To add onto why King Rhoam was buried in that specific place, from that spot you can have a clear view of Hyrule Castle. Maybe the reason why the Sheikah buried him there was so he could watch over Hyrule Castle even in death.

I like to imagine the king was a mountain man at heart, and it was his wish to be burred somewhere remote. where his soul can forever gaze upon nature unspoiled by civilization. the Shiekah wanted him somewhere equivalent to a royal tomb, but thanks to the calamity the king got his humble wish.

Remember, the Rito have the shortest lifespans of all the major races of Hyrule. All of the Rito alive today were not around during the great calamity. Therefore, they probably don’t know anything about that sailcloth. It was probably gifted to the king 100 years ago as a peace offering. Judging by the events of age of calamity, it seems the Rito don’t have as much of a close relationship to the royal family as the other races and that they keep to themselves for the most part.

Paraglider
@avereynakama9854
@avereynakama9854 2 года назад
I think you might be onto something. I mean, the Gorons made armor so Hylians could visit Death Mountain and the Zora used to make flippers for a similar purpose. Before the Calamity, maybe all peoples were a lot closer. Maybe the Rito did used to make paragliders so non Rito could "fly" with them. I guess they haven't bothered cuz Vah Medoh was preventing anyone from flying near their village and then eventually forgot about the practice altogether.
@Retro_Red
@Retro_Red 2 года назад
Maybe they just make the cloth. The Hylians just use them to make gliders.
@gabriellockwood2780
@gabriellockwood2780 Год назад
"Rito have the shortest lifespan of all the Races..." Sure, but that's still stupidly long, at least to us, regular humans... Remember, this is a fantasy game/World, where the basic "Human" Race is Elvish in nature. Hylians usually live around 110~130 years, as a baseline. [While the LotR Elves live nearly 1,000~5,000 if lucky.] Gorons seem to live nearly as long, maybe longer, between 150~300 years. [With exceptional cases in some of the older games, and the Goron Elder in BotW.] Zora seem to live around 100~200* years, as their aging cycles are longer than Hylians. [King Dorephan has been the King of the Zora since BEFORE the Great Calamity, and Sidon was a tiny baby when the Calamity struck 100 years ago...] Rito would have to live a MINIMUM of 100 years, maybe a tad longer. [The ELDER of the Village could be pushing it a bit, but can still identify the Shiekah Slate. Hell, Teba recognized the Shiekah Slate, and personally knew Revali, so Teba's been around AT LEAST 100~ years.] The Gerudo have a 100-year cycle for Men, so the rest of the species has at least 100 years, maybe we can push that to around ~200, so the species has time to "replenish" the gene pool with pure Gerudo blood?... [Because a majority of the current BotW Gerudo are mixed. There hasn't been a new Male, most likely because of *"Dehydrated Gannondorf"* ...] The Kokiri//Korok seem to be immortal, until certain conditions occur. [Or they used to be immortal in the past games, and are now Spirits???] And finally, most Monsters are trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth because of the Blood Moon, so... yeah...

The Lynel theory is an interesting one! I could definitely see the idea of them being unwilling prisoners being true, but also very tragic Imagine you are captured by Ganon’s forces and taken to a dark mage who intends to “enlist you” into Ganon’s army. Upon casting the dark spell, it is so incredibly painful that you black out… only to reawaken hours later in the form of a Lynel. The dark mage is thrilled at his success, and, gifting you some of the finest weapons they have, attempts to command you as he would a Bokoblin. But your intellect is unchanged, even if your form is. Instead of listening to his orders, you attack your captor and kill him, and then flee the scene, hoping that you’ll find a way to change back. Only to find yourself falling off a cliff due to not being used to your new body… Your body bruised and broken, you now instead resign yourself to your death, a fate that will at least free you from your monsterish new form. But instead, during that same night, the blood moon rises, and restores all your strength, almost against your will. Regardless of where you wander in the coming months, you cannot rejoin society, as people attack or flee from you on sight. A few brave souls manage to greviously wound you a few times. Your instinct to fight remains intact, despite sometimes wishing to die, and so none of those travelers actually survive your encounter, save one experienced Sheikah blade master, who actually does succeed in taking your life… Only for your coma-like sleep after death to be ended abruptly when the next Blood Moon revives you. …and so, impossible to permanently be killed, or to kill yourself, or to find someone who could help change you back… you instead resign yourself simply to find the most solitary place you can be. Where you can live in relative peace, even if alone. Your emotional pain cannot be healed. But at the very least, your physical pain can be reduced by hiding. As years pass, your mind settles in to a more territorial nature; because the more things that bother you, the more pain you receive. So you spend your time driving away anyone who approaches, and just hope you can simply rest and eat during most of your days… By the time a certain hero approaches you, it’s been too long. You lived perhaps a few decades as a human… but now, so many more decades or even centuries of life and death leads everything you can feel to tell you, “I am a Lynel.” The glint of light coming from his pristine blade is beautiful. You’re unsure why it makes you pause moreso than against any other opponent. It seems to be something you remember hearing about, a long, long time ago. But once he lifts the blade above his head and sends a beam forth, flying towards your face, your musings instantly vanish and your instinct kicks back in. Somehow, this traveler is more experienced (or at least, lucky) than anyone you’ve ever faced. He becomes the second person to ever take your life… Of course, you come back, as you always do. Yet, every so often, the lone traveler reappears, the shining blade in hand, and fights you in another round of combat. Rarely, he flees the scene, but almost always he kills you again and takes your weapons. He even uses your own old weapons against you from time to time. One day, you realize how long it’s been since you’ve seen your odd rival. And how long it’s been since the Blood Moon has risen. Has something changed? But only humans worry about such matters. You are a Lynel, as you’ve always been. And you will simply wait and prepare for your next fateful battle.

