Thank you Kim (if I may call you Kim for short 😊) Thanks for noticing the lack of sponsorships. I’ve supported 2, but I turn down most because I don’t like doing commercials. But holistic psychiatry and psychology is becoming more popular to talk and hear about.

T2D for 22 year as well as Bipolar 2. Started keto 6 weeks ago went from 83 units of insulin a day to 15 units. Dropped 20 pounds of that “water weight” My labs were so great that my doctor said I’ll be off my diabetes medication and blood pressure meds by this December. This has been a lot of work. I was having serious withdrawal but now with all the fasting I don’t crave the carbs and I don’t eat between meals. I have always been the most undisciplined person I know. No looking back! I take 3 psych meds I’m hoping one day I will be off those soon.

LSD and mushrooms completely changed my whole outlook on life. I became a better version of myself This experience gave me a lot of confidence about my self and my body. A bunch of bad thought / behavior patterns were broken. One of these was pretty bad OCD that made me wash my hands a lot. It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. The main reason for the trip was my severe depression and it definitely helped me (although it's not gone). Before all I could do was lay in bed. Now I am trying to rebuild my life one step at a time which wasn't possible before."

I did go to the ER eventually but it helped alot that moment .. the touch of another person or an animal is really powerful ! Sorry for my english 😅

Dr. Marks, I thought I knew about all 4 of the tools that you mention in your video, but with this video (as with all of your others), you always provide extra information that is new to me, for example, most videos about intermittent fasting talk about the weight loss benefits, not that it aids in getting rid of toxins, or the growth and pruning of damaged nerves. THANK YOU for taking your EXTENSIVE knowledge, and bringing it down to the 101 level, and providing information that WE CAN ACTUALLY USE TO BECOME HEALTHIER. Whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat. Beans and legumes. Meats. Even white rice would be better. Rice, beans, and flour are all inexpensive. Eating healthier can be expensive and more time consuming. Take small steps at a time. Cereal for breakfast? Maybe oat meal with fruit and cream would be better. Or scrambled eggs on toast. Slowly reduce sugar added to your coffee. Etc. Small steps stick the longest, I think. I used to drink coffee with lots of sugary creamer. I slowly reduced the added creamer and now I drink my coffee black. Been drinking it black for 10 yrs now and no longer like creamer, cream, or sugar in my coffee. Good luck!!

Many, many women experience not just food cravings, but intense pain, mood swings (oh the poor men have to deal with us), and many other symptoms. Since my husband moved to memory care my diet changed in a bad way. This video heled me understand and make sense why I am acting so different. There are words that trigger me and make be upset. The word "mindful" is one. I see what you mean about being mindful. This word was used at me in a not so nice way and now it is a trigger. How do we get past trigger words? The diet one is a big issue for me to follow in this video because of a history of disordered eating and the language used to talk about food. Words like "cleaning up" and "eliminating" are pretty triggering for me, because high restriction and moralizing food are incredibly damaging for me. "Toxins" are also a grey area, because harmful fads like "detox tea" are laxatives and ultimately harmful. A healthier way to consider a diet centred on whole foods is to think of what you can add or swap out: adding more vegetables, swapping for whole grains, adding wholesome snacks, swapping a candy bar for something to hit that sweet tooth (or in my case, some nuts!). I'd really appreciate some more awareness and mindfulness on the language used to talk about food in advice videos like this.

I'm really sorry you had a bad experience with one or more psychologists. But please know there are good ones out there and that even if some aren't a good fit for you or are downright unprofessional, there are way more amazing psychologists and licenced therapists to find. You just gotta take the chance and keep looking ❤

Hello Dr Marks. Your videos are very helpful. I have a friend whom was recently diagnosed with Bipolar and I do not believe the type has been specified yet. He is experiencing confusion, no appetite and other symptoms since beginning to take mood stabilizers over the last month . States he also feels over medicated. Do you know of any helpful resources to assist with locating knowledgeable African American Psychiatrists such as yourself in Texas? Specifically San Antonio, TX. Thanks

I'm sending this to my Noom coach because it's very much the same philosophy that they teach with their weight loss program or journey depending on your attitude.

From experience I can tell you that fasting (or not eating) isn't good for you if you have anxiety. A number of people with generalized anxiety disorder have a stomach that produces too much acid (talk about the number of people with anxiety that have IBS, gastric reflux or other digestive tract problems) and not eating will let your gastric acids deteriorate your intestinal mucosa. If you eat something, the acid will deteriorate the food inside your stomach and will not be as harsh on your mucosa.

With the diet aspect, What's the best way to go about "cleaning up your diet", when recovering from an eating disorder. I begin to get more anxiety once I start eliminating certain foods or calculating aspects of my diet.

Dr. Marks, would you mind making a video about IOPs? I'm a little confused about the treatment plans for anxiety and depression in this form. Like how bad does your anxiety/depression need to be to considered for IOP?
