I put one on my Gen 3 1290 SDR. Couldn’t get it to bleed properly the conventional way and was recommended to reverse bleed from the slave up. Worked a treat.

Yeah that reverse bleed would work better! The bottle trigger worked well but should have done reverse bleed!

will do the same some day . Had the slave cylinder replaced under warranty as it was letting air in . but it was only changed like for like not the upgrade . I think it has to be reversed bleed .because unlike bleeding brakes there's no pressure to pump the leaver on to

Reverse bleed would definitely have been easier - the pump sprayer worked a treat though!

@@SamVBikes the pump spray was Doing the reverse bleed job . I think the upgrade is about a £100 . You made it look easy I’ve got all the kit for revers bleed my hydraulic mount bike . Just need a spray pump All along . Lol Thanks 👍

Haha! Yeah all of those kits are very good but sometimes there's a hack which costs basically nothing which you can steal from the wife's cleaning cupboard ha

The KTM centre is also my local dealer. Good team in there. I'm not riding my SDR as much as I would like as my job is a 15 minute cycle away and barely worth suiting up for that. 😬

Thank you! Not sure as standard but I was recommended to use the brake/clutch fluid as it's what's used in the dealer. Seemed to be the suggestion on most forums too

Dot5.1 or Dot4 only for brake and clutch both.

Rely DOT4? 1290 - only mineral oil in clutch as Motorex 201230

That was a nice and simple change and that orange clutch slave cylinder looks so cool and must add 10mph too! 😂 I have been gifted some oberon mini indicators so they will end up on something i own at some point. I also have contacts for hrdro graphics so am thinking about select parts of my hornet getting a gloss carbon fibre treat!

use dot 5.1 in higher altitudes/warmer climates. Dot 4 boils on some bikes and you have to stop let it cool, maybe not an issue for ktm external master cylinder :)

DOT 5.1 is silicon based, correct? It is not compatible with DOT 4 AT ALL!! You'd better do some research on that. And DOT 5 fluids do not absorb water so any water in the system will settle to the bottom of any parts.

@@gregorytubbs3444 You like to write I see. Dot 5 and dot 5.1 are not the same. DOT 4 and 5.1 are both glycol-based brake fluids they are compatible with each other. KTM writes compatibility on their reservuars and my 2021 1290 says dot4 or dot 5.1 :)

Impressive how many miles you have put on this bike👍 I am taking mine to the shop tomorrow morning to get my leaking fork fixed ( 7.200 km ). Did you have any problems with that? The parcel from BHPUK should arrive Tuesday🙂Looking forward to that project.

@@SamVBikes The guys at BHPUK were really helpful trying to make it work. Apparently, the manufacturer of the unit thinks it´s the bike. They advised to disconnect "all other units including the dashboard" and then try again. But i am no expert in this and i won´t risk messing anything up. Too bad. I was looking forward to less vibrations....but there R 1300 ways to achieve that😁

Reliability and efficiency is the bigger selling points, plus it's much cheaper than stock replacement. The clutch feel seems better and definitely smoother, but I can't guarantee that's not just my experience as mines been on it's way out for a few months

The paint on these reservoirs Peels really quickly. Not easy to restore either.

Yeah definitely do! I've repainted in the past with metal paint but I think I'll have to do another with a few coats
