@@mondoshredder5783 Was it your injuries? I just finished watching The Crash Reel (great documentary on Keven Pearce and a testament to helmets.) and when he got out of the hospital after 3 months of fighting for his life and rehab his GF left him. Not sure why but Im assuming it's because he wanted to get back on the stick and land that god forsaken double cork. Glad to see he's come to terms with his life and that fact that he will never be able to compete again. Still sad though. =/
@@princetemujjin its definitely a good idea! especially if your local hill is icy :( i got a lot of headaches learning to snowboard at my treacherous ski hill lol
This is my go-to video at the beginning of every season: it's always good to restart from basics, since I don't have the chance to train snowboard during the rest of the year!
Thanks Duncan. I'm 54 and going Boarding with my daughter for the first time. I last boarded over 20 yrs ago. I'm so excited. #slowly #gently #keepitsimple
Agreed. Much easier if you move your bindings into the middle of the board (I have a burton process flying V, so the EST/infinite channel bindings make it easy to move the bindings forward so they are absolutely centered on my board)... also adjust the angles so your bindings are completely symmetrical. That way you can ride half the day switch and half regular so your muscles get a break on each side, usually I ride all day and get 35K vertical or so.
I respectfully disagree. There is no reason why you can't learn these basics before learning to carve switch (learning switch, however, is key to upping your game). These four basic moves will really get your balance cranked up. Like the coach says ... start off on less slope with less speed. And make sure you have situational awareness (be aware of the space and those around you) turned up as you always should.
Feeling hyped. Took a couple of days off work in two weeks and rented a big ass house next to a resort with a couple of bros. Definitely gonna try this out on the easier slopes. Can't wait.
It took me 5 years just too be able to turn on the toeside after I learned that I went from beginner to intermediate in just 2 days, watching tutorials on the basic stuff really helped because I was basically self taught, and I wasn't the best teacher lol
I got a concussion snowboarding last weekend and now I am in the hospital, that day was completely erased from my memory. It’s a shame that I don’t even remember whether I learned how to do all the ollies and nollies properly. I will have to learn to do them again
the way that Blake can make the camera so smooth and ride effortlessly while Duncan stunts is beautiful. That is a next level cameraman. Duncan is steezy AF and delivers the info. Good style. thanks for the value guys! This video has helped a bunch of my family and little kids learn tricks. super job on this. Thanks!
I don’t even snowboard, I ski, but I appreciate this video so much. Very, very professionally and ergonomically edited/written. All around excellent production, friends. Happy 2021
stiffer board has more pop. softer board has more press. preference purely depends on your style of riding. for example i like a medium flex board so i can do presses and i dont lose pop. binding stance angles are also preference. if you stand with your feet at shoulder distance apart, face forward and jump, how you land is your "power stance". mirror your binding angles to your power stance.
I wish I was living next to the awesome slope. the highest point in my country is 300m above sea level. nevertheless in 2 weeks I'm going in Norway for whole 2 weeks of shredding the slopes. Tho I need tons of practice, snowboarding is the best.
I was pretty radical for many years. I'm 44 now, have a neck injury, so basically I just go down the hill nowadays, and I think I love riding even more.
Lmfao last time I did spins at high speed I caught an edge and slammed my face so hard I was bleeding around my goggles and I had a bruise underneath my eye on top of my cheek. Hit really bad and uneven patch of melting snow and I screwed up hard. Still rode the rest of the day and the following day too. It’s nice to be young.
Like 2 more months. Actually snow is predicted to fall early and HEAVily this winter season in like October or November because lake Michigan is still warm! #toofuckingpumpedforthisshit!!!
This was so helpful thank you. I spent my snow trip watching and practicing this and it really helped. Really fun combination of moves. Could you tell me what board you are riding?
Nose/Tail presses are probably the most underrated snowboard move. Even I learned 180's and 360's before presses but I think getting presses down is really important for jumping because landing on the nose or tail is even easier when you know presses. Its all a comfort thing lol.
Hey, great video. thank you 🙏🏻💕. I have a question about the presses. I tried some tail presses for buttering, but my board only starts lifting up a bit, when I am basically already so far bent to the side that I can grab the snow and it feels super uncomfortable. I have the GNU gloss from 2019 in 148 and I am 165 tall and definitely weigh enough. Not sure whether it's too stiff of a board or whether I am just not getting something 🫤
Yeah try shifting your feet upwards (point toes to sky) and downwards (toes to ground) to make sure that edge locks into the snow. On groomed runs this will be much easier obviously. Also, if your toe strap will tighten over the tips of your toes instead of ontop of your boots you'll get way better control for this.
@@amayagrace4798 I just realized this was a year ago hahaha. Hope progress is going well! I found upgrading gear made riding easier. In the end everything comes with experience on the hill.
Now that Explanation i Actually understood in somehow ! I do understand that its Time Too Leave Sweden ! The slopes are closer to 90 degres than Rideable=Joy Factor . Thanks for Showing something Real that doesent cost Ones Life :-)
What kind of Board is recommended for learning this? I ride a YES Basic 158 cm (I'm 174 cm and 90 kg). Do I need to look for a shorter freestyle board? Thanks.
Rotating the hips, back leg bent inward and 70% of weight on the back foot (or even more), while keeping your head and your chin over your front foot, changed entirely my bs turns many years ago, for the better, much better.
As a long time snowboard instructor, are all of you seeing how relaxed he looks, and how much his knees are moving. I encourage you to have a friend video you so you can compare your form to Duncan's. Really focus on relaxing and not holding a pose.
Great Vids. I've been boarding since, well, my first board had a swallowtail and a string on the front. HAHA! Anyway, I've never gotten any good at riding switch. How important is it? and how can I get that skill ??
I think you mean "regain your balance" not "regain your consciousness" unless spinning actually makes you lose full consciousness and pass out? In which case Id recommend you NOT spin and go see a doctor! Lol, just kidding bro this is a great vid! You explain and breakdown all these moves in a way thats really easy to understand, which is something I've never been able to do when trying to teach others how to do this stuff!
A 'shifty' in Australia mean to rip someone off. These tips are for advanced riders, what your doing in the vids is for people who board about 20+ days a year, not 5 days like a normal dude. Playing in the snow is expensive.
Dude, drop the girl, keep your board. I had boarding before a 12 year marriage. We went to 25 resorts together. I was pretty sad to take my snowboard to Tahoe without her. Hadn't been in six years I was so sad and mopey. I almost gave her my favorite snowboard as a parting gift. It would have burned up in Paradise California...and for what? This level is exactly where I am after a six year break. Its the perfect video. It shows just how good you are and playing around with them is better than any girl. Ride on.
