8 Pro based on the looks alone. But I will probably wait unless I am able to get some kind of crazy deal(Can't do the trade in yet)
Hi, will you be reviewing samples you bought yourself anonymously from a store, or will they be review sample type reviews? Hoping for a warts and all type review. Please, unless there is more interest than I anticipate, don't spend long on the AI features, I feel life is too short, I want to spend less time playing around on my devices, not more. If I can make a request, I'll be looking for reviews that review it/them using Motioncam. That's something that would interest me a lot and make the review stand out from a very large crowd. In the end, I put myself on the waiting list for the old 8 Pro model for an amazing price, the catch being it won't be delivered until Sept 15th! I see it as a stopgap until the 10 series, if the 10 series uses larger sensors.
i want to see an improved 360° photo sphere feature, with maybe with a full feature detection and matching step to sfm(structure from motion) the images and then align them better by also using some ai stuff like magic eraser in-painting model to make the seems cleaner.
I have a constantly overheating google pixel 7 and am looking if a pixel 9 would be a good choice for some longer time without overheating. Im still a bit disappointed with the Tensor chipset.
I don't use cloud and I am only using 71 gb of my storage. Of course I don't really store much on my phone. Just because it seems to little for you doesn't mean it is for others. Now the price on the other hand is a different story.
Yeah, I don't really need that much space. I'm currently using 27 out of 128, and that includes 15 of "System". Maybe it only matters for people who play 3D games or record videos.
Im waiting for one ui 7 to see if Ill go for google or samsung because samsung is starting to make certain things less android so if it continues Im gonna go for the pixel 10 pro
Ive still got the Pixel 5 still and im kooking for an update. Was wanting to try and push it to the Pixel 10 but my partners P5 just bricked itself and mines been doing similar things to hers before it died. Im glad the 9 just got announced but i probably won't use all the AI stuff, especially not to its fullest capacity. Would y'all recommend waiting for the 9Pro or just get the 8Pro cheaper now that the newest gen will be out in a month?
Seems to be the trend this year for Google and Apple. No reason to get the Pixel 9 or the iphone 16 pro as next years models are going to have bigger changes that warrant an upgrade.
Anyone held the Pixel 9 Pro with one hand, does it feel "top heavy" because of the camera bump? The reason for my concern is that Pixel 7 screen was 6.3 inch and it felt as if top part was heavy when help with one hand(couldn't use it comfortably). The Pixel 8 is 6.2 inch, so it is a bit less of an issue to hold. How about Pixel 9 Pro?
@XDA Wait in *3-5 months* time as the price of these #Pixel9Series *drop* significantly (like most Android devices). By that time most of the launch date software bugs and hardware manufacturing issues would've already been fixed. Could've been the *very issue why they weren't* loaded with the latest #Android15?? The AI features have only been tested fully on Android 14. (Watch the glitch during the Pixel event). Now it's only 6 years of update support (instead of 7) cos it still comes with last year's OS. In'nit, the very reason you're buying these new devices is to get the latest and greatest features *already included* ?? Why would you *want to pay extra* for an AI subscription?? Isn't that the latest feature of these phones?? So early adopters are always paying more for less. Agreed, with all the media consumption and AI features @Google should've provided 256 GB as the base level storage. The #PixelFold2 is still a *niche* item for its $1800 price tag. It still continues to run behind their Pro Series in hardware specs. Why would you pay more for lesser specs? And few weeks later you'd be bored opening and closing the Fold.
The trade in value is also worse than previous years. $490 for my 256 GB P8 is laughable. I was debating getting the 1 TB model 9 Pro but I'd still be out over $1000 with trade in. So no thanks.
Am I one of the few people who isn't maxing out 128gb of storage? I'm just barely over half that. And they explain that it comes with 2tb of cloud storage.
@@ssaini5028 I heard it gets really hot and terrible cell coverage. I ordered the pixel 9 xl i feel bit gutted now after hearing this horror stories. How is your phone doing any over heating or cell issues ?
Only reason I want a P9P is that my P8P can't hold a screen protector for longer than I can hold a glowing hot coal. Idk wtf they did on the phone, my P6P and P7P never had that issue and otherwise the upgrade wouldn't matter to me since I run graphene anyways.
Anybody know if they have any thermal management inside these phones? They look solid, but I'm not down for any overheating bullshit like some previous pixels.
I have the pixel 8 pro . The panorama on it is prob the best of any phone . It's star mode is also the best of any phone but only if you use a stand . Other than that it's camera is not good
