This is my preferred practice method for any art form. It allows you to grow in multiple facets, all inside one streamlined practice session.
I hope you all enjoy it

Hope this helps someone :) My notes from this lesson: 4 stage practice method- Stage 1-NON CREATIVE (10 mins) Mike Johnson Warm up your body Things I can do Something you can do, but do it better than you have ever done it before Examples: Rudiments Singles (Two on snare four on snare) Fills Grooves Bass drum/hand tech (RLKK) comfortable RLRR-RLRR, etc Put bass drum with right hand Working on clarity Precision Playing Zones Don’t speed up* Stop, deep breath, new tempo.* What do you physically want to be better at on the drum set? “It’s something you can already do, but you’d like to do better.”

Mike, I've got to get back to these vids again. You not only have some of the best technique, but everything I've learned from ya, has not only stuck with me, but improves an aspect of my playing.

I totally agree, technique is a mean to an end. It all comes down to support the band, play with your ears instead of your hands and make music feel good. Thanks so much for the inspiration Mike!

Great thoughts, looking forward to the next vids in the series. Wondering why 10 minutes is the magic number ("stage 1 is always 10 minutes") as opposed to a percentage of the total practice time etc. Is 10 minutes the sweet spot for developing muscle memory on a single exercise or something?

Hey Mike, a couple of questions for you. I had to cancel my in person lessons due to work schedule. I am looking for good lessons online. I will admit that I feel there a lot of good channel for this so it is hard to choose. Does your online school have any schedule demands? Also, if I sign up for the year package does that allow me to access all the content on the site. For instance, Drumeo has other other content that you have to pay for separately. Let me know. Thank you.

If you send me an email today with your number I’ll happily give you a call and walk you through the features of the site and then you can make your own decision on which site/platform works best for you. mike@mikeslessons.com

Hey , Steve Lockie. I am not Mike Johnson. But I’d like to offer you some wisdom. If it’s a traditional wedding with lots of people, food , family and your bride all dolled-up in a white dress, I highly recommend you Not drum at all . It’s “her” big day. Not yours. Hire a DJ or another band.
