This is not a tutorial, it is a work of art, they took care of information, focused, costumes, speech and the most beautiful, Sonya, amazing in the end I fell in love, thanks for this beautiful gift, one of the best videos of this platform
@@The_Kavalier We haven't forgotten your message and appreciate the offer very much. Times are so hectic right now...but we would enjoy meeting you on day, hopefully sooner than later. Cheers! Hugo and Sonya
It's been awhile since I seen a video of yours and I forgot how Attractive Ms. Sonya was. This was a very informative video from a very well spoken knowledgeable source. thank you very much.
Great content. Strange transformation from wanting perfection when younger to sprezzatura like unbuckled monkstraps, and now grey haired adopting wabi sabi.. wearing repaired much loved shoes...
If my teachers in school explained things this well and in such an interesting way, I'd have a much easier time learning. Great video. Love your channel
Sonya, thank you for the wonderful content! Heath and I are in the shoe business ourselves, and we always enjoy hearing from others who also have a passion for well-made shoes. You and Hugo are an inspiration. Keep up the great work!
Hi Trenton and Heath, Glad you joined us here and please feel free to add any pointers we may have missed. Thanks for watching and for the encouragement! ~Sonya
You seriously need to give the ultimate nod to her tailor. She's a beautiful woman but hot damn are her proportions would be sooooo difficult to match well and make a garment that fits her so amazingly well! Those French tailors yo!!
Who would have thought that a 30+ minute video on how to ID quality shows would have been soooo informative and GOOD! Excellent delivery and breakdown Sonya!
Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge. I love all your videos as there is no ego, no snobbery, and clear mastery. You make these often daunting subjects easy for a novice.
I would add that a pair of shoe trees is always something you should buy automatically when you buy a pair of leather shoes, but perhaps that’s for another topic.
What i love is that you guys care enough to respond to new comments on videos that you posted months and months and months ago. Most people only repond to the first few comments on a video then never again. To me, it shows, you do care. Great video! Thanks
Dear friend, thank you for your kind words. Actually we do our best on answering comments, even if it's becoming more and more complicated these last months because of an extremely heavy schedule (we may be at least 500 comments late now). But you know why we dedicate real time to this ? Because it's the only way to build a true, strong and loyal community. There's no other way.Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
Hi OMAM, We use a professional crew and pay out of pocket to produce (except we just opened a Patreon account five days ago)--so direct feedback only makes sense to know 'how we're doing' and staying humble and close to our audience is important too. Thanks for bringing up the topic. Cheers! ~Sonya
Thank you, The suit is from Sartoria Dalcuore in Naples, the shirt is bespoke (Carlo Riva fabric) from Maison Sinischalchi in Milan and the tie is from our friend Nicola at Spacca Neapolis ties in Naples. Thanks for giving me the chance to respond. Cheers! ~Sonya
I was looking through my various RU-vid channels and I am new to this one. I stopped scrolling when I saw this extremely well-dressed person and listened. I stopped dead in my tracks to get an excellent education on my new favorite topic! Shoes!
Sonya, in all of my years of purchasing leather, suede, and exotics, I have never heard a more descriptive way of what to look for in a good pair of footwear. I must say that, I haven't failed you. Keep up the excellent work.
Hello from North Carolina. There is something “special” about this lady. I really like her. She has a presence and calmness about her. Her and her husband are fantastic. They both have helped me find my way with suits, shoes, and attire.
Thank you for noticing the nuance of finding peace that surpasses understanding. I really appreciate your boldness of communication and your supportive tone, and that you find the information here relevant. Cheers! ~Sonya
I've been watching 100s of videos on shoemaking and shoe quality but none of those went as far as yours did. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge.
30 minutes is not even enough. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. It is interesting, jaw dropping and at the same time humbling. Simply because a woman is more knowledgeable than most men. Where in fact, the topic of mens shoes is something broad and not most men know about. I once had a Nike Kobe Bryant shoe collection, but 2 years ago I started to gravitate on mens shoes. And this channel has helped me learn valuable lessons about shoes, and dressing well in general. What I would like to see on the next video is for Hugo to review 2 to 3 of his dress shoes. Explaining why he bought them, what's good about them, the quality, made and other important things about the shoe.
