With the Star Wars Vintage Collection HasLab taking way longer than previous projects to fund, I take a look at some ways Hasbro can further maximize these offerings for collectors of Star Wars, Marvel Legends, Transformers, Ghostbusters and G.I. Joe Classified.

Payment plan options would not only make it easier to get the Haslabs I'm extremely interested in, but it might also tempt me to get ones I'm partially interested in.
@LylesFigureFiles

I'd think so too. And there's always people who have non-buyer's remorse and want the HasLab after it's sold out. They could charge a little extra for the cancellations that come back up on Pulse.

Oh man, a payment plan would be great! I think that would make it a lot easier for a lot of people and they'd end up selling twice as many Haslabs!
@Durteedurtydurt
@Durteedurtydurt Месяц назад
Payment plans wouldn’t work. Because if someone can’t make all the payments they would have to process refunds and take away from the backer count. Unless they made you completely all payments before the deadline but even then with how long/short the window to fund are you might as well pay it in one lump sum. The reason they require full payment at time of funding is to fund the project and take profit at the same time.
@Vintage-Bob
@Vintage-Bob Месяц назад
@@Durteedurtydurt Hasbro is pathetic. They don't need a kickstarter scheme for what they're offering. Haslabs is Hasbro being chintzy.
@Vintage-Bob

Jeffrey, I think your idea of having a yearly schedule is absolutely spot on! And I think pretty much everyone would agree with the idea of having a payment plan. Especially considering there are fans who collect ML, Star Wars, and GI Joe. That gets costly and if there's 3 Haslabs, it'd be great to know when to expect to have to dish out that money. But I think the single most important point is doing a poll or survey. For the life of me I cannot understand how nobody at a billion dollar company doesn't have the smarts to do market research. They foolishly locked a major and vital character (Mephisto) behind the Engine of Failure, despite the fact that a 3rd grader would have known better. Then they simply assumed that fans don't want regular figures with Haslabs and so Giantman floundered until the last moment, when Hasbro had to cook the numbers to get it over the finish line (and yes, I still truly believe that happened, as do others who were tracking the numbers). A poll would make sense, so why isn't Hasbro doing it? I think it's obvious that fans don't want VITAL characters locked behind Haslab paywalls as tiers. But do they care whether non-vital or generic characters are included as tiers? I'd bet my life that if Giantman had come with a generic Hank Pym in a labcoat and an original Ultron prototype (his "garbage can look") as tiers, no one would have complained and it would have helped it fund (without cooking the numbers). They should also ask - do fans prefer giant characters like Eternity, the Watcher, Black Goliath, Mangog, Celestials, and so on? And if so, do they prefer accessories as tiers or non-vital characters as tiers? Or, should they include vital characters as tiers as long as they're also going to release those vital figures as individual characters later? That won't hurt the Haslab because fans are buying the Haslab mainly for the main product, and Hasbro has admitted that the price of the tiers is baked into the price of the main offering. If they don't go that route, they should at least announce that if a figure is a tier and the Haslab doesn't fund, that figure can still be released. The only thing worse than permanently locking out a vital figure behind a Haslab paywall is locking it out behind a FAILED Haslab paywall. Or do fans prefer vehicles or playsets instead of giant characters? They're making Haslab vehicles for Star Wars and GI Joe and now a playset Haslab for Star Wars. Why not one for ML? Fans have been clamoring for an Avengers Quinjet. Maybe make the tiers a Jarvis figure and a prototype Ultron. Viola! It funds on day one. But until they poll the fans, they're just guessing. And that's either arrogance or laziness or both. I'm anxious to see what this year's ML Haslab is going to be. I'm hoping its something good.
@LylesFigureFiles
@LylesFigureFiles Месяц назад
Well, we're seeing with Damian Hellstrom that they're willing to put HasLab figures in a failed one back out to retail. That's a positive. I thought it wasn't the best strategy to not include figures with Giant Man. They could go a lot of ways with polls. The last one they did seemed to reflect that more collectors didn't want as large a concentration on BAF waves and instead wanted more solo cards and deluxe figures. But then there's now complaints about the deluxe figure pricing so they can't really win.
@Vintage-Bob
@Vintage-Bob Месяц назад
@@LylesFigureFiles Yeah, I was happy to see they released Hellstrom (even though it's not a character I'm interested in). That was a good sign! Personally, I HATE BAF's even worse than I hate 2-packs. In almost every case, it forces me to buy at least 4-5 figures I have no interest in, in order to get the BAF. Only Dormammu and Red Skull. Yeah, I hope they do away with BAFs entirely. BAFs are just a greedy money grab to push weak figures sales. I can't wait for October for Odin! Now I have to figure out what to use to create an Asgard playset! Any ideas?