It's worth noting that the fish on the Rubber Helm has two references to Japanese folklore. The fish itself is identifiable as a catfish due to its whiskers, and the catfish is traditionally linked to earthquakes, with earthquakes believed to be caused by a giant catfish dwelling in the earth and regular catfish able to predict the coming of earthquakes. The pose of the fish with its tail in the air is the same as that of the pose used for shachihoko statues on the roofs of Japanese buildings. The shachihoko is a mythological fish that is said to bring rain, and the statues were used to protect the buildings, which were often made of wood, from fire (similar to how gargoyles were used in Europe to ward away evil spirits). It naturally follows that using a catfish instead of a shachihoko as a protective charm would replace the symbolism of rain protecting a building from fire with that of a ground protecting the wearer from electricity.

safe to say that if true, he only got some of them if the trailers are any indication or at least those that followed him. We already have one Tribe that's had people in it proceed to go turn-coat (the Yiga being Sheikah traitors) so the Zonai potentially having two factions once where some serve Ganon and some are against him would explain a few things, maybe with the Ganon loyalists being turned into the modern day, BOTW Lynels (as someone who has played and loved the DOOM series since the very first game, makes a twisted form of sense cause demons and how the Marauders are at this point the equivalent for the series of Lynels with them being corrupted members of a warrior race who were to quote a certain scientist who loves games, a people who's physiology made them Absolute Units. so Lynels being the Zelda equivalent makes sense) while the anti-Ganon Zonai went... where-ever it is they are in TOTK.

So, couple things on this stuff that I thought of. The King's Grave looks uncanily like the Time Stones dotted around Skyward Sword's desert levels, and I always thought it was an incomplete monument- the sheika tribe in this age likely had access to some form of time stone, giving Age of Calamity's storyline, and might have been trying to process one in hopes of resurrecting the King at a different time. Something might have gone wrong in one way or another, and the stone's magic was drained- be it from not understanding the magic fully, or be it that the stone's power was given to the Shrine of Resurrection to rescue Link. Either way, the King's body being on the mountain isn't that difficult to believe- there's almost no guardians in any of the snowy areas, presuming that they don't make it to that type of area quickly or efficiently, and the last thing you want is the enemy to have your king, symbol of your entire kingdom and existence, and presumed connection to your deities, alive or dead. The Sheika probably brought the King either in his dying moments or afterward to the Temple of Time as a momentary holding place, tried to hold a proper, ceremonial funeral and burial, and were quickly set upon, fleeing into the mountains to finish the deed. As for the Lynels, we see in a couple spots in Zelda history mentions of the fine line between Monsters and humans. Maybe lynels are like our friend Batreaux, in reverse, where they did so much evil they were transformed by that malicious intent. Or maybe they're like the Horned Statue, cursed to live out their days for no other purpose than to be slain by the Hero. But I *don't* think they're *all* half-man. In fact I don't think any of the ones that are in BotW are. They're hollow reflections of a Lynel race, because the thing of it is- in the cutscene on Death Mountain, where Zelda is treating Link's wounds, there's a pile of monster *corpses*, and a lynel is among them. From a gameplay perspective it makes sense for the monsters to poof out of existence, but from a narrative standpoint, what could cause the difference in 100 years? Ganon is likely making clones of "true" monsters in time to try and hinder (or keep up with) Link, out of his own dwindling energy, and calling that Malice back to him when the form has been dispelled. *Ganon* has likely found and slain most of his own real monsters to recycle their parts and create fused and hollow clones of Demise's old army. Remembering the special case of Batreaux, and the fact that Ghirihim orders the Bokoblins around and instructs them not to fear Link's blade, it seems like most of our "standard" monsters have gotten dumber and dumber over the years as Ganon gets more and more desperate. Bokoblins? Useless cannon fodder, don't waste too much energy. Moblins? Brutes, clumsy, can hit hard but not much else. Lizalfos? Quick and fragile, need to be a little smarter and a little more cowardly. Lynels? Have power, and speed without sacrificing either, so more effort can be put into them. And then you have your minibosses like Hinox which are just there for intimidation. And then you have Blights which are actual literal pieces of the Calamity and cannot be ignored. Just like the Sheika using Spirit Energy, Ganon himself uses Malice as a fuel for his armies.