SARTORIAL TALKS will the title be called ”Why I keep returning to Cifonelli”?😉 Something on the wishlist is videography of natural movements in the clothing to see the drape action and organicness (or not) of the shoulder. This doesn't seem available anywhere online and would be fantastic seeing such footage as part of the Italian/Parisian Gentleman series. The internet/books have pictures and some description but no real video. Likewise, if Mr. Simon Crompton was convinced to do video footage of his collection ” modeling” to showcase the vast quantities of bespoke makers. So far the best seems to be interviews with someone just sitting or standing. Grateful to know of any source of such a thing.
Back in the day, when such things existed, we used to say that So-and-so could read the phone directory and it would be compelling viewing. Sonya has such a voice and manner. Totally captivating.
Listening to these 2 (Sonya & Hugo) speak on the benefit of putting on a good pair of shoes got me feeling like celebrity tryin to purchase the lates Lamborghini 😎😌
Sonya...I'm very much interested in finding out sartorial information...for WOMEN! I see that you are indulging in fine tailoring...but what about those of us females who are also interested in the same. Thanks in advance!
Have you heard and if you did what us your opinion of the ShoePassion brand? They're presented as the entry level version of Heinrich Dinkelacker to quality shoes, if I am not mistaken. Lovely video Sonya, can't wait to see more of them!
Hi CS and thanks you. Of course we know the ShoePassion brand and have included the maker in past recommendations. Here is an excerpt from our 2015 Parisian Gentleman article: "Berlin-based Shoepassion.com has made a name for itself, thanks to a great range of quality shoes sold at affordable prices. Based on a direct-to-consumer model, Shoepassion.com owns four physical stores (all in Germany) as well as a nice e-Shop that ships anywhere in the world. The brand’s shoes are made in Spain and are of a very decent make, considering the price and the Goodyear welt construction. Shoepassion’s biggest strength is the sheer depth of its catalogue with more than 200 models, more than enough to cover anyone’s needs and taste. Shipping rates are fixed and reasonable - for instance, shipping to France is $5.60, no matter the size of the shipment. Further, the packaging is qualitative and shoe bags are offered, which is always a plus. Also quite the rare occurrence for an online store, you’ll find on Shoepassion.com a collection of exotic skin shoes (cordovan, python, lizard, ostrich) at a good value for money." Cheers! ~Sonya
I have never seen videos that are half an hour and still interesting even though it is just one person talking in the same position. To be honest i wish this was even longer. You guys are amazing,
I am 23 years old but when I was watching this video suddenly I though that this woman is incredible amazing and so beautiful her voice her ayes, her skin I love her
Thank you for the information. I was paying extra attention on the when you spoke about broguing. I'd consider profession here, at least I must. Police, Doctors, Chemists, etc, it seems might not want Broguing on their shoes, as biological or chemical materials like to get stuck in there. I'm doing research on how to have a stylish, yet functional attire. So I need suits with belt loops, as I carry a firearm at work. (heavy duty belt loops at that. I've gone through more than a few pairs of dress slacks from holster wear and broken belt loops from the weight of a handgun.) While trying to avoid stepping in spilled chemicals and biological matter is the best course of action, things happen. In that case smooth shoes are easier to decontaminate of blood or whatever. While I've never had a bespoke suit, I have had a number of tailored ones. They all fit terribly because at my request they are cut to hang so to better cover a handgun. While I can't speak from experience, there are rumors that there are a few very good bespoke tailors that can cut a perfect fitting suit while still concealing a handgun. (If I only knew who they are, and could afford their services...) I have also heard of a bespoke tailor in Colombia (or somewhere in South or Central America that uses ballistic Kevlar as the canvassing inside his bespoke suits. They are apparently wonderful suits, and only Sartorial experts could tell they are different than a more standard Bespoke suit. Perhaps you could do a video on "special" bespoke suits such as I've spoken about. Professional Suits, that are fashionable, yet also serve a perfect functional role for people who need them. (Again, Doctors, Police Officers, Politicians, Intelligence Officials, Diplomats, ect.) Thank you for all the information on this channel, I've learned a great deal.