Its gonna be tight to get to the base goal by look of how things are going. I don't know much about how these operate...is there normally a late surge to push them over the line? I am not a black series collector right now (debating with myself whether to get some "core" characters, they look cool) but this set as a while seems like a huge investment and would only appeal to a small fraction of the fan base...based on size alone.

Cantina could be $100 less on each option without the Guido, 4Thumbs and wolfman. Most people would have gone into the deluxe or backed 2+ regular and maybe deluxe. May Force and even Marvel Legends took over all of Joe June, they pushed into the Joe Haslab so many would rather wait to back 2 or more Rattlers, I'm pretty sure they will cook the numbers to hit Guido. imo Cantina is not a dreamlab, it's just more limited fomo retail offerings with fomo cardbacks. If people miss out on $100 to $150 profit on some baked in extra figures (that will be released anyway) there will be hundreds of cancelations.

I like some of your ideas. Others I don’t agree with. Such as the idea to have a Haslab rushed. I rather they take their time and get me a $300-500 items right so there aren’t issues later. I’m left unhappy and complaining. I do agree with you on the payment options. If they did a monthly based on how many you back with the no refundable down payment. That’s fair. I wonder how many items need to be a Haslab and is it necessary for it to come out every year? I don’t believe so. I’m not a SW toy collector. So maybe that fan base wants one every year. I collect the Joe line and to me I don’t think we need a new Haslab every year. At this rate the vehicles will only get larger. No one is going to be able to display a full on fighter jet. I know people want the whale but the reality is that’s just so large. It doesn’t seem doable nor reasonable to make for a fair price. I would like them to consider their fan base wallets when making these waves. It is just too much coming out at once. Especially when there are troop builders. Exclusives etc etc. I’d like it as a fan if they dialed it back and made four figures a wave four times a year, including exclusives in that number. I don’t know why the race to get it all out at once. I don’t know if it would be a good idea to let fans vote on what they put out as not everyone would be onboard on the same item. It could fund in the end but some people would have sour grapes. As I am sure you know how this toy collecting community works. Interesting topic. Glad you brought it up.

@LylesFigureFiles Месяц назад
Hey, I'd be worried if everyone agreed with everything I said ;-) Thanks for your responses. The HasLabs are a great way to get premium items out and with no real way to know how long the market can support it, cranking them out every year is the best way. They wouldn't want collectors annoyed if they decide to end it before something a lot of folks would have bought comes out.

15:21 A private company bringing transparency to the public?!?!?? 😳 I think from a psychological perspective, if people have that future schedule, they'd have more time to talk themselves out of spending the money. The pseudo-surprise of announcing the actual haslab and providing a window to get onboard triggers some FOMO sensors in people, likely producing a higher number of backers than a future planning announcement. A solution, for the collectors, is rather simple, albeit an approach requiring discipline. Plan for $700 for haslabs the upcoming year and budget, plan, save accordingly. That should provide a buffer for two, and if nothing announced tickles your fancy, trick of some of the savings on BF/CM and other EOY holiday sales... and/or roll some of the _"haslab reserved funds"_ into the planning for the following year.
@LylesFigureFiles

@LylesFigureFiles hey, that's why I said it's discipline. There's a budgeted set aside for haslab *_only_* (unless emergency for family needs), and there's budgeted amount for other _'collectible'_ purchases. One could even go old school with it and get a literal bucket to physically put $13 cash into it each week. After 52 weeks, you've got your $700. Could even put a taped message on it, *_DO NOT OPEN UNTIL HASLAB_* or *_IN CASE OF HASLAB, BREAK JAR_* 😉
