One thing I want to mention is that the definition of influencer I use is: someone who has a lot of influence. I understand that a lot of people have their own definitions of what they think an influencer is but I'm just using the meaning that is most common. Anyone who has a following on social media is an influencer. Also, of course that makes me an influencer, but when I make these videos and talk about influencers as "they" and viewers as "we", that's because I'm making them from the perspective of a viewer.. because I'm a viewer of a lot of channels too. So hopefully it doesn't sound hypocritical. special thanks to my fridge for the annoying white noise in the beginning and to my cat who made this 11 minute video take an hour to film and is responsible for the random noises throughout the vid. There's some cute pictures of him from when he was younger on this blog post in you're interested lol annasanalysis.com/blog/cat-care
@@rebeccagonsalves speak for yourself not others. i get many messages from people who say my videos have helped them. not everyone who follows me has followed me for a long time, not everyone who follows me watches all my videos, and not everyone who watches this video will be someone who follows me.
@@rebeccagonsalves i do absolutely none of the things i talked about in the video and i never have at any time ive had my channel. i've never lied about the one product i've promoted, tried to make people feel bad for me to get views or at all, pretended to care so much about each and every person who watches my channel, and asked people to comment pointless things, other than sarcastically on this video. none of the things i 'presented' in this video were 'making content that is more suited for what your viewers like'. im not sure how you got that from the video because i just filmed and edited this today and i cant remember a single thing even being slightly related to that. also, i do not make videos based on what other people tell me i should do. quite the opposite actually. i've had so many people to tell me to keep making the videos that i dont want to make anymore, and i havent kept making them. and im sure i could think of many types of videos to do that would get more views than what im doing right now, but im not making those videos either. i make what im interested in making, sometimes knowing that a certain subject will get more views than average, and other times knowing that a video will get less views than average and only make me like $100-200 tops, but i'll still spend a week or two making it because i am interested in the topic and want to share my opinion on it because i think it can help people in some way or another. all i care about is being able to pay my bills which are not much. other than that, im not trying to have some huge income from my videos. if i was, ive had almost 4 years where i couldve started a patreon, sold my own merch, wrote an ebook, and done more than 1 sponsored post.
Beccs thats like saying that every single person who has a job is manipulative. Just because making money is one of the reasons I do youtube, doesn’t mean I’m manipulating anyone. If I didn’t make money from RU-vid, I would still be making the same videos in the same way, just less frequently because I would have to get a different job which would take up more of my time. You’ve not listed a single way anything I’ve ever done has been manipulative, you’ve just asserted that since I make money from RU-vid and have a semi large following then I must be manipulating people. Also, the only decisions I’ve made regarding what to post based on doing polls on my community tab in the past year or so have just been asking people which videos I should make first.
Anna's Analysis I loved your article about cat care! It cracks me up how he’s been naughty so far and you kinda can’t stand him 😝 But he was such adorable an adorable kitten. The pictures you got of him were too much 🥰
Just Mom Living I agree with you but for me personally I tend to love people no matter if I’ve never met them. I also see all forms of love as the same thing, it’s how you share it that is different. Like I said, I agree with you! Just letting you know people like me exist ^___^
There are different types of love but yeah the amount they say it is weird. Plus it’s not like friend-friend love, let alone family-love. I guess it’s more just a way of showing appreciation, sometimes it’s even less than that. It’s more like they just love the love that *they* receive from their audience, but they don’t really love each fan/viewer for who they are. They wouldn’t care if they unfollowed the next day. I also hate the whole like “this is a family!” type thing. I’ve even heard influencers say that they’re uncomfortable with that then call their audience an “family” a month later LMAO
@@crimeslime5419 *"There are different types of love"* I have a huge gripe against that concept. It blurs reality. LOVE should only be used for the true unconditional love... we must use or find different words for the other stuff, that way LOVE is not a word with the same weight as "hello"
Don't forget the "support dont hate", "positivity only", "if you disagree, you're a negative hater" mindset. It's so freaking annoying and manipulates people to only give them compliments and nothing else.