Hi I was just like to say I can only watch shoes in the area $500-$1000 do you think I can get a decent pair shoes so that kind of money I mean even boots these days work boots cost you good pair $500 and I love shoes just wish I could afford more expensive ones
Beautiful woman inside and out. Extremely knowledgeable thank you for sharing your knowledge. I wear cowboy boots maybe you could do a segment on cowboy boots.
Such an informative and interesting dissertation on dress shoes and what to look for when purchasing a pair of quality shoes. I am amazed at how much new information you provide in this video. Having recently retired, I see no reason to disregard the basics of fashion which includes wearing appropriate and nice looking footwear. Thus, I listened intently, as I find the information you provide quite helpful, as well as interesting. I chuckled as I remembered how painful it is to have a small pebble in one of my shoes. Your use of various analogies throughout the video did much to convey the important messages you were sharing with your audience. Job well done! Sonya, this is the first of your videos which I viewed and I am so glad I took the time to do so, as I learned a lot of useful information. I look forward to viewing more of your publications. Excellent work!
I do not undervalue this type of specific feedback, which takes consideration to write out, and want you to know I appreciate the time you took to leave your impression. Thank you and happy footwear days ahead! Cheers! ~Sonya
Sartorial Talks, Sonya hi, how much of this applies to women's shoes? And in general I noticed that the whole channel is geared more towards men's clothing. Is there a particular reason behind it?
Wow! You are very pretty and the brown colour is very good for you. I love your channel! Your channel and Gentleman's Gazette and a Hungarian dressing consultant Adam Bihari is my favourit on RU-vid. I learned from you how I look like a Gentleman. I've wanted a long time ago my first bespoke suit and I saved a money and I have my first bespoke suit made this week and I so interested.
Its very nice to know all these things but how can you tell the quality of the leather when you have the shoe in front of you? It would have been much better if you used examples in shoes as you describe the leather grades.
As a 27y/o I always go to a nice classic timeless shoe. Be it for the office, for free time, going out or even vacancy. These things will always survive these Nike Air + Khaki cargo pants + hoodie trends. Nice episode, Sonya. Thanks a lot 🙏
It is quite one thing to make a video covering what one needs to take into consideration when purchasing foot ware, but it another thing when the video covers all the essentials when making an informed decision. Well done.
my lace closure is a Is slightly wide . however . if i go up a half size shoe feels to long . or go with a wide it feels to roomy . . so lace closure is a slight issue i will stay with my proper size . i have high aches .
Learned so much watching these videos! I always imagined the pointed toe shoes more fitting with a tuxedo. Since a tuxedo has plenty of pointy edges too.
With all the mass of junk clothing out there I hope more and more young people will learn the difference between quality not quantity! All they see and hear is wealthy people showing their closets, so for penny’s they fill their closets with cheap crap. Buy quality people and take care of it, it will not let you down for many years
Excellent video !!!, with so much information. But the result of bespoke shoes is UNIQUE!!. Now, it can become highly addictive, as Mr Jacomet said. Therefore, one has to go easy on it. I have a pair of Jan Kielman's whole cut in cognac brown and i am thinking already on the next. Maybe i need to listen to my own advice!!.
Fantastic that you have experienced Jan Kielmann's whole cuts (from Warsaw). Congratulations. These objects called bespoke shoes are a work of art and are worn on a delicate part of the body, so actually, the addiction can be understood. When you understand what you buy, it can feel as if you are able to (somehow) transcend the limits of time. ~Cheers! ~Sonya
Greeting Sonya. Another excellent video from you. But from my experiences most dress shoes aren't that comfy. I had problem with pressure point and is slippery too. Their insoles are way too thin. I love whole cut type and will have it. Don't like broque though. I think you forget to mention about the rank of formalities of those shoes.
I relate, especially on some of the cobblestone streets in Europe--impossible! Try Carmina or Lottusse for a great value. I also have Weston & other Parisian makers, but the above two makers are more than sufficient and can look quite feminine. Cheers! ~Sonya
It felt like watched a movie without interval. Thank you Sonya for the detailed information about shoes. My next great purchase is going to be Paul Parkman Wingtip Oxfords shoe. Many thanks
I came here looking for 4 quick tips, I had my whole view on shoes changed. I'm saving up to order a bespoke shoes in the summer. I'm thinking a whole cut! Thank you for your very informative videos. Hope to see this channel grow day by day.
