4 Ways To Cap Square Tubing - 3 Weld Caps and NO Welding Required on One Cap.
These are the four ways I cap square tube, the timber end cap plug I have used in my "Rolling Lumber Rack" video. There were 12 open square tube ends that needed a cap and this was the quickest and easiest way for me to do it, once painted you would not know it was not a metal cap. I would not use timber caps in anything structural, a metal end cap is much stronger for that purpose.
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.

Nice ways to weld caps, I'm new to welding and I only own a stick welder, I'm far away from MIG/TIG welder, every time I do a cap, I either end up blowing holes in tube or if I go cold or use less amps, I ended up getting slag between welds, can you please do video on doing caps on stick welder as DIY guys like me can't get hands on MIG welders.

Great video! Useful pointers for sealing a boat trailer I’m making. Some pour oil in before sealing I believe. Do you think that wood option would keep the water out if submerged?
@GavinClarkdiy
@GavinClarkdiy 3 года назад
In the long term the answer is no, but it will keep it out as long as the paint you paint over it seals it in. Boat trailers get a tough life, put underwater then dragged out and left all day in the sun, If you weld a plate over the opening it would be much better. Hope that helps a bit

@BenMitro
@BenMitro 3 года назад
@@GavinClarkdiy Friction welding is a pretty amazing thing to watch...steel spinning on steel, glowing redhot, melting then welded! I've always wondered if one could do this with a mag drill and suitable insulated between the jaws and the fastener (I have one - they are frigging strong and perhaps the only thing I have that could maybe do this...but its expensive, so I don't want to risk it). What about aluminium, wonder if that can be friction welded? Better look up friction welding on yt :)
@GavinClarkdiy
@GavinClarkdiy 3 года назад
@@BenMitro I have watched friction welding on youtube, I agree an amazing process, and some massive shafts getting welded. I can't imaging that we could be doing it at home even on a small scale, need lost of pressure pushing the bits together too as well as spinning them. A very interesting thought. Thanks.