I had no idea there was a graveyard near Kakariko, I never found it. Guess I'll have to go back and poke around! I like the theory that the Rubber set was crafted for the Zora, but I think the catfish imagery points in a slightly different direction. Catfish have a mythological association with lightning and earthquakes in Japanese mythology. This even comes up in a couple places in the Zeldaverse (eg. getting the Quake Medallion from the catfish in ALttP). However, the close ties between Japanese myth and the Sheikah, plus liberal mention of ancient technology, still supports the party about it being made by the Sheikah.

Seeing how Sidon refers Lynels as "he" and not "it" makes us wonder how their race survived without reproducing, it makes it clear that all Lynels are *male humans* who got cursed by Ganon and turned into a Lynel

Cause Blood-Moons... and associated indefinite lifespans... and the Great King of Evil dragging them back to life from death over and over again. I'm pretty sure that as long as Ganon is running around (which is likely always going to be the case sooner or later when he's either revived, reincarnated or managed a magical jail-break out of whatever seal he's put in lockdown under!) that they don't need to worry about reproducing when they can just keep coming back from death and not have to worry about old age killing them off.

I sill want to know where the Lynels get thier weapons. Besides the Wizrobes, they are the only monsters to have unique weapons. The rest simply use scavenged Hylian weapons (that is, excluding the ones that are just some sharp bones on a stick). Were they forged deep underground by Ganon himself? Or did the Lynels create them with their own skills?

I think they forged the stuff themselves. Moblins and Bokoblins are pretty smart, they hunt, cook food and can make basic yet complex weapons. A Lynel is seen to be even smarter, knowing when someone is or isn't a threat, they can also see through Kiltons mask.

here's quick take on zeltik's theory about lynels being transformed men. they are the zonai. the red maned lynel have similar red hair like the barbarian set which is confirmed to be zonai. they used to be ganon's followers and maybe some of them tried to betray ganon and ganon found out. He transformed the traitors into lynels killing all the other zonai. or it was just zonai making rituals or what not. also, i'm pretty sure the smaller rocks on the king's grave are for his royal guards. you know, the ones that are specifically requested to defend the king as we can see them fighting by the king's side in age of calamity

This was fun! I sort of miss old Zelda, when Ganon was Ganon, and active more of the time. I remember when Gdorf wasn't a thing yet, and we just had the infernal pig Sorcerer. Back then, I recall they said Moblins bore their own appearance as lesser iterations of their master; he gave whatever they used to be their piggish-mets-bulldog form. In a similar way, I could imagine that Ganon taking his best ogres, and melding them with their impressive steeds, to make Lynels, then further altering them to have better climbing/grip to scale Death Mountain, which was his before the introduction of the benevolent Gorons, and one of the places we saw the Lynels, back in the day. Completely unrelated, but since there are times when Ganon forms his army out of twisted versions of the good races, and not just Lizals, Bokos, and Moblins, if we'll get a 3D game with bad Zora, and an explanation? There are Zelda games where the fish folk are enemies, and even look more evil. Whether they have their own ruler, or not, they scour waterways, looking for Link. It's a bit of a salt vs fresh divide, but a game where all of the Zora aren't nice, kind waifus, but with both present, and learning why they aren't united, would be neat!

The thing about Lynels reminded me of something. Lynels also appear in a Link to the Past. The game where Ganon has transformed Hyleans into monsters. In fact every enemy you fight in the dark world presumably was a normal Hylean at some point. The only place Lynels appear in (I think) are at the top of where death mountain is in the dark world. Where they stop you from getting near Ganon's tower by breathing very damaging fireballs at you.

I can barely find any Lynel lore out there, so this is refreshing! What fascinates me is even though Lynels are intelligent, there doesn't seem to be any sign of where they live. No camps. No offspring. No forges. They just exist. If there was a single Lynel village hidden somewhere, I'd love it so much, but this theory does offer an explanation- they are artificial. O_o

Some thoughts: 1) Its possible that King Roahm's body was brought the Great Plateau when Link's body was brought to the shrine of resurrection. It could have been seen as a safer place - not to mention a sacred, ancient place of Hyrule - and, like you mentioned, could help guide Link when he awoke. 2) I think its possible that a Rito individual had made the glider for a human/non-flyer (perhaps even for Link himself) without gliders being a common Rito tool. A Rito just wanted to help their friend to fly, so they found a way to do that. Hence the Rito symbols. 3) The Rubber Set reminds me a bit of the the helms Ritos wear in Twilight Princess.