it depends, most of the time there is no need to be negative. these kinds of videos are criticism for people's awareness and mental health which are mostly objective, but if people are leaving negative comments that are personally for an influencer it's just unnecessary
Chase Keeney you been stuck down the wrong tubes. Plenty of intelligent minds on this platform. They are just often not good at showing up in the “recommended “ There are millions of creators, we are actually spoiled for choice :)
I felt the same until I figured that basically compared to the people around him and people who had overnight success basically making millions that you have to understand based on the terms of relativity. Especially anyone who one of their closest friends is Jeffee Starr. If he were to live in a different geographic and were around different people and a different environment then there’s not absolutely a chance that the thought “I’m poor” (in a relative term, since he should be self aware due to not being born that way) should come into his head
@Keep Rocking! well i guess it just depends on person to person. I don't get as annoyed as I initially did because of my reason above but he does repeat it quite often
I think it's pretty odd that he's so "unproblematic" yet he surrounds himself with the most problematic people out there? (i.e. jeffree star, trisha paytas etc)
I dont think people understand how excellent your content is. Kudos for your hard work and putting out quality content. I loved seeing your face speaking
Not just RU-vid Influencers, the majority of people you meet in life are usually a little shady so just take people with a grain of salt and do your own research if something seems off.
“no ones gonna buy my pallet” remember that time Shane listed his underwear on amazon and it was almost auctioned off for literally thousands of dollars?
bruh i was obsessed with claire michelle in high school. she had a meet up in santa monica during early 2017 and i went to it. some girl was talking about how she was homeless and claire was like “‘maybe you should try making youtube videos” lol.
Lately I’m completely shifting my view about influencers and spirituality and all the things I believe in, i unfollowed so many people and ended a subscription which I thought it was helping me and instead i was just addicted to it. This video comes at the perfect time. Thank you. I love the way this channel has taken.
Me too! I'm truly taking in the good and leaving the bad. The influencers, especially the spiritual ones, a lot of them don't inherently mean bad. I'm just going to take what I've learnt and allow it to improve myself!
Same, I’ve moved to so many accounts because of the people I was subscribed to. I would subscribe to a lot of people, and I used to be subscribed to Shane and Gabbie. I stopped watching them because one I felt off when I would watch Gabbie and two I on longer liked their content anymore so I stopped watching them and moved to a different account since I knew RU-vid was going to keep recommending me their videos regardless if I had unsubscribed.
I've always thought these things... This is why I've never said "I love you guys" to my viewers. It's really a stupid thing to say and feels so bloody insincere when people say it in videos.
These same ppl who complained about "corporate america" are the same ones now manipulating their audiences for their own financial gain as soon as they had the opportunity. Humans are shit. Btw ur gorgeous:)
You are one of the only people on RU-vid who actually adds value to my life with their content. I think so much of what you say should be heard by (especially younger people) ..I wish I had heard the stuff earlier in life myself.
Maybe it's because I'm old, but the first thing I notice about many "influencers" is the fakeness. I've had to tell my son multiple times that it is simply not normal and in fact, fake for grown-ass men to shouting, hollering, exclaiming, laughing uncontrollably, and getting overly excited about video games ….which they play all day, every single day of the week - on RU-vid.
I actually watch Shane Dawson’s series, and I noticed everything you covered on the video. He clearly isn’t struggling with money if he bought that huge house. I mostly watch his content because I find it entertaining. I don’t buy his merchandise or any of the makeup he released with Jeffrey. I actually don’t purchase any merchandise from people I watch on RU-vid because majority of the time it’s unsustainable. For example, the makeup line he released with Jeffrey. “Jeffrey Cosmetics” claims it’s vegan but doesn’t provide information about where the ingredients are sourced. I agree that there’s clearly manipulation happening but I mostly see it with children. It seems like creators see that children can be manipulated into buying merchandise by making them feel bad for them.
