New grad students, what are you most excited/nervous about starting grad school? Current grad students, how did you prepare to start grad school?

I am nervous about lots of reading and writing papers long 10-20 pages
@theacademicsociety

@@AdvancedCommonSense This is a very valid concern. What I've heard from grad students in reading and writing intensive programs is that you'll learn to skim and retain knowledge and your writing will improve and get faster as you go. You don't have to be efficient immediately.

1. Express gratitude 2. Read student information (dates, orientation, ...) 3. Create an action plan (future plan, financial plan, ...) 4. List all the suggestions

All of this! I’m pursuing my MEd starting this fall, and I gave small gifts to my rev letter writers and sent thank yous to everyone else. I also did a cute way to reveal my decision to them.

I don't normally comment, but I am glad I found your channel. I recently applied for Master in Public Admin. I'm an older returning student and trying to wrap my mind around the upcoming changes.

Hey, thanks for these videos! You always have such cute outfits and hairdos in your videos. Here's a list of some of my essential prep/planning tips: 1.) Before the semester starts, I put all important dates from the school's academic calendar and all due dates from the syllabus into my google calendar. I only set notifications for important ones so I don't get alarm fatigue and start ignoring it. 2.) Before the semester starts, I buy all books on amazon way before class starts so I don't get a late start. It seems almost impossible to catch up after starting late! If the prof says we won't be needing the book, then I just return it as soon as I realize it. I print all syllabi and get all school supplies setup, including printing any slides that may be posted early and putting that into a binder. I buy/install all software mentioned in the syllabi, because some installs can get tedious and issues here can really cause delays (eg. Oracle, Tensorflow, Anaconda, RStudio, other programming environments, all the necessary packages, etc...) 3.) During the 2 week breaks between quarters, I clean/chop/cube a ton of chicken and freeze it, so I can just grab some from the freezer and cook something ASAP style instead of killing my diet on fast food. I stock up on groceries to make this super easy, especially frozen veggies, rice, noodles, etc. 4.) Put off everything possible until breaks, like haircuts, deep cleaning, changing air conditioner filters, picking up prescriptions, well-woman exams, mammograms, and etc... Getting 90-day prescriptions works perfectly for those of us on a quarter system instead of semesters. I just keep adding undone things to a running to-do list during the quarter. I just finished finals, and my list now has 55 no-fluff type things on there.

Can you make a video on your workload and a little more detail about how busy you are and your schedule. Maybe a day in my life vlog would be cool! Love your videos

Thank you for your videos, your advice is so helpful! I have a question. Congrats students apply for FASFA and get awarded on their own or do they still have to have their parents income factored in?
@theacademicsociety
@theacademicsociety 3 года назад
I'm not a FAFSA pro, but I think that it depends on if your parents still claim you on their taxes. This may be a better question for Dr. Emily Roberts from Personal Finance for PhDs. She's on twitter at twitter.com/pfforphds

Good morning sir. My name is Edward, I am one of your your RU-vid subscribers. I watched one of your videos and at the description below I got your email address. Please I wish to inquire about recommendations. I find it difficult getting across to my lecturers and professors, as required. Because I been away from school for some time now. Please can I send the recommendation link to my close friends who can attend to it quickly, Or please i need your advice on how to go about it. Kind regards. Worlu Edward Chimzindu.
