I've spent way too much money on comic books since getting back into them 5 years ago, so this video is definitely helpful in helping me move toward a self-sustaining approach to the hobby.
Pretty proud of myself. I preordered a first appearance guaranteed 9.8 for really cheap, recently flipped it for funds for a local con. I still own few raw copies of that first appearance. But with the money I made off the slab, I bought another 3-4 first appearances of books that are trending up! I'm learning from watching you and few other RU-vid channels!
I’m reluctant to submit to CGC due to the long turnaround times- a book could no longer be hot by the time I get it back. I like the idea of buying books that have already been graded and flipping them.
That's my issue aswell, I've not done a submission yet but im getting together 25 I think will do well that I no longer want. Oh, and if they come back low, I dont want to loose money lol
I agree, I only send in golden age books to CGC these days. Older detective comics, Pre code horror never drops in value. But would never send in modern spec books, turnaround time is way too long and value drops.
I do Raw to Raw or Raw to Graded for my sales. My problem is letting go of the books! Always feel if I wait a little longer, it might go for more, or its a book I like and wanna hold onto, but the ROI is just too high not to take advantage of it.
i routinely submit to cgc but i need a presser ccs is killing me... good video.... just got my first appearances of thrawn back... cant wait to see him live action fingers crossed
I like finding raw books and selling raw books or sending them in to get graded. I never put a grade on my raw ebay sales because no matter what I say someone is going to disagree with my grade so I just say see pictures and that is what you will receive. So post lots of pictures, this has cut down on my returns.
Hey fellow Bryan - just wanted to add one way I've been flipping: Buying rough Raw, doing CPR and selling raw. E.g. Getting some TLC to some of the diamonds in the rough and flipping them without having to sub them. It's what helped me kickstart funding the hobby again.
@@Teardehawkee I'm not saying there is. I'm just saying that some people who really like the character are probably gonna be spending a some money when she comes on Disney+.
This is useful stuff. Appreciate the knowledge. I love comic books, but I've only recently started to really learn more about how to invest in them (I've mostly only been doing sports cards in relation to thinking about making a profit, since I have more knowledge in that space).
Great video and information. How do you see the Bad Idea Eniac comics going for ROI. I think I bought a 9.8 #1 too high, and now their out of business....urgh. Shades of Valiant comics.
I don’t think they are really out of business…I mean what company goes out of business for being too successful? That doesn’t make any sense. I have a whole bunch of eniacs, I think it would make a great movie!
The first thing I'm doing is separating comics I buy for personal and those for flip/spec and you're exactly right: you have to separate your business mind from your fan mind or you'll go for what you want and not sell anything.
I bought Avengers 8 first Kang 2 years ago... Now reselling it at a major gain. Then I bought some like First Knull which I took a loss on. I love the hobby though 💪
Hey Bry! I know it’s not an exact science, but in your opinion when is the best time to sell these movie and tv spec books? Are we talkin first trailer, second trailer, debut, or even a few days/weeks after release? Thanks for all the great vids. You are giving me the freedom to pursue my passion outside of my day job!!
Hey Kyler! It kind of depends on the book, but usually it’s when the hype is the highest and that’s usually around the first official trailer…but lately I’ve been seeing prices not peak until a few days after release like you said…
Great video. I've been trying these methods myself also cleaning and pressing my own books. I've also been trying to follow the Disney+ shows and buying keys before the show comes out. But you said to sell when the book is at it's peak. How do you know when it's peaked exactly?
Hey Bry I appreciate the advice and commentary on what to look for. I’m new to game are there any other comic book appraising companies besides CGC that has a quicker turnaround time for grading comic books? Also do these companies have the same clout as CGC whenI sell the graded product on line?
I’ve started doing what you just posted I am may be selling some stuff which I just recently gone through most of my comic Bins ! However finding what to get graded and if it’s worth it has been a very challenging hurdle for me. Hopefully you will address which series is worth grading in a future video