Never give an influencer money. If you send anyone money through Paypal or Patreon, you've been played. You may as well be a fly in a spider's web. They don't need your money. They have ad revenue. If that's not enough for them, they can get a job.
agree, I also watch Shane just for entertainment, "the sketch show of Shane Dawson"))), I think he is a good actor as most of other influencers. But my dosage of such videos keeps decreasing)
@@automnejoy5308 The only channels I would ever support through patron are like movie review channels if they make though provoking content and smaller poc RU-vidrs who get demonized a lot but I would never support a huge RU-vid like shane or the ace family with donations or buying their merch
@@kennyb1588 I have mixed feelings about donating even to smaller channels. They could easily be lying or exaggerating about being demonetized. Maybe a few of their videos are demonetized, but not others... but they're implying it's their whole channel. How do you know? And even if they are fully demonetized, that doesn't mean they're not financially secure. It's all very shady.
Liked and subscribed for the Shane and Jeffree comment. This has driven me crazy since the series came out (not even going into the Jake Paul thing). All of the comments are praising them for being so honest and so close and open with the fans and people saying "I don't even wear makeup but I bought a 52$ pallet to support you". They don't need your support, neither of them are poor and have more money than the average buyer will ever see in their lives. Their whole docu-series is an add for their palette and it infuriates me that most of their fans don't see this. Obviously you have to promote your products in-order to sell them but to create this fake bond and to accuse Jake Paul of being a psychopath for pushing merch on his fans when Shane is doing the same thing in a "cuter" way is revolting. You may watch their content but lets be real: Jeffree will never hangout with you in real life and none of them are your friends. There is nothing wrong with supporting who you want or buying their product because you like it. The problem is these millionaires (yes Shane too) manipulating impressionable audiences into spending ridiculous amounts of money with limited edition bullshits and purses with pig faces on them. Anyway thank you to whoever is reading this, I'm glad there is a community who sees through all of this b.s.
Ugh exactly this! Shane is so full of shit. I honestly don't get how his fans don't realise it. His whole "I'm so poor" and "what if it doesn't sell??" was such an obvious bait and cash grab it makes me almost angry. I mean, cmon people, it was no docu series! It was a glorified ad.
@5,ooo LightYears Away it's not going to matter when their fans realise. They got what they wanted, the money, they probably laugh at duping stupid kids.
@@hbhtcr5707 yeah but that's what I mean like no one just chills in their bedroom anymore its always way over decorated to look more like a studio than an actual lived in bedroom lol It's not a big deal tho was just making the observation that not many people do that anymore.
There is so much to be said about the kangen water scam and I think you're the first person I've heard mention it!!!! A video on this subject is soooo needed.
You are a complete breath of fresh air. Thank you for your time, your intelligence, your insights. I don't often comment, but am just genuinely thankful that someone like you is creating this candid content we desperately need in the largely superficial, deceptive digital world we live in these days. Been watching so many of your videos these past few days. They're like a tonic I didn't realize I required. Now I consider myself to be 'waking up': a lot of more aware of how the web of deceit and illusions is affecting me, and has regrettably affected me under the surface now for many, many years. I always knew about this toxicity, but they way you articulate the issues at hand is striking and resonant. And I'm beginning to feel hope again. To feel well again. Grounding myself in my OWN reality, not an 'influenced' one. It's been wild to finally break away from social media for just a few days now and feel myself slipping back to an old baseline of happiness and self-contentment that I forgot was possible. Thank you, Anna... your voice is helping me find mine again.
My kids _love_ minecraft videos! But since they have very limited screen time they have to decide wheter (is this right?) they can watch somebody play minecraft or play it themselves.
I have yet to come across a RU-vidr who can compare to you ❤️ I admire your authenticity and your ability to always keep it real. You are so wise beyond your years it’s crazy. It’s so refreshing to see someone with an audience do something of value like you are. Keep up the amazing work. Looking forward for more Anna’s Analysis 💓🌟🙌🏻
Another fantastic video Anna. Your perspective is necessary in today's world of RU-vid content creators. You're wise beyond your years and your grounded POV will reach many people. Also, I enjoyed this video especially because we got to see you while you spoke to us. Thank you.
I don't watch a lot of RU-vid or do much in the way of social media, but I stumbled across your channel and I want to say: I am very impressed by your grounded thinking and well-reasoned treatment of the topics in the few videos of yours that I now have watched. So much so that despite being critical in general of social media, I have subscribed to your channel. I look forward to future enjoyment of the edification and uplifting content I have come to expect of your productions. Thank you for improving the quality of RU-vid and social media in general, in a day in which these things have become detrimental and even destructive to society and true quality of life.
I think the “we made this!” could be also that many people really think about their audience a lot when they make something and they really feel that the people are there. If they weren’t supporting, the person wouldn’t have such motivation and inspiration to create. It’s as if the support of the audience gives the person courage to pursue his/her own intuition to create and they make him/her feel loved. “I love my supporters” is not about love for individual supporters, but what the supporters as a group brings to ones life... (this is for the algorithm too!)
I agree with almost everything in this video, the thing I don't agree with at least to an extend is being grateful for your audience. Yeah it seems shallow when big youtubers talk for 5 min about nothing more than I love ALL of you, as if they know you, but I also think that an audience and the related influence they have is something someone can be grateful for. Getting a platform because you started a weird idea of filming yourself in your bedroom talking about whatever and suddenly getting opportunities they would never have before, that is thanks to the follower and it's not just the youtubers skill/content that influences this, as we all probably know a well deserving small youtubers without this wave of follower. So I think it can be genuine to thank your audience for watching you not just the 30 other people they're subscribed to. Sorry for rambling ..... ^^
I agree. Being grateful to your subscribers is a normal thing to do. Even if the creator did all the stuff him/herself, the viewers are one of the elements of success. The audience drives your growth, your channel so I have no problem when creators are feeling so grateful with their audience. I don’t want to be too judgmental on that.
I totally agree here gratitude should be put out there but the part that’s the issue is the word “love”, they don’t know us. I can’t stand it when they say “I love you all”, instead of saying “I appreciate you” or “I value every one of you”. Love is a strong word that you use for ones closest too you. I don’t tell anyone I love them unless I have a close bond with them, maybe not everyone but it’s a very intimate statement. They don’t know us to love us and it destroys healthy boundaries. The influencers that don’t use the words “I love you guys” are setting healthy boundaries but can still express their gratitude without the emotional ties 😄
Thank you for that reminder. What you have said applies to life in general. I can apply it to many aspects in life to avoid manipulation, exaggeration to better focus on what is real. I feel your words help a person like me to watch out for my blind spots.
I am so glad you're back to making this quality content. I missed it! Thank you for pointing out Claire Michelle's manipulation. It is scary how easily people trust and defend her.
Thanks for talking about this topic. I found your channel through the ‘van life’ video. I appreciate your style of bringing light to these issues. Here particularly you talked about ‘para-social’ relationships. I haven’t heard that term before and it’s definitely given me something to think about today. I’m totally on board with your analysis of how each post or video takes new validity when hidden behind influence to mask the inherent commercialism/consumerism. I’m also thinking about the historical ramifications of the para-social effect on society and culture when we often fall victim to persona, not person. This can be damaging when the lines between pop-culture and politics are as married as they are. Thanks for teaching me a new term today!
All of your videos are like a breath of fresh air! This is the kind of content that should go viral, especially to reach teenagers and young people, who are unfortunately the easiest to manipulate. Keep 'em coming :)
If you made it to the end of this video, comment 'Dance Puppet' below. I've always been very resistant to the !manipulation of advertising and influencers are basically next level advertisers.
So cool you watch D'Angelo..... he's a genius and light years wise! I'm always stunned by how young you both are and how intelligent and emotionally mature you are. Well done
I enjoy watching Shane Dawson’s content, but I have to agree with you that he plays the “poor” person card to get people to relate to him. Smh it’s disappointing when people don’t see how good they have it.
You are very well-spoken and I love your logical and open-minded way of thinking. I have learned so much from your videos! Your online presence is useful and so effective.
Hi Anna - l clicked on your video accidentally few moths ago ( the one “ how social media is ruining your life”) and this was spot on. Then l saw few videos when you travel in your van - you are very brave young women, well done. Then l did not see much, then l was thinking lately - how the brave girl is doing and l found this video - Anna l am speechless ! You are so smart and beautiful. Your comments are spot on , I am very impressed specially because you are so young ( l am probably twice your age 🤦♀️😉) we need more young people like you and this is my wish for 2020 - that more people will wake up ! Well done for your great work, best wishes with love 👍😊❤️
I can't believe I got here from your VAN video ! WOW ! This message Truly needed to be said. You have spoken so much honesty , what an absolute intelligent and POSITIVE grow up :) you are amazing , and I hope this comment reaches you. single-handedly you awoke a Large amount of minds , to see past the veil of deception . much love !!
I stumbled upon your channel by happenstance and I'm honestly glad I did. You are truly a breath of fresh air! I watch a lot of van lifers and RV dweller videos.. and that could be why your video "The Reality of Van Life on Social Media" popped up on my feed. But from there, I found THIS video and I just wanted to say it's nice to hear from a RU-vidr that doesn't bullshit people. You speak the truth and you don't sugar coat it at all. For that reason? I am subbing to your channel. I look forward to watching more of your content from here on out.
Anna, I just love how natural, normal, kind, brave and vulnerable you are, or at least this is what you seem to me! I am just watching you and sending you so much good vibes, respect and appreciation!
i thought i was going crazy and i couldnt explain how i felt when watching so many videos, i knew something was off and definately smelled the b.s. I am so happy that you clarified this. I feel like im getting robbed of something every video i watch. the world is ONE big advertisememnt. How does one find true friendship in the world? are there only really just a few good people out there? $$$$$
I’ve been noticing this about Claire Michelle! She seems to jump from thing to thing. First the membership site, then her app basically promoting cbd oil then joining breakaway movement and now leaving breakaway movement.
Andrea Josefine yes she said so in a recent instagram story. She said she will leave it but that she will still consume the water and that she still believes in it.
aberdeen hey, I know a girl in my small town apart of breakaway movement. What has breakaway got to do with kangen? what’s the connection. I thought it was just individuals getting coaching on their passion. Appreciated
Anna as a fellow analyst, philosopher, and religious studies nerd I am super thrilled to have found your channel today. (And yes I would argue that many influencers have a type of cult-like following that stimulates my religious-studies inner nerd).
If anyone is blindly following the words or actions of anyone, that’s where the issue lies. We all have endless access to information-if we aren’t researching a, b, or c before just believing someone’s opinion or personal experience then we are the only ones to blame because this social world isn’t going anywhere. However, I also think there are plenty of genuine people out there promoting products or lifestyles that they actual do believe in. So, bottom line, is just do the actual research and ask questions, ask for resources, and be smart. Not everyone is out to get you, but the ones that are aren’t forcing you to do anything. Remember, you’re choosing to engage.
I just discovered your channel today. Dude, ur awesome 😎 it’s so nice to see someone very honest, straightforward, well spoken and positive. Plus you have a big variety of videos so anyone can find something that interests them. Good job 👏🏻
Actually this lack of self confidence might me genuine. When someone depends on outside validation as the only source of self-worth, no wonder one has no confidence inside.
Sooooooo true ! It’s the third video I watch from your page, and I am totally agree w/ all the things you said. You’re a clever girl and it is very brave to share those type of opinion about « taboo » subject like those. I hope your Chanel will continue to have super content like that. Keep going because you handle the all thing very well ! Thank you for that
Your videos are wonderful and I appreciate them as I start to explore this online world (for me as a yoga teacher specifically). I want to be authentic and to share genuinely and try to not get wrapped up in the chaos of the "influencer world." I've been watching many of your videos over the past few weeks and loving how thought-provoking they've been.
I wanted to add there's definitely a bit of psychology going on when it comes to social media influencer manipulation. I'm convinced the successful ones have either some knowledge in social psychology or have a person on their staff that is knowledgeable in that field or advertising in general. I believe everyone gets influenced and it's not being weak-minded but if you are emotionally vulnerable, lonely, or suffer from depression or anxiety, you'll have a higher likelihood of believing a RU-vidr saying those "I care about you, you all make a huge difference blah blah blah" everyday. I've fallen into that trap way too many times than I care to admit to but I'm finally reminding myself and making myself more aware of being very vigilant with people I subscribe to. If I notice something strange, I now just call them out on it and say I don't believe you and I don't think anyone else should believe this statement either. Anyway, thank you and I hope to find more youtube channels that address the manipulative side of social media influencers.
I’m so glad that you’re talking about things that I’ve always felt suspicion on and raise an eyebrow when I that something was off. I feel like a lot of influencers may have good intentions at first and then become very narcissistic, parasitic a manipulative.
I mean i got your point but for the second way they manipulate us. To be honest, I feel like some youtube channel like the one of Leeor Alexandra created a community, so it makes sens in a way that they say "we created that together". People helping each other in the comments, in the facebook group, its like a community. So yes some people use it in a way to manipulate you but its not always the case. Also, I don’t think its that much of a big deal to say to someone to comment a random thing for them to increase their views or something like that. But thank you for putting out those points and making videos like that. It opens my mind about different perceptions of spirituality and to not stay close minded about one thing. At the end, we are all trying to find the truth.
I have a script given to me on how to "influence" people. It is about finding their pain point and then making yourself relatable. The person blocked me when I confronted him about calling people losers in his private facebook group.
What you have stated is that people need to use critical thinking when consuming content! This is so important in every aspect of your life. Combine this with emotional awareness & we can create a calling for a very enlightened generation. That you for expressing your viewpoint.
Love how you share your points of view in such a calm and respectful way. You have a new sub for sure! As a singer- songwriter and artist I feel like a lot of the things you covered here apply to the music industry too and on how artists are almost expected to take on a similar role as some of the influencers you mention do. The music alone without the booming social accounts usually doesn’t get you very far anymore. It’s often tricky to not fall for the “quick result methods” and “get there fast strategies” regarding a creative product, in my case music. But it is something I strive to stay away from since it interferes with an intrensic motivation that to me, is meant to come from an internal place of gradual development and self-nourishment, not an external need or even deficit for validation. It would be super interesting to see your analysis on “youtube stars turned recording artist” and on the longevity of this part of their career. As a full-time musician and independent artist it’s sometimes a bit overwhelming to see how people in the youtube realm become “artists” or overnight or “do music now” cause they always “loved music”. This behavior enhances the music recycle culture that often does not focus on the depth of one’s being, but revolves solely around making stuff easy and selling it quickly. Everyone can basically become an artists these days and that’s great and all, but I am curious to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks for making awesome content!
They don't because I don't use TikTok, or Instagram...Twatter...Facebook and Myspace used to be the thing ...now it's just a work account. The older I get, the less appealing social media is.
I love how she called Shane and Jeffrey out well before the big summer controversies of 2020 when millions unsubbed from them. This also reminded me to double check and make sure I'm unsubscribed from the both of them, which I am. Crazy how I once was fooled by them into thinking they were genuine, caring individuals, who cared about any of us. I was totally manipulated and that scares me.
Thank you ! That is very interesting ! I always thought that saying « I love you, I missed you » is just insincere bulshit ( even of some think they are being honest they just pick up on what other youtubers do). As for « comment below » I don’t know why I didn’t think about the algorithm because I actually do get through manipulative means or intentions. Thank you for the video ! I hope i will see more in depth video about it. Alyse Parker is the worst for me ( raw alignment) and I wonder if she is aware of her very problematic behavior
If i had to choose, Papercrete and earthcrete would be at the top of my list. The types you mention are interesting quality products. Though, as a natural builder and someone that looks to live with a lighter footprint. Concrete of any kind is way down on my list of structural building materials. A lime based material is a huge step up from cement based. To truely warm my heart and hearth i purse things like cob, cordwood, strawbale, lightstraw-clay, and rammed earth among others.
Thanks again! Great video. You promote awareness. I really like that and advocate it myself. Awareness will help people make the right chooses and decision themselves. You do put a lot of work in making them and a lot of research. And that is the whole point. Influencers are influenced themselves and mostly by money. I belief in your sincerity. It is a precious thing nowadays. Please continue making these videos.
